Chapter 11: New Encounters

Mikalya’s P.O.V

“Mikalya?”

Do you sense that? Ruksaar’s mental voice rang loud and clear in my mind.

Yes. I told her. It’s definitely a wolf and a strong one. I’m guessing a Luna.

But why would a Luna be here in the middle of nowhere? Ruksaar asked. Are you sure there’s no longer any packs living here? In this entire state?

If there were, then the falcons wouldn’t be the only pack trying to confront us. I told her. This is another rogue. But with a child? That’s surprising for a Luna to be out and about with the future heir just hanging off her arm.

But I don’t sense another wolf, Ruksaar said. How could you sense the child? Are they the thieves that just stole from the kitchen?

I think so, I told her. But I can’t be sure. The child’s aura is very mild but I can sense it. I think it’s a submissive. There weren’t any wolves in town before today; I think they arrived just now. Let’s go check.

I got up from the chair along with Ruksaar…and halted.

Chapter 12: Follow thy Heart Mikalya’s P.O.V “My name is Kashmira Shaw and I’m from the DawnFrost pack in Jammu.” It was later afternoon, after we had returned to our hotel room with Kashmira and her son and helped dress her wound that she had gotten while trying to cross a fence this morning. The wound wasn’t infected and her healing had already kicked in, so she should be fine in a few hours. We had ordered room service and had our lunch together and it was only after she realized that we weren’t out to hurt her that Kashmira finally decided to tell us about herself. Now, we all sat on our bed in a circle and sipped on some karak chai (strong tea) as she breastfed her baby, whose name we learned was Kushal. She had gotten rid of the clothes she was wearing earlier, since they were torn and dirty, and now she had one of Ruksaar’s ghagras on and her face was uncovered. Now that I could look at her face properly, I could tell that she was very young, too young to be carrying a bab

Chapter 13: Firangi Abhay’s P.O.V It was snowing again. The ground was completely white. This part of the valley didn’t usually get much snow, but it was unusually cold this year. And I knew that it would only get colder, winter only a whisper in the air and yet it howled with a ferocious chill all around me. I looked at the waterfall in front of me, untouched by the winter chill. Jharna, that was what we called it. The literal Hindi translation of a waterfall, but it just sounded right to us. It was freezing outside but I knew it would be nice and warm inside the pack house. It would also be noisy with the new packmates. But I liked that noise. It was welcoming. It was home. And so was she. Something dropped to the ground at my feet, distracting me from the view. A sense of déjà vu threatened to overwhelm me as I looked down to see what it was. It was only a speck in the vast sea of snow but it stood out amongst the white. It was in the shape of a tiny droplet but the warmth comi

Chapter 14: Getting to know you Abhay’s P.O.V I stood in the middle of the market place, admiring a couple who stood in front of a colorful bangle shop. The man wore a white tunic with loose fitting white cotton trousers and a rainbow coloured turban on his head while the woman was wearing a bright yellow and red ghagra choli. Her dupatta was hanging off of her head and that’s how I knew she was unmarried. The man was courting her and he was buying her a set of yellow and green bangles to go with her ghagra. Taking my camera out of my bag silently, I turned the flash off and took a few quick snaps of the couple as the man placed the bangles into his girlfriend’s awaiting hands and she accepted them with a delighted smile. Surrounded by a backdrop of so many colours, they looked magnificent. “Shouldn’t you be asking permission before you take someone’s picture?” I nearly jumped out of my skin at that half-whispered question by my ear and my camera slipped out of my hands. I yelped

Chapter 15: Entitled Mikalya’s P.O.V “Hey! How’d it go?” Ruksaar bombarded me as soon as I entered the hotel room, just like I had expected her to do. What I hadn’t expected was that Kashmira and her son would be in the room with her, having dinner and gossiping away like they were long-lost sisters. I frowned at the arrangement but didn’t comment on it. Ruksaar and I would need to have a long discussion soon. “It was good.” I told her truthfully as I went into the bathroom to freshen up and change. I wasn’t used to ghagras and dresses, but Gujarat had a strict dress code. Anything remotely ‘modern’ was highly frowned upon. “Good?” Ruksaar raised her eyebrows at me as she looked me up and down. “Says the woman who got all sparkly for the date.” “It wasn’t a date.” I gave her a glare as soon as I saw that stupid smile on her face. “And no, I will not hear any more discussions on this topic.” “Fine.” She puffed her cheeks before turning to Kashmira. “Why don’t you put your son do

Chapter 16: Realization Mikalya’s P.O.V “Where did you get this?” I asked Abhay as I took a sip of the alcohol and felt the sting right down to my stomach. Damn, this was potent! “Some locals were sipping on it and I got interested.” Abhay shrugged his bare broad shoulders, his eyes a bit unfocused as he looked at the fire burning in front of us. “I was pretty sure I got riffed off but that’s alright, I guess.” Yup. He was hammered. But I found out that it was a good thing. His speech was continuous and he was no longer stuttering nervously in front of me. Alcohol gave him the confidence to push past my Alpha strength. I’d lived almost a hundred years, seen and experienced several lovers, but there was just something about Abhay that I couldn’t shake. He was adorable yet masculine; nervous yet brave and shy yet forward. He was a mix of contrasting characters I’d never experienced before and yet, they all seem to come together very nicely. Was I feeling this way because he was my

Chapter 17: Leaving Mikalya’s P.O.V The first rays of the sun woke me up from a deep slumber, causing me to groan out in irritation. I tried to shift into a better position without opening my eyes, but found that my bed had turned into granite. The cool morning air felt good on my skin. After enduring the heat of the desert for so long, I was glad to be back in the mountains where I could once again enjoy the cold weather and ditch those god-awful skirts for good. But why was there sunlight inside my room? I brought my hand up to cover my eyes and discovered there was something grainy on them that were irritating my skin. Snapping my eyes open, I finally realized what was going on. I wasn’t back in the Himalayan mountains…I was sleeping in the desert sand with Abhay next to me. The small blanket that had been thrown over our bodies wasn’t enough to keep the cold away and Abhay’s curled up body beside me was proof enough that the temperature had dropped considerably this early in

Chapter 18: A Stolen MomentAbhay’s P.O.VI got to the hotel where Mikalya was staying, earlier than expected because I wanted her to see me as someone who was serious and intentional about our relationship, and not some player who just wanted to be with her for her beauty alone.Already, I could feel my heart rate spiking up with every minute that passed which just told me that she was close by. I couldn’t explain it, but there was this special connection I felt with Mikalya that I hadn't felt with anyone in my entire life. And just then…I heard it…the sound of her footsteps as she descended the stairs down to the lobby. My hands instinctively went to my camera that I had strapped to my neck just in case. Chapter 19: Stuck in TimeMikalya’s P.O.VI got out of the car and looked at the ruins closely. The truth was that I didn’t even know what to make of it. It was a national monument so to speak but still, standing in its presence was a thrilling experience, one I couldn't even put to words.“Wow,” I whispered, more to myself than anyone else.I had to give it to Abhay, he had gone above everything I had ever imagined and. Even I never realized that a place like this had existed in the middle of the desert. The structure was in ruins, but still, I could feel the rich cultural history just by standing in front of the collapsed remains of what was once a magnificent castle.Abhay came around, coming to stand beside me as he took my hands in his, giving it a gentle squeeze. And for the first time, I didn’t want to remove my hands from his.Usually, I never liked having someone hold my hand or act lovey-dovey with me. I never could stand acts of PDA. Chapter 62: EpilogueMink’s P.O.VFor seventeen years, I had lived my life alone, waiting…hoping, that by some miracle, Abhay had survived the fall, that I hadn't been ripped away from my first love, my mate, and the father of my daughter, by some twisted turn of fate. But when a decade had passed by without any news, I had ventured all over the country once again, hoping to find some semblance of peace in my restless heart.I had gone to Abhay’s parent’s house, disguised as a salesgirl, and I had found his picture on a wall, adorned with flowers, a symbol that the person was deceased. The picture had been so real, so jolly, that I had almost apologized for everything. His mother had been a kind soul, offering me water and sweets even though she didn’t buy anything. When I had asked her about the picture, she had told me that her son, Abhay, had gone missing and never came back. So it was mandatory to assume they were dead after a decade of waiting.I had left with a heavy heart, but

Chapter 61: A Final GoodbyeMink’s P.O.VAs I stand at the edge of the Jharna, overlooking the cascading waters that once held so much meaning, I feel like a hollow vessel, drained of purpose. It's been a year since Abhay died, a year since he left, leaving behind a void that seems impossible to fill. The memories of our time together haunt me, replaying like a bittersweet symphony in my mind.I close my eyes, trying to block out the pain, but it's always there, lurking just beneath the surface. The only thing keeping me going now is my daughter, Alaya. She's the reason I get out of bed in the morning, the reason I keep putting one foot in front of the other. In two days, she'll turn one year old, a milestone that fills me with both joy and sorrow.I remember the day Abhay and I ventured down into the valley, seeking solace in the tranquility of the meadows. The sun was warm on our skin, and the breeze carried the scent of wildflowers. We walked hand in hand, lost in our own little wo

Chapter 60: A Light Amid the DarknessMink’s P.O.VAs I stood there, frozen in shock, time seemed to slow down to a crawl. I watched in horror as the knife sliced through the air, aimed directly at Arsalan's eyes. His expression shifted from determination to disbelief as the blade found its mark, piercing through his flesh with a sickening thud. Blood spurting through the wound as he staggered backwards, a gut-wrenching scream escaping his lips.Everything around me seemed to blur as Arsalan stumbled away, his vision obscured by blood and agony. In the chaos that ensued, I could hear Abhay's panicked voice shouting for him as he moved away towards the Jharna, to lure Arsalan away from me.Arsalan's wrath knew no bounds, as he turned away from me and raced back towards Abhay. But just as Arsalan reached out to grab onto Abhay, their fates intertwined in a tragic dance of violence and desperation, my own transformation began. As I shifted from my wolf form to my human form, a primal scr

Abhay’s P.O.VBracing my uninjured hand on the snow, I got up into a seated position and took a peak at my shoulder. The black wolf had dug through skin and bones and if I wasn’t mistaken, left one of its fangs embedded into my shoulder. But that was the least of my worries. The cold was making me numb, unable to feel the pain, and for now, that was a good thing.I stood up on unsteady feet and immediately, blood gushed down my arm and soaked the sleeves of the coat to drip down onto the snow. And that was when I saw it. I saw my dream unfolding right in front of my eyes. The blood dripping onto the snow. The gushing waters of the Jharna in front of me. And the plain soaked with blood behind.“This is it.” I whispered to myself. This was how my life ended. This is what the heavens have been preparing me for through my dreams.I turned back slowly, finally facing the battlefield and it wasn’t at all like my dreams. Yes, the field was soaked in blood, but it was also filled with the mot

Abhay’s P.O.VThe battle raged around me like a violent tornado, the weight of the gun and knifes in my hands a stark reminder of the danger lurking in the shadows. My heart raced with adrenaline, each sound sending a jolt of fear through my veins but I couldn't afford to let fear consume me, not when Mink's life hung in the balance.I spotted movement ahead, the glint of moonlight reflecting off fur, and I knew the wolves were closing in. Gripping the gun tighter, I steadied my breathing and prepared for the inevitable confrontation. It wasn't much, just a simple handgun and a knife, but it was all I needed. Mink and the other wolves were fighting in their wolf form, so this was nothing compared to them.As the first wolf lunged at me, teeth bared in a snarl, instinct took over. I sidestepped its attack, the knife flashing in my hand as I slashed out, catching the wolf across the muzzle. It yelped in pain, momentarily stunned, and I seized the opportunity to fire off a shot, the reco

It was time. With a silent signal, we surged forward, a blur of fur and fangs, our packmates at our heels. As we neared the clearing, I caught sight of the imposing figures of Alpha Arsalan and Alpha Daksh, flanked by their formidable pack.“It's time. Do everything you can to defend this pack and yourselves, may the Moon Goddess be with us.” I said.Ruksaar, with her sleek black coat, her movements fluid and calculated. But amidst the anticipation and joy, there's an undercurrent of unease, a feeling that the other shoe is about to drop soon. The news of Arsalan's Beta's death reached his Alpha much later than expected, a delay that was completely unexpected because I would have thought Sahil to have sent a telepathic message to his Alpha as soon as I had slashed his chest. But as to why that hadn't happened was now a cause for concern. However, we then stumbled upon a new discovery that went against our strategic planning and the reason why Sahil hadn't sent Arsalan a final cry for help became increasingly clear.
