KELLEN

The days had passed by slowly and I understood why prisoners would make tally marks in the cells to count the days. I had no idea how long I had been here, three, maybe four weeks?

It was two days until the opening day when the Gladiator games would begin. That much I knew. 28 days of challenges. 28 days of fighting to survive.

When Teal explained the specifics of the month-long games, he told us how we wouldn’t just be fighting each other but slaves or volunteers from surrounding packs, their champions.

Currently, Teal was considered the Alphas champion, but we would be facing other challenges. He gave examples of past competitions but he couldn’t say for sure what we were to expect as it was different every year.

Our slave barracks were large and could house around 25-30 men, there were around 26 holed up in here with me. Over the past week, the guards had allowed us to exercise and train in the common area.

Each day I had woken up before sunrise and began a round of ex

TALA I stood outside my father’s office, pushing myself against the wall as tight as possible, listening to the conversation that was taking place inside. “I brought the fucking King of wolves, show me some respect Vargr!” A familiar voice hissed and bit out at my father. “Show me some respect, because all this… can be taken away.” “You dare to threaten me, you disgrace of a bear!” He shouted back at the man. I could only think of one were-bear that would talk to my father like that, aside from Orion. Jack. “Since Orion’s death, a power struggle has emerged; you do not want to find yourself on the opposite side to me.” Jack spat back, the tension in his voice strained and vicious. “I will take back my rightful title as King of Bhakhil, it is my birthright!” Along with the anger, there was also desperation in my father’s voice. So he truly was born a royal. He always said he was a king, but I could never believe him. “I want what’s owed to me Vargr… Where is the witch? I know Ori

Gladiator Games Day 1 KELLEN Earlier in the morning, we had been given another new pair of shorts. They were the same off-white linen-cotton as the other pairs. Thin and lightweight, and barely came down to the top of my thigh. I looked down at them, they reminded me of an adult diaper. Yet these were almost see-through and held nothing in place. I found out we would not be fighting today. Instead, we would be presented to the crowd and brought before the Alpha. After that, they had a small show and then the Alpha’s and surrounding pack Alpha’s champions would put on a fight, to showcase their strength. I wasn’t nervous, more like anxious. Conri had been bouncing around in my head all morning, eager to get in the arena. I had to tell him several times to calm down and when I asked him what his problem was he just got more excited and paced. At this point, he was giving me a headache and I had to block him out. I wanted to stay alert and he was breaking my concentration. It was un

TALA Eloise helped me put on the thin blue tunic dress and then braided my long red hair, wrapping around my head like a crown. I applied a coat of mascara and clear lip gloss, just to give my lips a shine. I stared at my reflection in the mirror of my vanity. “You look beautiful Tala,” Eloise praised. “El won't you be coming too? A lady always needs her maid.” I asked my best friend. She smiled, her lips pulling into a tight line. Her smile was not of happiness rather it was fake and forced. “I have been told I am not needed, you will be escorted by Jack and the wolf.” She said. I could tell she was upset and holding back and I didn’t need to ask her what was wrong. I already knew. Today, my father would be announcing my pairing with Jasper. Her mate. And there was nothing we could do about it. I felt guilty. Even though I didn’t want to, I was stealing her future, her happiness. Her mate. “We have 28 days until the full moon, Jasper and I will find a way out of this. I promise.

LAMIA “Can we trust what he has told us?” Abner asked as we sat in Mathias's office. “I trust him.” I said, “So far Finn has not shown any signs of lying, and he has been more than cooperative.” “Yet he still had the balls to make demands,” Mathias grunted from his chair, he was sitting behind his desk and I was pacing back and forth. We had questioned Finnegan, and true to himself he had told us everything. From, his mother not dying, when Orion claimed, but many years later after she birthed another child from Orion. A daughter who was 5 years younger than Finnegan, and had been locked away since she was 15 years old, To how when Orion did kill Finn’s mother, he left her corpse to rot in the cell with her daughter. He told us about the inhibitor chips Orion’s bitch, Shayna, had invented. He knew how they worked but he didn’t know how they were made or how to deactivate them, which is why we sent for Damon. Who was currently with Xander trying to figure the thing out? We showed

Day 4 of the Gladiator Games KELLEN Three days had gone by since I first laid my eyes on my mate, I hadn’t slept because each night when I closed my heavy lids, her striking blue angelic eyes with just that hint of green invaded the dark corners of my mind, keeping sleep at bay. I had to, no. I needed to see her again. What were the chances of me being sold into slavery, coming here, and then meeting my mate? Fate. My own conscious whispered to me. I didn’t even know her name, I wasn’t even sure if I had truly let go of Lamia, but I wanted my mate, to touch her, to feel her, to whisper her name on my lips as I looked into her eyes. I wanted to unpin her flaming hair and let my fingers run through its length. I laid on my cot, my cock hardening for the first time in over a month, at the thought of her porcelain skin pressed against mine, pretending I knew what It felt like. Heaven is what I imagined, soft and smooth. Without thinking I found my hand dipping down into my shorts an

DAY 7 OF THE GAMES TALA It had been a week since I last laid eyes on my mate. I hated the games, but each day I went in hopes of catching a glimpse of him. Each day I watched as men fought and men died to entertain the higher ranks. All our Gladiators were slaves, whereas the visiting packs' Gladiators were volunteers or criminals who were condemned to the games. Only a few other Alphas had slaves in their packs and they were the ones who were closely allied with my father. Each day I had been escorted by Jack the bear and Oliver his wolf. I was told they would be staying by my side until my father paid them what was owed to them for delivering the Wolf Prince. It made my skin crawl whenever Jack and Olive were near me. The way they looked at me like I was their next meal, a platter of meat ready to be feasted on had my stomach in knots. I put on a brave face, not letting them see how badly they affected me and scared me. Today I wore a simple light blue summer dress that hung ju

Day 8 of The Gladiator Games TALA Initiation week had ended, thank the gods, and even though Jasper had to attend the slave girl's initiations, thankfully he wasn’t made to partake, just observe. I was so relieved because even though my mother was pretty much knocked out for the whole week, I sat by her bed every evening after the games anyway, with Eloise by my side. El and Jasper may not have marked each other, however, if he had had sex with anyone, Eloise still would have felt something. Not the shredding burn that makes you want to rip your heart out like I have heard my mother describe. But something more akin to an ashy taste in your mouth and a really bad stomach ache. Since Eloise hadn’t felt any discomfort over the last week, I knew Jasper had remained faithful and I had a much deeper respect for him for not allowing himself to follow in our father's footsteps. His respect for the bond gave me hope for my two best friends. I looked at Jasper, who was currently sitting o

KELLEN Teal left me, turning and leaving the common area without another word after telling me the person was waiting for me in the armory. I couldn’t figure out for the life of me who would risk visiting me in the barracks at this time of night. As I made my way closer to the weapons rooms I caught the scent of Oranges and Sea salt. Conri was mentally whipping his tail around in my head, the scent of our mate driving his senses and hormones into a frenzy. My heartbeat picked up as I drew nearer to the entrance, realization dawning on me that my mate was here. Then came the worry. This was no place for a woman. I noticed two guards standing outside the room and as I approached they nodded their heads and stepped to the side allowing me entrance. As soon as I entered a figure in a black cloak turned to me, and my eyes met her cerulean blues. My heart beat furiously and my body began to tremble as I tracked the parting of her lips, a barely whispered gasp leaving her perfectly shape

KELLEN I stare down at the little bundle in my arms, his eyes struggling to open and his mouth straining to yawn. I welcomed the smile that spread across my face as I took in his wrinkled face and hands. His eyes blinked open and already only a few hours old they were brilliant pools of blue, somewhere between the color of mine and Talas. I stole a glance at his mother, who looked at us with adoring eyes that sparkled with love and happiness mirroring my own. “What shall we name him?” Tala asked, adjusting her position to sit up a little better. I sat on the side of the bed cradling our son in my arms. Jonda had come in to meet her nephew and stepped out when Tala had dozed off after giving birth, to give us privacy and to call Mike, who was on his way back here. “I’m not sure” I spoke gently, still enamored with my son and his small movements, eyes trained on him. It's strange how I thought I would never feel love like I did for Lamia, then in one crazy turn of events, I was whis

3 Weeks Later KELLEN “Ready?” I asked Tala “Yeah,” She squeaked excitedly bouncing on her feet, hardly containing her excitement. We had been out on runs together several times over the last three weeks, but for some reason, today she was overly excited. Lamia, King, Tobias, and the babies had left a week and a half ago, permanently moving to Riocht. Unfortunately, that meant Aunt Vivian went with her, and Uncle Marcus was going to follow behind them once he had everything organized here. I was going to miss them. The palace would seem even emptier now. I had spoken to Tawny. I didn’t like her position, but she was tough and she knew what she was doing. She could handle herself, when she needed me I would be there for her, It satisfied me to hear she was planning on heading to Riocht in the next coming days to meet the kids. It warmed my heart knowing Lamia and Tawny had formed an unbreakable friendship, that no matter what they would always have each other, thinking of them had

1 WEEK LATER HUNJI “Congratulations again your highness, I looked forward to returning and meeting the three of them.” I ended the call with Lamia. I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact the young Queen had given birth to triplets and was thankful the little girl had survived. I shoved the satellite phone into my backpack, along with the power bars, two bottles of water, and a change of clothes. My swords were already attached to my back. It wasn’t much for the journey I was about to embark on but then I was hoping to make quick work of finding Finn’s sister and bring her back in as less time as possible. “Do you have everything you need?” Jasper asked me walking into his office. “Yes Alpha, as much as I need to carry.” I zipped up the bag replying to him. I had spent a little over a week here; helping the new Alpha and his Luna adjust. Kellen had left a handful of his warriors here and a Gladiator named Corey had decided to stay in Bhakhil now it was under the rein o

OLIVER How Ironic, that Alpha Travis would have me put in the same cell that I once had him held in for months. It took us four days of traveling to get back to MacTire. At first, I laughed that they would take me back to the place I grew up in. I knew every single inch of that castle, every nook, every cranny, every secret passage, and tunnel. It would be easy to break out of their cells and leave the dungeons, I knew the mechanisms by heart. How wrong I was. I realized it was idiotic for me to think they would not have made upgrades and changes to the castle. I understood that as soon as the guards led me down below and into the dungeons, bringing me to Travis’ old cell. There were new barred doors and the floor had been painted with silver, leaving a small strip for a prisoner to walk on. I was stripped down and hosed down, then given a pair of thin shorts and shoved into my new home. There was no way I was breaking out of this cell. A cot, a chair, and a bucket were all that fu

KELLEN 11.45 PM my watch read. I lowered my arm exposing the moon high above me; she looked like she was smiling tonight. The birth of triplets had probably pleased the moon goddess. The chosen Queen had done well and at only two days old they were able to determine their races. The Eldest and biggest, Zachary would have the spirit of a bear, taking after his father. Maximus, the second eldest and only slightly smaller than his brother was a wolf and the smallest and prettiest, Amali also smelled as if she would be a wolf but her scent was different from her brothers, perhaps she would be a Dire wolf like her mother, or a Lycan, also from her mother’s side. Of course, she could just be an ordinary werewolf too. But I didn’t think so. She was special, maybe because she held my name and I was biased? I would spoil all Lamia’s children, but mostly her. Both boys had been born with the mark of a royal, their little crown birthmarks sitting on their hips just like mine and Lamia’s. I w

KELLEN We were all currently gathered in the Beta’s suite that was on the opposite end of the hall to the Delta’s suite where Lamia had been in labor for several hours now and our women, along with several pack doctors, had been coming in and out there gathering all the necessities to deliver the triplets. They were concerned about the third baby, it was so tiny, and the doctors worried about the child being underdeveloped and not making it. They wanted to take her to the pack infirmary, yet moving her could endanger the smallest child, or worse rupture something in Lamia. So she would be giving birth here. I, like the other men who gathered in the Beta suite, for some reason thought this would be quick. We were all concerned for Lamia, but it gave us all a chance to talk and catch up, keeping the business conversation light and focusing on the more meaningful conversations, yet subjects will come up and I couldn’t ignore my duty for long. By tomorrow I would be back to being a King

TALA We arrived at a port on the mainland a day and a half later, both Tobias and Fergus (I refused to call him Rogue) were more than happy to be on dry land again, and much to my amusement, they both bent down and kissed the ground. “It wasn’t that bad.” I laughed at them “You just need to find your sea legs” “Easy for you to say princess, you were born with sea legs. It's in your blood” Tobias pointed at me giving me a non-amused glare. “I was born in a desert Tobias, no matter who my father was. I had never even seen a body of water, especially the ocean since I left Bhakhil. Just because my real father was a Sea Dog, it doesn’t mean anything.” “It means everything. I personally am a mountain bear. I prefer the cold weather and the streams full of fish, not on a vessel in the middle of nowhere floating for the sharks to come eat.” I rolled my eyes at Tobias “Stop being a big baby,” I jested to the overly large bear shifter who was friendly, and most of the time, when he wasn’t
