Chapter 6 Warming up to Griffin but only slightly

The following morning was similar to the last. Abby presented me with a hot cup of coffee and was flipping through Griffin's file. She pointed at one of the females with him and informed me that it was his sister, Lisa that had been killed.

"It's crazy that so many famous people are not human. My subject Erza is the son of a Vegas Casino owner that's a real-life demon. He's got a way to get me so hot and bothered it's disturbing," she said with a grin. I sighed and took a sip of coffee before mentioning that I saw her getting plowed by Jordan. Abby's demeanor changed to an ashamed woman. I shook my head at her.

"Brian asked me to see if you'd see him one time. If you do, he said I could release my subjects occasionally," I said softly and she frowned.

"You can let them out without his stupid permission. I let mine out quite a lot," she informed me and I started to get pissed so I told her what Darya had told me but didn't mention her having an egg. Abby didn't say much about anything I had said so I assumed she already knew.

"You already knew?" I asked curiously in disappointment. She sighed and shrugged.

"I had my suspicions. I think Jordan and Brian both have been doing some shady things but who am I supposed to report it to? The higher-ups will argue that they aren't doing anything to humans so what does it matter? You know what I mean," she said earnestly. I nodded in understanding even though it was wrong on all levels. I rummaged through the dresser for a casual change of clothes and told Abby I was going to shower. I would have told her what Enzo mentioned about me being Griffin's mate but I didn't need her spilling that information to Jordan during their pillow talk. Pausing under the spray of the shower I lifted my silver necklace with my wedding ring and rubbed at it.

"Help me out, Tom. I'm so lost and confused. I need guidance," I mumbled sourly to myself. I cleaned up rather quickly and dressed in jean shorts and a plain t-shirt. I exited the bathroom with a towel wrapped around my hair.

"If you're doing exercise time I'd just brush your air and let it air dry. The desert just absorbs the water. It's great really," Abby offered and I thanked her as I pulled off the damp towel. I brushed out my hair and tucked the wet brush into my back pocket as I grabbed Griffin's file and got prepared to leave. Abby asked me to hold up and after grabbing herself a pair of sunglasses hooked my arm and pulled me out the door. I'd forgotten all about Brian's request and was shocked by Abby bringing it up.

"Tell Brian that I'd appreciate it more if he had the balls to ask me out himself," she mumbled and I nodded. We'd arrived at my steel door.

"Later, Abby gator," I teased and Abby laughed.

"After a while, Rockfordile," she replied respectively. I entered my subject's room to see them all dressed differently and clean. It was showering day for them as well. I glanced over at Griffin to see he was wearing basketball shorts and a red t-shirt. His hair was damp and falling into his gold eyes. I looked away when he turned towards me and hurried quickly to my small desk. I reread the schedule and made sure that I was correct on the activity schedule for the day. I noticed that Enzo was to receive blood in the afternoon and was curious about how. The thought disappeared from my mind as the pair of soldiers that had been present during the blood draws came into the room. My keen eye caught Malia's eyes following one of the men who looked to have some native American blood in him. The soldiers both raised their weapons. One was listening to an earpiece.

"Open, now," he ordered and trained his rifle between the subjects. Tristan was behaving aggressively and was low growling in his present human form. He was dressed in sweatpants and a plain white t-shirt that was damp. His ginger hair was still wet and I figured they must have just thrown clothes onto him.

After everyone had lined up they escorted the group to an outdoor area that was surrounded by razor wire. Half was covered with desert camo ghillie netting for shade. I took out my brush and started letting the air dry my long hair. I took a seat on a bench as the others started circling the perimeter. Malia was chatting with the soldier she'd been eyeing earlier and Enzo had lit a cigar and was blowing a thick cloud of smoke. It curled into the air around him. Scotty was running around chasing something and being silly. I noticed Griffin glancing off into the distance. He turned towards me and grinned devilishly. I smiled back as I looked away and towards the ground to see a lizard scampering by. It must have been what Scotty had been chasing around. The odd dog-human came up to me panting. I patted his sable-haired head and he closed his eyes and smiled before scampering off once again. I was minding my own business when the ginger asshole jumped out at me knocking me hard to the sandy ground, and knocking my glass off my face. He'd shifted into his red wolf and was chomping his jaws at me as I pushed against his chest to keep him out of my face. The last thing I expected was one of the soldiers to begin firing at him. His red sticky blood dripped all over me and I was certain some had gotten into my mouth due to my face being covered with his blood. I was wheezing and on my back having the dead wolf covering my chest. I watched Enzo and Griffin lift the dead weight off of me and I inhaled deeply and winced.

"Broken rib," I murmured and the soldiers helped me up. Griffin stood right in front of me and lifted my face with his fingers under my chin. His goldeneyes were shining very bright as he examined my face. I was surprised by him asking in Italian if I'd ingested any of the rogue's blood. I swallowed uncomfortably and felt a burning sensation in my gut. I shrugged a little and he cursed.

"If you did, you're going to become a lovely rogue chestnut she-wolf. The change is going to be extremely painful for you because you're human. You need to come to my cell and I will help you if you start to feel off. Bring several bags of ice when it starts," he told me worriedly as he handed me my eyeglasses. I nodded in shock, not wanting to become a wolf. Stupid ginger lumberjack bastard. My brow was furrowed and Enzo grinned slightly at me.

"It was inevitable because Griffin's your soulmate. Oh, it's hard to always be right," he said with exuberance. I rolled my eyes and let the soldier Malia was eyeing earlier escort me to the medical bay. He was eyeing me cautiously with his brown eyes and stopped me before entering the building.

"Malia tells me that you are different from the others and have a good heart. She told me I can trust you." I eyed him oddly and told him certainly.

He grinned slightly and changed right before my eyes into Jordan, then Brian.

"I'm Sani Hatahle and Malia's my mate," he said with a raised hand. I shook it and told him it was nice to meet him.

"There are a lot of us cryptids working undercover to take information to the leadership of our kind. They want to know what the humans are wanting with us," he added and I nodded with a smile.

"I will help you and your mate, the big alpha will help with your coming changes." I was shaking my head and saying I wasn't even sure I'd been infected. He grinned slightly causing tiny wrinkles to appear near his brown eyes. He handed me a towel he used to dry off his sweat to clean my bloody face. It wasn't any grosser than the blood so I thanked him as I wiped most of it off my skin.

"I can sense a shift in your aura so it's very likely that you were infected whether you're ready for the change or not, doctor," he said firmly. I cringed internally and gritted my teeth as we entered the medical bay. Jordan Bryce was there and perked up seeing me being led to an examination table.

"What a surprise to see you in my area, Emma. I haven't gotten the chance to give you my condolences for Tom's passing. Things must be so lonely for a sweet, attractive, and healthy woman like yourself," he said with an air of creepiness. He told the soldier he could head back and I grabbed Sani's arm and asked him to please stay with me. Thankfully he nodded his head and told Jordan that he was to stay and help with my ribcage and then escort me back.

"So why are you here, what happened to your ribcage, sweetheart," he asked me and I explained that I think I've got a broken or fractured rib from being attacked by one of my subjects.

Jordan nodded and became very curious about whether I'd been injured in any way.

"Did you receive any nicks or scratches? Perhaps a bite," he asked curiously? I shook my head and said only my ribcage had been injured so he suggested an x-ray.

"Then you'll know what you need to do since you're very knowledgeable," he added and waved for me to follow after him. I avoided looking directly at him since I'd seen his bare gluteus maximus up close and personal. All I could picture was him thrusting into Abby which for me was revolting. I stood still as he clicked the film.

"I'm certain that you already know what your injuries are, this is only to confirm it," he added and told me to take a seat while I waited for the x-ray. I took a seat and Jordan offered me a shot of morphine which I refused. It was painful but I'd make do.

"I'll take some high dose ibuprofen and will take it easy," I told him honestly and he nodded as he handed me 600mg ibuprofen.

"Take that bottle, two pills every six hours," he said firmly. He left again and came back with a sheet of film that he clamped to the light panel. I stood slowly and examined my bones. Jordan was rubbing his chin.

"Doesn't appear that any damage was done. You probably just got the wind knocked out of you and deep bruising. You're going to be fine, doctor. Have a good day," he told me quickly and I looked up to see a lovely scaled woman with long green hair and big dark eyes, wearing just a lab coat.

"She's an ocean nymph," Sani said to me. I was open-mouthed watching her as I prepared to leave.

"Can you take me to a private lab where I can run a few tests on myself because I was certain I had two broken ribs but am already feeling a hundred percent better," I mumbled softly and Sani laughed and told me the werewolf blood was healing me to prepare for my complete change. I looked up at him and furrowed my brow. He escorted me out of Jordan's section and to another area that had been taped off. Sani slid his key card into a lock in a room that was located in a separate area from all the others.

The room he'd brought me to was an older area but the equipment would work all the same. A war or something must have occurred in this section I surmised from the blackened metal and huge claw marks that gouged completely through the metal. Sani noticed and told me there was an uprising at one time and many were saved.I uncovered a microscope, and syringe and drew a sample of my blood to examine. My mind was spinning at all the insanity being brought into it. First off cryptids were real, secondly, I might be becoming one. I gritted my teeth as I anchored the glass slide and adjusted the magnification on the microscope. My one-peering eye grew larger and I made a surprised sound. I hadn't even seen this special blood they were all after but as I looked down at the oddly golden shimmer on the blood cells slowly converting the normal ones next to it I huffed. The cycle continued as I was viewing it but I realized that it was a very slow process. I leaned back and rubbed my strained eyes

Geesh woman, thought I was going to have to get a prince to kiss you. Here's some coffee," Abby responded cheerfully. I grabbed the mug and asked what was going on. Abby hurried to my bed and sat down next to me."You're getting more subjects. That's what I overheard, guess there was a big uproar in your section," she said with a grin. I rubbed my eyes wondering if any of the things that happened with Griffin were real or just my imagination."Can't believe that you were attacked. Jordan told Brian that you needed to rest but damn girl, you've been asleep for almost two entire days," Abby laughed and smacked my butt before rising from my bed. Two days? I ran my hand over my neck and realized that my necklace was indeed gone. I tossed the covers to the side and got up to stretch. Abby whistled over at me and I glanced over at her with a questi

I was happy Enzo had returned but I was confused as to why he would."You know Brian is probably suspicious of you and can sense when people are different," I mumbled sourly and he chuckled."I'd certainly hope so, the man is a strange concoction of several different cryptids. I shudder to think what he appears like when he shifts," he replied and I shuddered. I asked what I should call him and he smiled and told me Enzo was fine as his powers of persuasion were very powerful and far-reaching. We entered the yard and Darya and Griffin both raised a curious eyebrow at the familiar vampire. Enzo elbowed me and asked if I'd submitted to my alpha yet. I narrowed my eyes and told him no. Enzo waved his hand and laughed."Better hope he gets to you before the others when you go into your estrus little lady or those monstrosities are gonna try desperately to mount your sweet tang," he said confidently and I shook my head at his nonsense."I'd rather let Scotty have his way with me," I mumbled

At least Jordan's beast was more of a gentleman than Brian. He entered an area that had been through a war and carried me into an untouched room that was surprisingly really nice. "Take a shower and wash that bastard's scent from your skin. There are clean clothes in the back closet," he mumbled softly and I eyed him curiously."Thank you," I murmured and ran into the bathroom sliding the door closed. After turning on the shower I stood under extremely hot water and scrubbed viciously at my skin and private area. The injuries Jordan had caused on my shoulder had already healed themselves and I checked the area for scars but there were none. I had also thrown up twice over the thick semen that came out of my body. I kept repeating to myself how he would die. My wolf cheered me on in support. I heard the door slide open a bit and Jordan cleared his throat."I brought us both dinner if you think you can eat," he said firmly and I replied quickly saying okay. I washed off what I could of

I woke up smelling cinnamon rolls and coffee. I sat up and threw the covers off me. I asked my wolf if she thought I should be wary of Jordan and she tsked at me. I rolled my eyes as I crept around the suite following the delicious scent. I tried the door and it slid open and must have been unlocked by Jordan. My eyes widened at seeing both Griffin and Enzo in the tiny kitchen baking together."Ciao Bella," Enzo said and I narrowed my eyes at the pair."Why are you both here," I asked curiously and Griffin huffed in annoyance."You're mine Emma and Jordan says you're his. Needless to say, we are both going to work on gaining your heart," he told me plainly and I glanced over at Enzo and shook my head."I'm not interested in participating," I said sternly and poured myself a coffee. I was curious about Jordan and where he was when Enzo approached me."Your roommate has taken over your subjects and is completely enamored with Griffin and I feel." Griffin threw a towel at Enzo and told hi

I was packing a borrowed duffel bag and holding up the bottoms of my two-piece swimwear when Jordan came into my doorless bedroom. I watched him eye the bikini bottoms approvingly and his human green eyes landed on my narrowed blue ones."I got some bad news, the commander-in-chief is releasing Griffin due to his "popularity" so he's probably going to follow after us to the lake," he said bitterly. I shrugged my shoulders, not caring in the slightest."I'm not concerned. I figure both of you will be swarmed with women once we arrive so I'll be able to catch some rays in peace," I replied staunchly and Jordan frowned. He told me he wasn't letting me out of his sight encase I got accosted with unwanted attention. "How noble of you," I teased and he started tickling my sides. I tried avoiding him as I fell back onto the bed and he stumbled on top. I was looking up at him with a grin. Jordan leaned down and pressed his lips to mine and kissed me. I heard beeping and opened my heavy eyelids to see I was in a room with walls made out of sheets of clear plastic. Lifting my arm I frowned at seeing it was cuffed to the bed rail. I focused more down the side and could tell there were more patients lined up along the row. I glanced up and saw concrete walls with cage-covered led lights. I tried sitting up and pain shot through my neck. I winced painfully and settled myself back down. The plastic curtain flew open and Dr. Bryce stepped into the room looking down at me in indifference. I was just about to open my mouth when he asked me how I was feeling. "What happened, Jordan," I questioned outright? He exhaled harshly and pulled a chair to sit at the side of my bed."The commander-in-chief went rogue so they moved me to a new high-security facility after our altercation…um, Brian followed you and ended up marking you Emma, he also altered you and your wolf's DNA. The bite he gave you also isn't healing. I've been running tests and it

As I showered I was curious about where I was. The facility I was at was very large and seemed like it was underneath a solid substance. As Jordan was carrying me to the showering area, we passed hundreds of people of all ages tucked away in their very own sections of plastic. Some were unconscious and hooked up to breathing machines and other medical testing equipment. I wondered if they were all test subjects the government was using to infect with the golden blood. My eyes widened at my thoughts. I was certain that I saw little children. Jordan Bryce wouldn't be involved in such depravity, would he? I rinsed my body and shut off the water and peeked around the tiled wall. Jordan was down the hall waiting for me. He looked up and I waved. I tightened the towel around me as he started towards me with my clothing. Grabbing the pile from him I didn't notice his eyes glaring off to the side. When I glanced over the same way I realized that he was eyeing that Sandra woman. I gritted my te

I was being pretty entertained until I heard Abby in the distance scolding none other than my little girl who was running full speed as her fire wolf. She passed me and headed to Ezra and his son. I yelled out her name and Noah turned right when the creature swiped him across his chest causing gold spray to cover the ground he fell to. Raven growled ferociously and jumped over Noah's prone body and stomped the ground with her two tiny front paws creating a fire barrier around Noah. Her small wolf guarded him and the flames flickered on her back."Nice form daughter and you already have discovered one of our gifts with the flames. I'm impressed, daughter," Zurac announced proudly and went to help Ezra. Noah leaned back on his elbows watching Raven with narrowed eyes and a devilish grin. His eyes were bright red. Moments later, Abby and I were startled by a loud yell of ouch. I gasped softly at seeing the end of an obvious fork poking out of Noah's chest. I glanced over at Raven trying to look innocent."Raven, that's not nice," I said sternly and she glared at Noah and told us he was giving her kissy lips. Abby snickered and yanked the utensil out of his flesh. She wiped away the shimmering blood and said,"he heals fast but you shouldn't hurt him too much because it tires him out." Raven headed towards the taller boy and pecked his cheek telling him sorry. His red eyes flashed and he grinned devilishly and told her it was alright. He ma

I smoothed out my clean blouse over my much larger and unfortunately sagging breasts and examined myself in the full length mirror. My wavy chestnut hair fell all the way to my butt. I debated on whether to put it up or not and decided that it would be down after hearing Zurac tell me it was time. I exited the bedroom and glanced up at Zurac."Are we taking the Jeep?" I asked curiously and he eyed me oddly and told me yeah. I smiled and started past him and was surprised by feeling his hand splayed out on the middle of my lower back as we headed outside. I went straight to where Zurac's jeep was and waited for him to unlock the door. We both got settled and Zurac grinned at me."We're going to Biysk and it will be at least an hour drive and I'd like to ask you some questions about your claim of being my mate," he said softly. I grinned slightly and told him of course. I noticed that his eyes were glowing and cleared my throat."Your fire is shining in your eyes, might want to tone it d

I laid Raven on the bed and grabbed the landline phone within the room. I dialed the operator to get connected to the USA and asked for the Relruz hotel in Vegas. Thirty minutes later I was on hold waiting for Abby to answer. Once she got on she screamed into my ear."You're not dead," she squealed and I told her everything that had happened."Well shit Em, cook for the man," she suggested and I laughed."You never had a problem getting a man, just keeping them," she told me truthfully and I groaned. She told me her and Ezra were going to visit and she'd help me kick Zurac's dumb butt. I chuckled softly and told her I needed to do it the way the moon goddess wanted in order to get Aisha back but was thankful for her friendship and advice. I gritted my teeth seeing through blurry vision the lovely woman I knew was Monica, nursing my child. I stomped my foot, having enough of this bullshit. "I demand an audience with the Alpha and you as well, Raina. I know your mate was Scotty the Adlet and I know I had golden blood that was unique and took gifts of those not naturally born. I'm Emma, the blind, fatter, dumpier human version but nonetheless still Emma Rockford. Ask me anything and I'll answer," I said firmly and Raina rolled her eyes and told us to get into the shed along with the rogue. We were shoved inside and I heard the door lock and cursed bitterly. You were one of our lesson studies and one of the highly wanted individuals by the world's military because your blood is very unique and could eliminate the entire project which ironically fell apart irregardless," he mumbled sourly. Seth ran his fingers through his thinning sable hair and surprised me by saying that Kenan was mixed with the DNA of some demon named Ezra. I snickered at that and he eyed me angrily. Today they were going to learn about skinning and tanning hides. I held my protruding belly as I watched the plane landing on the runway. Raina and Eric were coming for a visit. I covered my laugh at seeing Raina's bigger belly and Eric dotting on her. It was obvious that he loved her and the moon goddess should allow them to be mates. They both had retired from the hunters and had taken half of the captives for their pack. Raina wobbled towards me and we attempted to awkwardly hug each other, but our baby bumps were in the way."Eric proposed and I said yes," she said excitedly and showed me her shiny rock."Abby's getting married after she has her baby and I have mine.
