“I couldn’t believe rumors like that are spreading within the employees,” Margot said, shaking her head in disbelief. She headed straight to her father’s office after meeting with Vivian.

“Rumors tend to be exaggerated. So, did you decide to quit? And here I thought you’d take my position no matter what,” Ryan smirked, observing his daughter’s reaction.

Margot shrugged. “It’s not that hard. I’ll just wait until you peacefully give up that seat of yours, then we won’t waste any time, or I can just kick out the current CEO and maybe start from there before becoming the chairman,” she nonchalantly replied. “What do you think is the best option?”

Ryan sighed. “It’s too early for my retirement. So, why don’t you take the second option? It will benefit both you and the company,” he grinned, relying on his daughter’s ability.

“Oh! Why do I feel like you’re just using me to get rid of the people you allowed in the company in the first place?” Margot rubbed her temple. “Well, you’re in luck. I

What do you know?” Harry lashed out, glaring at him. “Do you even have an idea that she’s married? What an ignorant fool,” he commented.Margot sighed in exasperation. “Stop making a scene, Harry. You’re only embarrassing yourself,” she muttered before turning to Leo. “My apologies for this disturbance. “Mrs. Walton…”Margot Walton lifted her gaze to face the doctor with anticipation in her hazel eyes. She held her breath and waited for the next thing he’d say.“I’m sorry. You have cancer. I’m afraid you only have six months left to live.”The doctor’s voice rang through Margot’s head like an annoying bell that wouldn’t stop. Her breath hitched for a second before her heartbeat became erratic.Margot’s body turned cold and her vision became blurry as she had a quick recollection of her past flashing through her mind. The warm droplets of tears fell on her hands clenched on her lap. It was the last thing she expected after returning to the hospital for her lab test results.“Hold on. Are you saying I’m not pregnant and I only have a few months to live? Are you sure?” The shock was written all over her face. She didn’t expect to die so soon. All along, she thought she was pregnant and the reason why she willingly did the test was to make sure it wasn’t just a false alarm like what happe

Margot clenched her fist while facing her husband and Linda. She felt her head spinning as her blood pressure rose.“Honey, are you alright?” Harry rushed to her side to help her, only for Margot to brush him away.“Don’t touch me,” she mumbled while glowering at him. Margot still couldn’t believe Harry was cheating on her and, of all people, it was with Linda, her stepmother.‘Does he always prefer older women?’ Margot couldn’t help but wonder.“You don’t look good, sweetheart. Are you sure you’re feeling okay? I noticed earlier in the call you didn’t sound fine, too,” Linda muttered. She looked at Margot with concern painted on her face.Contrary to Margot’s usual response, Linda’s kind voice irritated her.“Is that true? You got to tell me if you’re sick, Hon.” Harry attempted to touch his wife to feel her forehead until Margot dropped the glass she was holding. The shattering sound filled the kitchen, leaving everyone dumbfounded and confused except for Margot.“I told you not to

The room fell into silence after what Margot said. The latter raised her glass with a smile, urging everyone to make a toast.“Here’s for the end of my marriage of three years. Cheers!” she exclaimed and gulped down her wine.“Fantastic,” Margot mumbled as she savored the rich flavor of the beverage with her eyes closed. When she opened her eyes again, everyone looked at her with a frown on their faces.“What?” Margot played the game and joined in, wearing an innocent look on her seraphic-like face. “Why so quiet? Let’s eat. The food will get cold,” she added before picking up her fork to try the salad in front of her.“Margot, what are you thinking? This is not a funny joke,” Ryan said, looking solemnly at his daughter.“That’s how I felt when you said you’d marry Linda when I was five,” Margot mumbled. “You married her anyway. Now, guess what I’ll do next.” She turned to her husband and smiled. “I’m going to divorce Harry whether you like it or not,” she continued.“Woah! That’s cool

It wasn’t the first time Margot hailed a taxi. She somehow got used to it in the past whenever Judy invited her to hang out. Two minutes passed, and the taxi stopped in front of an old bar. She paid the driver, thanked him, and got out.“You’re not kidding, indeed! Let’s go inside. The others are waiting!” Judy exclaimed when she saw Margot coming out of the taxi. “And what’s with that outfit? Are you attending a wedding or what?” She commented, looking at her friend with amusement.“Today’s my wedding anniversary with Harry,” Margot said with a bitter smile.“Mmm. Was it marriage problems? How long have you been married again?”Margot inhaled deeply and sighed. “Three years. It will end soon, though,” she replied. “I’m getting a divorce.”Judy didn’t ask anything else after that. She guessed Margot wanted to forget whatever happened, so she offered her drinks instead.“Don’t hold back. It’s not like you’re always drinking. “Where have you been?” Harry’s deep and cold voice echoed through the walls. He was seated on the couch, waiting for his wife to come home for hours.Margot was quite surprised at her husband’s tone, but said nothing. She headed to the kitchen for a glass of water. Her lips formed a thin line when she felt Harry’s presence behind her back.“Give me a second,” she said before pouring more water into her glass to drink. After quenching her thirst, and soothing her throat with the cold water, Margot walked to the living room with Harry following behind her.She sat on the middle of the sofa, leaned her back, and crossed her legs. “Let’s start, shall we?”Harry’s face turned sour. He didn’t like the way she acted. He was always proud and thankful that his wife listened to his every word, but the woman in front of him was acting differently.“Margot, what is your problem? Margot was almost relieved when Harry managed to clear her misunderstanding between him and Linda, but to think she was right about him cheating after all took a toll on her emotional health.“I wanted to kill him! Earlier, when making his favorite breakfast, I was thinking of putting a liter of bleach on his food and drink. Then maybe he’d start babbling the truth from his bubbling mouth, no?” she continued, clutching her dress and shaking her legs.“But last night… I also had the urge to strangle him to death. Margot grabbed her phone, calling the cops. She couldn’t believe Harry would be shameless to show up after what happened last night. She took a deep breath and waited until someone picked up her call.“Hi, this is Margot… Um… Walton. My husband, Harry Walton, who is already on your record for abuse, has come to my house again. I have a restraining order against him, and I feel threatened,” Margot said, looking at Harry who proudly held his banner.“He is currently on my doorstep, holding a banner that says ‘sorry’, but if you’ve been slapped and cheated on by this guy several times, that word wouldn’t be enough. I need immediate assistance to ensure my safety,” she continued. After giving her address to the cops, Margot called her lawyer.“Hello, Atty. Powell. She realized Linda never acted that way until she told her about Harry’s illicit affair. She appreciated her company and couldn’t thank her enough for taking her side.“It’s okay. He was almost sure she was also having an affair behind his back. “I’m telling you, Margot. I’ll keep my lips sealed about it if you want. But you have to clarify that we’re not having problems and what happened at the party last time was a misunderstanding.”A sly smile formed on his lips. “What do you think?”Margot’s face was painted with disgust. “Go ahead. I don’t know what made you think I'm like you, but good luck anyway.”She walked away when Harry opened his mouth again.“Leo Brown,” he said, following her. “Isn’t that name familiar?
