Lily pinched the bridge of her nose and folded her arms across her chest. "I'm sorry, what?" She repeated her question to the strangers at her vacation home. "A descendant? Of whom?"
"Oh, well..." Willow brushed her fingers through her short black hair. "It's rather complex to explain." She lifted her gaze to Lily. She could see the regret flicker in them for a moment. "This wasn't how I hoped to share this with you."
"What she is trying to say..." Dante rested a hand on Willow's shoulder and gave it a reassuring squeeze. "She's sorry, along with the rest of us, to have dropped in unannounced and dropped this bombshell on you." He glanced over at Jayce. "You know I do not have any ill intentions towards you or your family. None of us do."
"I hate to disagree with you." Jayce growled softly while he maintained eye contact with Aiden. Aiden returned the glare in kind.
"This will not be some Alpha versus Alpha fight off, is it?" Amira asked as she looked at them. When the two Werewolves continued to stare each other down, she shook her head and focused back on Lily. "We have a lot to discuss. Just please hear us out first."
"There is nothing to discuss." Jayce intervened. Lily peered back at him to find his hand extended to her. There was no hesitation as she returned to his side again. "You are all trespassers in my home. Leave. Now." He rested a hand on Lily's back and turned themselves away from them.
"Running away?" Aiden's voice caused Jayce to stop. "So like you."
"You know nothing about me." Jayce looked over his shoulder at him.
"I know a lot more than you think." Aiden bared his fangs as they sharped slightly.
"Stop it." Lily finally snapped. The two Werewolves continued to size one another up. "Jayce." She reached over and rested a hand on his arm. His eyes wavered a moment before he stepped back to calm down. "I don't get what's going on. I don't understand why a bunch of strangers are in our home." She let out a slow breath. "What is the main reason you all are here?"
"Karmina." Rayleigh spoke up. Lily felt her blood run cold. Jayce instinctively pulled her closer to him. "She's escaped her prison and is wandering the world of the living as we speak." She gets to her feet. "I will not sugarcoat it for you."
"Ray, wait..." Amira tried to stop her, but Rayleigh blocked her off with her hand.
"No." She glared at Amira. "There's no more time for this." She turned her gaze back at Lily. "The Dark Witch that indirectly attacked you ten years ago has returned. She is far more powerful now and with her out and about, she may exceed her power from what she had hundreds of years ago."
Rayleigh gestures to the book Amira was still holding. "All the answers in defeating her are right in there, but only the descendant of the Moon Goddesses can read it."
"And Angel." Zalakai threw out there.
"Angel?" Lily asked incredulously. "There're Angels to?" She looked up at Jayce, who even looked as shocked as she felt.
"Back to the point." Rayleigh interrupted. "To put it bluntly, you carry the blood of Ariel, an Angel..." Rayleigh held up a finger. "A Wolf Spirit." She put up a second finger. "And even the Moon Goddesses favor you." A third finger went up.
"I think I need to sit down." Lily said as she leaned against Jayce.
"Sorry to disappoint you, but Lily doesn't have a Wolf Spirit." Jayce informed them. He lead her to a chair and sat her down in it. "If any of this were true, don't you think I would have sensed it?" He questioned them.
"Not unless it's locked away." Willow told him. "Please..." She took a step forward and Jayce mimicked by stepping in front of Lily. "Allow me to look? If I'm wrong, then we'll leave. We'll never trouble you again, but let me clear the air."
"Let her see, Jayce." Dante pleaded. "Willow is an excellent Witch, probably the most powerful Witch to exist." Willow looked back at him. "It's true, and I've been alive for ages."
"Please?" Willow asked again. Lily looked at Jayce's back. She can tell that he was debating the idea.
Let them...
Lily and Jayce both stiffened as reflex at the sound of Nox's voice in their heads."What was that?" Amira asked as she eyed them suspiciously.
"Jayce." Lily bypassed Amira's question. "Let her through." He didn't budge. "She won't hurt me."
"What if she does?" He asked.
"Then you can kill me." Willow suggested.
"Willow!" Dante whispered her name sharply.
"Do you trust me?" Willow asked him. Dante looked at her worriedly. Lily knew that look anywhere. A shared look between lovers.
"Of course, Pixie." He told her and nodded for her to proceed. Jayce stepped to the side, but remained close by as Willow walked over and knelt in front of Lily.
"Can I have your hands, please?" She asked politely.
"You seem familiar." Lily commented as she placed her hands on Willow's. They were soft. Delicate.
"You know my grandmother, Janice." She smiled sadly. Lily stared at the girl, seeing the tiny similarities.
"I didn't know she had a granddaughter. I'm so sorry..." Lily frowned. "She was an amazing woman. I owed her a lot."
Willow's smile uplifted slightly. She set her shoulders back and enclosed her hands around Lily's. "This won't hurt. What I'm going to do is take a glimpse inside your soul. It may feel invasive, like mental prodding, but no damage."
"If it were under different circumstances, I'd feel excited right now." Lily said honestly.
Willow smiled warmly as she straightened her back. "Take a deep breath for me." Lily inhaled deeply. "Good." Willow's voice was soothing. "Let it out slowly and close your eyes. I'll do the rest." Lily felt an odd sensation to trust this young woman.
Lily let her eyes fall shut and was met with darkness. Though she didn't feel alone. She felt Willow's prodding, as she had warned her beforehand. It felt uncomfortable, and agreeably invasive. Like someone's fingers poked around inside of her. She continued to pry, being as delicate and careful as she could be, when a deep, disturbed growl forced her out.
Lily's eyes sprung open as Willow had released her hands and fallen back onto her ass. A bead of sweat gathered on her brow as she stared at Lily in disbelief. Dante had darted forward and supported her when she attempted to gather herself again.
"You have a Wolf spirit." Willow announced. Lily looked at her, confused, when a reassuring growl filled her mind.
"Oh, that was Nox." Lily smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry if he frightened you."
"Nox?" Aiden asked. "So, you have a Wolf Spirit after all?"
"Oh, no." Lily quickly shook her head. "He's not mine. He's Jayce's." She gestured to her Mate.
"How is that possible?" Amira asked her. "You shared your Wolf with her?"
"I'm sorry, is that not actually a thing?" Lily asked as she peered up at Jayce.
"Ten years and you are now just realizing this?" Rayleigh asked, annoyed.
"I don't know how I did it." Jayce answered honestly. "There was a time where she needed strength and so..." He rested a hand on Lily's shoulder.
"It just happened." Lily completed without going into further detail. Discussing her past was always a very private matter with her. Jayce knew this. His parents knew this. She wasn't fully ready to disclose such information to strangers.
"It shouldn't be possible." Aiden spoke up. "A Wolf Spirit belongs to a single person. It can't be shared with others, no matter the circumstances." He turned his gaze on Jayce, who stood firm beside her. "There's more to it." Jayce growled deeply, the sound of it caused the ground to vibrate.
"Look..." Lily got to her feet and helped Willow to her feet. "Perhaps I'm not the correct person you are searching for. I'm sorry. I'm just not her." She spotted a flicker of doubt in Willow's gaze, but it quickly receded. "You made quite the trip here. We have plenty of rooms to spare for the night. Please, be our guests. I insist."
"But..." Jayce tried to intercept when Lily turned a stern gaze on him. He sighed, caving so easily to her. "Fine. Fine." He surrendered. He combed his fingers through his hair. "Help yourselves, I suppose."
"Lily." Willow called her name when Jayce stepped away from the room to speak with the guards. "I promise, you are the woman we're looking for. I've seen it." With that, Willow, followed by the others, made their way upstairs. Aiden, however, held himself back.
"What you did before?" Aiden questioned. "You stopped my Wolf." He eyed her carefully. Nox growled within her head. "We wouldn't have made this trip for nothing."
His hand ran over the space beside him. He grudgingly opened his eyes to find his Mate missing from his bedside. He sat up and glanced around the open room. The gentle crash of the waves came in through the open balcony. Salt. Seaweed. Lilies. Tangled in with the mix of scents that drifted into their room, Jayce pushed himself out of bed to search for her. Ever since these strangers arrived, she had been quiet. Distant. He couldn't blame her. How could one fully comprehend the bombshell they dropped on her so suddenly? Without even knowing who she was? He stepped out onto the balcony after tossing on sweats to find Lily standing out on the beach. He sighed to himself as he silently admired her for a moment. The full moon shined brighter than usual this night. The scatter of stars that blanket the sky and no cloud in sight to block the view. Moonlight enveloped her in radiance. Her golden locks shined nearly a blinding white. Angelic. Jayce froze as he thought of that. After what t
"Mom, do we have to go back now?" Myra whined. "We didn't even swim with the sharks yet." The Wolf pup pouted with disappointment. Lily smiled sadly at her daughter as she zipped up her luggage. "I know, sweetie, but something came up and your father and I need to handle it right away." Myra hopped up on the bed she finished making. "Is it about this Karmina lady?" "And how do you know about her?" Lily asked as she rested her hands on her hips. "You weren't eavesdropping, were you?" "No." Myra avoided Lily's gaze. Lily inclined her head and continued to stare at her silently. Myra finally looked at her and rolled her eyes. "Okay, I did. It's not like you all were quiet, anyway." "Myra." Lily said disappointedly. She looked at her daughter for a moment. She reached out and ran her fingers through her blonde hair with black streaks. Unnatural to many, but Lily adored it. She loved how different the children were compared to other pups. Was that another reason for her identity cris
Erica burst into laughter. "I'm sorry. This is a joke, right?" She asked them. Once everyone settled in, Willow explained the situation to her. As expected of Erica, she laughed at the hilarity of it. Jayce sat out for a moment to get the children settled and to take care of a few things in the Pack House. Their sudden arrival back home with no notice set off an alarm to his security, and it was safest if he handled it away from the house. Lily didn't object, though she wished he was with her to go through this ordeal a second time. Thankfully, Damion, her other moral of support alongside Erica had arrived shortly before Jayce had left and filled him in on the unexpected guests. To say the least, Damion was equally not as welcoming to the bunch as Jayce originally was. She knew he smelt it in each of them. Their distinct differences. Especially Zalakai. Lily set down a small tray on the coffee table with cookies and pasties. "I have tea, coffee and water if anyone would like any."
He tossed back the shot glass; the liquid burned his throat. "I know I agreed to go along with hearing them out, but what they claim is still ridiculous." He grumbled to himself. He stood beside the large tree that played as a centerpiece to his garden. One of Lily's favorite places to go when she desired serenity. Now she retreated to the piano room and locked the door to refrain him from entering. The declaration where she is this Angel, Werewolf and Witch hybrid creature overwhelmed her and she instantly shut down. He couldn't blame her, though, and he had grown to give her the space necessary to process such news. But this. This sort of thing he wanted to be with her on. To know what was going inside her head. Yet, only one figure in her life can and he's barely spoken up since this whole ordeal started. "You've been awfully quiet, Nox." He leaned his back against the tree. "If you don't speak up, I'm coming in." Still rather impatient, aren't you? "Only because it's about L
"Okay, I have the wine." Erica called out as she entered the room. "Erica, that's three bottles of wine." Lily called her out. "Darling, we may need a fourth and fifth bottle, depending how tonight goes." Erica told her honestly. "My hubby is also delivering us pizzas any minute now." She set the bottles on the small coffee table. After Jayce and Lily agreed to have a sit down with them, it was arranged to have the discussions at the Pack House. Penelope volunteered to hang back at the house with the children while waiting for Derek to land. However, getting through the Pack House was... challenging. With Jayce's warriors stationed at the Pack House, all eyes, ears and noses were on them the moment they all arrived. It would have been easier if it was just herself, Jayce, Damion and Erica coming through. Even with the additional Humans walking through the building, the attention wouldn't be as bad. However, a Vampire, A Rogue Werewolf, a Witch and a Demon were thrown into the mix.
Jayce sat back in his chair as he surveyed the group closely. The ice clinked in his whiskey glass as he brought it to his lips. Dante sat poised, with one leg crossed over the other. He was a defined gentleman to the letter with his black slacks and dark red button up. His dark hair had grown a little since the last time he saw him. The golden eyes shimmered as he took a sip from his own whiskey glass. Though, being a Vampire, he most likely wanted something else to drink instead. He didn't know the man well enough, but he was respectable and well versed in the world's knowledge. Amongst the group all together, he was the most trustworthy. He shifted his gaze to Aiden next, who filled his whiskey glass to the brim and practically downed it. There wasn't anything good to say about the Wolf. He's a Rogue. A defiant Alpha. On top of all of that, blood related them to one another. They couldn't be anymore different, though. The man sat with dirty jeans and work boots with a black fitte
"And then he..." The door opened abruptly, and stalled Lily from finishing her story. Jayce towered in the doorway. She bit her lip as he glanced around the room until his eyes settled on the broken lamp on the floor. "Jayce!" She smiled brightly as she rushed over to him and grabbed his hand. "We were telling stories, and I had to share a bunch with them about you." She pulled him into the room to show him off and noticed Dante, Zalakai, Aiden and Damion followed him. "Lily." He stopped her and sniffed her hair. "Have you been drinking?" He asked her. "Yeah, but it was only..." She stopped and counted on her fingers. "This many!" She held up one finger on each hand. Jayce looked over at Erica, who held up six fingers instead. "Can you say my name again? It gives me butterflies." She giggled. "She's very giddy and childish when she's drunk?" Damion asked as he slipped past everyone and joined Erica at her side. "Oh, it gets better." She nudged him gently. "This is just a portion
Jayce! Wake up! A crash startled him awake. He bolted upright, his hand landed in the space Lily had been sleeping in. A light blinded his vision from the open doorway into the lounging area. With that light, he heard gusts of wind as if a tornado had been set off in the other room. It's Lily! I can't reach her! Nox panicked. He had never heard his Wolf speak with such fear in his voice. Jayce rolled out of bed and got to the door when he met a strange scene. There was a heavenly light centered in the middle of the room. Within that light, black text spiraled around like a whirlwind vortex in the air. Below it all, with the book open in her hands, was Lily. "Lily!" He shouted to her, but she didn't respond. The wind grew stronger, but he refused to standby. He forced himself into the wind. His claws extended as he dropped to his knees and stabbed his claws into the floor to keep him steady. Jayce looked around for anything to knock the book out of her hands when the door to the
Her heart was in her throat. As she stood in front of the Pack House. Jayce, after making the call, was informed that Damien was still at the Pack House, recovering. As well as Erica being at his side. "Do you need a moment?" Jayce asked her as he held open the door. Lily let out a shaky breath. "No. No more waiting." Jayce gave her a small smile as he took her hand and led her inside. The Pack House was busy. His Warriors were preparing with all weaponry available in their arsenal. Jayce's men looked relieved to see them again. Each one arched their necks in respect as they walked past. "It's an adjustment." Lily smiled awkwardly. "Having gone to a Rogue community who don't care what title you carry, to a home where everyone looks up to you." "It was a small reprieve." Jayce admitted. His hand grasped hers. "For once, not having others turn to me as their leader, but just as another Wolf." His eyes softened. "It was a different perspective, but a necessary one." "Jayce..." Lil
Home. He set the bags on the bed, his eyes swept the room. It had only been a week since they departed from here, but it seemed like months since they've been gone. There was much to do before the battle happened. The talk with the other Alphas. Finalizing safety protocol with the Pack members that hadn't left. Damien. "Damien." He murmured softly. He hadn't heard anything after what had happened. Aside from being stabilized, he hadn't heard from his Beta, his best friend. Was he alright? Angry? Disappointed? "Jayce?" Lily's soft voice reached his ears from the doorway. He hadn't heard her come to the room. "Do you want to see him?" "I will." He reassured her, but hesitance still lingered. Lily sensed it and walked over to wrap her arms around his waist. "Everything will be okay. I'm sure he missed you just as much as you missed him." "Will you confront Erica?" He asked as he wrapped his arms around her shoulders. "The last time you two were together, it wasn't pleasant." Lily
The familiar foyer was a sight for sore eyes. The warmth and security of their home was a long wait that was overdue. Everything appeared as it should. No Undead wandering about. No decaying wallpapers or blood streaks of violence. Tidy. Clean. Home. Lily released a breath she didn't realize she was holding. "We're back." She whispered. "I never realized how much I missed home until a situation occurs." Jayce voiced alongside her. The tension in his shoulders easing slightly. His nose wrinkled as he picked up the scents. "I'll be..." "Jayce? Lily?" A young male voice chipped in from the kitchen. A tall, more on the slender side version of Jayce peeked his head from around the kitchen doorway. His short black hair pushed back from his face as he grinned. "Shit, you're home." "Elias." Lily smiled instantly as Jayce's younger brother walked over to greet them. "How long have you been here?" She asked as she hugged him. "It feels like I haven't seen you in months. When did you get so
"Are you sure you don't want to wait another day?" Aiden asked Willow as they all walked down the dirt road. "I don't think one more day won't hurt us if you need to gather yourself after that ordeal." A handful of children ran by, laughing like the fight to come was nonexistent. Carefree regardless of the nightmare his community suffered through just a few days ago. Willow shook her head adamantly. "We can't continue to delay every time Karmina throws a wrench in our plans." "I'm afraid she's right." Dante agreed. He had discarded his ichor stained vest and switched out his slacks for a fresh pair. "As much as I desire a reprieve from Karmina's stunt, the longer we hold off, the stronger she will get." "Will Winston cover for you in the mean time?" Lily asked as her eyes swept over the shops and houses they walked past. "I trust Winston to keep things running no matter what." Aiden adjusted the strap on his shoulder. "Besides, my mom will also be here." He felt Amira's quick gla
Willow's gasped loudly before she coughed heavily. "Willow!" Dante wrapped his arms around her after Jayce released her and stepped away. She dry heaved while she clung to Dante. "My sweet Pixie, what on Earth happened to you?" He pushed her hair back from her face. "Karmina had her." Jayce coughed, his voice partially warped. He ran a hand over his face as he turned away from everyone. Lily walked past Willow as Dante tended to her and approached Jayce. "Nox?" She called out gently as she placed a hand on Jayce's arm. His body tensed under her touch. His fingers parted enough to show his Wolf eyes. "Are you alright? Did she hurt you to?" Lily asked worriedly. He let out a sigh. While he kept a hand over his face, perhaps not to alarm the others, his other hand rested over hers. "It's strange diving into someone else's mind that is not my Mate or children." He admitted gruffly. "Perhaps you see them as part of the Pack more than you realized." She stated. Jayce lowered his hand
"Willow?" Dante's concerned tone drew Jayce's attention, along with the others. As he peered back, he found Willow stock still just past the entryway. Her eyes glazed over milky white. Dante had taken her hand in his, his eyes searching her face as he waited. "A vision?" Amira asked as she set a foot on the first step. "It's nothing out of the ordinary." Aiden huffed softly as he switched his grip on one bag. "She'll come out of it in a moment." Dante reassured, yet his shoulders appeared tense. "Her visions don't hurt her, do they?" Lily asked worriedly as she stood beside Jayce. "No. They're pretty harmless." Dante confirmed, as he brushed Willow's bangs from her eyes. "She told me they feel real while she's... away." He tilted his head from side to side as he tried to explain. "But no physical harm." Jayce studied Willow carefully. The way her brows seemed to draw just a fraction closer together. The way her lips part in the slightest bit. "Does she normally react outwardly
"Sounds like they patched things up." Aiden cleared his throat as he moved away from the staircase. "How do you know?" Willow asked, perplexed. Aiden tapped his ear. "It can be a blessing and a curse." The once naive young girl wouldn't have guessed what he meant by that, but the grown young woman felt her cheeks flush lightly from the inclination. Aiden joined Amira by the front door as she went over the duffle bags. "Got everything you need?" "Weapons, both blade and gun. Medical kits. The bow." She pointed to each bag. "To list a few." "Clothes?" He chuckled softly. Amira, without missing a beat, held up the backpack. "Ah. Good." The wooden floor creaked from the second floor as Jayce and Lily emerged. Lily's cheeks were still lightly flushed while Jayce had a small smirk on his lips. "You both look well." Willow commented. Lily looked down at the group as they descended the steps. She averted her gaze shyly while Jayce made no attempt to hide their intimate encounter earlier
When was it that he last touched me like this?Jayce's lips glided along the arc of her throat. His tongue flickered out to feel her pulse that raced beneath her skin. His hand roamed over the curve of her hip, his fingers hooking on the leggings she wore and tugged them down earnestly. Lily felt his Mark ignite, throbbing with an ache that had been deprived for months. Her nails dug into his back, raising a soft growl from his throat. The sound raised goosebumps along her exposed legs and a shiver to run down her spine. He sat up. His fingers shifted into claws and tore her shirt open. Ten years ago, this would have surprised her, even made her call out in shock, but her fingers caressed his cheeks and brought him back down in a welcoming kiss. She felt him sigh against her lips as he melted against her. His claws woven into her hair as he wedged himself between her thighs. "Lily..." His voice a deep rumble in his chest. "I have a darkness within me." He murmured against her lips.
His head ached when he stirred. There was a slight weight on his chest when his eyes fluttered open. As his blurred vision began to clear, he recognized the room he and Lily were guests in at Aiden's home. The warm glow of the setting sun spread across the ceiling through the blinds. He inhaled deeply. The sweet scent of Lilies filled his senses and his eyes dropped to his Mate and her head that rested on his chest. Lily... The flash of memory from his Wolf nearly taking her life flooded his mind. He squeezed his eyes shut, his hand clamped over his face when he felt her shift and sit up. Her sleepy gaze swept over him before they brightened with alertness. "Jayce!" She smiled with relief. "You scared me. You've been out for a couple of days." She informed him as she brushed his hair from his face. "Lily..." He grumbled weakly. "The kids will be so relieved." She went on. "Myra has been worried sick, and the boys are confused." "Lily." His sharp tone ended in a growl. She fell
