Leila was agitated and grumpy, which were entirely unfamiliar feelings for her. She planted her hands on her hips and paced across the room, with only one thought circling in her head.

Could Thorn still have his dragon spirit? What exciting news!

Hardly anyone in the dragon kingdom had seen a real dragon for years. It was only a few days after the previous dragon queen, Tora’s, funeral. When the sun came up above the stretching horizon, the dragon spirits didn’t wake up as usual. Instead, they had all left their hosts’ bodies and disappeared into thin air. The whole realm was heartbroken with grief; some with weak minds even died because of the pain of the separation was beyond a toleration.

The Dragon King, Eros, had handled the event terribly. He canceled a series of traditional holidays that had been handed down from generation to generation since the beginning of the dragon era in an attempt to avoid any interaction with his citizens. All he did was hide in his palace, heavily guarded by the Royal Garrison. Rumor had it that the other royal dragons avoided appearing in public in their dragon forms. People had spotted dragons above the clouds only a handful of times, but they had always disappeared within the blink of an eye, so no one could confirm a sighting.

Naturally, as time went on, everyone had adjusted to a new way of life. It was a life without their dragon spirits. It was certainly inconvenient, as they couldn’t fly anymore . But as the citizens of the dragon kingdom got used to it, they discovered that it was fun to ride horses as well. Newborn babies grew older, and the people gradually accepted the fact that the dragon spirits would not come back ever again.

Leila was born without a dragon spirit, but she had been obsessed with all kinds of dragon stories since she was a little girl. She was still desperate to see a real one. With great determination to discover Thorn’s secret, she had decided to stay up the entire night.

All of the sudden, the noise downstairs had stopped. Did all of those men finally

leave? After both of her ears were adjusted to the stifling silence, she walked out of her room and down to the ground floor again.

Leila sighed with relief. The house was finally empty again, but the whole layout had been changed. Those workers were quick! The whole floor had taken on a completely new appearance. The living room was opened up through to the kitchen, and now the space seemed twice as large. The old furniture had all been thrown away, and was replaced with elegant and expensive pieces. From simply looking at the materials and craftsmanship, Leila could tell it wasn’t cheap.

A pleasant warmth spread over Leila’s body. She had to admit: The house was more comfortable to live in now, and she had Thorn to thank for that. She lifted the lace curtain of a window facing the front yard. The squadron of golden knights were still guarding the front gate, as motionless as statues. As for her neighbors’ windows along the silent street, not a single one of them had been left open. Each one was shut tightly. She saw the old ladies from earlier who had insulted her hiding behind the window with scowls on their wrinkled faces.

Leila couldn’t help but giggle. The golden knights must have given them a good scare. After locking the door from the inside, she spun around like a dancer where she stood; she could finally have some time to herself.

There was still hours before nightfall, so Leila decided to enjoy herself first. After all, she’d rarely had the house to herself before. She rushed down to the end of the hall and turned left, elated to discover a completely new bathroom. A mild woodsy sweetness wafted out from the room. The source of the scent came from a brand new wooden bathtub. There was even a row of scented candles placed along the rim. Might as well take a bath, Leila thought.

As Leila turned the knob placed on top of the faucet, hot water marvelously appeared. Astounded by the magic, she took out a box of matches and lit the candles. After taking off all of her clothes, an idea hit her; a tankard of milk would be perfect for such a happy moment.

She walked into the kitchen naked, trying to locate where had Ben put the milk. Then, she spotted a large wooden box placed inside a pool of water. With ardent curiosity, she opened the lid. The contents took her breath away.

All kinds of freshly-cut fruits and vegetables were organized in dozens of neat little boxes. The boxes themselves were circled by chunks of ice, a rarity in the dragon kingdom. Even ignoring its exorbitant price, it was hard to buy at all. It was always hot in the dragon realm. As soon as the merchants put up their signs reading, “Fresh Ice, Just Arrived”, it would be sold out in only half a dragon hour.

Leila touched a cute chunk of ice and was thrilled by the freezing sensation. She pulled out of a few small boxes containing strawberries and purple grapes, along with the tankard of chilled milk. She closed the lid, then quickly sped back to the bathroom.

The water was perfect; the temperature was warm enough to send a shiver throughout her body. She stepped into the water and sank down.

The medicine that Healer June gave her had worked wonders. All of her wounds and bruises were recovered. She stared at her own body through the surface of the hot water. It seemed even more delicate and porcelain-like than before. Her legs were lean and long, her waist slender, and her breasts were slightly plump.

Until recently, Leila had never paid any attention to her figure. But she somehow found herself becoming more aware of it. The image of Thorn’s gorgeous face emerged in her mind. She bit her lower lip while thinking about every sentence he had spoken to her. And his dark eyes! An uncontrollable flutter in her stomach made her face burn again. She made a mental note to control her feelings the next time, otherwise, it would be far too embarrassing.

With the help of the soothing scented candles and the heat of the water, an inexplicable dizziness finally hit her tired body. Thinking of Thorn, Leila dozed off.

She woke herself up with a sneeze. The water had cooled off, and the room was dimly-lit with low candlelight. The night had fallen. Leila quickly sat up and listened to her surroundings. It was still quiet. Maybe Thorn wouldn’t appear tonight.

Leila rose up from the water, feeling her body heavy with exhaustion. She grabbed a towel and wrapped it around her body loosely. At that very moment, she heard a sudden, loud whooshing sound outside the house.

She walked out of the bathroom, stood, and listened. It was quiet. Maybe it was just a large owl passing by, she thought.

As she was about to gather her clothes, another whooshing sound resounded over the roof. Through the small window, Leila spotted a pair of strong, enormous wings confidently soaring through the sky.

There was no time to grab her clothes. Leila rushed upstairs to her room. She realized why she hadn’t heard the sound before; the sound was very short and light, as if the owner of the wings was deliberately restraining their strength.

She tiptoed up the stairs. With extreme caution, she pushed the door open.

The room was lit with misty silver moonlight. The sky was crystal clear in a sea of stars. It was the dead of night. Holding back an immense amount of excitement, Leila quickly lifted the sheet on her bed and was just was about to get in before he arrived.

A handsome and fierce black dragon was flying right towards her window.

Apparently, the dragon wasn’t expecting Leila to be awake. He saw her, standing before her bed, wet locks of hair stuck to her bare shoulders. He was instantly flustered, and for the briefest moment, failed to shift in time. His wings slammed against the air. A strong gust of wind struck Leila through the open window. The towel wrapped around Leila’s naked body was blown off.

The dragon became even more flustered at the sight. His enormous wings smashed into the house’s outer walls. Bricks tumbled off, the roof caved in, and the dragon tumbled down to the ground.

The whole house was destroyed. Following his first instinct, the dragon shielded Leila with his large wings. After such a close call, Leila was unharmed.

Seconds later, among the smoke and flying dust, the dragon successfully shifted into Thorn. The prince found himself on top of a nude Leila, and he was naked to match.

Never had Leila experienced such a complete shutdown of her mind with her eyes wide open. Even so, a subconscious level, a deadly alert was screaming inside her head. She was still completely naked! Groping around to find the towel, she felt a seething heat enveloping her. The heat was too fierce to be ignored; she wasn’t even sure if it came from her own shock and embarrassment, or if it came from the naked prince on top of her. Even though the house was crumbling around her, Leila’s surroundings were somehow muted. She was seemingly having trouble connecting reality with her own perception as Thorn’s gorgeous, dark eyes emblazoned on his perfect face utterly dazzled her. Thorn finally asked, “Are you hurt?” as he looked down at Leila. He felt his dragon blood rushing with excitement. Leila shook her head mechanically. “Good.” He nodded and tried to push off the ground and back up, yet her peach colored nipples on her soft, plump breasts were mischievously in his way. Just as he

Leila wondered if Thorn’s lips were generating a kind of magical power, making hers reluctant to part from them. When she was little, Leila loved to collect cookie wrappers, as each one was inscribed with short tale. Among all the stories, her favorite had always been about the romance between the dragon queen and king. She often imagined what her own first kiss would be like, visualizing the circumstances, the emotions, and, most importantly, the person she would share it with. But she had never had the opportunity with anyone other than Arthur, the milk boy. Despite his decent looks, he would always only be a friend. Even if she had the choice, she would have turned him down. But she has never expected for her first kiss to be stolen by Thorn, even if everything felt just right. The slight moisture, feathery softness, and his pristine, fresh breath enveloped the brief kiss. Furthermore, there was an inexplicable sense of familiarity that caused Leila to linger there. Thorn was als

White robes were wrapped around their bodies, tied with silver sashes. They each wore a stack of thin, gold bracelets on both arms. The man who shouted at her seemed to be the leader of their group. “Who are you? And why you are here?” The chamberlain looked down at Leila patronizingly. “I…” Leila looked up at him tentatively. Everything about the chamberlain was graceful–the way he gestured and even the way he spoke. But there was a dangerous sneer hidden behind his thin lips. “Why have you come to the Dragon Prince’s castle?” The man asked again. Left tongue-tied by her recent bizarre experience, Leila’s mind was racing, unsure how to explain her situation. She shouldn’t have followed that butterfly and left the bedchamber after all. Upon discovering Leila’s peculiar eyes and dull skin, the chamberlain’s many years of royal domestic e

Thorn arrived at the garrison first thing in the morning. He had received a note, carried by a royal raven and marked with a black wax seal, sent by Hugo. “My prince,” Hugo came to his side when Thorn entered the yard, “They’ve been locked in the dungeon and are ready for you.” Thorn nodded and asked, “Where were they found?” “At a farm house, located at the edge of King’s Harbor. We discovered many signs indicating that the house has been unoccupied for quite a long time—rusty pots, dried-up drains, and a messy backyard. And this…” Hugo pulled out a crumpled piece of paper and showed it to Thorn, “I found it inside a hollowed-out pit. It was concealed by a wooden board under a bed. They claim they didn’t even know about its existence.” Thorn glanced at the paper, slightly furrowing his brow. It seemed to be Leila’s birth certificate. On it, her name and birth date were clearly marked, but all information about both of her birth parents had been scratched off. No matter a pure bloo

Leila was wandering around the amethyst castle alone. It was exceptionally quiet. The usual bustling servants were nowhere to be seen; only a few were traveling through the long shimmering passages linking massive chambers and grand halls. Thankfully, this gave her the confidence to explore the castle But Leila wasn’t actually alone. She didn’t notice that someone had been following her in the shadows from the second she stepped out from the bedchamber. Soon, she came upon a vast gallery off to the side of the flourishing garden. The room gave her an indescribable feeling. The sensation was undeniably beautiful, but also troubling. It was twice long as it was wide, and it was filled with numerous rare oddities; swords, shields, and finely-forged melee weapons were all symmetrically displayed in the space. At the end of the gallery, a shiny round button, made of obsidian and roughly the size of Leila’s palm, was inlaid on the wall. She was drawn in by its beauty. An obscure, mythica

Hiding his surprise, he asked, “You found your maid already?” “Yes, this is Nyree.” Leila grinned, deciding to leave out the fact that she had almost entered his mother’s tomb. “We met in the garden, and she’s helping me organize my clothes.” Thorn nodded and gave Nyree a brief look. “Be loyal to Leila from now on.” “Aye.” Nyree put her hand to her chest. “You may leave us now,” Thorn said, reaching out to Leila in an attempt to lift her up. Nyree left without lifting her head and closed the door behind her. She couldn’t help but smile; she had successfully become Leila’s maid without drawing suspicion. Dusk was falling outside the open window. The evening breeze chilled Leila’s bare skin, causing her to indulge in Thorn’s warm embrace. He held Leila up by her waist and put her down directly on the bed. The image of her in the dress,

The sun had set behind the mountains, and dusk was approaching. A majority of the golden knights had been sent to the main palace for Rina’s Dragon Moon. Only a small squadron, led by Hugo, was discreetly searching the city and the dragon palace, seeing as Leila’s aunt, uncle and cousins had all disappeared from the Royal Garrison last night. Hugo met with Thorn in front of the main palace dungeon. “Anything?” Thorn asked. “No.” Hugo shook his head, “We searched everywhere. Still no sign of any of them. The human slaves arrived and were crowded into the cells. I didn’t have the right to interfere. But I checked, and they are not among them.” Thorn’s suspicions were correct. Something would happen at tonight’s ceremony. They walked into the open yard where the event would be held. At the very center of the space, a towering altar had been built. Grooves were engraved into its surface and snaked into a massive totem of a dragon. Rina would complete her Dragon Moon there. He ordered Hu

The atrium of the main castle was quiet during the night’s final dream, soon to awaken. The King’s council chamber was old and full of dust. Eros had already awoken from the darkness, and was sitting by a gigantic stone hearth. Usually, he would have eaten breakfast at this hour, but instead, he chose to delay that for a moment, as he was expecting Thorn’s arrival. While waiting, Eros watched the dancing fire as his mind drifted miles away. A terrible dream, the same dream that crept up in his bed every night, had haunted him for a long time. Thorn walked by dim rooms and halls. Servants were dexterously getting ready to attend to their chores and start the day. Thorn had finally approached the gigantic, heavy marble door. “Come in,” Eros demanded with a flat tone, as if he could sense his son’s presence. Thorn pushed in and closed the door behind him. “Father. I hope I’m not intruding.” “Not at all. I knew you would come.” Eros turned around from the fire in the hearth. He moved

As soon as the stones touched their skin, they were incapable of moving.”“You’ve done well,” Olcan gritted his teeth, “They underestimated us in every possible way, thinking I could easily fall for this imbecile's trickery.” He walked over to Serlon, who was bruised and swollen, lying in a pool of his o

It was the night of the Lunar Eclipse, the strongest ever since the dragon race had lost their spirits. The werewolves believed that, if they could conquer the dragon palace, the first beam of searing moonlight would bless them with a century’s-worth of glory, power, and endless fortune. Leila heard the voice again. It was louder and clearer this time. Sla-thar.. It came from down below, but it was too dark to see anything from her current distance. A faint reflection of the moon loomed beside Leila as she sunk downwards, cradled in Thorn’s arms. Unlike the cold and remote moon in the sky, its silver light was blazing hot, like the sun hanging over a parched desert. The path ahead was endless. The farther they went, the less it looked like an underwater world. It was the fishy scent that reminded her that she was deep in a river. The pain in her belly was subsiding; it mellowed into a slight discomfort instead of a sharp, breathless ache. What was more disconcerting than the pain was the rate of its growth. Leila’s belly was growing larger at an unprecedented rate. Thorn put his hand on it, feeling its heartbeat. Leila stared at him through the transparent bubbles on their heads, trying to decipher what he was thinking. His thick dark hair swayed in the water. H
