Mira came to school quite early again. She'd make sure that Arlan, that diligent boy had arrived in the college earlier to accompany her. Instead of being scared after almost falling off the stairs, Mira was dying to meet the culprit instead. The person only dared to make a sneak attack.
If it was a man, she'd chop off what had made him a man. And if that was a woman, she'd make sure that the person would never look like one anymore.
That just how angry she was.
Mira's cheek was flushed red in fury as she remembered her condition again. She'd not be able to play basketball for a while. Her body recovery was indeed better than most humans, yet it was nothing compared to the real werewolves.
As she walked through the hallway, Mira limped slightly. No matter how she tried to walk like a normal, she couldn't. It made her slightly missed her personal car-- Azarias.
"What happened to your feet?" The voice laced with concern entered Mira's ears. She looked up, expecting it to be Arlan. However, in an instant, her face turned into a scowl.
It turned out to be that prick, Jason. Why is this person approaching her now?
She ignored him and kept on walking.
For a split second, Mira caught the sight of his stunned face when she didn't respond to him and turned her head away. What an annoyingly confusing guy.
"Where's that punk?" Mira muttered under her breath.
He isn't trying to prank her, is he? Mira thought. However, it seemed less likely. Despite having that unreliable look, Arlan was actually one of the strongest werewolves out there. He just disliked being in trouble and avoid them as much as possible, though sometimes it was impossible. That guy's caring and protective nature could be felt by those he considered his friends.
The more Mira walked, the more she frowned. There were other footsteps behind her. A frown and irritation were written all over her face. She stopped, intending to give way to Jason so that he could pass first.
Jason also stopped, looking at her with confusion, until a moment later a look of realization struck him.
"Why are you stopping now?" Mira snapped. "Look, the path is wide open."
Come to think of it, Mira couldn't help but ponder about yesterday's matter. That hooded person had come for her intending to kill, though for some reason stopped halfway.
Is it one of her enemies? With her unyielding temper, she had offended quite a lot of people after all.
His gaze at her had turned colder somehow. "Your foot is hurt."
Mira frowned at him. "Yes, and then?"
"Let me accompany you to your class?" He said with a tone of annoyance.
Mira frowned. This guy was clearly annoyed, but why did he bother voluntarily offer help like this?
"No need." Mira shook her head. She tried to walk faster so that she could get away from Jason sooner.
Having an injured foot was indeed such an inconvenience. Inwardly, Mira cursed that person who had made her like this once again.
However, a sudden flash of notion appeared in her head. Could that person possibly be...
"Don't you act like this to gain my attention?" Jason's rough voice sounded in Mira's ears. Mira was stunned momentarily that her thoughts were cut off, her mind blank.
When she recovered her senses, the words uttered by Jason slowly sink in. Mira's eyes widened in disbelief. What the hell is wrong with this self-important, delusional guy?
Reminded that he almost turned into her supposed mate, Mira was horrified. She thanked the heavens that it didn't happen.
Mira's eyelid twitched, her mouth forming a sneer. "What a deluded person. A frog in well that has never seen the world outside."
Mira knew this type of guy a lot. Such a guy in denial and delusion, words alone won't be enough to slap him back to reality. She better just avoid him so that she can keep her sanity intact.
Mira could hear other footsteps approaching them followed by the voice of a man. The way he spoke and his mannerisms sounded like he was speaking to a superior. "Alpha Jason."
Another person stood beside him with slightly lackadaisical behavior.
Mira didn't even hide the displeasure written all over her face.
"Who is this?" The shorter man muttered as he eyed Mira rudely. "Boss, this one isn't your new girl, right? She seemed ... unique."
The man stroked his chin. His eyes scanned Mira's tomboyish look from head to toe.
Mira's expression turned dark.
"Dave, mind your manner." The other man rebuked him.
"I am merely asking." He shrugged.
Mira narrowed her eyes, memorizing the face of the one who had insulted her. She put on a calm mask, though she was clenching her fists, itching to teach him a lesson.
She admitted that she was a petty person. She'd surely get back at him.
If she had known that she's stumbled upon these hateful existences, she'd rather go to the campus together with Azarias. Azarias's door was locked this morning. She thought he was still sleeping. Due to her impatience, she chose to go alone.
"Don't speak nonsense." Jason frowned in discontent at the man's words.
The aura emanating from them was almost similar in power, causing Mira to frown. Which one is the second and third in power?
"Eh, isn't this the girl who dared to retaliate against Violetta? You are quite daring." The man chuckled. "Let me introduce myself, I am the third in command from Langton territory, Dave Williams."
Mira looked up to meet his eyes. She was startled, her pupil constricted. A moment later, she recovered her calmness.
She looked another way and walked away, completely ignoring them. She faintly felt some unpleasant aura from behind her, indicating that the person was annoyed, almost in a rage.
Mira had no good feeling to those people and she was not obliged to show them kindness. She would act however she wanted. Just like how those rumors about her being a bully had spread around since the Violetta incident. She bullied a bully, so she should be the bigger bully, right?
Rumors could dampen one's spirit, but it was different for Mira. She didn't care. She wasn't going to stay in this place for a long time anyway.
Mira and Azarias moved here three years ago. It was initially only her who was going, but Azarias was being persistent about it. Since her grandparents were also worried, they couldn't even wait to shove Azarias in her direction.
She had come from another territory, the bigger place where werewolves were much more scarce. She lived in a city, so it was to be expected. Werewolves were common and co-exist with humans here, yet the news of their existence wasn't as widely spread.
"Mir, what happened to your feet?" Arlan came with Josh, who couldn't even bear to part with his food when Arlan dragged him here.
Mira told them the truth. It would do her no good to keep the information for herself anyway.
"You can't sense the perpetrator?" Arlan frowned, falling into deep thought.
"Could it be the feral?" Josh asked worriedly. "It's good that you survived."
"The feral?" Mira put on a pondering expression. There weren't many that know about the existence of ferals here. After all, they had rarely appeared in the last hundred years. Thus, the ferals were forgotten.
Ferals were some kind of werewolves who had committed the heinous crime, resulting in the Moon Goddess's punishment. Losing the protection drove their wolf counterpart insane.
"It's possible." Arlan nodded, looking at Mira's feet with concern.
"Don't look at me like that. It's not that bad." Mira grumbled. They were acting the same as Azarias sometimes.
"It's been ages since feral appeared." A voice suddenly chimed in. "It's hard to be sure."
Mira's expression faltered upon seeing Erwin. She had been too lost in thought that she hadn't noticed his presence.
Erwin's gaze trained to her foot. "It seems that the bruise had gotten so much better. If you don't move around too much, three days would be enough for a full recovery."
Mira raised her eyebrow. Arlan and Josh looked at Erwin in alarm. Josh walked forward, his hand almost grabbing Erwin's collar if not for Arlan holding him back. "Who are you?"
Arlan and Josh were the only ones who knew about Mira's inhuman speed of recovery besides Azarias in this place. The four of them had spent some years together before Arlan and Josh moved earlier to this kind of environment fitting for werewolves; the vast forest.
Mira frowned. The more she looked at this guy, the more irritated she became. She failed to guess his true intention, soured her mood further.
Let's provoke him a bit, she thought.
"Don't fight." Mira walked to Josh and slapped his shoulder. "He was the one helping me yesterday. He accidentally found out about my condition."
Josh looked suspiciously at that small frame. His eyes darted back and forth between Arlan and Erwin. Irritated, Arlan pulled his ear, making Josh wince. This brat was comparing their figures.
"Helping you? With those arms don't look like they are capable of lifting a twig?"
Mira sighed, feeling a headache coming. What a blockhead. Just how did she become friends with him in the past?
It was some kind of tradition among werewolves that their way of solving things always use fists. Whoever got the harder fist won. Fight to death was also allowed.
"Yes. Now, let's go." Mira said, shoving the two away. Arlan got the hint and dragged Josh away, who was giving Erwin a doubtful look. Mira didn't want to see Josh recklessly challenging Erwin.
Erwin raised his eyebrow. He could also faintly feel a murderous and hostile aura from far away directed at him. When he looked up, he was greeted by the sight of a boy in glasses frowning at him. His pupils contracted at that.
At the same time, Mira passed by Erwin. She whispered in his ear. "You are such a two-faced guy."
She gave him a sweet smile and walked away toward Azarias.
Mira had a class together with Azarias. Josh and Arlan's class was also in the same direction as them. So, the four walked together. Or to be precise, only the three of them walked.Mira had gotten on Azarias' back, giggling happily. "Now, turn left. Hiyaa."Azarias's eye twitched, but he was trying to hold back a smile. "I am not a horse.""Hmm, in my opinion, you are one." Mira retorted back.Josh looked enviously at them. He turned to Arlan, who knew that this boy probably had something weird again in mind."What?" Arlan almost snapped. With an innocent look, he gestured to Mira and Azarias. "Why don't you give me one as well?"Arlan smacked his head, then he pointed to Erwin, who was nonchalantly walking far behind them. However, when his gaze met the four, it turned cold. "Go ask him.""No way," Josh shook his head vigorously.Mira looked behind her. At the same moment, Erwin was looking ahead at her. Their eyes met
Mira was humming as she walked along to the basketball field. Today was the day of practice for their team. She was wearing a red long-sleeved T-shirt combined with grey pants. The hair was hidden within her red hat. She was in a good mood. The foot was finally healed that Azarias didn't forbid her from moving around too much anymore. It was just yesterday that she trashed that spiteful Dave. Hmm, she wanted to do it again. Mira unwittingly caught the sight of a familiar back and groaned inwardly. It was that Jason again, embracing yet another girl against the wall. A sudden throb of pain in her heart knocked her awake. Mira winced. A thousand curses rang into her head directed to Jason at the moment. The mate bond was such a hassle that it was even affecting her after the rejection. What the hell is this? Mira was perplexed and undoubtedly infuriated. After mates rejected each other, weren't they supposed to act like strangers? Mira def
Mira wiped the sweat on her face as she took a seat on the bench. She leaned against Azarias, making herself comfortable. She was still in disbelief that she spent the whole practice time in a daze, making the guys protest that she almost ruined their faces. She almost hit their faces repeatedly. "Want some water?" Azarias smiled in amusement as he handed a bottle of water. Mira blinked, she looked at the bottle of water and snatched it, gulping it down in haste. She hadn't realized how dry her throat was. "Why did you do it?" She but her lips, her eye twitched slightly. Erwin, who was sitting in front of her had a temporary look of confusion. However, that sort of innocent look wouldn't easily fool Mira. She harrumphed coldly. "I was just lucky, I guess." Erwin scratched the back of his head and shrugged. "Lucky..." Mira muttered in a mocking tone. She turned to Arlan, who was lying lifelessly on the ground like a starfish. Jo
"You are alone?"A voice disturbed Mira's focus. Her eyes widened slightly, and she almost choked on her food when she saw who it was.Jason sat beside her in the cafeteria, bringing that arrogant look with him. The beta, Jaron was following him. He also sat across Mira when he noticed that his superior had chosen a table. Most of the tables were occupied anyway."Those seats are for my friends," Mira's threw him an annoyed look."I don't see your friends," He said without too much care.Mira looked up to his beta, who seemed to be the sanest one among the hateful trio. Yet, she found him throwing a questioning look back at her. He seemed like an obedient subordinate who was willing to do anything his superiors ordered him to.That's it, she gave up. She pitied those who had to take residence in the Langton territory. Their future seemed bleak somehow. At the same time, Erwin passed by their table with a cold look on his face. Mira's
Mira opened the door of Arlan's house with a bang, successively almost shattering it. She didn't bother to be polite as she directly went to his bedroom, followed by Azarias who was the calmer one.He sighed, fixing Arlan's door, then joined Mira. There he was, Arlan wrapped in a white cloth. The wound was all over his body that some blood had managed to seep through his bandage.Mira pulled Josh's collar. "How did this happen?"A moment later, she sighed and let go of Josh when Azarias rubbed her shoulder, telling her to calm down. Realizing that she was being too emotional, Mira could only restrain herself. After all, no matter how she had behaved like a boy all this time, she was still a girl."Arlan was alone when he practiced until the late afternoon. Someone attacked him with a knife out of nowhere. When another student found him, he was already bleeding profusely." Josh explained as he took a seat beside the bed.Arlan was currently u
"What are you doing here?" Mira was shocked but calmed down after she got a look at who it was.Azarias seemed guilty that he realized she might have fallen asleep. "I am sorry, I thought that you would have trouble falling asleep.""Idiot." Mira scowled, glaring at him.Mira threw him a dirty look. Nonetheless, she was glad that she did. Had she forced herself to fall asleep, she would be plagued by that horrible nightmare again. When she thought of that, she changed her words."Thanks for waking me up," Mira said, sighing. She thought of something. "Do you also have trouble sleeping?""Yes. My insomnia is acting up again." Azarias nodded, his lips curved up at her. "Want to go on the rooftop?""Hmm, that's a good idea." Mira agreed. She took Azarias's hoodie and put it on. The bigger size made her feel more comfy, even though she had to roll up the sleeves to get her hands out. When she looked at the door, her eyes twitched. "What's
It was until two weeks later that Arlan had gone back to the college. He had a wry smile on his face as he noticed the people around him secretly monitoring him. He knew that he dared to run into the basketball field alone again, they would drag him back.In truth, he had also learned his lesson. The guys had asked him who the perpetrator was. However, his head was knocked first that his sight blurred. Therefore, he couldn't say anything that could contribute as a clue. The person was cunning and crafty. The other three had the thought of plotting for murder. Arlan naturally was eager to join in."Josh, if he dared to run alone again, let's just tie him to the tree in front of your house again." Mira reminded Josh, slapping his arm in encouragement.Azarias smiled, nodding in agreement at Mira's words. "I will help you tie him so tightly high.""Will do," Josh smirked.Arlan was speechless, but he said nothing to refute. In the end, h
In front of her, standing tall the back of someone with beautiful silky red hair. The ball got crushed under the force of her hand that the shape was almost unrecognizable. If not for Mira recognizing its deep orange color, she wouldn't have known what it was. "Bullying a little human girl, how ignoble of you, Langton mutt." Her voice struck clear, causing the heads to turn in Dave's direction. Mira had just realized how weak her body was after two weeks of insomnia. She hadn't gotten a wink of sleep in days due to a nightmare. Even if she did, it only made her feel worse. Azarias came to Mira's side, causing her to be startled of how was he was it was as if he had teleported. "You and Arlan need to get some rest." Azarias's words were firm. Mira's gaze dropped to the ground, and she remained silent. She could feel that he was frowning due to something. A moment later, she found her body being lifted. Mira was surprised that sh
The young girl gazed outside the window in a daze. The rain hadn't ended. It had been going on since a few hours ago, making her slightly anxious. A frown marred her beautiful face. The baby fat still hadn't gone, further making her look especially cute. The girl couldn't help from tapping her feet on the ground. "You little brat, what did you just do yesterday?" A voice filled with anger strolled in, causing the girl to nearly jumping from her seat. In a panic, she cursed and tried to hide under the table. The girl slipped in quickly and covered her mouth with a hand. She closed her eyes and held her breath. It was as if the one looking for her could detect her just from the smell of her breath.
Mira felt like her heart stopped for a moment, her mind and body froze as she stared ahead. The sudden explosion was like the cold water pouring down her head, a slap to reality. The dust, branches, soil, and pebbles flying randomly caused it to be hard to see what happened. Mira frantically looked around, searching for Arlan's figure amidst the chaos. Dave's thunderous roar made her heart sink. It was full of fury, and Mira knew well who was the cause of it. He had the hold of Arlan's life in his grasp. The dust hadn't settled, but Mira suddenly had an inkling from the faint connection of the Goddess's blessing. Without caring about the curse inflicting her body, Mira trudged to the source. "Let's go together." Azarias's voice sounded in her ear, and the next moment, the painful feeling from the aftershocks of the explosion was warded off. She numbly stayed in Azarias's embrace until less than a minute later, they arrived at the scene. The wa
The pained expression of the person inside was akin to a needle piercing Mira's heart. After all, he wasn't just anyone. Mira had regarded Arlan as her brother. If Azarias wasn't present, Arlan would be the next person to shield her from rain and storm.Mira's heart trembled slightly. She tried to stand up, looking at the figure in the coffin.Dave was using space magic to conceal Arlan's existence all this time. He brought him out when he realized that things had gone south. Now, the coffin was hovering vertically beside Dave, making sure that Mira could see Arlan's expression clearly. He did it on purpose."Let go of him." Her voice turned hoarse as she faced Dave, who only rolled his eyes."Do you think I am that stupid? Once I let go of him, I will be dead. That demon won't let go of me." Dave pointed at Azarias. "Demons are known as bloodthirsty creatures. Once they set their target, they will follow it until the very end."Dave had pre
Mira managed to stop herself before her body slammed into the wall. She took a deep breath and calmed her erratic heart. It was dangerous just now. Luckily, the force seemed to be less than one she had faced before. It was a sign that the warlock's power was weakening. Mira's body bent down slightly from the inertia. She looked up, and her pupils constricted. After a moment, she was back to being expressionless."Mirabella Forest, you are such a fool." The voice sounded rough, like dry branches brushed against each other.Mira said nothing, only coldly observing the person in front of her."It's such a pity that you are not dead." Red lines began to appear on Dave's face. He looked horrifying. Half of his face cracked, revealing a rotten wound. The skin on his body was patched in grey, dry color. Those were the effect of those black crystals Mira had thrown on him."You are the one asking that girl to buy the black crystals from me." Mira re
"Where's Arlan?" Mira was surprised when she saw that Josh was alone. It was currently lunchtime, and they were in the cafeteria. She hadn't seen Arlan since this morning."He probably sleeps somewhere." Josh yawned, clearly had just woken up. He must've ditched his math class again.Mira frowned. "Arlan isn't you.""Maybe something urgent came up," Azarias suggested. His hand reached out to put the strand of Mira's hair behind her ear."Hmm, that's reasonable," Mira mumbled. She stared at Erwin briefly, then looked away with a thoughtful look. She glanced at Azarias and smiled innocently when she got caught staring at him.It had been around two weeks since she went back to college. She had gotten better, thanks to the care of everyone around her.It made her realize that she had people who cared about her. She was no longer alone. However, thinking about this made her had a flashback to the conversation with Azarias two weeks ago.
Mira's eyes fluttered open. However, she was instantly looking at Azarias, who was also looking at her. She raised her eyebrow and smiled.Azarias did the same. He smiled and ruffled her hair lovingly, reaching out further to embrace her. They didn't even care about the eyes looking at them as if expecting a good drama.Mira changed her position. She now had her back leaning against Azarias's sturdy chest. She went back closing her eyes, ignoring Jason as if he didn't even exist. From the corner of Azarias's mouth, a subtle smirk formed. He glanced at Jason with a provoking gaze.Arlan and Josh, who were in the middle of playing basketball, nearly run into each other. They stopped what they were doing and walked to their friends.Seraphine was among the ones sitting on the stool, watching the basketball players on the field. Her head turned at the sound of the commotion. She shook her head when she saw that it was Jason causing a ruckus."I
Mira's eyes widened, her mouth parted slightly. She blinked, trying to process Azarias's words. After all, this confession was too inconceivable. Was she zoning out earlier that she heard wrong? Mira closed her eyes. Then, she opened them again to look at the smiling Azarias. He also seemed a little anxious for some reason."I t-think I was in a d-daze earlier." Mira almost stuttered. She took a deep breath and forced a smile. "What did you say earlier?"Mira had her long hair down. As the white cloth previously wrapping her entire body had been replaced by normal clothes, her skin had begun to heal.It was great that her face was the part where it got the least impact from the blast. After two months, the skin on her face had gotten back how it used to. Azarias couldn't help but reached out to brush her cheek."You want me to repeat that?" Azarias said softly. "Alright, I will say it more clearly.""Bella, you are my mate."Damn, Mir
"Here, have a drink." Seraphine hastily snatched a drink, using a spoon to scoop little water, and helped Mira to drink it."Open your mouth," Seraphine said softly.Mira obediently opened her mouth slightly, a confused expression apparent in those eyes. However, her eyes remained hazy and unfocused. After a while, she closed her eyes again. Seraphine waited, but her eyes were tightly shut even after a few minutes passed.Azarias who was watching from the side hurriedly went to her side. He carefully reached out for her hand. Only then he heaved a sigh of relief when he noticed that her condition remained stable. He mumbled softly. "She is unable to maintain consciousness for too long."A frown marred Azarias's face after a while. A sigh escaped his mouth.Seraphine also gazed at Mira with a complicated look. She stared at her palms, conflicted.Erwin was watching from the side. It was unknown what he was thinking. When Seraphine turn
"You..." The unfinished words hung around in the air. Seraphine gazed at the person in front of her in shock, but she was even more worried about someone."No wonder that she..." Seraphine looked back at Azarias, who seemed like he would erupt in madness anytime. However, those emotions in his red eyes would be gone, replaced with calm grief as soon as they landed on the figure on the bed, who had her entire body wrapped in white cloth.Seraphine sighed. "You should try to control yourself." She returned her attention to the girl on the bed. "She had such a reckless side. At first, I was wondering why. You should have helped her control her violent temper first."Azarias stayed silent. He didn't give any response to her words, whether he had heard her or not, it was unknown."Go to sleep." As soon as those words were uttered by Seraphine, and before Azarias could do anything, he felt something struck him. He tried to struggle, but in the end, he lost cons
