However, as soon as Alba opened his eyes, he clearly saw from where he lay that Saul was raising a syringe and thrusting it down at Megan.

As his senses returned to him and he slowly realized what his eldest brother was doing, his eyes widened as he bellowed, "Stop!!!"

Scrambling to his feet, he lunged wildly at Saul, but the syringe in Saul's hand was already empty.

As Alba seized Saul by the collar, he turned in disbelief toward Megan—the brocade mites were still covering her body, but she was no longer struggling or crying in pain.
