The air was suddenly dead silent, though a cold snort could soon be heard.

"You'd better not regret this," Ivy eventually snarled through her teeth in disdain.

I was quite calm in contrast.

In fact, I had been simulating this scenario in my mind countless times, ever since I decided to go through with it.

If anything, I had already predicted every word she said.

"Don't worry, I'm not one for taking backsies. Just sign the divorce papers, and we can decide on a date together. How does next Wednesday sound—"

Ivy hung up on me before I could finish, leaving me speechless.

Damn that bitch! All she ever did was hang up on me!

Glancing at my watch, however, I decided that this was not the time to press the divorce issue. That would simply have to wait for tomorrow, as a momentous event in my life awaited!

I left the house after quickly washing out, revving my motorbike before speeding toward my destination.

When I arrived, I stopped under the shade since the summer sun was ablaze overhead, while my eyes scanned the densely packed rows of shops.

Even though I was patiently waiting, my heart was thumping.

Then, after two hours of waiting, my eyes narrowed sharply as I spotted a couple.

My target finally showed up!

Still, I waited until they entered a cafe before getting off my bike, tailing them closely.

As they sat at a table opposite each other, I picked a quiet corner, watching silently.

The lady wore a pink dress, her bright eyes twinkling spiritedly as she chatted happily with the man.

On the other hand, the man was the perfect gentleman—prim and proper, be it in distance or manners.

As such, if I had not gone back in time, I would never have predicted the shocking scene that would soon unfold.

When the man suddenly stood up and headed to the washroom, the sweet smile on the lady's face faded once he was out of sight.

Then, as she kept an eye at the direction of the restroom from time to time, she took out a tiny bottle of clear fluid from her pocket.

I clenched a fist while whipping out my phone, aiming the camera squarely at her as she emptied the entire bottle into the man's coffee, even stirring it for good measure.

Once that was done, she hid the bottle and acted as if nothing happened while waiting for the man to return.

And when he did, the girl was on her feet, welcoming him back sweetly while sliding him his coffee.

Clearly charmed, the man was about to drink when I steadily walked over to their table with my phone in hand as I spoke calmly, "'Never drink anything that's been left out of your sight.' That's what you taught me, or have you forgotten?"

The couple turned toward me when they heard me, though the man scowled when our eyes met. "What are you doing here, Isaac?"

"Long time no see, Kyle."

Kyle Urban snorted before asking sarcastically, "Where's the noble Ms. Jenner? I thought you can't be apart from her for one second."

I was not at all annoyed despite my best friend clearly throwing shade at me.

We grew up together and could basically read each other's minds, but we had a falling out a year ago because I was hell-bent on marrying Ivy.

He had tried to talk me out of it countless times, ultimately calling me delusional, seeing love where there was none to be found.

And he was certainly right—I had even set the bar for being delusional in my last life, refusing to hear a word of it.

That was why back then, I abandoned Kyle, and we never reconciled even until he died.

And Linda Singer, this lady with him who appeared so guileless and harmless, was the reason he died.

She was both Kyle's neighbor and a serial honey-trapper, drugging men so that they would force themselves on her.

And when the deed was done, she would have gathered incriminating photos and videos of her target, threatening them to pay her off each month or she would upload them to certain sites. In Kyle's case, he had fallen for it too and ended up borrowing from loan sharks, and eventually got crippling depression and ended his own life.

I was there at his funeral, remorseful and hysterical—all I wanted was to have him back.

That was why I would definitely save him this time!

Hence, taking Kyle's slight in stride, I sat beside him, throwing an arm around him as I chuckled. "Ivy Jenner? She's nothing to me—I can touch grass anytime I want. You, on the other hand, are hanging out with a farm animal."

Linda's pretty face darkened right then. "What are you talking about, sir? Why are you insulting me? We don't even know each other."

I chuckled coolly, dispensing with disguises. "What am I talking about? You know what you did. And don't call me sir—your respect only makes me cringe."

Linda's eyes widened, briefly flickering in panic, but she soon forced herself to stay calm.

With tears suddenly welling up in her eyes, she turned to Kyle. "Who is this guy? Why is he suddenly slandering me?"

Nevertheless, the look on Kyle's face had already changed as he glanced at Linda.

We were basically bros for years, and he would definitely trust me.

"What did she do?" he asked.

I simply showed him the footage I recorded, with Kyle's expression darkening as he watched.

And seeing that I had everything on video, Linda suddenly got on her feet, ready to flee.

However, Kyle caught her even before she got up.

He did not punch her, thanks to years of self-discipline, instead telling me calmly, "Would you mind calling the cops for me, Isaac?"

-

We both headed to Kyle's home once we filed the police report, though his expression remained gloomy. "She helped me out a few times and was flirting with me from time to time. I thought that she liked me and wanted things to get serious… Well, thank goodness you came when you did."

I chuckled as he summed up a thousand words into a single line of gratitude. "Well, I do wonder how many good men have been tricked by her innocent looks."

The relief of bailing my best friend out of trouble also gave me another thought.

If I could change Kyle's fate, did that not mean that I could change mine too?

Trading a knowing smile just then, Kyle asked, "How have you been this past year?"

I shook my head, as I decided to be honest.

That left Kyle anxious. "What, is that broad abusing you?"

Before I could say a word, he scowled. "Look, I'm not taking you in if it's just a typical lover's quarrel. I don't want to waste my breath warning you, only for the same shit to happen again. I simply refuse to condone stupidity."

I shrugged. "And I'm not going to stay stupid. I've already started divorce proceedings with Ivy."

Kyle gaped at me in disbelief.

"F-For real?!" he cried. "Can you actually bring yourself to leave her? You're always saying that you're only in it for that pretty face and that banging body, and that you'd stay loyal for life."

There was no doubt that Ivy had skin as white as snow, along with attractive long legs and an ample bosom. And there was no doubt that in my last life, I had been deeply in love with her up until my death.Looking Kyle in the eye, I admitted, "Everyone has that phase where they're young and stupid. Either way, she has another man now—it's just not right to force myself on her.""What?! That bitch is now cheating on you too?""No." I shook my head, explaining, "She loved another even before we married. That doesn't count as cheating."While it was too late when I came to realize the truth, I believed that Ivy had never cheated in our two-year marriage, and her one true love had been interested in someone else. Even if Ivy could come on strong at times, she knew better than to go too far. However, we only grew further apart by the third year of our marriage. And with my illness making things worse, I had no way of finding out.Nonetheless, Kyle's cheeks were flushed with indignati

As I closed my eyes, I somehow remembered why Ivy would suffer from stomach diseases. She used to be a workaholic, often neglecting her diet before we married, and that habit led to actual illness over time.My heart broke for her, and after training hard on my culinary skills when we got married, I managed to get her to appreciate eating again, and the stomach diseases plaguing her were soon gone.I just did not think that she would suffer a relapse so soon when I was gone. Tut, tut—the woman did not even know how to take care of herself. That was when I had another thought. Her one true love was a doctor, so if she was feeling ill, she would just have to go to him, flirting while seeking comfort…Forget it. That was not any of my business.Come tomorrow, I would pester her for our divorce and to end things as soon as possible.-The next day, Kyle was out of bed early, telling me there was a situation at the office that he had to resolve urgently."I've sent you the address

Caught in shock and disbelief, I demanded, "How many times do I have to tell you that I want a divorce? Heck, I've already signed my end of the divorce agreement. But after all this time, you're still convinced that I'm joking around?"Ivy reared her lofty figure as she slowly strode up to me. "Playing hard-to-get is novel the first time, but the second or the third time? That's just annoying."If you're done, just head home already. You know I've been in a bad mood lately."I stared at her impassive face and suddenly chuckled. "Could you stop giving yourself so much credit? You're not oxygen—I can still live without you."I'll say it again: I want a divorce, and it's not a joke—I'm dead serious."However, Ivy nodded as if in understanding, taking a couple of steps back as if victory was in her grasp. "You just want money, don't you? How much do you want? Just name your price—I don't have time to waste, and don't even try to embarrass me in public."My face paled from humiliation

Fortunately, the elevator opened just then.I hurried inside, jamming my finger on the button to go down as I wanted to get away from this place.Even as I forced myself to calm down and headed to a graveyard, I was rejoicing that my bike did not come from Ivy's money.I had just stopped when my phone rang, my expression turning cool as I saw who it was.Still, I answered, "Dad?"The middle-aged man's voice on the other end was filled with vigor. "It's been a while since you came home. Drop by today if you can—have dinner with the family. I have something to tell you as well."I was used to my father's script and nodded. "Got it."As I alighted, I strode past various gravestones, eventually stopping in front of one.I stared blankly at the photo on it, which was of a woman with a kind smile.Eventually, I mustered a smile too. "Mom, I've come to visit."I sat on the ground, tears welling up in my eyes as I wiped the photo. "Are you upset it took me so long to visit? It's al

Same shit, different day.I would never deny that I had been in love with Ivy, but my dear father Henry had certainly schemed hard for my sake.He naturally had his ulterior motives—in fact, his company grew like clockwork as soon as he partnered with Jenner Inc.And after I married Ivy, he would always call me home, telling me repeatedly to sweet-talk Ivy, just so that he could squeeze her for more capital to fund his company's growth. It seemed that be it in the last life or this one, my marriage and myself were mere tools. In fact, Henry had never cared if married life was good for me, while I slaved away for him just because he was my father. From a certain point of view, I was every bit the freeloader Ivy said I was. Even as my rage blazed inside, I put more food on my own plate before looking up at Henry in disdain."Ivy doesn't owe us anything," I told him calmly, "so I'm not going to ask her for anything. "Hmm…" Ivy murmured nonchalantly, seemingly uninterested.Jack was delighted nonetheless, thinking that Ivy was agreeing to give him a job, only for Ivy to continue just then, "I'm sorry, but I'm not a person who gives handouts. You have neither the credentials nor the experience to get a job in Jenner Inc."Jack's smile stiffened. "Ivy…"I was already smiling, even as Ivy suddenly snapped at Jack, "Did I ever allow you to use my first name? Did your parents never teach you basic manners?"Also, you're not even as good looking as Isaac. And without brains or any skills to speak of, why would Isaac be worried about you? That you'd snap?"Jack's hand trembled even as he held his phone, his face turning dark.Even I could not stop myself from laughing out loud, when Ivy said, "I know you're there, Isaac. Uncle Benji stayed silent, but I did not give up. "Please, Uncle Benji…"He simply turned away, clearly refusing to talk.I did not pressure him for my part. I had been cold, and there was nothing I could say to make things better. I could hear a laugh of disdain from the other end, before Ivy's lofty voice rang in my ears. "You're the one who stated clearly in the divorce agreement that you wanted nothing—and you drafted said agreement yourself."It's only been days, and you're now demanding compensation for mental distress and the like. But in the end, aren't you just doing it for the money? Is it that hard to admit that you're a greedy freeloader?"I could even imagine Ivy's haughty smirk on the other end, but I did not stop myself from firing back. "Greedy? There's really no truth when you start with your insults. But I'm not interested in arguing either—think what you will, but you're paying me alimony.""And why is that?" Ivy asked icily."Because I cooked the food you ate for a year," I growled through clenched teeth. My face paled as my heart felt torn. "Have you recovered? How were you doing abroad?""Yeah, I've made a full recovery." Millie smiled. "Fracture healing and rehab took over a year, and now I can walk just fine. As for life abroad… It just doesn't feel like home."Then, turning to look me in the eyes, she sighed. I nodded. "Alright, thanks."I hated the fact that I didn't divorce Ivy sooner, or I'd have been able to afford Uncle Benji's medical fees. One hundred grand… I only had twenty grand right now, and that meant I was eighty short.I called Kyle first, who promptly transferred fifty grand to me.Thirty short.I swiped through my contacts, but there weren't that many.Aside from the ones I hadn't reached out to for a while and the ones I only had a passing acquaintance with, there were only two choices… My father, and Ivy.Two of the people I wanted the least to have anything to do with.I planned on the wall, looking up as I weighed my options. If I called my father, he'd just snap at me and not give me a thing.Ivy was even worse—we were just getting a divorce, and then not? She'd definitely mock me, and divorce would become even harder then.I chose my father without hesitation, and it took a while for him to answer."What?" Finally, I was getting divorced. It was a release, after I had been bound to this toxic marriage for so many years, in my past life and this one.Still, just as I was going to call Ivy and ask why she wasn't here yet, my phone rang, "Yes?""Mr. Isaac York?" A voice asked urgently. "I'm sorry, but your uncle's condition suddenly worsened and he's in surgery as we speak. Please come to the hospital right away."My heart clenched, and I felt like the world was spinning around me. "Okay… Okay!"I hurried to the hospital in panic, my mind a mess along the way, texting Kyle as I did. When I arrived, the red light above the doors was still lit, keeping me away from my uncle.Kyle arrived soon as well, clapping me on the shoulder. "It's going to be alright. Don't let bad thoughts consume you—heart attacks aren't that terrible, and modern medicine is a marvel."I fought back my tears. Still, I barely made two steps when I stopped. After all, Ivy just warned me to stay away from Bryan. And with his girlfriend taking care of him, my presence was inconsequential anyway, so I decided to drop it.Still, I made sure to text Jean, as well as wiring some money as an apology to Bryan before heading to Uncle Benji's ward.I strode in to find him sitting up, staring listlessly at the ceiling, his thoughts unfathomable. With the loose patient garb and his stubble, he looked like your typical middle-aged homeless man "Uncle Benji," I called out to him.Light seemed to return to his eyes, just then, and he straightened himself, seemingly having waited for me for a while."You're back," there was some joy in his voice, even anticipation."I have some food here, so why don't you stay for lunch, have a bite?"He pointed at a table nearby, and my eyes widened as I turned—it was filled with plates of various luxurious seafood, and my favorites at that!"C-Can I really have

I might have spilled hot water on Bryan's hand, but Ivy shoved me to the floor before I could do anything about it.No one was going to be pleased with a sprained wrist, or should I be satisfied?Nonetheless, Ivy grabbed me by the collar, snapping even as I choked, "You're still pretending?! I thought you were just greedy and nothing else, but I guess you enjoy having pretty faces flocking around you, taking your side, right?!"I didn't get it, until I realized that she was accusing me of cheating.Laughing despite myself, I shrugged, "You're saying that I'm not just a bum, but a womanizer too?"My laugh left Ivy glowering, and she clenched so hard her fingers turned white. "What, are you saying that you're not? She showed up yesterday, and now today. When did you hook up with her? Is that why you're divorcing me?""Or maybe you have an entire ocean to yourself? 'Plenty of fish in the sea', and she's just one of them?"Yesterday?I narrowed my eyes as I realized something impor

Nonetheless, as long as I lived happily and ate regular meals, there shouldn't be much of a problem. The report was soon out, and I returned to the ward to show it to Bryan.Jean brought me a cup of water, probably because she saw my lips were parched. I was reading the medical report too, and didn't expect her to bring me a cup of hot water. I flinched in reflex, splashing hot water all over Bryan's hand.He flinched in turn, dropping the medical report audibly."I-I'm sorry! It's an accident!" My heart skipped a beat, and promptly grabbed his wrist, intending to get some cold water over his hand. However, even before I reached his hand, I felt a pain on my shoulder as I was shoved forcefully away.Caught off guard, I fell heavily on the floor, gasping in pain as I sprained my right hand, which I held out to stop myself from falling face flat.I then looked up to see that Ivy had grabbed Bryan's hand and rushed to the restroom.I was stunned, but soon heard the splashing in

I quickly remembered that she was the girl who almost crashed into me yesterday. "Jean Morris?"She beamed, seemingly not expecting that I would remember her name. "I'm surprised you remembered… Anyway, I brought you here since I happened to see you pass out."I recalled, earnestly grateful to her even as I recalled the moment I passed out. "Thank you so much! How much did they charge you?"Jean didn't turn me down, but I was also dead sure the sum she had asked for was way lower than it should have been. As such, I made sure to get the check and wired an extra hundred as thanks. She was clearly too embarrassed to accept the money when she saw the transfer records, so I made sure to reason with her so she would happily take the money.Ever the nice girl, she then told me, "I think you have a condition.
