“Madam, won’t you go to today’s party? It’s an honourable day for the Anderson family.”

The girl with slightly reddish-brown hair, fair complexion and a slender figure, who was writing something on the paper in front of her, looked at her maid. She was standing before her holding the tea tray. The girl slightly smiled at her and then again concentrated on what she was doing, “ You remember grandma’s words right, Nina?”

“Which one? She gives you a lot of hearing. Which one are you talking about?”

“NINA!!!!!” The girl glared at her maid seeing her sarcastic behaviour.

The glare had a perfect effect on her since Nina remembered the answer to what she was asked, “……….You…you mean the last one?!”

“….Yeah. The last one. I can’t show my face to her until I get married to a man within three months.”

“But madam Eleanor, where are you going to get a man to get married? Not to mention who would also be a gentleman!” Nina sulked while scratching the tea tray and diverting her gaze away from Eleanor’s.

Eleanor peeked at Nina’s sulking face and sighed deeply, “I am trying, Nina! I sent marriage proposals to every man in my reach!”

“But they all rejected you, no?”

“………You know what? Today you are rubbing salt on my wounds more often!! Is that intentional?”

“NO! NO, NO, NO!! Madam Eleanor, I don’t dare to do so!!”

Eleanor dropped the pen on the table and laid back on the soft chair. With pitiful eyes, Nina looked at her mistress.

“AHHHHHH!!!! Please don’t tell me I’m the first woman on earth who sent marriage proposals to men!!” Eleanor suddenly hit the table hard. “UGHH…I want to die!”

Nina was surprised to see Eleanor worrying about that rather than thinking of a way how to get married within the given time by her grandmother.

Eleanor’s grandmother’s name was Miranda Anderson, the chairperson of Aloha Enterprise. It was the most famous multinational company that hailed from Roveign city. About 60 years ago Allec Anderson started a small company and it soon expanded into a consortium by his wife, Miranda Anderson’s hard work and full dedication towards her husband and the company. Miranda was famous for her beauty, skills and also faithfulness towards Aloha. Through her super methods of grabbing the attention of rich investors, she spanned  Aloha Enterprise globally even after her husband’s premature death.

Besides taking care of her business and all, she raised four of her children, who had eight children in total. Altogether, the Anderson family built an empire in Roveign city. They were nothing but other people's eyesores as they envied their growth and success. So people always looked for a loophole in their family, a chance to disgrace them! However, the strength between the family members didn’t let them fall apart.

The Anderson family used to walk with pride until one day the youngest and most cherished child of Miranda Anderson, whose name was Aiden Anderson had an affair with a woman with no background. The media engulfed the story and made it the juiciest and most entertaining one for broadcasting. They had become the hot topic of Roveign city. But Miranda was a witted woman. Using her wit and power, she shut the mouth of the media as she made her son Aiden marry the woman who caused the uproar. Her name was Emilia Lane.

Emilia was a rising singer of that time who had immense beauty. But she was circulated by many rumours that caused her to lure the youngest child of Miranda Anderson. She was sly as a fox! She knew how to put an end to the rumours around her and she completed her mission since the rumours gradually died after she got married to Aiden. Besides the rumours, money was also a factor for such a middle-class woman like Emilia. Other than that, she never held any love for Aiden. It was always a one-sided love.

Aiden’s foolish behaviour resulted in getting Miranda’s hatred. Not only was he disgusted by her, but also by his siblings and other relatives who started disregarding his presence in the house. Aiden was there, but also he wasn’t. The mistake he had made by getting engaged with Emilia was eating him by time. But it never affected Emilia who was forcing Aiden to have a child with him to ensure the throne of the Anderson family. But her dream also got shattered as soon they had a baby girl rather than a boy.

Aiden named her Eleanor. She was as pretty as her mother but also had eyes like her grandmother Miranda. Although Eleanor was the first child of Aiden, her grandmother didn’t go to see her. Thus Eleanor’s grandmother’s hatred cost her torment and disgraces in her family. She was like a disgusted animal that was silently living in a corner of the house. She was misbehaved and verbally abused by her uncles, aunts and her cousins as if whatever she did was always wrong. Aiden didn’t have any power to help Eleanor, so she endured all their torments.

However, Eleanor kept working hard! She tried her best in proving herself to her grandmother Miranda. Although she got tormented a lot by her relatives and faced many difficulties, she never lost hope. Her hard work paid off one day as she was appointed as the chairman of one of the branches of Aloha Enterprise by Miranda.

Since it wasn’t the main branch, Eleanor left Roveign city and it was quite far too. So she was away from her daily abuses for a while. But it hadn’t been two years before she got appointed in the main branch under the supervision of Laura, her aunt. Laura wasn’t that strict on her, but she didn’t even let her loose either! She made Eleanor work as hard as possible. But adamant Eleanor took an oath of ensuring her position in the Anderson family and to Miranda. And that's why she never gave up. She kept working harder than before. As a result, she was recognised by Laura in no time.

Everything was going as usual for Eleanor until she turned twenty. She was like a ripened fruit in front of the Anderson family. There was also another young girl named Lucy, Eleanor’s cousin and the youngest grandchild of Miranda who was about to reach the marriageable age soon after Eleanor. So Eleanor was being pushed by her relatives to get a man in her life so that they could think of Lucy’s marriage since it was a tradition of the house that the elder ones get married before the younger ones.

But everyone in the society knew Eleanor’s position in the Anderson family. So not a single eligible bachelor in their connection approached her. Those who came to ask her hand were some rich old men or men who had many wives!! Accepting their proposal wasn’t possible for Eleanor, nor could she tolerate the misbehaviour of her family members anymore. Even Eleanor’s mother Emilia tried to introduce her to some men since she was getting an ear from the Andersons. But they were on the same level as Emilia. Nothing more, nothing less.

Soon enough, Lucy started nagging about Eleanor to her grandmother. Miranda was getting ashamed of Eleanor because she was turning into the main topic of the Anderson family and she had to hear only about her wherever she went. It was becoming a pain for not only Eleanor but for Miranda also. So she ordered her to get married within three months before her next birthday banquet! The rest was the story….

Eleanor kept sighing while resting her head on the table, “ I hate my life…”

“Madam, please don’t sigh that much. You will die soon. You are cutting your age, madam!”

“Yeah right. If I don’t have a normal death, the murderer would be my grandmother!! You should be an astrologer, Nina.”

“I wished to be one though!”

“……..You are hopeless!!”

“Where are you taking me? Le..let me go!!” Aiden was moving like a cockroach in the capture. His eyes were blindfolded and his hands were tied to the back. "Shut his goddamn mouth!!!" Howard shouted which ended up echoing in the room! Suddenly it was pin-drop silence. Nobody spoke or moved. "Who..who are you?!" Fear could be sensed in Aiden's voice as if he could guess a little bit that he was standing before his death. But he shouted again while crying, " I asked...who are you? Do you know who I am? Let me…" Before Aiden could even finish his whole line, Leo put a sock in his mouth. Aiden kept struggling as he couldn't breathe! He gulped his words and tears fell down his eyes. "Take him to our old place." Howard signed the back door to Tany and Leo to take Aiden away from his sight. By lugging Aiden, Leo and Tany took him outside the room where loud sounds were coming from. There was a casino beneath the room and it was where Aiden used to gamble! The sound hit Aiden's eardrum

"It means he didn't go to the party.", Eleanor murmured while waiting for the Senior Officer on hold. She tightly held the wheel. Her eyes were burning in rage when she thought how irr

Eleanor took a detour from the place where the van was last seen. However, there wasn’t any secret passage or any other linked road. She took another three rounds to confirm, but there wasn’t any clue where the van might have gone. Eleanor stopped the car far from the tunnel. It was almost getting dark. The sky was filled with bright stars and birds were returning to their nests. The view made Eleanor more depressed thinking about the uncertainty that she could find her father. Eleanor finally realised that Roveign city was far bigger than she had imagined. She didn’t know a thing about that place even though she had been living there for twenty-two years. It was a jungle and if you weren’t strong, you wouldn’t survive there. The anxiety and fear Eleanor was feeling, was sign of facing a beast. Or more probably facing a certain someone. Eleanor sighed while looking at the night sky. It was cold. She rubbed her arms to keep herself warm. Yet she couldn’t tolerate the cold wind that w

That was the first time when Howard felt uneasiness around men. He was feeling suffocated to breathe as he noticed four eyes were staring holes in his body. “Are they gays?!”, was the only question circling his head. He couldn’t meet their eyes and kept looking at the casino downstairs. Feeling the pressure and not being sure if his boss was going to start the topic first, Paul broke the silence in the room, “Haha, the meeting was unexpected. Don’t you agree, Sir?” Mr Dixon kept looking at Howard without replying to Paul and that confirmed Howard’s doubt, declaring Mr Dixon as a homosexual. Howard thought of making himself clear before a misunderstanding had started. He cleared his throat, “I’m straight!” However, hearing Howard clearing his throat, Mr Dixon also at the same time said, “I’m sorry.” But then again, Howard’s weird line forced him to ask again, “I’m sorry?!” “Ya’ve been staring holes in me!”, Howard protested. Realising their mistake, Paul and Mr Dixon started stam

The eyes that were glowing at night could swallow the watchman down. However, he also had dignity as the Andersons’ watchman. It wasn't an easy task to guard such a huge mansion consisting of only a few people after all.“You need a prior appointment to meet any of the Andersons and also the curfew here starts at 8 PM sharp,” he said to the manSuddenly a car started honking behind them. The headlights suddenly got turned on, blinding both of their visions. “Let us in, Marc.” Shouted the driver inside before he closed the window by his side. He has recently opened a construction company here.”“That business won't flourish with Opals around, then why?”Eleanor glimpsed at the file before her. A man's picture, who was in his thirties, was smiling at her. A naive look on his face as if he's someone novice in the business field. Shutting the file in disappointment, Eleanor said, “Look out for him.”“But he seems harmless, ma'am.”“Don't judge a book by its cover. He just looks so, but not a fool.”The informer stood there dumbfounded. However, he didn't dare to ask further. As if he knew, it was beyond his understanding.“I’ll have an eye on him and keep you updated.”“Hmm…Oh! "My lock screen is bland…" Eleanor examined the screen thoroughly as if she just got a new phone. Surprisingly it was as old as her career. She was neglecting her important partner. "I guess this! This one will be good." Eleanor looked happy as she changed her lock screen. However, the pain in her chest was choking her, making her unable to breathe. She grabbed the water bottle from the passenger seat and chugged it down fully in a go. Taking a deep breath she said to herself, "Calm down! You already knew this!"Yeah.Eleanor had an idea of what was happening. There was no point fighting the truth. However, she still had to find out some answers. Her focus was lost with the phone ringing. It was Lione. She picked it up instantly. "Hello? Reached home safely?""Lea…we're here in your office now."Eleanor went silent. But that was momentary. Eleanor had been looking at the mirror for an hour with deep anticipation. She could hear her stomach rumbling whenever Howard's face popped up before her blank eyes. While acting his part about what he would say when he saw her, Eleanor could hear her heart beating louder than drums. She kept patting her chest in case she was capable of calming it down. "Calm down! Calm down! Woah. Everything's going to be fine." Eleanor said to her troubled heart but it only fueled her fear. She sat down on the chair, clenching her dress hard as she looked at the mirror again to find Nina at the back. A soft smile appeared on her face before saying, "I'm scared." "Why? Are you going to war?!" Nina asked in return which almost killed Eleanor since she had found it funny. She burst into laughter, unable to hold back anymore. It lasted for a while until she started clearing her tears and said, "It's not funny at all!" "But you’re laughing!" "Yeah, you’re right! WHOA! I feel something heavy on my ch

"Jennifer! Do a background check on Howard Brown and report me quickly," ordered Miranda. She just woke up from a good night's sleep and couldn’t leave her bed yet. Especially when the weather was nice, she didn’t have any plan to get out before eight o'clock in the morning. However, her usual routine said otherwise. Maybe it was because she was feeling sick since the day Eleanor brought Howard into their house. At first, Miranda didn’t harbour any doubts about Howard. Unfortunately, his response the other day at the dining hall was rather surprising for a mere clerk. Not that the common folks didn’t discuss such topics on business and current affairs! Despite having any relation with the revolutionary world of commerce, common people liked to talk about random topics now and then. So it wouldn’t have been surprising for Howard to know about the business world. Moreover, he was an acquaintance of Eleanor. Thus, it wasn’t surprising at all! But he had a rather clearer idea than any no

The weather was cloudy that day, so the room was gloomy. However, that wasn’t the only case why the situation was so dampening. Wearing an angry mask, Howard was sitting on the sofa. He was looking aimlessly at the flower vase that was kept on the table before him. As if he was planning to throw it to the wall. What would Eleanor do if he did that was what was going inside her head as she stood by the door and watched over him quietly. Howard didn’t bother to notice when she slowly walked into the room and went by the window. The curtains were half opened. So, she pulled the curtains away, letting the least bit of sunlight enter the room and enlighten Howard's misjudgement. "What do you want?" Howard asked in a harsh tone. But Eleanor was happy that her effort paid off. Thus she brushed aside his grumpy tone and joyfully replied, "Why, of course, I want to cheer up my angry husband." "Is that so? Then you must know the reason for my anger!" His tone became harsher. Eleanor almost
