"He's really not going to wake up, is he?" Dex said, poking Eric's cheek again. He was astonished by how hard of a sleeper Eric is.

"Yeah. Once he's out, he's out." I laughed. "Listen Dex." I paused fidgeting with my fingers. "I'm really sorry I doubted you. I should have known you wouldn't manipulate Eric. He just got so attached so fast. It was stupid of me. Please forgive me."

I looked him dead in the eyes letting him know how much I trusted him right now. He stared back at me for a moment. His eyes were intense and at first I wasn't sure what he was going to do. He sighed and looked away.

"Yeah. Okay. I forgive you Ember, but on one condition." He had that stupid smirk on his face again. He was back to his flirtatious self now. "Give me a kiss right here." He pointed to his cheek.

I gave him a 'you're kidding me' face. I shook my head no.

"No way." I whispered to him.

"Oh well guess you'll have to live without my forgiveness." He shrugged his shoulders leaning back on the he

We had made it back to the palace without anyone knowing we left. At least that's what I thought until I made it to my room and Toni opened his door. "Why were you with him again? Where were you?" Toni all, but yelled at me. His eyes were that cool silver and my heart froze. "We can find Ash now. Dex took me to see a man who could help." I explained calmly. I was hoping Toni would calm down with that. He growled instead. "What man?" He didn't believe me. "His name is Jaime. His some siren guy." "He took you to see Jaime?" It seems Toni knows that is. "He's fucking dangerous. Ember, what did you give him?" "Nothing bad. Just something he wanted from Lien." He stepped forward, but I took a step back. His eyes hadn't returned to normal and his voice was sounding less like himself. "Toni, let's talk about this in the morning." I wanted him to calm down. I started to go into my room. Before I could close the door fully, Toni pushed it open. He came into my room and his eyes roamed

I woke up in the clinic bed. Mom was moving around the room quickly, grabbing random things she needed. Dex was holding my hand, looking pained. His eyes were pink, like he had been crying. "Good, you're awake." Mom's sweet tone broke my attention away from Dex. "How are you feeling?" I went to speak, but nothing came out. My throat was hurting so bad. It felt raw, like I swallowed shards of glass. "Here." Dex handed me a cup of water. I took a sip, but it stung as it went down. I could feel Talia and Lien slowly healing our wounds. My hip and wrists were bruised and I can only imagine what my neck looks like. "Where's Toni?" I manage to croak out. My voice sounded terrible. "Don't worry about him." Mom sighed as she looked me over. "He's not okay." I tried to explain what I saw, but my throat hurt too much to speak all at once. "Yeah, no kidding." Dex looked down at my throat as if it were physically hurting him to see. I shook my head no."Dark magic." I tried to explain aga

"Hold him down!" Dad yelled to Charles. The wind was blowing hard around us even though we were in a room with a closed door. The darkness was being sucked out, but it was fighting hard. Toni's fist connected with Eryn's eye, but Eryn kept hold of his other hand. Charles grabbed the free hand and held it down. Dex was grabbing one of Toni's legs and Dad was on the other. I had the crystal flat against his chest. "Eryn, try to calm him." Mom called out. Eryn's magic filled the room with a calming aura but it didn't seem to affect Toni. He was sti wriggling around beneath me. He wanted to escape. His eyes were that cool silver letting me know Toni was no longer in control. His teeth were sharp and his claws had extended. "Keep going, Ember!" Dad yelled through the harsh wind. The crystal's center was swirling with darkness, quickly turning it into light. It felt like an eternity, but It seemed like it was almost done. The wind had started to die down and Toni's body had stilled. Hi

Dex stayed true to his word and didn't give Toni or I a moment alone. Mom had me sleep with Eric. I think she was worried for us all and wanted me to be there for Eric. Toni slept in that room alone and Dex slept in a guest room next to Eric's. Eric was still pretty attached to Dex for some reason. I am not sure what Dex did or said to Eric to have such an effect on him. I think it's kind of cute, but also worrisome. Eric really was a worse sleeper than I. I woke up so many times to a heel in the stomach. He kicked, tossed and turned and hogged all the blankets. Eventually, I gave up and slept on the floor. I thought of Ash and our sleepovers. I am so ready to get him back. I hope he hasn't succumbed to his darkness too much. I woke up to a light knock on the door. Mom had stepped in quietly and woke me up. She looked dressed and ready, which made me wonder what time it was? Did I oversleep? I quietly followed her out of the room. We were careful not to wake Eric. "Everyone is her

Ash's hand reached for the crystal. Grandad Artie's hand grabbed Ash's wrist, stopping him from reaching me. He lifted it up and pushed Ash back. Ash let out a low growl and extended his claws. None of us have fully shifted yet. We were all trying to win this without shifting. I can't exactly place the crystal on him as a wolf or dragon. "Now Ash, that's not how we treat our siblings. You're mother has taught you better than that." Grandad was trying to be amusing, but it only added to Ash's irritation. I got up on my feet now. Ash has knocked me on my ass twice now. I, on the other hand, have yet to land a decent punch or kick on him. He wasn't kidding when he said I wouldn't win this one. His fighting skills have improved so much that I would think years have passed, not just a week. I'm going to save him though. Larminiel and Grandpa Stoic made their way to us now. They had gotten by the fire faster than Ash had thought. We all took turns trying to knock Ash down. Grandpa stoic

I had to focus hard as I heard mom yell out in pain again. I wanted to be by her side with our fathers. I am not sure what's going on, but I know I can't look away from Ash. Ash is murderous right now. He's like a cornered rabid animal. He'll do whatever it takes to escape us. We circled one another. I coated my skin with Lien's dragon scales and extended Talia's teeth and claws out. I saw Toni, Gabe, and Peregrine make their way to me from across the beach. They seemed to have finished their fights. Tyler and Tate were tending their injuries, but they had successfully subdued their opponents. It seems these girls were more than just pretty. They all knew how to fight and they were all different species of supernaturals. Ash had surrounded himself well. Mom yelled in pain again. I just wanted this to be over. We need to be by her side. We need to help with Charlie. "Ash, please, look at mom. Something is going on with Charlie. We need to help her. Let me save you, Ash. Come back to

"Ember, goddess. Ember, please wake up." Ash's voice was choked with tears. It was breaking with emotions. "Ash?" My eyes struggled to open. "Oh thank you, goddess." He held me tightly against his chest. "Ember, I am so sorry. I am so sorry. You don't know how sorry I am. I will forever pay for this. Don't worry. I won't stay here. I won't stay where you can see me. Not after what I did." He was talking so fast and sobbing into me. What is he going on about? "Ash, you're squeezing me too tight." I muttered and he lightened his grip on me. "I'm sorry." He said again. His eyes were puffy and red. He had been crying for a while. My Ash was back. My twin was back. I started crying, so happy to have him here. I wrapped my arm around his neck and hugged him tightly. I cried with him for a while before finally pulling back. Everything that happened suddenly rushed into my head. I looked around for the first time since waking up. We weren't at the beach anymore. We were back home in the

Dex's P.O.V. She wouldn't stop screaming and crying long enough for her wounds to heal. She was writhing in pain and no matter who tried she couldn't be comforted. Ash was a ball of guilt and regret. He hated himself right now so he was useless. He couldn't calm, Ember. Not when he was the one that caused her this pain. "Dex, please. You need to make her forget." Nate asked me. He was hurting for his daughter. "It won't last long. The mate bond isn't something easy to forget." I warned him. "I'm not even sure if I can." "Please try." His eyes were red from crying. He almost experienced this pain today when his mate was on the beach. She almost lost her baby, but thankfully I was able to open the portal in time. Charles had saved them both. This pain is said to be the worst imaginable both physically and emotionally. My eyes watered as I watched her shatter from the inside. I always wished I would get a chance to be with her. I never wished Toni dead for that to happen though. "

"That's it, Ember. Just one more push!" The doctor called out to me. Dex held my right hand and my angel held my left. They both lifted me up more as I pushed with all the strength I had left in me. I heard cry as they suctioned the fluid free of her mouth. That sound is indescribable, tears welled in my eyes with the pure joy of having her here with us now. "You did great. Thank you for bringing our daughter into this world, sunshine." Dex whispered in my ear before kissing my sweaty forehead without a care. His eyes were pink and glistening with tears. I could see the love and pure admiration mirrored in them as he looked down at our sweet Nova, that was now placed in my arms. "She's beautiful, mi amor. You're amazing." Toni kissed the top of my head next. The three of us stared down at Nova's beautiful small features. She made the smallest little noises in complaint of being pushed out of me and into this cruel world. I'll make it safe for you Nova, I promise. She had the rounde

Toni had me laying sweetly beneath him. His eyes held such a deep love for me. His gaze was undoing me long before his touches were. He kissed me tenderly, wrapping his fingers in my hair. His thumb caressed my jaw lightly, sending a warmth flowing through me."Toni." I whispered his name, a silent plea to feel him even closer. There's not enough time, not enough of him to make up for the last decade, but I am damn well going to try. I felt like this missing piece of me was finally put back in place by Toni. "Make me yours again." He kissed me with such intensity. He stole the breath from my lungs and the soul from my body. I was all his and I refuse to leave this bedroom until he's claimed me as his again. I pulled his shirt off, breaking our kiss for just a moment. His muscles were just as toned as they had been when we were younger. There was some of Sam in his body, so it wasn't exactly the same, and yet it was perfect all the same. "I love you, mi amor. Ember's P.O.V."Why did you come, mi amor? You could have been hurt, or the baby could have." His voice was soft, but his tone was firm. My mind was still reeling with emotions. This is Toni. Suddenly everything about my feelings towards Sam just seemed to make sense and I wanted to slap myself for not noticing it sooner. How could I have not thought about it? "Ash had a vision and he told me you were in trouble. So we all came to help. Lucy cast a protection spell over Nova to keep her safe within me. She did consume some of my magic though, so I'll need to see the doctor. It wasn't enough to make me too weak though." I bit my lip, feeling guilty about putting her in danger. "Ash told me he saw Toni here too. He saw you and we rushed over. Why didn't you tell me?" I punched his arm, furious at how he made me think I had lost him again. "I couldn't." He lightly rubbed my cheeks with Sam's calloused hands. "I am sorry, mi amor. If I had told you they woul

Sam's P.O.V.I followed Evelyn out past the barrier of the kingdom. My heart was beating a mile a minute and my hands were clammy beyond belief. In the next 30 minutes I'll be fighting for my life and getting the greatest gift I could have…my angel half. The wind was blowing harshly outside the barrier and the freezing temperature seeped deep into my bones. The wind stung my face and blew snow into my eyes, forcing me to look down in order to see. Evelyn led the way as if this freezing weather wasn't a factor in her mind at all. Nothing phases her, she could be on fire and she would still be walking like nothing is happening. When she's focused on keeping me safe she has nothing else on her mind. She's locked in. "We'll do this here. I'll start setting up the wards. You need to start engraving the ruins on your chest. Do you remember how?" She asked, handing me the flaming dagger. "Yeah, hard to forget." I took the dagger fr

Yesterday came and went and today was Sam's birthday already. I still can't believe how young he is. I groaned at the sun's blinding rays as we all gathered outside in celebration. Ash was kind and with the help of Eric and Lucy, who stopped by today to visit, they set up a small party for Sam. It was just us, nothing big or involving all the citizens here. It was small and intimate and a way for Ash to thank Sam for all he's done. Without him and his sister my brother wouldn't be having this child with Layla right now. I owe them both a lot too and I'll be sure to find a way to repay them both in the future. "Happy birthday, Sam." I told him for about the third time now. It seemed to be the only thing I could say to him. I didn't want to say anything more. I didn't want to start flirting with him or getting to know him better. He'll be leaving tomorrow and I need to be ready to let him go. "Thanks, Ember." He gave me a sma

Dex's words had rung through my head all day. How I may need Sam. How I shouldn't send him away. Is there really a bond? And if there really is, do I really want to open myself up to it? I also can't seem to get past this damn guilt eating away at me. I shouldn't be thinking of Sam. My heart should be fixed solely on Dex, and only him. Now that Toni has left me completely, there's this fissure in my heart wanting to be filled. Sam could fill it easily, but is that really the right choice? It may be easier to accept it, but I don't know that I want to. He's not Toni, no matter how much I wish him to be. The fact he has Toni's memories still bothers me deeply. Every now and again I'll get another glimpse of them through Sam and it kills me. He refuses to tell me why he has them. It's been making me trust him less the more he denies me the truth. I don't understand how he could have Toni's memories. "Where's your mind?" Ash's voice pulled me back from my thoughts. We had flown togeth

The next few days seemed to fly by. Gabriel was back at school and Dex was at my side all day. At night I would have the same recurring nightmare of the day Ash killed Toni. Having lost him again seems to have resurfaced everything I thought I had healed from. Sam and Evelyn kept their distance for the most part, although it seemed like Sam really wanted to be at my side. I sort of missed him, which still doesn't make sense to me. I barely know the man. I attribute this feeling to the fact he looks so much like Toni. He's like this thorn sent by the universe to remind me of what I am missing. Fuck you universe. "You alright, sunshine?" Dex raised an eyebrow at me. "Yeah, just thinking." I chewed on my cheek refusing to tell Dex that I was missing another man. That's ridiculous. "Let me in, Ember. What's going on?" He stroked my cheek lightly with his knuckle. His touch sent those wonderful electric sparks flying through my skin. "I just miss Toni and Sam looking so much like him

Gabriel and Dex and I spent the entire day in bed as promised. We watched movies, played games, and spoke about many things. Dex and I kept trying to get Gabriel to understand, but he refused. He kept telling us that we would see what he was talking about soon. This day was certainly something I needed. Dex always gives me just what I need even when I don't know what that is. Gabriel was taking his bath in our bathroom now, leaving Dex and I alone for the first time today. "I saw Sam was here with you last night." My heart stilled. Is he upset? Is he jealous? Is he worried? "Yeah, Ash had to-" I paused, realizing I never checked on him and Layla. Damn me and my selfish heart. "I need to call him!" I quickly reached for my phone. "What's wrong?" Dex furrowed his brows, sitting up with me. "I don't know. He left yesterday saying Layla needed him shortly after he got here." The phone rang as I spoke. "Hello?" Ash's voice came through. "Ash, oh my gosh, I am so sorry I didn't call

"Ember, I have to leave you so I can care for our son. I'll return with him soon. I'll tell Ash to come over." He told me. "I won't let you be alone right now." He pulled his phone out and called Ash. He told Ash everything. I could hear Ash say he was on his way. "I won't leave until he gets here." Dex tried to comfort me."It's getting late. You need to go to him before he falls asleep. Ash is coming. I will be okay until then." I tried convincing him. I could tell he wanted to argue though. "He needs to say goodbye. He needs the chance to say it. You need to go." He very reluctantly got off the bed. He gave me one last kiss before leaving. My heart was breaking all over again. The small glue that held it together was coming undone. I was loudly sobbing again. The door opened, letting small light flood the room. "Ash?" I cried o
