The day passed by quickly. Dex, Gabriel and I spent it exploring and playing. We soaked up as much of the sun and good weather as we could. Dex even packed us a picnic. He's always so thoughtful and full of surprises. "Ready to go home?" Dex asked Gabriel after pushing him for the 100th time on the swing. "Awe, no. I wanna keep playing." Gabriel pouted. "The sun is starting to set Gabriel. We need to get home." Dex's tone was firm, but still gentle. Gabriel sighed, lowering his head slightly. He is so cute, it's hard to tell him no. Dex picked him up and put him over his shoulders. Gabriel squealed excitedly. "I'm so tall up here." He giggled. "Gabriel! When did you get so big?" I joked. "Mommy." He giggled. "I'm not this tall. I'm just on top of daddy." "Oh, I see. I was wondering where daddy went." Dex gave me a quick kiss before leading us all back home. I walked behind, watching his and Gabriel's backs. The two most important guys in my life right now. I don't know how I
We made it inside the wards by the skin of our teeth. I looked around seeing many people injured, crying and scared. There were people wailing in pain as they held their gashing wounds. Dex had Gabriel's head tucked in his chest. We were shielding him from what we could. Although I know these screams will haunt him, at least the images won't."Ember!" I heard Aunt Star's familiar voice from the crowd. I found her knelt down helping people. "Oh God, your little one. Take him inside with the other children. All the injured are out here." Star directed us inside. "Wait, Aunt Star." I grabbed her wrist. "Here, have people who are injured eat these. They will heal them." I handed her 5 ice marbles I was able to make quickly. "I'll keep making them if you want to come back for more when those are gone." "You're definitely your mother's daughter." She scoffed as she ran back out. I looked around inside. The children were all staring at the floor traumatized. Not a single child was playing
We were cleaning up the damage from the attack earlier today. Sadly Mom, and Eryn had to return home. They knew that the kingdom would be scared after hearing about what happened here. Dex took them in the portal and we decided it would be best if Gabriel stayed with them for a little while until things settled down here. I don't like him not being here, but I liked him being in harm's way less. Dad gladly took the responsibility of taking Kaitlyn to the council. He never did like her.Sam had apparently helped in the fight. He felt responsible for the attack, having been the one that killed Zain. Ash wouldn't let Sam take the blame though. He told him what he did was the right thing. Ash holds no grudges, and neither does Larminiel."None of this would have happened if I hadn't killed him." Sam argues again. "Oh my gosh, Sam. You didn't do anything wrong. If you start thinking that way then we could just blame Zain for the attack. If he hadn't attacked me then you
It was odd being home without Gabriel. Dex comforted me and kept me entertained throughout the night…in ways only he can. I am not going to lie, it was nice to sleep in for once. The sun was angrily shining into my room. Accusing me of wasting the day. I lazily got out of bed. Dex had gotten up hours ago now. I don't know how he can be such a morning person even when he gets very little sleep. I remembered to take my vitamins before leaving the room this time. "Good morning, sleepyhead." Dex smiled at me as I took my last step off the stairs. "Good morning." I flashed him a sarcastic grin. "Oh come on, Sunshine. You can't still be tired after sleeping the morning away, can you?" He grabbed my wrist pulling me towards him. Those stormy gray eyes kept me entrapped in his gaze. "I sure can." I stuck my tongue out at him, playing. Dex stuck his out at me as well. I couldn't help the smirk he caused.
We went to Ash's house with a definite pep in our step. I feel a little guilty for wanting to show these ultrasound pictures to Ash and Layla. Hopefully soon they'll have their own bundle of joy to gush over. "Twinkie!" Ash's voice came from behind me. I turned to find him jogging up to us. He was covered in dust from all the rubble. He shook like a dog in front of me causing a large dust cloud to fly off him. I coughed, waving away the air in front of me. "Gods, Ash." Another cough escaped. "You need a shower." He let out a deep chuckle."You think so?" He joked. "Were you coming to see me?""Yes. Look at your niece, but don't touch till you're clean." I teased him, holding the strip of pictures out in front of me for him to see. "Is that a fin?" His eyes bulged, but the corners of his lip stayed lifted happily. "Yes it is. She's part siren afterall." Dex answered him proudly. I couldn't help the smirk that crossed my face. "That's amazing guys!" Ash went to hug me, but I steppe
We had gathered everything in front of Lucy. She stirred it all up in her little travel cauldron. She had tied her hair back out of the way revealing her beautiful face. She had sharp string features. Her skin was a beautiful white with a kind of peachy undertone. She was about 5'10 or 5'11. It's a good thing Eric is so tall. She focused on her work and chanted some odd language. When she was done she poured it all in a cup and handed it to Ash. "Drink up." She told him. Ash gulped, eyeing the neon green liquid in front of him. He took it quickly, swallowing it down with a lot of effort. He let out a groan of disgust when he was done. Layla squeezed his shoulders from behind him. She was emotional. How could she not be? "Did it work?" Ash asked Lucy. "Are you doubting my work?" She arched her eyebrow. "I didn't mean-" Ash fumbled with his words. "I'm only kidding." She interrupted Ash. "It worked, I promise. Here." She waved her hands around us and a large bubble hung around us
Sam's P.O.V.She's so beautiful, even draped in another man's arms. All I see is her pure heart and abundance of love. She makes me want to love just as deeply. I've never met someone like her before. Someone that has been through a lot of darkness, but stayed pure. I know Lucy is going to scold me when she gets the chance. I didn't tell her Ember was married or pregnant. I just told her about Ember. I didn't mean to honestly, but I couldn't seem to stop talking about her once I started. "You really like this girl, don't you?" She had asked me on the phone when I had called her yesterday. "It's that obvious, isn't it?" I sighed. "Extremely. I haven't heard you talk this way about a girl since Jenna." She teased me. Jenna was an ex-girlfriend now. I thought I would marry her one day, but she freaked when she found out I wasn't human."She's just so amazing, Lucy. She's so caring and sweet. She's b
Ember's P.O.V."Where's Sam?" I asked Dex, after Eric and Lucy left. It had been a few minutes now since I saw him. I thought he was following behind Lucy, but he never came in. "I'm here." Sam smiled at me, but when he stepped through there was someone behind me. "Guys, this is Evelyn." He introduced the absolute beauty behind him. This woman was gorgeous. I thought elves were beautiful, but clearly angels have the upper hand. Her wings were tucked tightly behind her, as they began to recede back into her. Her gaze was sharp and her arms crossed. She was not friendly. She eyed me carefully, before wrapping herself around Sam's arm. I was caught off guard and my chest tightened at her act. Is Sam taken? Is this beauty wrapped around him a girlfriend I didn't even know he had. It doesn't matter, it doesn't involve me. Good, he has a girlfriend. He should. He's handsome and sweet and he should have someone to lo
