2024-10-29 19:42:56I jolted awake as my cell door opened up. Mary stepped in and had a tray with her. She placed it on my cot as I sat up and rubbed the sleep from my eyes. Mary had sat down on the other end of the cot and dangled her legs as she waited for me to eat. I saw scrambled eggs, toast and some lumpy looking stuff which I am assuming it is oatmeal.
Grabbing the mush, I leaded against the wall and began to eat.
“Can I ask you a question? Mary asked quietly
“Go for it” I said between bites
“You don’t have to answer, I am just curious.” Mary said as she played with the loose string on her shirt. I waited patiently for her to decide if she wanted to ask or not. “I overheard the council men talking last night. They were talking about you and how you are suppose to be our queen but instead you are under their mercy. I just I am wondering why you don’t just put them in their place?” She asked nervously.

I drifted in and out of consciousness catching glimpse of the events around me. Every time I started to see things again, the pain of all my broken bones and injuries came back full force pushing me back into darkness. It was all I could do to even catch the glimpse of what was happening. Mary had been caring me, basically, as we ran to the check point. I remember watching her fall down and yell out in pain but I could remember from what. Justin’s face was something that jogged my memory as well. He was running towards us as someone from behind him was covering him with gunfire. Next thing I know, I am in the back of a vehicle on my back and my shirt was ripped open. The cold air attacked my open wounds. I hear the whimpers of Mary somewhere beside me. Looking around, and not being able to find her was hard. Was I imagining that? Or was it me that was whimpering? As the doctor left the room, Wyatt walked over to the couch and lifted up a bag and brought it to me. “I packed this for you. I knew you would wake up eventually so I came prepared.” He said like it wasn’t a big deal. “Oh, thank you!” I grabbed the bag and unzipped it. Bumping out the context of the bag revealed a pair of black shorts and a baggy t-shirt. The shorts were mine, they stopped about an inch below my ass but the shirt was his. I held it up to him with a questioning expression. Wyatt looked down and shrugged his shoulders. “I saw the injuries you have, I figured a baggy shirt was good so it didn’t rub against any of them. You have a decent cut under your breast so a bra was out of the question.” Using my index finger, I motioned for him to come closer. I felt the bed shift and causing me to roll on my back. Groaning, peeking through my eye lids, Wyatt was trying to be quiet as he answered a phone call. Blackness was all I saw. No lights, no sounds or feelings. Just blackness. The scent of steak attacked my nose causing all my other senses to awaken. This is my first ever book I have written and I really have learned a lot. I know the grammer and punctuation may not have been perfect but I will continue to get better and more knowledgable. I am currently working on a second book that I will hopefully post soon. I need to get a few more chapters written before I can publish it. I have read a few comment asking for a sequal to this book. A few days have gone by and it is time to lay our loved ones to rest. I had decided that I will get everything done in one day so after the funerals, we will be doing the trials as well. If I am going to get emotionally exhausted, might as well do it all in one day. I am not sure I will ever be okay with funerals and death but it is part of my job and my life now so I should probably embrace it. I was packing what I needed to take home. Wyatt and I walked hand in hand back toward the packhouse. Neither one of us said a word, just walked with our army behind us. I let all the emotions swarm around me as I let what just happened sink in. The pitch black of the night mirrored our feelings as a whole.
