Chapter 43: Maid

SERENA’S POV

Damn. This was what I was talking about. How could Gray hear that when I could barely hear what Landon was saying? Damn it!

I clenched my fist as I hid it under the table. I then looked turned to Gray—who was looking only at me with a raised brow. I displayed my pearl-white teeth, pretending that nothing was going on.

“Oh, I wasn’t talking about you, Mr. Moore. To tell you frankly, you are not the only person that we deal with every day. We have personal lives, too. And, you are not the only person that we know in this room. We could talk about anyone who’s in here right now…” I said, trying not to be sarcastic but still ended up sounding that way.

I thought I got it from Landon.

“I thought I heard my name, Ms. Ambers. No need to get mad,” Gray answered, withdrawing his curiosity. Well, I guessed that worked. Landon and I almost got caught gossiping about the Moores on the spot and worse, by Gray Moore—the smartest and the only person that had a brain of them all.

SERENA’S POV Damn, she knew who I was. Wouldn’t it be strange if I asked her if we had met before while she thought I was Jane Williams-Moore? This maid was probably one of the servants that the Moore family had while I was still living with them. She must have known a lot about me given that we were living in the same house then. “I am Serena Ambers, Ma’am. Nice to meet you…” I stated, my eyes focused on the old maid. I just noticed that she was holding most of Geraldine’s not-so-heavy stuff. There were things that were on the floor when we collided, but the old maid immediately reached for it before Geraldine came. “S-Serena Ambers?” she asked, stuttering and with a knotted forehead. Her eyes marveled at my body from head to toe, almost shedding a tear. She could not help but gasp as the seconds passed and the disbelief still wasn’t leaving her being. Who is this woman? Was she a part of my life before?“Yes, Lucia. Serena Ambers is a different person. She’s not Jane Moore that

GRAY’S POV“What do you mean you saw her here?” I asked, even though I already had an idea that she was talking about Serena. As far as I knew, Lucia had been very close to my wife right after she got hired as one of our maids. “Tch, don’t mind this woman’s delusion, son. She saw Serena Ambers in the hallway and thought that it was Jane. We had the same reactions as her when we first saw that wench at the anniversary celebration. I could not really blame her for assuming that Serena is your ex-wife.” “I don’t think she is a different person, Ma’am. I know who Jane is. She talks and walks like her. She may have a different fashion style, makeup, or hair right now, but I believe it’s her. I have been telling you that Jane is still alive—”“Enough with your delusions, Lucia! That woman is ill-mannered and looks at herself as if she’s someone higher than me. She was the reason why Hazel got fired! Do you really think your Jane acts like that? To hell with that woman!” my mother cut the

GRAY’S POV Damn. Was I really obvious during the meeting? Even my mom noticed how much I became a fucking attention seeker almost an hour ago. She was watching us closely, she said. I could not come up with what to answer her. She slapped me with the truth, and I did not think I was able to defend myself further after that. “Do you like that woman, Gray? Do you like the woman named Serena Ambers who looks exactly like Jane?” Lucia asked me a few moments later, breaking the silence that I created. My mother and I looked at Lucia simultaneously, having different reactions. I raised a brow, while my mom gave her a look in disbelief. Lucia was only focusing on me, though. She did not even glance at my mother. “What made you ask that, Lucia? You don’t even know Serena…” I answered indirectly. I was not a fool to notice how I was acting these past few days. I knew the difference between being a professional businessman and a man who had an interest in a woman. I wasn’t sure which one I w

SERENA’S POVLandon handed me water as I massaged my temple. Well, Lucia was in my dreams, but I was not sure if that dream was actually a memory. How could I be sure if all I knew was I slept in the car?“What did you remember about that woman, Serena? Do you think she’s someone important from your past?” Kaihly asked me, sitting at the edge of the bed.“I actually remember that maid from the Moore’s mansion before. As far as I can remember, Lucia was the only person that had a close bond with Jane. Well, I am not sure, but I have seen Lucia and Jane once talking in the garden, almost hugging each other…” Kelly mentioned all of a sudden. She had been quiet for a while now as if she was trying to remember something. This was the first time that she spoke ever since she went inside my room.Hugging each other? She must be something important from my past. Maybe that was why she also looked familiar to me. She was kind in my dreams, too.Feeling dizzy, I closed my eyes and tried to rec

SERENA’S POV The conversation ended when my doctor arrived at our house. Actually, Dr. Howard wasn’t originally my doctor through my whole journey of struggling with amnesia. My doctor lived in California, and the one who was with us right now was the only one of her friends that happened to live in Texas. He was the most trusted one that we could reach for right now. We were lucky that he was available when we called. My siblings and Landon left my room for my check-up and a brief talk with Dr. Howard. He asked me many things about what happened, but as someone who could not even remember if it happened to me… I could only answer a few and most of my answers were unsure, too. “I think what you just had was your memory. You were unconscious when it happened, so you think all of it was just a dream. It’s just strange how can you not be aware of what happened to you when Ms. Rowans told me that you were shouting out of pain when you were in the car,” Dr. Howard explained as he w

GRAY’S POV“I am sorry, dear, but you know how much I bonded with your wife ever since I became one of your maids. Saying these words to you might make me lose my job, but my disappointment is thicker than my love for your family…” I watched how tears fell from Lucia’s eyes one by one. Seeing Serena for the first time might have triggered something in her. She was still probably grieving, and having to be face-to-face with someone who looked exactly like Jane surely woke up something inside her. Ever since Jane died and Lucia became aware of what was the reason behind it, her treatment toward me had gone cold. You would not see Lucia passing by me without asking how my day was or if something bad happened to my day. But ever since she learned about everything, she would not even glance at me and would only nod whenever I would talk to her. She wasn’t saying anything, but I knew she blamed my family. She was blaming us. She was blaming me. “I understand, Lucia,” I stated in a low to

AERAH’S POV“Aaaaaaaa! Fuck you, Serena! Fuck you! Why do you keep getting all men in Texas?! Damn!”No matter how many times I refresh Serena Ambers’ comment section, Landon Mitchell’s name would still appear at the top. I had been doing it since yesterday, hoping that something would change and the man of my dreams’ name would disappear. Still, it wasn’t gone. His name and his comment stayed the same as if telling me that I really stood no chance against Serena when it came to Landon’s type.“Minimize your voice, girl. People are staring at you,” Kelsey stated as she rested her face on her palm, almost rolling her eyes at me. Just like me, we were both in a bad mood. I thought I ruined her day, as she would not feel the same way I did if I did not call her to be with me. Kelsey had other plans and I only forced her to listen to my rants that was why she was here.“Do you agree that I am prettier than Serena? That girl didn’t even have my curves! How can Landon call her beautiful wh

SERENA’S POVWhat? Mr. Moore? Did I hear her right? I could see Miranda trying so hard to block the gate just so the people outside would not see us. Damn, what the hell is he doing here? Kaihly said that it was just Gray’s secretary outside! “She is resting right now, Sir. I don’t think Ms. Ambers would like it if you would go inside without her permission…”What the hell?Irritated, I took a deep breath and cleared my throat, making Miranda look at her back—specifically in my direction. Her eyes immediately widened, seemingly troubled that she saw me here right now.“M-Ms. Ambers…” Miranda called, stuttering. The commotion outside halted. Slowly, I walked toward the gate and stood beside Miranda—where I could see who were the people outside. Gray, standing like a gentleman revealed himself. He was with someone, probably his newly hired secretary. My brow instantly raised. Where did he get the audacity to be here? When did I tell him that he’s allowed to step foot in front of my p

I felt like I still needed to say something to him before finally leaving the state. My family was already inside the jet, waiting for me to get inside so we could all leave this place. I thought Gray’s friends understood me when they started waving their hands as they walked away from the both of us.We needed privacy, and I was thankful they weren’t slow to understand what I wanted to happen.“I am leaving now. You may or may not see me anymore once this plane leaves to send us somewhere you’ll probably know soon only if you’re desperate enough to find where I live…” I stated, chuckling. Knowing Gray, he could pay millions just to get what he wanted. “I’ll know where you are. I’d go crazy if I didn’t get an update—”“I would not text you or anything, Gray. I would cut connections to all of you. It is also a challenge f

SERENA’S POVThe sound of my heels colliding with the floor surrounded the empty hallway of this floor. Weeks later and I finally had the time to visit this wench face-to-face.Hazel Brown was sent to jail immediately the day I got rescued, as she didn’t have any major injuries like Geraldine Moore. I did not know how had she been since she was arrested, but I hoped she was suffering here. I hoped she would rot here.I went inside a room when a policeman opened the door for me. This room was just for private visitations, so this was far from Hazel’s cell. This one was decent and might be comfortable for her. I did not want her to feel this good while she was in jail.“Why did you visit me here? Is sending me to jail not enough for you?” she asked the moment I sat down in front of her. Her hands were handcuffed and there were two policemen behind her, while my bodyguards were on my side. “Any form of punishment and torture would never be enough for me, Hazel Brown. AERAH’S POV My heart was throbbing in anxiety as the maid of the mansion escorted me inside. This wasn’t my first time coming here, but this was the only time that I dared to enter the huge structure and face the people whom I had been having anxiety about talking with. I heard my brother was here again. I needed to talk to him… at least just this once. “I did not expect to see you here, Ms. Moore. You’re looking for your brother?” I was startled when I heard a voice that was similar to the voice of the person that I was most scared to face. Looking to the side, I saw Kaihly Ambers sitting on one of the couches, a plate filled with fruits resting on her lap. She was alone there, and I was so thankful for that. She looked exactly like Kelsey, the only difference was that she had soft features and lacked the boldness on her face. “Y-Yes. Have you seen him? I heard he’s here… according to his secretary. I just need to talk to him,” I answered, my confidence leaving me as the minutes

GRAY’S POV Ever since Jane got rescued and woke up from her deep slumber, I started having a new routine. It felt like I was already living in their house because I refused to leave her side even though I had a ton of paperwork to do. One part of her room looked like my office. It had a table and a swivel chair where I did what I was supposed to do in my office. Her family offered me a room, but as I said, I refused to leave her side. I would only do so if it were nighttime. But everything must come to an end. When Jane finally healed, I took the initiative to leave her alone and only met with her whenever she went to work. I would visit her from time to time, though—but only if she allowed it. “What the hell is this, Gray? What’s the meaning of this?” Jane inquired curiously as she put familiar papers on my table. “Have you read it?” I asked her back. The last time I saw those papers was already years ago, when I thought she had died, and all I could ever think was to give her e

GRAY’S POVI was not expecting Jane’s family to let me enter their home after all the things that happened. I wouldn’t question it if they banned me here, but that was not the thing they did. They simply let me wander around their house as if I did not do anything wrong, as we all waited for my wife to wake up.Jane was peacefully sleeping in her room, a bedside monitor standing beside her. It had been two days since she got rescued, and she still hadn’t woken up since then. Fortunately, they didn’t hurt her when we hadn’t arrived where they hid her, so there was nothing serious that happened to her body aside from the wound that she got before they took her. She already got the treatment that she needed, but her doctor said she was still under trauma, which was why she wasn’t waking up.My phone had been vibrating for a while now. It wasn’t a call from anyone but text messages from my sister. She had been asking me if I was going to visit our mother in the hospital, and if I was eve

SERENA’S POV“Oh, stop overreacting, Aerah Celine. It’s just a shot on your leg. Why bother to cry?”I could not believe this old hag. It felt so strange listening to her confident voice when I had been watching her fake her illness a thousand years ago. How could she do all of that stuff? How could she shoot her daughter?“Mommy, stop this now, please—”“Oh, shut the hell up, Aerah Celine! The moment you chose to side with the woman, I no longer considered you as my daughter! How could you betray your mother, huh?! You are just like your brother—”“And how can you call yourself our mother while doing all of these, huh? I can’t believe you, Mom. After all these years… after all of the things that I have done for our family…”I still could feel the metallic material that was pointed at my temple, but after hours of waiting and I finally got to hear Gray’s voice, waves of relief washed over my chest. We were still here yet I already felt like my problems were now resolved. There was no

SERENA’S POVI felt lightheaded as Charles continued carrying me. The only hope that I had with me right now was the fact that Gray would be with us anytime soon. How dumb it was to feel like this when I was the one who ran away from him before I got kidnapped.I was the one who put us all into this.“Jane, I have to stop carrying you for now. Aerah Celine will guide you while I protect the three of us from any person who might come to us. This will be quick. Gray and the backups will be here anytime soon…” Charles whispered to me, making me open my eyes amidst the gunshot that I was hearing around the building.I was comfortable being carried by him, as my injured leg could not take it anymore. But hearing that this would be over soon, it was as if the motivation to get through all of these that I thought had left my body made me agree to what he said.My silent nod was his cue to put me down carefully. The moment that my feet felt the solid ground immediately had me gasp in pain. Ae

SERENA’S POV My lips seemed to be experiencing draught due to dryness, my bruised leg was numb, and I was damn well sure that I had lost a lot of blood during my whole stay in this building. It had been so many hours since Hazel told me those things. She said that she would finish me and I would not be able to leave this place alive. During my hours of stay here, I had a lot of time to think of what she told me. I even came across thinking of the things that I wanted to tell not just to my family but also to Gray before Hazel decided to kill me. It was so heavy in my chest to even think that I would not have the chance to talk to Gray after learning all of those things, but somehow, while I stayed all alone here for I did not know how many hours, there was a time that I accepted that this would be my end. That I would die without achieving the justice and happiness that I deserved. I did not know what Hazel was waiting for. Is this her way of killing me? To let me have an infection

GRAY’S POVIt had been a day since Jane went missing. Because of this happening, we paused everything that we were about to do during the whole team building. To be fair to the other employees who had been so excited about this out-of-town activity, I gave them all a budget to stay on a nearby island where they could enjoy things without interruptions. There were only a few of us left here, and when I said few, only Jane’s relatives and mine were present. Including the police officers that we contacted, of course.“Look for my daughter in all the corners of this island and the nearby ones. It is so impossible for her to be missing in this small place. I need you to find her.”The woman whom they called Victoria, the mother of the love of my life sat at the end of the table with a wine glass in front of her. Just like what they described her, she had a strong facade because of her sharp features which no one dared to talk about while she was speaking.I did not know if I was the only o
