Chapter 4

Author: Jason Chord
"Dominic Zeller?" Gideon repeated. Frowning, he remarked, "The name sounds familiar to me."

"He's a good friend of Hercule's, sir! Hercule mentioned that to you before."

"I remember now."

When Gideon first captured Hercule and brought him back to Oasis Vale, Hercule claimed that Dominic would be coming to save him.

Dominic had indeed turned up, but it wasn't Gideon he faced. Paul, Ajax, and a few others had given him a thorough thrashing, and he fled with his tail between his legs.

Smiling, Leopold explained, "Somehow, Dominic heard that you'll be coming to Goldspire, so he dared not stick around to act like a big shot here. He came to me and offered Beaker Island to be your residence."

Gideon chuckled. "He's quick-witted and amenable, I see. Did he mention anything about wanting to save Hercule from Oasis Vale?"

"He said he wouldn't dare to and that it would be good for Hercule to undergo some training at Oasis Vale," Leopold replied. "In fact, he said that if given the chance, he'd like to have some fun at Oasis Vale, too."

"Cracking jokes, is he?" Gideon commented, pursing his lips. He figured he'd fulfill Dominic's wish when the opportunity came along.

They walked into the villa and were greeted by the lavish decor that made it look more like a breathtaking palace.

Leopold brought out a list of names and said, "As we weren't sure about your preferences, sir, no arrangements have been made for your team of maids and household staff yet. Here's a list of potential candidates for you to choose from."

Shaking his head, Gideon said, "It's fine. I like my peace and quiet, and I can take care of myself. I don't need any maids. If there's nothing else, you can go now."

"Alright, sir. If you need anything, you can get in touch with me at any time. I wield a certain level of control here in Goldspire, and I can definitely help you with whatever tasks you may have for me."

"Got it."

Once Leopold left, Gideon walked around the entire place. Once he confirmed no one was hiding inside the house, he went to the bathroom. He drew himself a bath and let out a relaxed sigh as he soaked in the water.

Meanwhile, a Jeep made its way onto Beaker Island.

"Ms. Mosley, Beaker Island is a restricted area. Goldspire's local government issued an official directive forbidding people from approaching it."

"I know that," Lavinia replied with a nod before walking up to the villa. "However, the government directive only applies to ordinary civilians. It's not the same for me. I'm here on official business."

"What is it?"

"Do you know who lives on Beaker Island?"

Benny and Derek shook their heads.

With her eyes flashing brightly, and in an awed tone, she declared, "Dominic Zeller, the King of Battle, lives here!"

"What?"

They were thunderstruck.

"The one who single-handedly shot down six of the enemy's war heroes during the fight at the border of the northern wilderness?"

"The one who headed solo into enemy territory beyond the eastern plains and fought through thousands of soldiers to behead the enemy's military command?"

"The one who once vanquished three of the enemy's warships at West Sea?"

Benny and Derek rattled out a list of Dominic's battle achievements, each one more shocking than the other.

Even Lavinia was getting emotional.

"That's right! That's him," she affirmed solemnly. "Even before I became a war hero, he had already made a name for himself. You could even say he's my role model.

"Although he's not part of the military, he has spent much time patrolling our borders. He has contributed greatly to the safety of our nation.

"However, two years ago, Mr. Zeller vanished without a trace. No one knows why! A month ago, I finally got in touch with a senior member of Cipher. I had hoped Cipher could provide leads about his whereabouts, and I finally got one. Mr. Zeller has been living in seclusion here on Beaker Island!"

Lavinia was bursting with anticipation at the thought of meeting her role model.

"Is he really here, Ms. Mosley?" Benny asked.

"There are tire tracks in front of the villa, and they look new. Plus, there are footprints on the steps as well. These all prove that someone stays here, and I'm certain it's Mr. Zeller.

"It won't be easy for me to lead the military campaign against Tylland, but if I can get Mr. Zeller's help, I am certain we can defeat Tylland and bring them to their knees! They won't dare to cross trouble at our border for at least another 50 years!"

After taking a deep breath, Lavinia rang the doorbell. Having failed to receive a response the first time, she tried it again—and again.

Once she'd rang the doorbell four times, she stopped and bit her lip. Then, she shouted, "Mr. Zeller, I know you're in there! I know you're refusing to open the door on purpose! My name is Lavinia Mosley, and I'm a war hero who's currently serving in the military!

"I've come here specifically to extend an invitation to you to join me in launching a military campaign against Tylland.

"Perhaps you have heard about Tylland's deplorable deeds. They have constantly caused trouble along our border, killing and pillaging civilians wherever they go.

"You've once reigned supreme at the border, and you are a hero who fought for this nation. Are you truly willing to stand by and watch as Tylland harms our people and harasses our border?

"I don't know what happened that made you retreat into isolation. Nevertheless, I sincerely hope you will come forth and join me in a quest to defeat Tylland and protect Dasovia! I beseech you to accept my offer!"

Once Lavinia finished her speech, she even bowed to the door.

Alas, silence was the only response she got.

Benny and Derek were outraged. Lavinia had already shown such great humility despite her rank, but Dominic didn't show himself. He didn't even bother responding to her. He was being far too arrogant!

"Let's just forget about it, Ms. Mosley. I bet Mr. Zeller is just a coward."

"Watch what you say!" Lavinia admonished. She took a deep breath and shouted, "I won't give up, Mr. Zeller! I'm going to stay right here in Goldspire. I'll keep coming back until you agree to join me!"

In the end, Lavinia left with a disappointed heart. She had no clue that the person residing in the villa now wasn't Dominic but Gideon—the farmer she looked down on.

Meanwhile, Gideon had dozed off while lying in the bathtub without hearing a single word Lavinia said.

One hour later, he woke up and got changed. Deciding it was time to visit the Seymours, he went to the garage and picked out a BMW before setting off.

Things were fairly heated up at the Seymour residence.

Marion Lane wagged her finger at Arnold Seymour and screamed, "What kind of father are you, Arnold? How can you let your daughter marry a farmer? Are you out of your mind?"

"I refuse to marry him, Dad!" Elara declared, her eyes reddened and her expression filled with anger. How could she have a mere farmer for a husband? If word got out about this, how was she ever to hold her head up high in public?

However, Arnold replied in all seriousness, "Before Dad passed away three years ago, he was adamant that this marriage must happen, and I promised to see to it. If I break my promise, he won't be able to rest in peace.

"Furthermore, I heard that Gideon is a nice young man. He's handsome, and he was once the heir of the Snow family. Ella, didn't you have a crush on him? Isn't it a good thing that you get to marry him now? Why are you kicking up such a fuss?"

Elara shot back, "Things are not the same anymore, Dad! Gideon was once one of the most elite young men in Goldspire, but now, he's just a useless farmer. Even the Snow family has fallen from grace. He's not good enough for me!"

"How is he not good enough for you?" Arnold fumed. "Your grandfather was a farmer, too! He built the family business from the ground up, and that is how our family's wealth came to be! Do you think you're still Gideon Snow, one of the Four Elites of Goldspire? I'll show you the price you'll have to pay for hitting me and humiliating us Grosses!"Eric wanted nothing more than to rip Gideon to pieces, and he swore to take Gideon down."I'll be waiting," Gideon retorted condescendingly. "You'd better not disappoint me. Also, pass your family a message for me. Tell them to be prepared for when I buy out Gross Group."Eric was flabbergasted, but after a moment, he mocked, "You must've gone mad, Gideon. To think you'd say such ridiculous things. You want to buy out our company? With what? Just wait, all of you! It's over for the Snow family!"And with that, he stormed out of the Snow residence.Only then did Cormac bellow, "Look at what you did, Gideon! The Grosses will surely join fo

After leaving Gideon at the city hall half an hour ago, Elara had been in such a foul mood that she went to a bar to drown her sorrows in alcohol. By sheer coincidence, she bumped into Matthew Carter. He was the handsome and talented son of the Carters of Goldspire, and they had been classmates at college, too. Over time, they became great friends who confided everything in each other. In fact, she considered him her bosom friend despite him being a guy."Why are you upset, Ella? Tell me what happened," Matthew asked in concern as he patted Elara's hand."I don't even want to talk about it. I got married.""What did you say?" Matthew exclaimed in shock. Frowning, he asked, "You're joking, right? Why would you have gotten married out of the blue? This is my first time hearing about this."Elara replied in frustration, "It was my dad who arranged this marriage for me. He made me marry a stinking farmer! We even got our marriage license already."Matthew's expression turned dark.E

"Thanks to you, Matthew, we get to share in this honor, too! I never even dreamed of being able to partake in such precious wine.""I have to take a photo of it and share it on my feed!"While everyone else showered Matthew with flattery, he was utterly confused as well. The Carters were merely a run-of-the-mill wealthy family without much prestige. Meanwhile, the owner of Twilight Bar was a big shot in the criminal underworld. They belonged to two entirely different social classes, so why was he being given such expensive wine?"Hey, Matthew. Is this a sign that the Carters are about to make it big? Why else would the owner of Twilight Bar give you this wine?""Well, about that…"Matthew didn't know what to say, but after a brief moment, he came up with an idea. Straightening up, he said with a smile, "Since this has happened, I won't try to hide it any longer. A few days ago, I had the honor of receiving the recognition of the chairperson of Avila Group. "She said she was int

Silence fell as the room filled with an awkward tension.Sporting an unpleasant expression, Matthew clutched the saucer without knowing whether to put it away or toss it in the trash."What kind of heinous trick did you pull to make the pattern disappear, Gideon?" Elara questioned in fury.Scoffing, Gideon replied, "The pattern was made with a special kind of ink that is hard to remove, but it's possible to do so with the help of heat and alcohol. It's that simple."However, Elara didn't let up. "How did you know it could disappear with the combination of heat and alcohol? I get the feeling that you wanted to ruin the saucer on purpose! Apologize to Matthew at once, or else, you'll have to pay for his loss!"Gideon's expression turned grim. Why was Elara being so unreasonable and saying such ridiculous things? Was it simply because Matthew was her bosom friend?Alas, those words sounded disgusting to his ears. He was repulsed by them.At that very moment, Matthew chimed in with

Eric was scared stiff. How did Gideon do it? How did he take down over a dozen men in the blink of an eye? While Eric stood there in a daze, Gideon slapped him so hard that he flew backward and lost a few teeth in the process. Both sides of his face were now swollen."You didn't learn your lesson back at the Snow residence, huh? The nerve of you to try and come after me. Do you think I'm a good-tempered man?" Gideon questioned, his expression frosty.Clenching his jaw, Eric roared, "Just you wait, Gideon! I'll cripple you today if it's the last thing I do!"As soon as he finished speaking, he attempted to run off. Amused, Gideon picked Eric up like a little rat and threw him against the floor. Instantly, his nose broke, making him howl in agony.Just then, there was a commotion in the hallway, and a group of men in black appeared. Gunnar Scarrow, the burly man in the lead, had a menacing scowl on his scarred face."I received a report from our customers that someone's causing

"What did you say?"Arnold's face turned pale as he roared, "Gideon was crippled by Eric? How did this happen? Did you instigate it?"Feeling aggrieved, Elara protested, "Dad, it has nothing to do with me! Gideon was too arrogant. He hit Eric, so Eric brought a bunch of his men to the bar. I don't know what happened after that, but I'm sure Gideon didn't come out unscathed. He was probably crippled.""Why didn't you take Gideon with you when you ran? He's your husband! How could you leave him there to be beaten up and turned into a cripple? How could I have such a cold-blooded daughter?""Dad, I don't love Gideon, and he's not good enough for me. Stop calling him my husband. Now that he's crippled, I won't spend my life with a cripple. "What did you say? You want to be my wife?" Gideon was a bit stunned, but immediately, his face clouded over.He felt like Simon had tricked him. That old man wanted to make him the Avila family's son-in-law. Was he asking to be taught a lesson?Meanwhile, Rachel was completely serious. She thought to herself that if marrying Gideon would solve the Avila family's crisis, then she was willing to make the sacrifice.Besides, she didn't think Gideon was as ordinary as he appeared. She knew how shrewd Simon was. If Simon valued Gideon enough to want her to marry him, it meant Gideon had some hidden power."Have you thought it over, Gideon? As long as you're fine with it, we can get our marriage certificate right now. I consider myself decent enough to be worthy of you," Rachel said earnestly.Amused, Gideon shook his head. "You're indeed beautiful and very capable, but unfortunately, I'm already married.""You're married?"Rachel was surprised. Did Simon know Gideon was married? And

"Chase, you're so full of yourself!" Pope of Light sneered. "You think you alone can take on both me and Yohan? That level of arrogance is just plain stupid."He chuckled with contempt. "Once Yohan breaches the Spirale Clan's fortress and gets his hands on Genetic Bond, the two of us will join forces. Then maybe—just maybe—we can put you down for good."What do you think of that?"Down on the ground, the battlefield erupted into chaos.Samson, watching Yohan's sudden arrival, realized how serious things had gotten. It was a brutal, no-holds-barred bloodbath.Samson was locked in a ferocious duel with Lucifer. The ten legion commanders were going head-to-head—every one of them. Samson growled, "Just keep an eye on them. Don't interfere with anything else."Waves of beastly roars rippled through the air.Lucifer hadn't just forced the allied forces to retreat. He'd also driven off all the lurking powerhouses watching from the shadows. That included the overbeast and various native tribes from Asgard Plains. It didn't take long. Within a thousand-mile radius, the battlefield had cleared. Only 20 legions remained.Of course, a few bold and overconfident strongholds still stayed hidden in the shadows, watching—like Umbra. She hadn't followed Kingsley's retreat."What the hell is Lucifer doing?" Ewan muttered atop the city wall, baffled.Something felt off—very off. There was a bad feeling gnawing at his gut, but he couldn't tell where it was coming from."Send the order to initiate top-level combat protocol.""Yes, Mr. Moore!"Ewan looked to the sky, worry etched into his face. The battle between Chase and Pope of Light probably wouldn't end in a decisi

"All hail the King!"Almost like they were going head-to-head in secret, the ten legions of the Dragon's Aegis dropped to one knee and shouted with everything they had, voices thundering across the land.Their chant was even louder, deeper, and more powerful than the one from The Light Council's legions—so powerful that it shook the sky and the earth, drilling straight into the soul.Spectators were stunned. Two living legends—Pope of Light and the King of Dasovia—standing at the absolute peak of the world, had shown up in the same place. It was insane.Could it be that they were really about to go to war tonight? If so, it was going to tear the whole damn place apart. A clash between two ninth-tier peak powerhouses was no joke. Once someone hit that tier, they were in a whole different league. Unless one reached that same realm, they'd never understand how terrifying their strength truly was.The difference between the eighth and ninth tier was just a single tier. In reality,

Following the flow of Blue River, Gideon finally made his way out of the city. He climbed ashore at a hidden spot, returning to the same location from over two weeks ago. But Umbra and Orabella were nowhere to be found. With no better option, he set off to look for Kingsley. Along the way, Gideon caught sight of something that stopped him in his tracks—the Dragon's Aegis legions squaring off against The Light Council legions. "Damn! That's overwhelming." Gideon was stunned. Ten legions on each side, with two million soldiers in total. They were all elites—every single one a martial artist of high caliber. Each legion moved as a single organism, able to strike hard or pull back on a dime. And to Gideon, these 20 legions could crush Kingsley, Rhett, and all eight major royal families—even if they had ten million troops combined. The sight lit something inside him. The world was shifting, and power structures were changing. It was time for him to stop relying on
