I woke up with a start, my heart pounding in my chest so fast. The vividness of my dream clung to me, and my cheeks burned. “What the hell was that?” I whispered to myself, burying my face in my hands.

My phone vibrated beside me where I left it, bringing me out of my reverie. I checked the time and I sprang up immediately. Past 9, I have to be on the campus by 10am. I overslept. Damn..

I ran into the bathroom, and I heard my phone ringing while brushing. I went back inside to check who was calling me. ‘Dad’ I whispered when I remembered where I was but I had to pick up anyway if I didn't want him knocking on my door by evening.

“Hi Dad.” I tried to sound excited.

“Munchkin, are you just waking up? You have to be in school in less than an hour, and I'm pretty sure you're not dressed”. He scolded.

“Dad, I'm not–” I started to defend myself but he interrupted me.

“You are still sounding groggy, I'm pretty sure my call woke you up.” He sighed. “I think we've always overlooked this, and it's now turning to a problem.”

I sighed, and I can hear my mom whispering to him about letting me go, so I can get ready for school.

“Yes Dad. The earlier I get in the bathroom, the earlier I'll get to the campus.”

“Okay.” He sighed. “Go and get ready. Let me know when you get to school, okay?”

“Okay Dad. I love you.” I blew him a kiss then ended the call.

I rushed into the bathroom to get a quick shower, got dressed, and rushed out of the room but I almost stumbled at the sight in the living room.

Mason is standing by the dining table, shirtless with a pair of joggers hanging low on his waist, his hair still wet from the shower, and sipping coffee. The sight of him made my stomach flip in a way it shouldn't, and I can still feel the ghost of his touch from my dream.

‘This is maddening’. I told myself even though I can't stop ogling. Broad shoulders, muscular arms. Heat travels to my cheeks, and my mind goes blank.

‘Get yourself together, Happiness’. I told myself again. I have never had a shirtless man wandering around in the house when I wake up, so I'm not used to this sight.

Mason shifts his attention to me, a small smile touching his lips. “Good morning.”

Now that he's facing me, the sight is more mouthwatering. His well built body, toned abs, and his joggers hung low on his hips giving me a glimpse of what's underneath. That makes me abruptly look down before I embarrass myself further.

“Good morning.” I replied, my gaze on the floor. Slowly, I returned my eyes back to him, and I found him chuckling. My cheeks heat up even more.

“Do you like pancakes?” He asked, smiling.

“Yeah, I do.” I replied, coming back to my senses.

“Are you hungry? I made some for you when you weren't coming outside. I figured you'd be late if you had to make breakfast now.” He gestured to the plates on the dining table.

I moved closer to the table, and I found a set of mouthwatering breakfast – pancakes, slices of bacon, tomatoes, garlic mushrooms, and poached eggs. My stomach rumbled making me blush in embarrassment and Mason chuckled.

“I guess you are.” He smiled softly at me, and I nodded.

“Thank you.” I returned his smile. “But if I don't leave now, I'll be late.” I told him, and his smile dropped. “I'll eat little.” I showed him my pinky finger, and he shrugged.

Mason takes a seat next to me, and I remembered he still has no shirt on. I automatically tear my gaze off him.

“Right.” He clears his throat, and I looked up at him. “I should have been aware. I don't want to make you uncomfortable…” He falters, and I raise my brows. “Does seeing me like this make you uncomfortable?”

‘I’m not complaining, I just want you to do more with your hands’. I thought.

I shaked my head. “No, not at all. This is your house, you can do anything you want.”

“Really?” He scrutinizes me. “Is that really okay?”

I gave him a questioning look.

“That I don't put my shirt on.”

“Yes it is.” I told him.

We continued eating, and I tried not to think of this moment. I stood up after some time of playing around with the eggs on my plate.

“I'm full. I have to go now, bye” I said standing.

“Bye. Do you know how to get to school from here?” He asked me.

“Uhm. Not really, but I can get a cab from here, right?” I turned to face him.

“I'm not sure. But I can drop you off, if you don't mind.” He offered.

“Are you sure?” I asked.

“Of course. I wouldn't ask if I wasn't sure.”

“Okay then. Thank you.”

He got up and packed the plates to the kitchen then went to his room to change.

The car ride was awkward. The hum of the tires of the car, and the rhythmic click of the turn signals were the only sounds in the car. I fiddled with the hem of my shirt, my gaze fixed on the scenery outside the window. My dream replayed in my head, and I cringed. My fingers tapped nervously against my thigh, a steady rhythm betraying my nervousness.

I finally got the courage to look up at him, and I noticed he was gripping the steering wheel tighter than necessary. “Uhm, you said you would be out by 8am last night.” I stated, sparing him a glance.

“Oh, Yes. Work was postponed, and I remembered you would not be able to go to school by yourself. So I waited back.” He said.

“Oh, okay.” I muttered. “Thank you, I really would not have known my way around.”

“You're welcome.” He replied, and I nodded. He opened his mouth to speak but closed it back. Before I could ask him what he wanted to say, the car had stopped.

“Thank you for the ride.” I told him before opening the door, and he nodded.

“Happiness.” He called as I closed the door.

“Yeah?” I answered.

“Can I pick you up when you're done?” He asked, and I went blank. “It's fine if you don't want me to.” He said, taking my silence as No.

“Oh no, no. That's not it.” I said as I came back to my senses. “Thank you, I'll let you know when I'm done then.” I answered with a smile, and waved before entering the block.

I don't have much to do today as today is my first day. I got my daily schedule, and I reviewed it. I also went through the school’s rules and expectations. I headed to class after that.

We had an orientation about the school system, culture and student's expectations. There was also a question and answer session at the end of the orientation. I went to look for the library since I still had time to kill before Mason would come to pick me up.

The library stood at the edge of the school grounds, a grand building with tall arched windows that invited sunlight to dance across its shelves. Its wooden doors, polished to a gentle sheen, bore the weight of countless hands that had pushed them open over the years. Inside, the air was cool and quiet, a sanctuary from the bustle of the world outside.

Rows upon rows of bookshelves stretched as far as the eyes could see, their content organized with meticulous care. At the heart of the library was the librarian’s desk, a semi-circular counter where a warm, bespectacled woman greeted visitors with a smile.

“Hello! Welcome, I'm Claire. Is this your first time here?” She welcomed me.

“Hi, I'm Happy, and this is my first time here.” I replied looking around.

“Oh, I'm happy too. You'll love it here. Do you have any books in particular you are looking for?”

“My name is Happiness, but you can call me Happy. Not yet, but I know I would love it here.” I told her.

“I'm so sorry, I didn't realize. That's a nice name you have there.” She smiled. “I will leave you to look around then.”

“Thank you.” I walked into the library, and I was amazed. I am definitely going to find it hard coming out of this place.

Stopping all of a sudden, I didn't realize someone was coming behind me, and I tripped on the person's leg causing me to lose my balance and fall.

Before I can fall face first on the floor, a strong arms helps me regain my balance, and saves me from falling. When I got on my feet, I looked up to my savior, and I found a guy staring down at me, still holding my arms. He has beautiful blue eyes like mine - even his glasses can't make them any less captivating. His hair is brown with messy bangs. I snapped out of my trance when I realized that all eyes were suddenly on us. The guy looks shocked too, and it takes a few more seconds before he let go of me completely. “Thanks.” I said, and he responded with a small smirk. He nods slightly before walking off, and I find it amazing that people were still staring at me even after resuming my steps. My phone buzzes in my pocket, and I roll my eyes as I see who's calling. Dad. He's requesting a video call. I settled down in a nearby seat before picking the call.“Munchkin.” He started, and I showed him my surroundings. “Happiness”. A voice called out. “Happiness”. Again. I moaned, opening my eyes to Mason shaking me vigorously. He took a deep breath when I opened my eyes. “Damn, Happiness. You just closed your eyes all of a sudden. Are you okay?” He asked, his eyes filled with concern. “Uhn? What happened?” I asked him, looking around and confused. ‘We're still in the backyard. Who interrupted our kiss?’ I wanted to ask, but kept quiet. “I was talking to you, then suddenly you just closed your eyes and you weren't saying anything.” ‘Oh My God! Did I imagine that kiss? But it felt so real, I even got goosebumps.’ “Oh, okay. Thank you.” I finally said when I noticed Mason was still looking at me. “What were you saying anyways?” I asked, acting nonchalant. I wanted to know why he touched me in the first place, my blood boiling in my veins all of a sudden. “I wanted to apologize about this morning.” He said, and I raised my brows. “I won't wander around shirtless again, I don't want you to be

I'm still jotting down the notes on my book when the lecturer finishes the first class of the day. I don't want to miss anything important. “I expect you to send the case study report by the end of next week. You can work in a group of two or three.” The lecturer said before walking out of the classroom. Now that I think about it, I don't have a partner to do the assignment with. I'm new here - an exchange student - while other classmates have already formed into groups. “Have you got a partner for the case study?” A voice asked behind me, and I turned towards it to find a girl sitting behind me. She has medium-length black hair, brown eyes, and pale Ivory skin. A smile spreads across her lips. “Would you like to join our team?” She asked. “It will be three of us.” Among my classmates, she was the first to reach out to me, and I appreciated her kindness. “I'm Martha by the way.” She extended her hand to shake hands with me, and I accepted it with a smile. “I'm Happy.” I told he

He dropped my shoulders, and put space between us. “This… We… I…” He ran a hand through his hair, hair that was in my hands seconds ago, his fingers tangling in it. “We can't do this.” He finally settled on, breaking my heart. Even though I know this was inevitable. My skin flushed a darker shade of red. I wanted to tell him that it was my first and best kiss I had ever had. I wanted to tell him that I would kiss him again and again till we both forgot our names. Instead, I cleared my throat. “You're right. It's my fault. I shouldn't have kissed you.” Something in me twisted as I said that, and I hope he'll see it in my eyes that it's a lie. “No. Actually, I'm the one that kissed you. And besides, I'm the older one, so I'm sorry. I got caught up in the moment, just…” He sighed and ran his hands through his hair again, my eyes following the movement. “Just forget it. Mason's POV “I'll see you soon.” I hear my voice. Everything around is dark. “Okay darling. I'll meet you at the altar.” I still remember the beautiful smile that formed on her lips as she spoke to me. Silence fills the air, but then the darkness starts to change. Light took over my vision as everything around me turned white. Distinctly, I hear people chattering around me, excitement in the air. They're sounding happy like they're about to celebrate something joyful. But then, their voice fades again, and only silence is left. I look down and find myself wearing a wedding suit and a pair of black leather oxfords. A wedding suit? Then I remembered that today is the day. Standing here at the altar, feeling nothing but joy and excitement. Everything feels so serene. My heart has never been this contented that I can't even explain what I'm feeling. I woke up with the sunlight shining brightly on my face. I opened my eyes and saw that the window was not closed. It took me a while to figure out where I am. My pillow feels different as I try to get more comfortable around it but was stopped by an arm. Wait. Arm?My face is deep in Mason's armpit and I was using his arm as a pillow. His other hand held me tightly around my waist. I tried to stand up and the movement must have woken Mason because he groaned, using his hands to block the sun. We stared at each other in silence. Something stirs deep inside me as I stare at him, but it feels so complex that I can't even explain what it is. “Good morning.” He said after some time and I muttered a reply. There's a look on his face but it was gone before I could place it. “What time do you have class today?” “10am.” I answered still staring at his face, trying to keep my eyes off his naked chest. The next morning, I woke to an empty bed. Mason had already left for work, but the faint scent of his cologne lingered on the pillow beside me. It was a small comfort, though it did little to ease the unease stirring in my chest. The messages had stopped for now, but the silence felt more ominous than reassuring. Whoever was behind them had wanted me to find the connection to Sandra’s brother, and they’d succeeded. The next question was why and what they wanted from me.I forced myself out of bed, showered, and headed to campus. The routine of classes and tutoring was a welcome distraction, but even as I sat in the lecture hall, scribbling notes, my mind wandered back to Mason. To Sandra. To Charles.By the time I left campus, the sun was dipping below the horizon, casting long shadows across the streets. I pulled my coat tighter around me, quickening my pace. The feeling of being watched was hard to shake, though every time I glanced over my shoulder, the streets were empty. When I r

Mason had left early that morning, promising to check in after work. I knew he was doing everything he could to protect me, but I couldn’t help myself. As soon as I was alone, I found myself searching for answers.Sandra’s brother, Charles, had been a name I barely remembered from years ago. I combed through old articles online, piecing together fragments of the past. He’d been in some kind of trouble before his sudden death, but details were scarce. Mason’s name didn’t appear anywhere, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that the message was pointing to something real.Hours passed, and I barely noticed. The more I read, the more my stomach twisted. It wasn’t until I stumbled upon a report about a police raid gone wrong that everything clicked. Sandra’s brother had been at the scene. And Mason had been the officer in charge. He was arrested for the murder before he was acquitted. I sat back, my hands trembling. I didn’t want to believe it, but the evidence was right there. Mason was

The apartment felt colder without Mason. He’d left a few hours ago for a late shift, but his absence was heavier tonight. I tried to focus on my schoolwork, yet every creak of the floorboards and whisper of the wind against the windows had my nerves on edge.By midnight, I gave up. My books were abandoned on the coffee table as I curled up on the couch with a blanket, the TV humming in the background. Mason had promised to call when he was on his way home, and I was determined to wait up for him.I must have dozed off, because the next thing I knew, I was startled awake by a faint click. At first, I thought I’d imagined it. I sat up, blinking groggily at the TV, but the sound came again. A soft, deliberate noise, like a lock turning. My chest tightened. The apartment was still, the kind of stillness that prickled under your skin and warned you something wasn’t right. I glanced at the door, my breath hitching. The lock. Did I double-checke it after Mason left?“Mason?” I called out h

Happiness POV The morning light filtered through the blinds as I groggily reached for my phone. I barely slept after that message. My heart still raced every time I thought about the words: “Sweet dreams, Happy.”My thumb hovered over Mason’s contact. I wanted to call him, to tell him everything. But how could I? He was busy working on a major case, and I didn’t want to sound like a paranoid college girl afraid of her own shadow. Though I know Mason would refute that thought.Still, the text haunted me. I shook my head and told myself that it was just a prank. It was probably one of my course mates with too much time on their hands. I can count the number of people I speak to in class aside from my friends and Leah's group. As the day wore on, I tried to push the strange incident out of my mind. Between my literature class, tutoring sessions, and the girls, I managed to keep myself distracted. But as I walked into the apartment that evening, the unease crept back in.Something was

Happiness's POVThe next morning, I woke up to the warmth of Mason’s arms around me. His steady heartbeat was a comfort I had grown addicted to. I lay still for a moment, enjoying the peace, but the quiet didn’t last long. The weight of the secret we were carrying pressed heavily on my chest. Our relationship wasn’t supposed to happen. Not like this. Carefully, I slipped out of Mason’s embrace, wrapping the blanket around me as I walked toward the window. The morning light bathed the room in soft hues, but it did little to calm the storm brewing inside me.“Why are you up so early?” Mason’s groggy voice broke the silence, making me turn. He was sitting up, and even with his hair tousled he was still handsome, a sleepy yet concerned look on his face.I gave him a small smile, though it didn’t quite reach my eyes. “Just thinking.”“About what?” He swung his legs over the side of the bed, standing and walking toward me.“Mason…” I hesitated, my fingers tightening around the edge of the

I made my way down the hallway to Happiness’s room. These past few days, I've been even more attached to her that going to bed without spending some time with her feels like something is missing.I know we've had sex a couple of times, but I try to control myself around her. The last time I almost lost it was the weekend. We had sex all night long, and I made her cum so many times. Not that I wasn't proud of it though. Yet, I don't want to be labelled as a grown man who exploits a young lady that's a decade younger than me. Exploit? What the Fuck Mason? I knocked on Happiness's door and wait for her to invite me in. “Come in.” Her alluring voice echoed from the other side of the door. I opened the door, and my gaze darted to her swallowing something on her dresser. It looks like a pill. She dropped the glass on the dresser then turned to face me, and I frowned.
