Niklaus Dragomir, the 8th Duke of Belikov, was staring out of the room that he was taking a sip of his tea that was laced with blood. He smacked his mouth before his butler was knocking on the door. The door opened and Niklaus was glancing over his shoulder before he was regarding the butler.
"What is it now?" He asked as he was having a hard time keeping track of time when he was supposed to be balancing the ledgers and all that happened with his tenants and trying to keep the food on their table and a roof under their heads.
Belikov's responsibility was included with Royal Molftus, where the Lesser Gentry and the Higher Court resided but they must be sustained and that's where his tenants came to feed the wealthy. He was having the big responsibility to keep the tenants and gentry happy as well as serving the young queen of Niapachad Island as well.
"You have an engagement tonight that you asked me to remind you, Your Grace," the butler said as Niklaus sighed. He rubbed his face with his free hand before he turned to look at the door.
"And what is my engagement exactly?" He asked as the butler was coming into the room and carried a letter. He gave it to Niklaus before the duke opened it and read it. He arched his eyebrow. "A ball?"
"Yes, on behalf of the young queen," the butler said before Niklaus sighed. He waved his hand away before the butler was out of the room. He turned to look at the sunlight that was on the horizon before Niklaus was thinking about the decision of the Higher Court regarding his heritage.
They asked him to find a bride and produce an heir.
Niklaus' grip on the teacup tightened before he was looking at the invitation again. He thought that maybe this was one of the ways that the young queen ensured that she trusted the court to produce their lineage as soon as possible to secure the position. Niklaus put the teacup down before he strode out of the room.
Maybe it was time to secure a bride, he thought.

"Why do you have to make it so tight?" Becca whined as she was trying to breathe through the corset that her lady's maid was tied behind her back.
"Sorry, mum. I don't think that it would be that tight," the maid said as Becca instructed her to loosen it up. "Like this?" The maid asked before Becca was taking a deep breath. She never thought that she would be appreciating to breathe normally through that tight corset. Even if it was for comfort and accentuate her excellent figure.
Like I need anything more of that, she thought.
"Okay, let's get moving, shall we?" Becca said as she was looking at the petticoats, 5 layers that she had to put on and she has to wear the corset cover as well before she can even get into the actual gown that she will be adorning tonight. "I think Lady Georgia was trying to kill me with those clothing," Becca joked before her lady's maid was chuckling. She was standing straight as the maid was taking the first layer of petticoats to be put on her.
"Let the torture begin," she said as she was getting ready for the ball with constant curses in her mind. Not that her lady's maid knows or heard about it, only Becca herself.
After a few hours of perfecting the perfect silhouette of the respected lady as well as the worthy status of her father, Becca was descending the stairs of her father's manor. Her parents were waiting for her downstairs before they gasped at her.
"Oh, Becca darling, you look amazing," her mother compliment her as Becca was smiling, trying to conceal the fact that she was about to fall if she did not balance herself on those shoes.
Those tight and high shoes.
"Well, thank you, I tried my best to look presentable for the ball that I care less," Becca said sarcastically before her mother was glaring at her. Becca smiled before she was greeting her father, Lord Matthew Davis. Their family has been extended to visit someone from the modern world but Lord Matthew refused since they have to leave the island. And they never did, in their entire life. Only Klara, a daughter that Lord Matthew found when she was shipwrecked and raised her like she was his own.
Until she found her way back to the modern world.
"Well, shall we get going? I don't think John Coachman would be patient with us if we don't get moving," Lord Matthew said before the trio was out of the manor. The cold air hit Becca before she was pulling her coat even tighter to her body.
So much for tonight's entertainment, she thought before the carriage was being opened by the footman. Her mother got inside first before her father was helping her to get inside the carriage as she was gathering her lavish green skirts that matched her eyes. Becca just hoped that it would not attract too much attention to her tonight, just like before.
Then, Lord Matthew was inside the carriage before he tapped the roof with his cane and the carriage was moving forward. Becca was looking at her parents before she sighed inwardly. Becca didn't think that tonight will be like any other night, where she would disappear to some secluded area and read.
No, this time, her mother, Lady Georgia Davis was determined to make sure that Becca will land a husband and perhaps with someone wealthy like she matched her sisters. Becca just hoped that one of the Higher Court lords will not be gaining his attention on her.
But of course, that would be a dream as the Duke of Belikov's estate was shining with the gaslights from afar as Becca was looking through the window. This night will seal the fate that she has been wanting to get away.
Being someone's bride.

Niklaus was looking around the ballroom from the balcony that was on the second floor of his estate. He sipped on the wine that was laced with blood. He constantly needed blood as he had Porphyria when he was younger.
And now, he was a changed man.
Niklaus was scanning the ballroom before a group of people was coming through the front door. He stopped his glass midway as he was staring at the young woman that was adorning the emerald dress that was complimenting her fair complexion. Her hair was black that was styled in crowns to adore her head before he was feeling something inside him.
Something that Niklaus never felt before.
"Who are those people?" Niklaus asked his friend, Ian, that was standing next to him in his secluded area.
"Why, that is Lord Matthew and his family. His wife, Lady Georgia, and their youngest daughter, Lady Rebecca. I heard that she is the only one that has not been capturing any suitor's attention like her sisters," Ian said as Niklaus was blinking his eyes.
How come the beautiful woman was not married yet?
"Do you know why?" Niklaus asked Ian before the marquis chuckled. Niklaus turned to look at him before Ian was smirking at him.
"I see that she managed to capture your attention,"
"That's none of your business," the duke said before Ian was laughing at his friend.
"Well, rumors said that the lady in question was reckless and wild. She has a mouth that would turn sailor to shame, or so I have heard," Ian said before Niklaus was determined to find out more about that woman. Maybe she was the answer to his conquest. A loveless marriage, just a wife to give him an heir. End of story.
"Well," Niklaus said as he was straightening his coat before he was putting the glass on the rail, "I think I will be the judge of that," he said before he was moving out of the balcony, making his way to his potential bride.
At least this problem will be solved, Niklaus mused to himself before he stared into the vivid green eyes he ever saw in his life.

Becca was sighing before she rolled her eyes as she was looking at the enormous estate that stood in front of her. Her father had helped her to get out of the carriage before her mother was getting off the carriage behind her.
"Wow, this duke of Belikov did not play with his wealth. He loves to show it off," her mother said as she was adorning her ruby jewelry. Becca rolled her eyes.
"Like someone that I know," she mumbled before her mother turned to look at her.
"Did you say something, darling?" Lady Georgia was asking her daughter before Becca smiled at her.
"Nothing, Mama. I was just adorning your ruby collection. Bold for this kind of party," Becca said before her father was clearing his throat.
"Shall we get going then, family?" He asked before her mother was putting her hand on the crook of his elbow before they were walking ahead of her. Becca followed their pursuit before the door was opened and the grand ballroom was in front of her.
"Lord and Lady Davis. Welcome," the butler said as her parents were nodding at him. Her parents took off their coats as well as Becca before giving them to the servant. Suddenly, Becca felt conscious of the dress that she was adorning. It was emerald green that hugged her figure perfectly but the neckline was too low for her taste now. She felt like she was the prey in this ballroom. She heard her parents were talking to someone before she turned to look at them. They were gone now.
"Damnation," she cursed before she was looking around for any sign of them but failed miserably. She sighed before she felt something behind her. The body heat was too strong to be ignored and when she turned, she was looking into the deepest blue eyes that she could ever see in her life.
"Are you lost, my dear?" The stranger asked her as she was blinking her eyes. Becca tried to form sentences but she stammered instead. The stranger chuckled lowly. Then, Becca was clearing her throat before she glared at the man."No, my lord," she did not know if he was a gentry or not but it was never hurt to tell them, just to boost their ego. "I am merely looking around to take in the sight of the ballroom. It was mesmerizing that I cannot help but turn around, making myself look like a fool," Becca said sarcastically before the blue-eyed man was amused with her answer. It usually worked the other way."Well, you must thank the host of this ball then. It is grand, I must admit," the stranger said before Becca was rolling her eyes. The tomes on her etiquette lessons would be cursing and her tutors would roll on their sleep as Becca was doing the things that a lady of the genteel breed should not do.Talking sarcastically.Rolling her eyes. What's next? Scoffing?"If you must know, m
It has been a few weeks after that fateful ball that Becca was forced to go and met Lord Niklaus Dragomir, who she did not know at the time was Duke of Belikov. She thought that everything went south after that dance and conversation that they had but she guessed wrong. Why?It was because the duke was sitting on the divan, sipping tea that her mother was asking the maid to pour it for him."Thank you for allowing me to meet with your daughter, my lady. I cannot thank you enough," Niklaus stated as Becca was walking into the drawing room. Her skirts were swooshing against each other before Niklaus was turning to look at her. His blue orbs clashed with her green eyes."Ah, Becca darling. You're here. It was such a surprise that the duke was coming here this morn to court you, was it, Your Grace?" Lady Georgia asked him before Niklaus smiled."That would be correct, my lady, yes," he replied before Becca stiffed. No, no, no!"Come on, darling. Don't just stand there. Come sit here," Lady
Lord Matthew looked outside their manor to the place that The Higher Court lords assembled and most of the gentry were staying. The lord sighed as he was undoing his cravat as Lady Georgia was helping him out of the waistcoat. His wife was arching her eyebrow at him."What are you thinking about, dearest?" Lady Georgia was asking her husband. Lord Matthew turned to regard his Georgie before he was taking her hands into his."Do you think we're doing the right thing for Becca? Belikov is from The Higher Court. I don't want her to be in trouble," Lord Matthew stated before Lady Georgia was caressing his cheeks. He leaned into that touch."I'm scared for our daughter too, dearest," Lady Georgia stated as Lord Matthew was arching his eyebrow."I thought you would be overjoyed with this union?" Lord Matthew teased her before Lady Georgia was slapping his chest playfully. Lord Matthew chuckled."I am but I don't trust the Higher Court. You know their history," Lady Georgia stated as she was
"This is fucking great. We're inside of a fucking prayer house," Niklaus was whispering to his best man, Ian, as the marquis was chuckling at the duke. Niklaus glared at his friend before Ian was arching his eyebrow."I thought you want to keep the secret until the end?" He taunted Niklaus before he was gritting his teeth."It would be nice if it was not a fucking church. Why do you have to do such a stupid thing, Ian?" He hissed before the young queen of Niapachad Island was coming up to Niklaus.Queen Arabella Dragomir was the 10th monarch that ruled Niapachad Island. Her husband, Aiden, was the Prince Consort as she was greeting Niklaus. He smiled at his cousin before Queen Arabella was hugging him."Ara, I thought you would not come here. How surprising!" Niklaus said as the young queen was giggling as she was holding her husband's arm. Aiden was nodding at Niklaus and Ian. Being the lords that were working in the Higher Court, they would have a closed relationship with the young Q
"And then, I have to dodge it so that my father would not come after me. Instead, he went after my brother," Emily said as Becca was laughing at her anecdote. How come one gets away with anything? Becca mused before she remembered that she was the youngest and her sisters have been married.Of course, her mother would focus on her.But that ended tonight as she will be staying at this lavish estate when she will be losing her virginity to her new husband, the Duke of Belikov. Becca gulped before she turned to see that her husband was walking with someone that she knew. It was the young Queen Arabella Dragomir of Niapachad Island. Shit! Becca was trying to control Emily's laughter before she was looking at the young queen as well. Emily shut up before they both stood up and curtsied to the queen. "Your Majesty," they both said as the young queen was beaming at Becca."You must be happy that you are oblivious to the scowl and frown of the ladies around you, cousin," the young queen was
Niklaus was looking at his duchess who was swaying in his arms as Becca was trying to glare at him. But she failed when she was blinking her eyes and she was slurring again when she tried to reply to deny his claim on her right now."You're...lying..." she slurred as she was gripping his coat and pulled him closer to her sinful body. The tight corset was showing the ample bosom as Becca has been undoing her wedding gown after the last guest has gone. Niklaus gulped as his cock was stirring when she was looking with her green orbs at him.He wanted to curse himself right now."Ah! I know what you're—" a hiccup, "thinking, Belikov," Becca stated as she was gripping his lapel now. "You're trying—" a hiccup, "to get under my skirts," Becca slurred before she was putting her delicate hand on his hard chest. Niklaus was breathing hard as he was looking at his duchess right now.Control, Nick, control."I think you're drunk, my dear," Niklaus stated as he was holding Becca's hands into his. S
After Niklaus left Becca to her devices, she went through the adjacent door that was inside his room. If she knew that the chamber was the master chamber, no doubt that she slept in Niklaus' bed last night.Becca shivered when she was thinking about this morning as she was dipping inside the bathtub as the maid was helping to scrub her clean. The maid was working diligently as she would scrub every inch of her skin before she was rinsed with a pail of lukewarm water and dried with a towel."Thank you. I will be attending to my duchess now," Niklaus' velvety voice was coming inside her eardrum before Becca closed her eyes. Why does my husband have to be a duke? she mused before she turned to glare at her husband. The duke merely smiled at her as his blue orbs were gazing at her body up and down. "Shouldn't you be doing your tenants' payment right now or something?" Becca asked him as she was moving to the dresser to get ready. But of course, Niklaus was beside her in seconds."That can
Niklaus has to admit that his wife has a sassy mouth that was as sharp as a knife. It would be hard to be defeated by her. But Niklaus wondered why she was being bitter toward Skylar when Niklaus only drank her blood to sustain him? Will Becca be mad if he told her that he sucked on her blood? Would she run away?"Your mistress is a nice woman. I bet you're regretting your decision to marry me when you can have her," Becca stated as she was turning her head from looking outside the carriage as her vivid green eyes were looking at him. Niklaus smirked."Don't tell me that you feel jealous, knowing that I have a history with her, my dear?" Niklaus taunted him before Becca scoffed at him. Niklaus thought that she would throw a tantrum but Becca was not that kind of lady. She was a stone-cold lady after all."Like I care about you, Niklaus. I wish nothing from this union and if you need your fills then, you can go elsewhere to get it because I am not giving it to you," Becca stated before
It’s been one month. One fucking month until I can get my hands on Aiden’s body. Not that I don’t have anything to complain about but right now, I was relieved that we had escaped the party and the coronation for I was the current monarch with my prince consort.Aiden Dragomir.Niklaus was furious that I would marry a commoner but when I explained to him that Aiden was my soulmate and my demon had been claiming him as mine, he did not have anything to add anymore. He just let me plan the wedding and the coronation on the same day.It was exhausting, of course, for I was running around, cheering when the people of Niapachad Island were coming together to look at me. As well as the only queen who took a commoner as her prince consort.I was breaking history today, people!I sighed as I was leaning against the door when Aiden was removing his cravat from his neck, sauntering inside my bedchambers with the elegance tha
After Arabella left, Aiden was looking around his room for any trace of her. I cannot believe that she tricked me, he thought furiously before he took the clothes that Arabella wore and threw them into the fireplace. He was breathing hard before he was looking at the crackling firewood when his Nana entered the room.“You cannot blame her for why she’s been keeping a secret from you,” she said before Aiden was turning to look at his grandma.“So you know who she was? All this time?” he asked before he snorted. Aiden cannot believe that his Nana herself would not tell him the truth. The old woman shrugged.“Well, it was not my secret to tell and I have been hinting at her to tell you the truth. Perhaps she was afraid that you might be reacting like you are now?” she said before Aiden growled.“It’s not the same,”“No? Then you mustn’t forget the first time when you discovered th
I was looking at myself in the mirror as I was wiping my face. I sighed before I felt the stiff muscles as I slept on the chair last night. Next to Aiden. I smiled before I walked out of the washroom and Aiden was standing outside.“Oh, you’re awake already?” I asked him as he was looking at me. He smiled charmingly before he was nodding.“Yeah, I think I had the strangest dream ever last night,” he said as I was arching my eyebrows.“Oh, do tell?” I said as I was smiling at him. Aiden was looking at me before he shook his head.“You would not believe it,”“Try me,”He took a deep breath before I was waiting for him to continue, “I dreamed that your eyes were bleeding black and you attacked the cronies that my boss was coming at you to rape you. I tried to stop it but I was being stabbed in the stomach. It seems…so surreal that I don’t think I was dreaming a
Aiden was looking at the people that were coming at him at once. He was determined to keep Arabella from getting hurt as his boss and his cronies were going after her.“You son of a bitch! You will share your whore with us!” his boss said before they were coming at him. Aiden was thinking faster than his action. He took his ax and swung it as a form of defense. But of course, it was not going to deter the men from coming at Arabella.“Come on, lads! He just one man, what harm can he do to us?” the boss said before everyone was laughing. Aiden was gritting his teeth before he was slamming his shoulder into the boss. He went down before the cronies were coming at him, punching and kicking him in the stomach as he went down.“Aiden!” Arabella’s shout as he was struggling to keep his head above the attack. It was all his coworkers who did not have any honor or dignity in their blood. They only wanted to have fun and Arabella
Niklaus was looking outside the castle as the sun was on the horizon. He could not get any sleep lately for he feared that his cousin might be in danger. The all lords of the Higher Court were worried about their monarch.“Anything?” Niklaus asked his friend, Baron of Fell, Marsh, before he shook his head. Niklaus sighed before he took a seat at the head of the council meeting. There were five of them, the inner circle that Niklaus trusted to find his missing cousin.Bloody hell, Arabella, why do you have to be so stubborn at times? He thought before Ian was looking at him.“So, what do we do now? We cannot just sit idly and not be taking action about this. The prince will come here any day now and if Her Highness was not around to receive him—”“There will be a catastrophe. I know,” Niklaus said as he was rubbing his dry mouth. He did not know where or when Arabella had been slipping away from the palace but thei
Aiden was cutting the lumber into small pieces so that it would be easier to burn for the winter. He wiped his forehead which was accumulated with sweat before his boss came from behind.“Rough night, Blackwood?” he asked before Aiden turned to look at him. He was regarding the man before he smirked.“You could say that,” he said as he was cutting the log again. His boss smirked.“I bet that woman who warms your bed was worth it then. How much you got her for?”Aiden stopped his work before he turned to look at his boss. He was smirking at Aiden before he smiled charmingly at him.“She’s not for sale. She’s my wife,” Aiden lied smoothly before the boss was blinking his eyes at him.“You’re joking, right?” his boss asked but Aiden just left the conversation there as he was making his way out of the lumber field.“Have a good day then,” Aiden said
I woke up early the next morning because I was excited to get my first job. I know that my job would always be a monarch but to think that I will have an experience outside of state affairs and proposals for once would be the thrill of my life. The dusk was shining with orange sunlight before the sun was on the horizon. I took a shower before I put on the clothes that were provided by Nana for me. She told me that it once belonged to Aiden’s mother and I don’t know if I should be happy or not.I never asked about his parents and sometimes, I wished I had the courage to. But I don’t want to destroy the fragile relationship that we have anymore. I was threading the thread carefully now so that Aiden would be open to me more.If only.I was putting on the chemise before I was putting on the stays that will put my breasts in place. Then, I put on the petticoats, 5 layers of them, right before I put on the gown. It was a modest gown with long
I walked along with Aiden as he was putting his hands inside his pockets. I was looking at him from the corner of my eyes before I was looking at the moon. It was full tonight and everything was perfect in this little moment.I did not know what came over me but my mouth was humming the lullaby that my mother always sang to me whenever I went to bed. And I was doing that right now as Aiden was looking at me strangely.“How do you know that lullaby?” he asked me before I turned to look at him. His emerald orbs were shining under the moonlight.“Hmm? What?”“That song you were humming. My mother used to sing that to me as well,” he said with a hint of sadness before I stopped humming it altogether.“No, don’t stop. It just…no one ever heard that before,” he said as he turned to look at me. “until you,”I smiled before I hummed again the music that haunted both of us. My m
Aiden was making his way into the forest for his job as a lumberjack. He was carrying his favorite ax before his boss showed up in front of him.“Fancy seeing you here at this hour. I thought you might be late again, Blackwood,” his boss sneered before Aiden smiled at him, not feeling threatened by anything.“Well, what can I say? The woman that graced my bed last night was making me sleep late and I have to be here before you can say anything else, so here I am,” he said as he was setting up himself for his job. The boss was arching his eyebrow at him.“I thought you’re not approved of that way of life?” his boss asked him before Aiden shrugged.I am but I will not be telling you, “Perhaps I need to experience it myself before I can judge it,” Aiden said before he put on his protective mask and started on the lumber that was his quota for the day. The boss just nodded at him before leaving Aiden to hi
