Before a person could use a rune weapon, he or she must make a contract with the weapon; an agreement which must be abode by both parties.  In general, there were two types of rune weapons in Wolftopia, active and passive. A passive weapon would follow it's master's desire entirely without any objection; however, an active weapon, such as the Armadale's Grimoire was not. It had its own desire, which sometimes possessed a latent danger for its own master. That was why a special kind of contract required in order governing this forbidden grimoire safely.
