The shaman had just finished her isolation in the shrine for forty days and her child was picking herbs to make her food after staying that way without food but only water for those days. The shaman walked outside to see the clouds enveloping the evening sun and in a matter of minutes, the sun was enveloped in the cloud, making everywhere dark all of a sudden.
“This is an ominous sign. This is not good” she sighed as she panicked and ran to meet her child in the kitchen.
She grabbed her shoulders and turned her to look into her eyes. “You should prepare to flee this village as soon as possible. There are guests coming from the east and I can see that it will be deadly” she warned but the daughter just shrugged her hands off
“What are you talking about? I cannot leave if you are not leaving with me. Let’s receive the guests together” she declared adamantly
She snapped! “You should listen to your mother! This is not the time for jokes. What I am seeing is deadly and I don’t want you to witness something like this. I’m not sure of what will happen exactly but there will be so much blood” she explained quickly but her daughter didn’t even flinch
“Do you think I didn’t see that happening for days? I know something unpleasant is about to happen but if I run and leave you here, I will never forgive myself foe doing that so it’s either you get ready and we leave together or stay here together. The choice is yours” her daughter stated firmly
“I cannot leave my people. If I run away, who will guide them?” the shaman said trying to convince her daughter but she wouldn’t budge
“You should guide the people, I will guide you. If you will leave me alone now, the food will be ready in the next hour” the daughter told her and focused on what she was doing
“What a stubborn wench! I hope the gods will look upon us with pity” the woman sighed and gave up even though she couldn’t keep her eyes off the cloud.
The shaman, Arya, has been guiding the small town of Tor for more than forty years. She was given birth to in the descendants of the shaman family and is one of the most powerful shamans in her lineage but her only weakness was her daughter.
Her daughter Elora doesn’t gave the powers passed down to them. She is just like every other person. Although she knows everything about her family’s business, she cannot perform any rituals or rites like a shaman because she lacks power. Her mother tried to invoke the family’s power upon her, tried to transfer some of her own powers to her but none worked. She had to give up and sadly admit that she will be the last shaman of her family.
“The food is ready so come quickly before it gets cold” Elora, her daughter called out to her breaking through her thoughts
“I will be right in” she shouted in response and turned to go inside
They settled at the set table and Elora opened all the delicacies she had prepared. One thing she was excellent at was cooking. She was the best cook in the competition that was held by the village during the harvest ceremony and she has a sharp memory, she never forgets what she sees even though it’s once.
“You sure made a lot. My daughter is the best after all” Arya wowed at the various dishes and Elora smiled in return
“You should fill up all the spaces you left empty all these while. I know how hungry you will be by now” she lectured and motioned for her mother to eat
“You are right, I am really hungry just like you have said” Arya admitted and picked up the spoon to eat
They both ate the food silently and when they were done, she took the dishes to the kitchen, washed them and went to find her mother outside of the house where she sat there looking at the moon and praying to it.
She watched her from behind and felt sad that she couldn’t do anything as the child of a shaman. She had always wanted to relieve her mother of her duties but since she was powerless, she can do nothing like that. She slowly approached her mother and stood beside her rubbing her palms together, praying silently to the moon to please give her powers so she could at least help her mother out but she didn’t pray for long before she stopped, maybe because she knew it was a futile effort.
She went ot sit on the small bench outside and waited for the mother to finish prayer. Her mother finally joined her and they both talked about various things that happened while she was in isolation.
“I am sorry I don’t have powers to relieve you. I really feel sorry. You should be resting by now but you can’t because of your weak daughter” she said slowly, hanging her head low but the mother took her hand lovingly before telling her to look at her
“Elora, I believe you are not powerless, your powers are hidden deep inside of you waiting for the right time. I’m very fine and okay. I can still continue the duties so don’t worry I will be by your side to find the key to your powers. You will get to use them one day” Arya assured her and she burst into tears
She had always been teased of being powerless and just a weakling because she gets tired easily, is fragile and can’t even walk for long. The only thing she’s energetic about is cooking. She can cook all day but any other thing is a no for her
“I am sorry mother. I’m really sorry for everything” she sobbed continuously and Arya pulled her into a hug.
They went in to retire for the night and was already asleep when a strong wind blew from the east. Arya flew up immediately and tapped Elora who was snoring hard beside her multiple times to wake her up.
“Wake up Elora! We have to flee. This is an emergency” she called out and the daughter struggled to sit up after rubbing her eyes multiple times to keep them open
“Why are we fleeing in the middle of the night? Is there a war or something?” she asked confused about her mother’s tone of urgency
“A war is coming, a war that no one will survive. We have to run as soon as possible” Arya replied, pulling her to her feet.
They packed some of their clothes and tied it in a small bag, got out of the house to flee but the mother told her to wait before running into the shrine. By the time she was back, she clipped a small necklace with a fishbone pendant on Elora’s neck and placed her hands on it to cast a spell. Immediately. The necklace disappeared to Elora’s amazement.
With a shaky breath, she asked “What was that?”
“This necklace will guide you always and protect you. It can never be stolen from you because no one can see it but it will become visible every full moon and its energy will be so heavy. You must protect it at all cost on those days, because there will be people who will surely come to take it away when it becomes visible to them” she explained to her daughter who kept nodding even though she was not sure about what her mother was talking about.
They began to run towards the exit of the city but they were met with loud noises. There were sounds of horse hooves, bright fires were approaching at a very fast speed, and the marching of legs were heavy. They turned to run back but before they knew it, the forces had walked in on them and they began to seek cover.
The village was filled with cries as people ran up and own to seek refuge. Houses went up in flames and people were captures, those who resisted were killed and before anyone could blink, the soldiers had taken over the small town.
Elora and Arya were hiding under a small shed which protected them from the soldiers who already marched on but a dried leaf of the shed’s covering landed on Elora’s nose and made her sneeze loudly. They heard someone stop for a while but the person began to approach the shed after few seconds. Arya quickly clasped her hand to cast a spell on the shed but she was too late, the shed was opened and one of the soldiers brought a light to make their faces visible.
“You little wenches thought you could hide right?” Beta Loras growled and pulled them out immediately, throwing them on the ground
He was about to leave with the soldiers but lurked aroun when he smelt that people were still around. He was still trying to trace the scent when Elora sneezed and that made it easy for him.
“We are just people who are happy in our small town. We did nothing to deserve this. I assure you that you will be punished by the heavens, don’t you sleep soundly because you will be fed to the dogs” Arya cursed at Beta Loras who was furious as he remembered Leia’s words on the night she was to be executed
“You little witches always find your way to annoy me. You should take responsibilities for your curses” he replied and pulled out a sword to slash them but Arya covered Elora and got slashed instead
“Mother!” Elora screamed in horror as her mother collapsed into her laps. She looked up with her eyes red with fury, she didn’t care about anything at that moment.
“You should follow your dear mother” Beta Loras continued and turned to slash her but he was stopped by Prince Jaqen who came back to find him when he observed that he wasn’t following them.
“Are you going to kill at the slaves now? What do you think you are doing?” he lashed, cutting through his action
“She deserves to die! Her mother cursed me, how dare she?” Beta Loras fumed with his sword raised up in the air
“Since when do you believe in curses? You should let go of your raging blood thirst and throw her into the midst of the slaves instead. We have to greet father with evidences, don’t you think so?” Jaqen tackled him and he had no choice but to drop his sword.
“Take her with the slaves” Beta Loras commanded and turned back to join Jaqen who already turned his horse to ride away
“Can I please bury my mother? She doesn’t deserve to be in the open like this. She needs to at least get buried” Elora begged with tears and Jaqen stopped his horse to look back
“Do we look like we have that time? Will you move now or I should let the Beta have your head rolling on the floor alongside your mother? How annoying!” he growled at her and the lightning struck the sky at that time to reveal his face
“I will make sure to remember your face, just so you know” Elora muttered as she managed to stand up and follow the soldiers with tears streaming down her face.
She was taken with other hostages, they all had their hands and legs tied to one another and formed a straight chain as they walked in the cold night to the shelter where they pitched their tents far at the end of the town. The Princes and the Beta were on horses leading the troops to the camp but no one said anything till they got to their destination, only the sounds of horse hoofs, legs and dangling of chains were heard.“it will be better if you all sleep early because we will be setting out in the morning, I don’t want a situation where anyone will delay our journey by being tired, anyone who is tired will be helped by being sent to eternal peace with the sword so you all should rest as much as you can within the given hours” the Beta announced but no one was strong enough to answer him, they were all silent and looking at him before he motioned to the soldiers to take them to their own tents where they were chained to the ground and the soldiers were assigned to guard them in c
After walking for more than four hours, they finally got to the capital and they were taken to the palace where the other maids and the head servants for each quarters were already waiting to receive them since the news of them coming already arrived before them thanks to the messenger. The servants hurried and lined up to welcome them with their heads bowed in respect while Falkor and Beta Loras led the group of hostages in.“My King, the Prince and the Beta are around with the hostages” Obi informed the Alpha who was studying in his room“Really? I should go welcome them then” he replied standing up and walked to the court where they were standing with the hostages“My Alpha, we are back and victorious, we even brought hostages” Beta Loras announced with a smile“Father, I am back” Prince Falkor said bowing to the Alpha“I can see that, you are welcome. You should rest and take care of yourselves so you can replenish every energy” the Alpha addressed them and turned to go before tur
He rode back from his pursuit game with strange woman who disappeared into the thin air within seconds after talking with him and his guard, Derib was already looking for him because he had come out to inform him that the bed was ready but he couldn’t find him. He could only breathe a sigh of relief when he saw him come back on his horse from the dark corner“You went running this night?” Derib asked reaching for the horse’s rein to tie it up the horse as he came down from it“I went after something but I lost it” he replied dusting his robe“should I chase after it instead? It must be pretty important seeing how you went yourself even though you are tired” Derib asked and he shook his head“don’t bother yourself, its insignificant” he replied heading inside“But you seems to be curious about something” Derib insisted and he turned to him in anger“Are you done making the bed?” he asked“Yes, my Lord” Derib nodded“What of my bath water?” he questioned further“It’s ready” Derib answe
The previous day, Elora and others were assigned to the spices section in the kitchen where they were to pick, ground and dry necessary herbs for the spices. She went with the crew of new faces since Ore and Alexa were not assigned with her, they were assigned to the clothes making section for the Prince since it will be the hunting season soon and the Prince has to wear new clothes for the hunting. She silently picked the herbs and other plants that were given to her after the procedures has been explained to her and finished her own part, grounded it and dried them on the tray she was given. She was busy helping the chef in the kitchen when one of them walked up to her to ask for a favour“Will you be staying here for long? Or are you leaving soon?” the girl asked and she firstly looked around to be sure she was talking to her before she proceeded to respond to her“Me? are you talking to me?” she asked and the maid nodded to confirm“I will be here as long as they are cooking becau
She was pulled along by the maids at each sides to follow the lady so there was no even time for her to protest or run away. She only managed to give her basket of clothes a safe landing so the clothes there wouldn't be thrown to the floor. The lady got out of their quarters and entered into the concubines' quarters before heading for her own personal room"bring her in" she instructed and sat on the chair in her room with her legs wide openedThe over obedient maids threw her to the floor at her feet and she motioned to them to leave the room so she could talk to her alone"You, what is your name?" she asked looking into Elora's eyes"Elora is my name" Elora replied trying to catch her breathe since she was dragged and that had drained her stamina within a short period, she couldn't blame herself for that since she has a weak system to begin with"So I am asking you, what did you see yesterday?" the lady asked finally crossing her legs"My lady, I don't know what you are talking abou
“The second Prince?” she asked once again and Ore nodded“There is a second Prince? How come no one ever made mention of him all these while?” she asked with her eyes as wide as a big panda’s eyes“We don’t mention him because we dare not, he doesn’t live in the palace but he comes once in a year which is during the royal hunting, his presence is always overwhelming” Ore narrated“His presence is overwhelming as how and why does he not stay in the palace?” she questioned further getting interested in what her roommate was telling her“You sure are a curious cat. He doesn’t stay in the palace because he hates the palace so much which I don’t know why and also his presence is overwhelming because he is much more brutal than the first Prince, he doesn’t have mercy at all, so merciless” Ore explained to her and she gasped“No mercy at all?” “I’m telling you, he doesn’t forgive any act of mistake no matter how little. A maid once cooked and the wool of her cloth got into it, he had the m
“Don’t try anything, don’t even move close to him! He’s the definition of evil and brutal” was the word that kept ringing in her head as she paced up and down the room thinking how he could be the second Prince because he looked nothing like one ever since he has been seeing him“Well it’s understandable because he fits the position of being brutal” she muttered to herself“but why are you so concerned about him being the Prince? Do you have any history with him beforehand?” Ore asked noticing her restlessness“Have any history with him? How can I have one with someone like him? What are you talking about?” she quickly snapped defending herself“you don’t have to snap that hard, its only making it more suspicious” Alexa remarked with a chuckle and Ore snorted“You both enjoy joking with me right? I said we don’t have any history” she said rolling her eyes“and we didn’t say anything too” they both replied trying to hold back their laughterShe went to her bed to lie down for a while b
Prince Jaqen saw all that Lady Gaia did to Elora but he was not bothered since they had no connection and he had always minded his business in the palace since he was not on good terms with any of them, even his own father. He stopped with them to rest and Derib was so glad that they declared rest because he was extremely tired from all the walking and Jaqen who noticed that he was tired instructed him to rest by sleeping against a big tree around the area.He brought a small book from the pouch of his garment and began to flip through the pages as he rested on the blanket Derib already laid for him earlier“I need some fruits” he muttered to himself and glanced at Derib who was already snoring with his back on the tree“He sleeps like a log of wood” he added as he stood up and went to the guards staying at the other side“Are there any fruits here? I feel like having one” he asked and they all scurried to answer him because they know what he was capable of doing“If you tell us the f
Alpha Jaqen and Derib set out to make plans to find Falkor wherever he might have ran to before he starts to cause havoc on the pack. “Do you think we can find out their hideouts?” he asked Derib “The last time I visited the hideout, they were talking about how the silver they were making will be the last batch and they will be joining others” Derib revealed “So do you think we can find the others? Don’t you think we should plant a spy amidst them?” he asked tapping his leg on the floor anxiously “If you want, I can go in myself to get any information you need” Derib offered “Your face is known by almost everyone, won’t you get caught at this rate?” he asked “I just have to be careful and everything will work out because it’s not like they can know every of their soldiers” Derib said and Alpha Jaqen sighed before Obi came in “The famine has started, everyone has started lamenting for food. What should we do about the storage?” Obi asked as he brought the ledgers the late Alpha h
The elders set an emergency meeting after the whole fight in the palace and they discussed about what to do about the rebels and the punishments to dish out according to their crimes. “I cannot believe something like this happened in this palace, we don’t even know what the truth is anymore. This is shocking, tiring and exhausting, it happened so suddenly that I can’t even wrap my head around it” Elder Kinn said with a heavy sigh “I am glad the Alpha told us all these before he died, imagine if we didn’t find out and they killed the real Prince of the pack. We would have had to deal with the tyranny of the Alpha, Luna and Beta and that will cause a great havoc on the pack” Elder Simeon added “We are not sure if Prince Falkor is not a real Alpha as claimed, we have to be sure before we point fingers and judge. I mean we never can tell because what if the late Alpha was mistaken?” Elder Fang countered “So are you saying the Alpha lied to make us disqualify the first Prince? What abou
As Elora was busy waiting for Jaqen to return from his trip, the goddess knew that her time to leave Elora was near and the fight for the throne will begin soon since both Princes will be on each other’s neck when Prince Jaqen returns from the trip of going to find a shaman that will heal the Alpha who is terribly sick. The goddess also knew that Prince Jaqen can never find a shaman no matter how he tries because after the death of Elora’s mother, Arya, the goddess that was supposed to possess any shaman and give them power was residing in Elora itself and it had refused to unveil itself because of Elora’s safety and the promise she was supposed to fulfil on her behalf. The main reason why Elora was the one chosen to be the one to help Prince Jaqen was that when Arya was still young and living in the same place with Queen Eleanor, Jaqen’s mother, Arya got into trouble with one of the chiefs living in the town one night.Since Arya was a beautiful woman, she was loved by many men in th
Prince Falkor told the head maid that the straws in the farm at the yard should be picked as early as possible and she should assign some maids to them quickly.“My Alpha, the maids are extremely busy trying to restore the palace to its normal state because everything has been disorganized because of the ceremony that was just concluded” The head maid replied“You mean all the maids in the palace are working right now?” he asked raising his brows“Yes My Alpha, they are all occupied with one thing or the other so can you wait a little bit?” she said politely“I heard Jaqen is out of the palace, why is his maid not joining others to work?” he asked“He had ordered for his maid to stay at his room till he comes back and that means she cannot work until he commands her to join others because she is his personal maid and that is allowed according to the rules of the palace” she explained“I am the Alpha here, the leader of the pack so I have the power to make her work right?” he said with
THE PREVIOUS NIGHTAfter Elora left the Alpha’s chamber, the king managed to visit Prince Jaqen’s chamber in the midnight without anyone knowing. He had been feeling so weak that he knew that he would die at any moment from now so he wanted to finish everything before it was too late.“I didn’t expect you would visit me so late in the night, you should have called me over to your chamber instead of coming over here since you are so sick” he said as he helped him have his seat“It’s not like you will come at your own free will if I called you over and also my visit here is something that no one must find out so don’t bother to bicker, I want my discussion with you tonight to be fast as soon as possible” Alpha Ren remarked“What brought you here this late at night? I hope it’s nothing much though” he asked as he settled in front of him“Jaqen, before I start anything I want to ask you a very important question and I want you to be sincere with me. It is okay to say your mind because I j
The Luna once heard a ridiculous rumor that Lady Gaia and Prince Falkor were having affairs and she decided to look into it. She finally confirmed it but decided to leave them so she would be able to use it against them someday. When she found out that she was pregnant from her spy, she decided the day for usage is nearer and planned to disgrace her but after thinking it through, she knew that it will affect her son, Prince Falkor one way or the other so she quit the idea and was looking for how to punish her until she heard she would be leaving the palace. She invited the Beta and told him her plan“So what do you plan on doing? It’s not like she will allow herself to be disgraced and that is the reason why she’s leaving the palace” Beta Loras remarked“I understand that she wants to give birth to the baby outside the palace and then come back as if nothing happened. The Alpha is already so weak and sick, it means the fight for the throne will soon start. I cannot allow anything to b
For three months, Lady Gaia was playing a safe game of hiding her pregnancy but it was not easy for her since the symptoms were very bad and evident in her. She thought about aborting the baby but she was also happy the same time that she will be giving birth for the first time in her life.“This is the very first time I will be a mother, I cannot abort this pregnancy” she muttered to herself as she rubbed her bellyAfter seeing how her belly was slightly protruding and the pregnancy was at the verge of showing forth, she planned to leave the palace and go back to her mother. She planned to stay there till she gives birth and then leave the child there. She thought about informing Prince Falkor but with his recent attitudes towards her, she swat the thoughts away and just decided to disguise. She got up the next morning and went to visit the Alpha who was still on his bed“It has been a long time I saw you walking around the palace so I wondered what was wrong” she said as she moved c
Elora left the room and Derib moved closer to inform Prince Jaqen of what was going on at the secret hideout of Beta Loras. He had gone to survey again during the time the Prince and Elora were busy talking about themselves.“I went back to the site again and found something interesting” Derib started“You went back? You didn’t even tell me you were going” Prince Jaqen questioned“I went back when you both were talking and I happened to find out something interesting” Derib said“Something interesting? What is that?” Prince Jaqen asked and motioned for him to come closer and have his seatDerib sat down opposite to Prince Jaqen and adjusted his clothes before he proceeded with informing him about what he saw at the hideout“I happened to see them transporting the silver they stored over time and followed them only to find the final piece to our puzzle” he added“The final piece to our puzzle? Don’t you think it’s time for you to speak in a language that I can understand?” Prince Jaqen
Derib didn’t mention anything about the letter to him again since he already declined the invitation flatly and if he tried to talk him into it, he will flare up which will only cause unnecessary tension.Even though Prince Jaqen didn’t talk about the letter, he secretly wanted to go but his pride was too important for him so he decided to just fight the feeling off. He picked up his sword and went for training with his master at the yard.He got there and found him sitting at the step by the right side and walked up to him to notify him of his presence“Have your seat, let us discuss some things before we start practice for today” his master said and he took his seat beside him“Do you like living here? It is not too cornering and frustrating for you?” his master asked facing him“Cornering and frustrating as how?” he asked to be sure of the answer to give“I mean you don’t have any friends here except your bodyguards and the other monks. You are a Prince but you are not living like
