Chapter 4: The Change Of Plans

Tory sat down and waited for her mate as she sat on the bed. She was anxious to hear what the Alphas decided regarding Reid. Most importantly, she wants to know if it is true that Reid actually launched the attack on the pack. 

She smelled her mate even before he got to their room and she rushed towards the door. He was about to open the door when she did and she bombarded him with questions immediately. 

“How was it?” She asked.

He sighed and entered. “He did it”, he said with hurt lacing his voice.

Tory sighed and pulled him closer. She could feel he is hurt through their mate bond. “Come here”, she said and hugged him tight.

He closed his eyes and hugged her back. If anyone had told him a long time ago that his friend, Reid would betray him, he would have given the person the most painful death. But his friend did betray him and its hurt.

“I just can’t believe it”, he told his mate. “He didn’t even feel remorseful about it.”

She just listened without saying anything. Only hugging him and letting him know that she is there and not going anywhere.

“He did it because the goddess didn’t give him an elemental. His initial plan was to kidnap you and take our babies. That bastard.”

Tory could feel anger running through her veins like it would make her burst. She then realized it’s his anger. He was angry and she hugged him tighter to make him calm down. When mates are angry, they can easily calm down when their mates touch them or when they smell their mates.

“You need to calm down, Dwight. Calm down. I’m here”, she said. “Listen to me”, she said and looked into his eyes. “You’ve found out the truth and you’ll punish him like he deserves, okay.”

“I will definitely give him a great punishment”, he said and she hugged him again. “I just can’t believe he tried to harm you and my kids. It’s so surreal.”

“I understand”, she said.

She doesn’t but he didn’t have to tell her that. All he wants is for her to calm him down.

It’s the day for the sentencing and the three Alphas sat down in the study waiting for Dexter who was going to carry out the execution.

“Let me say something”, Ryder said. “Don’t you dare think of sparing that motherfucker. If you do, I will kill him myself”, he said pointing dangerously at Maxwell and Dwight.

“I’m with him on this”, Maxwell said, looking at Dwight as they waited for his response.

“I’m not sparing him”, Dwight said.

The both sighed in relief and leaned in their chairs to continue their wait.

“He’s here, Alpha”, Evan mind linked Dwight. 

“Bring him here”, Dwight mind linked back.

“Yes, Alpha.”

Dwight sighed and faced the other two Alphas. “He’s here”, he said.

“Finally”, Ryder said.

Just immediately, the door opened followed by a very loud growl and made them all cover their ears.

“Hey, man. What the fuck?” Ryder said looking at Dexter who stood at the door. “We get it that you are here but do you have to growl that loud.”

“Sorry about that”, Dexter said. “I just wanted you to know I’m here”, he said and stretched out his hand for a handshake which Ryder took.

Dexter might be a really dangerous man but he’s still like every other wolf. He decided not to join a werewolf pack or a vampire clan not because they won’t accept him but he prefers to be alone. He doesn’t like people meddling in his business and anyone that does, he kills.

“Take a seat, Dexter”, Dwight offered and he did.

“So what is this deal you want to offer”, Dexter asked going straight to business.

“I see you don’t like wasting time, do you?” Maxwell asked.

“I don’t and if you’ll stop wasting my time, tell me why you called me.”

“We want you to kill someone”, Ryder said.

At the mention of the word ‘kill’, Dexter licked his lips. “I like the sound of that. Now who I’m I killing?”, he asked.

“Alpha Reid”, Ryder said.

Dexter raised his eyebrow. “Alpha Reid. You mean the Alpha Reid.”

“The same one”, Dwight said.

“Hmm. That sounds very interesting. For the three of you to sit here and plan a fellow Alpha’s death, it must be an unforgivable offense.”

“It is”, Maxwell said. “He tied to-”

“Oh. I don’t want to hear the details”, Dexter interrupted. “So, what do I get in return?”

“What do you want?” Dwight asked. “Money?”

Dexter chuckled. “You know me, Dwight. I don’t need your money”, he said. 

“Then what do you need?” he asked.

He smiled and leaned back in his chair. “I heard of the Prophesy”, he began. “I want you to promise me that when the need arises, you’ll allow the elementals to help me take down my enemy”, he said.

“And who is you enemy?” Maxwell asked.

“You all know who he is. Don’t pretend you don’t. Y’all know my enemy is Lord Jeffery.”

“That’s ridiculous!” Ryder shouted with a loud growl. “We all know how dangerous Jeffery is and we can’t risk the lives of our unborn pups.”

“I support him”, Maxwell said.

Lord Jeffery is a great vampire clan leader and he is considered one of the most dangerous supernatural that ever lived. Even Dexter was scared of him.

“Well, that’s what I want in return”, Dexter told them.

“This is bullshit”, Ryder said again. “I don’t even want to think you guys will want to consider this offer”, he told his fellow Alphas. “As fathers, we should be protecting our pups not risking their lives.”

Maxwell sighed but didn’t say a thing.

“You guys are just being selfish”, Dexter said. “As I’ve heard, the elementals will be the greatest and most powerful werewolves that will ever live even more powerful than their fathers. Their purpose is to help the werewolf world and the werewolves. In case you’re forgetting, I’m a werewolf too.”

“Half werewolf”, Ryder corrected.

“Whatever”, Dexter said. “I think they should be helping me too.”

“I’m not in support of this”, Ryder said and faced the remaining two Alphas. “We can’t accept this, guys. Think about it. It’s true they are powerful but we can’t risk their future for the present.”

“I’m with him on this”, Dwight said, contributing to the conversation. 

Maxwell nodded and faced Dexter. “I’m sorry but we will have to decline this offer. We can’t risk the lives of our pups”, he said.

Dexter scoffed and stood up. “You guys just wasted my time. This is one of the reasons I don’t associate with you werewolves. You are selfish.”

“We are”, Ryder said. “But for a good cause. We are protecting our pups. So, we should be selfish.”

Dexter only scoffed and walked towards the door. “I’ll see you later”, he said and walked out the door.

“That dude got some nerves”, Ryder said and leaned back in his seat. 

“Now, what do we do?” Dwight asked Maxwell.

“You will have to kill him yourself”, Maxwell said.

“I can help you if you want me to”. Ryder offered.

“No, you can’t”, Maxwell said. “You know it’s against the law. If another person can’t kill, the Alpha he wronged must be the one to do that.”

The door opened with force and Luna Lily entered with fury and tears in her eyes. “What the hell are you guys trying to do?!” she shouted. “Don’t tell me you are trying to kill your childhood friend over such a small mistake. What kind of men are you?!” she shouted as tears slipped from her eyes.

“Small mistake?” Dwight asked and stood up. “You call attacking my pack a small mistake? You call injuring innocent wolves a small mistake? You call trying to kidnap my mate and unborn pups a small mistake. How dare you?!” he shouted. “Who let you in in the first place?”

“I’m sorry, Alpha”, Evan said as he entered. “She forced herself in.”

Dwight’s vein flowed with anger as he looked at her.

She fumed but didn’t say anything.

“We all need to calm down”, Maxwell said and faced Lily. “What are you doing here?”

She growled loudly.

“Hey, calm down”, Maxwell said. “I won’t accept any act of disrespect from you. I’m an Alpha.”

Lily closed her mouth immediately. Even Dwight and Ryder were surprised Maxwell could talk like that.

“I’m sorry”, Lily said and bowed her head. “But please don’t kill my mate. I can’t bear the pain of losing him”, she said and got on her knees taking them by surprise. “At least let me see him”, she begged again.

Maxwell sighed and faced Dwight. “Let her see him. Even if it will be for just some minutes”, he said and Dwight nodded.

“Evan, take her to Reid’s cell”, he said.

“Yes, Alpha’, Evan said and the both of them walked out.

“You know”, Dwight said. “I don’t think killing Reid is the best solution.”

“I knew you were going to go back on your words”, Ryder spat with a little bit of anger. 

“Listen, Ryder”, Dwight said. “It’s true he deserves to die but we shouldn’t just kill him like that. It’s not fair.”

Ryder sighed. “Okay what will you do, then?”

“If we let him go, he might still do something worse. Let’s just put him in exile.”

Maxwell nodded thoughtfully. “I think that’s a good idea.”

“But his mate might go crazy from being away from her mate for a long time.”

“We’ll break their mate bond”, Dwight said. 

“That will be really painful”, Ryder said.

“But it’s the only way. We all know Reid, he will never back down. And we certainly don’t want to risk the lives of our pups. What do you think, max?”

Maxwell nodded. “I agree with you”, he said.

“So, we exile him?” Ryder asked.

“Yes”, Dwight replied.

“I guess that’s settled.”

But is it?

Luna Lily trembled as Evan led her further into the prison.

“Just where did they put him?” she asked.

“In the last cell. He’s a dangerous criminal. So, that’s the cell he deserves”, Evan answered her.

“How dare you talk to an Alpha like that?!” she asked and raised her hands to slap his face but he held her hand.

“I wouldn’t make that mistake if I were you”, he said and looked directly into her eyes. “He’s no longer an Alpha neither are you a Luna. As far as I know, you need to respect me because I’m a Beta as well as a royal.”

She glared at him and removed her hand from his. “It’s really not your fault.”

“Of course it’s not. Blame your mate”, he said and continued walking while she followed silently. 

They finally got to the cell he is and she smiled when she saw her mate. He doesn’t look like he’s been punished a bit. 

“How I wish the Alpha won’t give you a special treatment and allow you to be treated like every other criminal”, Evan said and walked away, giving them some privacy.

“That brat”, Reid spat with anger. 

“Just leave him”, his mate said. “What the hell have you done?” she asked.

“I just wanted to kidnap his mate and steal one of his pups. I never knew they will find out I planned the attack. Those stupid rogues, how dare they mention my name?”

She sighed and held his hand which was wrapped around the iron bars. “What do we do? They are planning on killing you.”

He chuckled. “They won’t. They are just bluffing”, he said. 

“I don’t think they are.”

“If they do kill me, it means that’s what the moon goddess wants. I’ll promise to block out the pain so you won’t feel it.”

She felt tears tickling her eyes. “I can’t bear it if you die.”

“You will have to. You are the strongest Luna, aren’t you?”

“I am. But-”

“Shh. No buts. Just promise you will be strong.”

She looked into his eyes and saw nothing but bravery in them. “I promise.”

He smiled. “That’s my Luna. Now let me tell you a story.”

Dwight sighed as he watched them take Reid away. He was going to be exiled just like the Alphas decided but Dwight isn’t in any way happy about all these. He just hope all this is a dream and Reid is still his friend since childhood. Brave and funny Alpha of war, Alpha Reid. But it’s not a dream. It’s the reality and he needs to face it.  

He turned when he felt a hand on his shoulder and he smiled when he saw his mate. “Hey, babe”, he said and kissed her hand.

“Hey. What are you looking at?” she said and looked out the window too and saw the car in which Reid was in driving away. “Reid”, she said and turned him so he was facing her. “You made the right decision by not killing him.”

“You think I did?” he asked.

She nodded. “You did. You might be an Alpha and one of the most powerful but you have a heart and know what is called humanity. And I really respect you for that.”

He sighed and hugged her. “Thanks for those words. I feel relieved.”

She smiled and patted his back. “That’s what I’m here for”, she said and placed a kiss on his shoulder.

He smiled and suddenly felt her body stiffen and he felt a small pain in his stomach too. “What’s wrong?” he asked her.

“I’ve been having these contractions since this morning. You felt it?”

He nodded.

“Sorry. I blocked out the pain since morning. It seems I already let down the block. I’ll just block it again.”

“No”, he stopped her and placed his hands on either side of her cheeks. “I want to feel every of your pain too. You shouldn’t block me from feeling those pains. And besides. I put those pups in there.”

“but-”, she wanted to say but she felt another pain, this one greater than the last. “Ah”

“That was painful than the former”, Dwight said and she nodded.

Then another contraction.

And another. 

“Shit. I think the babies are coming”, she said and held her stomach.

“Oh goddess. I’ll mind link the pack doctor”, he said and led her to the rom when another contraction hit her. 

“Oh dear goddess”, she said.

The babies were indeed coming.

Alpha Maxwell was signing some papers in his office when he felt a sharp pain in his stomach. He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and he felt another pain. Then he realized the pain doesn’t belong to him but his mate. 

“What’s happening?” he mind linked her but only got a groan in response. He became worried and dropped his pen before running out of the office to check on her.

He entered their room and saw her lying on the bed and her hand on her stomach. She was also covered in sweet. 

“Oh goddess. How long have you been feeling this pain?” he asked. 

“It’s been a while.”

“And why on earth didn’t I feel it before? Why I’m I just feeling it now?”

“I blocked you from feeling it. I’m sorry.”

He sighed and ran his hands through her hair. “I think our son is coming. I’ll call the pack doctor.”

She nodded as she was too tired to say a word.

He mind linked the doctor and ran his hands through her hair.

“I’m here”, he reminded her and she nodded.

Luna Brenda groaned as another pain hit her. “Oh goddess”, she murmured and tried to mind link her mate but his mind link was blocked.

She wondered where he was that he was blocking his mind link and he should be feeling her pains. She tried mind linking again but it was still the same.

She was becoming weaker every second as the pains become more unbearable. 

“Ahhh”, she felt her wolf taking over and she tried to suppress it. She can’t shift. She might hurt the baby if she shifts. 

She mind linked the Beta and he also have a block to his mind link.

“Where the hell are you all?” she shouted hoping someone in the pack house might hear her.

She felt her claws coming out and she tried to suppress the pain. 

“Let me take over”, her wolf crawled at the back of her mind. 

“No, you can’t”, she told her wolf. “We might hurt our pup.”

“But you are in pain. If I take over, I might reduce the pain.”

“But our pup might die”, she said as she tried mind linking the pack doctor. Fortunately, he was available. “Andy?” she called.

“Luna?” he replied. “What’s wrong?”

“I think the baby is coming. I’m in pains and I’m afraid my wolf might take over”, she said as she tried to hold down her wolf who was fighting to take over.

“No, don’t do that. I’ll be there soon.”

She suddenly felt weak and she had no choice but to let her wolf take over.

Alpha Ryder smiled again as he fought another wolf. “Do you still think you can beat me?” he said and helped the wolf up.

The wolf smiled in reply. “I don’t think anyone here is capable of beating you, Alpha. You are the Alpha of power.”

He held his stomach as he felt another pain. He has been feeling pains for some time now and he has no idea what was happening. He shrugged it off and headed to his house. He needs to check on his mate and have a bath because he is covered in sweat.

He was almost at the house when he saw the pack doctor running towards him. 

“Alpha”, he said

“What’s going on, Andy?” he asked.

“The Luna mind linked me. She said the baby is coming and her wolf is about to take over.”

Ryder’s eyes went wide then realized that the pain he has been feeling was coming from his mate. That means she has been trying to mind link him.

“Oh shit”, he said and ran into the house but stopped in his track when he saw his mate’s wolf lying on the floor, breathing faintly. 

He ran and knelt down beside her. “Brenda?” he called. “Brenda, I’m sorry”, he said as he realized what he has done. He might be responsible for his mate’s death or his pup’s or both. 

“Let me check”, Andy said and held her paws. “We need to get her to the hospital now. We need to save her and the pup.”

“Please save the both of them’, he said and held the Doctor’s hand.

“It’s hard but I’ll try”, Andy said.

Ryder knew at that moment that he would forever blame himself if something happens to either of the two.
