After Ella ended the call with Jessica, she went back to sleep. She had been having poor sleep and she could barely get a full hour of uninterrupted sleep. So when sleep came so easily, her body willingly submitted. However, her sleep had taken her to another dimension filled with nightmares.
Ella let herself into the dark and quiet house. She instantly knew something was terribly wrong because she could not hear her children playing. She switched on the light and gasped in surprise when she saw an empty room. There was no furniture or wall hanging or even a single item in the room. She wandered into the kitchen and was met by the same emptiness. Ella was feeling panicked as she looked through the other rooms and found the exact same thing. The house was empty.

It was a cold morning and Ella drank some coffee to warm herself up. Her first few days at the apartment had been overwhelming as the silence and solitude made her mind go into overdrive. She drove to her therapist’s office hoping to get a walk in session because she had not made an appointment. To her surprise the receptionist asked her to wait for another specialist to attend to her. Ella was in the middle of explaining her preference of Susie when a middle aged man walked in. He took Ella to his office and broke the news of Susie’s death to her. He also explained that he was comfortable taking up her case once he was updated on her case files. Ella felt like she had been struck by lightning and she froze for a good two minutes. While she was still processing this shocking information, Ella was taken out of the man’s office and into Tracy’s office. She was surprised to find Tracy sitting at Susie's desk with tears streaming d
Jessica and her children were having breakfast on Saturday morning on the front porch. They were having a fun conversation with the kids and their nanny when she spotted three SUV’s driving into the compound. She was enjoying her day and was not really ready to host Richard and his entire entourage. The cars parked near her porch and several men came out and began offloading different boxes with assorted gifts, books and groceries. The men then greeted them and began taking the things into the house. Richard came out and the children received him with warm hugs and kisses. They then all rushed into the house to see what he had brought them. The nanny followed behind, leaving Jessica and Richard alone.“You could have come with less pomp you know,” Jessica said.“I’m sorry. I had already bought all these things when I re
Eddie had been working hard for three days non stop. He was making up for the two days he had taken off work so that he could spend some time with Ella. He was deliberately doing this so he would be able to see her again without work interruptions. Everything was going according to plan when he got an interesting phone call.“Aunty Catherine, did you finally remember you have a nephew?’’ Eddie asked with jest. He often teased his aunty this way. But today, she wasn’t in the best of moods.‘I’m ok son. You are the one who forgot me. I guess you are too busy these days,” she said.“Work has been tying me down but I promise I will see you soon,” he said.“That is ok. I need a small favour from you. Can you le
The first place that Ella and Eddie were taken after they were arrested was an abandoned building. They were then separated and left alone for what seemed like hours. After some time, they were separately interrogated and then they were left alone again. Ella was on the verge of a mental breakdown by the time Victoria showed up several hours later with several high ranking security personnel. They gave her a statement to sign and then Victoria excused them.“I was really regretting sending you away but I’m not. Those men almost tore the house apart looking for you. As though that is not enough, they sprayed the cottage with bullets. You were the target and Lola was just collateral damage,” Victoria said.“What did they do to her?” Ella asked although she wasn’t sure she wanted to know the answer.
It was exactly six am and the alarm blared loudly. Tracy switched it off and sat up groggily. She had barely gotten any sleep but she dragged herself out of bed. It was Friday morning and she had to get ready for Susie’s funeral. The past week had gone by like a blur as Tracy received a wider number of visitors than she had anticipated. A couple of Susie’s and Tracy’s mutual friends had taken turns to visit her daily and take her to the vigils that Susie’s family had organised. It was some of these friends who had slept over at Tracy's house to support her. As they drove to the funeral grounds, the ladies engaged Tracy in playful banter and helped her relax so that she was calm by the time they arrived. The funeral service went smoothly and Tracy marvelled at the beautiful tributes of people whose lives Susie had touched. The burial process was also seamless although Tracy was unable to control her tears. Tracy and her team wer
The next morning, Tracy woke up to the sound of music playing. She walked out of her bedroom and was welcomed by a sweet aroma from the kitchen. She walked to the kitchen to find Tokodi making breakfast. He greeted her with a warm smile.“I thought you could use a heavy breakfast. I hope you don’t mind me cooking,” he said. He had already made sausages, pancakes and oatmeal and was now finishing with the tea and eggs.“It actually reminds me of Susie. She rarely cooked but when she did, she went all out. I will really miss her cooking.”“What did she like cooking?” Tokodi asked.“Everything from all types of meats and these fancy salads with exotic vegetables that are so hard to find. We once spent the whole night in
“Get as much information from her as possible. I’ll double your pay if you can get something I can use.”“I’ll do my best sir.” the lawyer Mr Khan said.“Your ‘best’ had better include results that put her in jail.““I’m getting into a meeting. I’ll call you back later.” Mr Khan said as Jessica walked into his office.“Good afternoon, Miss Tracy,” Mr Khan said as he put down his phone. He keyed some commands into it and then set the voice recorder. He locked the phone’s screen and set it aside. Tracy was oblivious to all this as she was taking out the documents she had been told to bring.“Mr. Khan, when did
“You wouldn’t have to look around like a stranger if you would visit sometimes,” Florence said.“Isn't it ironic that you want me to visit my parents’ house?” Tracy said sarcastically.“We have been over this too many times. They owed me money and I had to pay myself. I would have let you stay if you had not been so stubborn,” Florence said. She did not bear the slightest bit of remorse.“The cremation is next week on Thursday. I will send you the details later today,” Tracy said.“I already told you that will not work. Tracy has to be buried next to your parents in the village. We do not cremate people in our culture,” Florence said.“If she has to be buried, why can’t we bury her in the public cemetery? You are compli
“Dad, if you were in my shoes what would you do to your parents?” Blake asked when they were left alone.“Son, it’s been a long day. Let me go and get checked by a real professional. We can discuss other things later,” Aurelia said.“Your daughter in law just saved your life yet you cannot give her the slightest bit of respect?” Mr Raymond asked.“I don’t have a daughter in law. Besides, I didn’t ask her to touch me with her filthy hands,” Aurelia said. Blake’s eyes turned ice cold.“Your stinking attitude just made things much easier for me mum. As of two hours ago, your passport has been recalled and you no longer have diplomatic immunity. There are some people outside who will escort you out
“What is the meaning of this?” Aurelia asked.‘Have a seat mum,” Blake said as he sat down and pulled Ella on the seat next to him. His parents sat down reluctantly while Blake dismissed the security personnel.“Mum, please meet the governor Richard and his girlfriend Jessica. I’m sure you have met Kevin before,” Blake said.“I have never seen that man in my life,” Aurelia said haughtily.“Well, let me play a little video that will help you jog your memory,” Blake said. The tv switched on to show Rose, Kevin and Aurelia in a luxury hotel having dinner in a private room. Their conversation revolved around building a solid case that would ensure that Ella was put behind bars. Ella was so shocked that s
The VIP lounge at the airport had suddenly turned to a buzz as a certain celebrity came into the country. Mrs Aurelia Raymond took advantage of the chaos to slip out of the lounge and into the company of Rose. Aurelia had spotted one of Blake’s men waiting for her but she wanted to bypass him so she could communicate with Rose without any interception.“Why did you take so long?” Rose asked irritably.“I think you have forgotten who I am, young lady. I don’t owe you any explanations,” Aurelia said. She took out her compact kit and began dusting her face.“I’m sorry madam. I’m just a little anxious,” Rose said as she rolled her eyes. If it wasn’t for the fact that she had been unable to infiltrate the Raymonds finances then she wouldn
“What do you want to do today?” Richard asked Jessica. They had returned to the hotel room after the buffet breakfast and Jessica was reading a book.“I thought I would buy some gifts for the children,” Jessica said.“Ok. I’ll come with you,” Richard said.“Are you not going to visit Eddie?” Jessica asked.“We can go in the afternoon,” Richard said.“I wanted to talk to you about something,” Jesssica said.“I’m listening.”“I was just wondering what you did with Kevin,” Jessica said. Richard’s face darkened and
It was the weekend and Tokodi and Tracy woke up mid morning. They showered together and changed, then packed all of Tracy’s things and headed home. Tracy was eager to open her gifts and she began to do so. Each gift was thoughtful and impressive and Tracy ended up showering Tokodi with many kisses. By the time she opened all the gifts, Tokodi was feeling like the king of the universe. He helped Tracy to unpack and arrange her jewellery, clothes and appliances that he had bought her. Tracy looked as happy as a child eating ice cream, and she even shed a few tears when Tokodi said that he had bought all those gifts to celebrate their engagement. Later that afternoon, Tokodi went out to buy some groceries and toiletries while Tracy cleaned up the house. He had been itching to leave the house so that he could attend a meeting with Blake.Tokodi had woken up that morning and taken Blake’s numb
Back at the Raymond residence, there was confusion and excitement amongst the staff. Only one driver was aware of when Ella had returned, and he explained how he had simply picked her up from an apartment complex. He had been with the Raymond family for years and he knew how to be discreet while releasing just enough information to generate some counter intelligence. The man could clearly recall the animated conversation which he had subsequently narrated to Blake.“Are you sure you picked her up from an apartment? I was there when the police dragged her out of the house. Blake must have picked her up from a police station,” Dora said. She had come downstairs with rage and explained to the other staff members how Blake’s criminal ex-wife had sneaked back into the house.“We picked her up at a middle class estate. I don&
“You are a really good dancer,” Tokodi said to Tracy when she returned from the dance floor. She took a large gulp of her drink and sat down.“You should join me for the next one,” Tracy said as she tapped her foot in rhythm to the music.“I have two left feet,” Tokodi said as he watched the flushed look on Tracy’s face. They had decided to enter this night club when Tracy heard the invigorating music from outside. He was accompanying her as she went to pick up her things from the serviced apartment she had been staying at.“How do you get sleep with this noise?” Tokodi asked. The serviced apartment was adjacent to the club and the walls were literally vibrating because of the beat.&ldqu
“Is everything okay?” Jessica asked Richard. He was staring at his phone during breakfast and had barely touched his food.“I’ve been trying to call Eddie since last night. The phone keeps ringing and he doesn’t respond,” Richard said.“That is odd. Do you think maybe he left the phone in his car? It’s still early in the morning and he may not have noticed,” Jessica said. Richard shook his head in disagreement.“He doesn’t usually leave his phone unattended. His work calls come in at all times of the day,” Richard said.“Maybe I should call Ella. She may know where it is since they work together and they are dating,” Jessica said. Richard nodded in approval and Jessica removed her phone f
Ella woke up feeling confused in her new home with Blake. She stirred out of sleep and looked around the elegant bedroom tastefully furnished with brown and white hues. She sat up wondering how she had ended up in bed while all she could remember was drinking milk and eating cookies at the sofa.Ella took a cold shower and dressed as she wondered If Eddie and Bryer were ok. She looked around and could not see any of the bloody clothes from the day before. Ella used the brand new toiletries that had been laid out and she finished getting ready. She was feeling a little hungry and wondered what time it was. There was no clock in the bedroom and she still had no idea where her phone was. Her phone had been in her handbag which had remained in Eddie’s car. Tracy felt tears fill her eyes when she remembered how Eddie had been shot. She had never known that Blake could be so violent and cruel. The mem
