"I'm sad to say, Kai, but still no luck for us this round. I've already sent out quite a handful of messages to the underground, trying to check if anyone knows Luca or has any connections with him that we might be able to use, but still, that proves fruitless. Although the squad actually started their efforts to locate this Calix Hendrix a couple of weeks ago, it would seem that he is indeed very hard to track down for some reason. I don't even know why, in America, you have managed to bump into him out of nowhere, but now he hasn't even frequented that bar." This was the long but upsetting news that her cousin Enzo handed down to her as soon as he got back from his stint at the grounds.
Kaira grunted bitterly to herself, "Just what the fucking hell is happening to us?" This is the first time during their mission that all of their possible connections and intelligence have led them nowhere. And in all honesty, she is already starting to lose the strength and determination to seriously believe that she is even capable of actually finishing this mission. And Kaira is attributing this whole fiasco to just one thing.
"That fucking marriage seems to be the cause of all of this rotten luck and hardship that I am having. I am already losing all my concentration just thinking about all of that bullshit marriage crap." And that was the truth for her; everything else seemed to have gotten worse for her since her father brought up the arranged marriage thing with her.
"Hey, Kai, take some deep breaths in and follow them with a big sigh of relief out. Remember that we can still get this over with. Show some interest and motivation, will you? We still have this, and you know that." Enzo is attempting to motivate and encourage his cousin, but instead all he got was a murderous glare from her.
And he clearly feels what his cousin is feeling. And regardless of how much he would want to vent his dissatisfaction and disappointment at where their case is leading, Enzo is not able to do so. He surely knows and understands Kaira's complaints, as he himself is also now beginning to feel the strain of their fruitless search for the Heralde clan's heir. This mission is clearly one of the hardest, but he can't show his lack of motivation to his cousin. His cugino would only grow more frustrated and disappointed in herself. Enzo knows so well that it would even bring Kaira to more self-pity.
"Kai, this is certainly not a sufficient reason for me to allow you to continue making a fuss over this. It's not even as though we are experiencing difficulties for the very first time." said Enzo.
"Enzo, I really would like to know anything at all." She wanted to cry and scream and then let it all out, but she can't because Enzo and her are currently in the costa nostra office, and her father will indeed unexpectedly walk right up here if she does that. "How can I be enthusiastic and even hopeful when my life is starting to disintegrate before my eyes? And what's even worse than that is that I have no one else but myself to blame for all of this mess. It's not even half of the day yet, but I am already so overwhelmed that I feel so weary from all of the analyzing and contemplating." She said after taking a long inhale and laboriously exhaling again.
"Take Calix into serious consideration, Kai. We should be able to locate him more quickly if there is something that we are failing to grasp. Do you discuss anything at all in particular?"
That was a really general and expected question, and it should have been simple to answer, but then how does she expect to have a conversation with him when they haven't even tried to speak at all? She was accustomed to encounters without any kind of identity as well as other personally identifiable information. And Calix, though she felt a sense of connection with him, is not at all different. And that's the only thing they did that night—nothing more than the one night she could only have dared to hope they would spend together. But why in the fucking world does it appear to her that the universe is choosing to work against her when she did end up on a mission to encounter the man she made a pledge to only have a one-night experience with?
"Enzo, hardly anything. We had absolutely no conversation." She retorted, "And you know me, I don't really do conversation for pleasure." As she said it, she tried to continue to think about the one night she spent with Calix Hedrix.
Calix Hendrix is the owner of a vehicle that is breathtakingly beautiful and incontestably valued at a billion dollars. He is very much a drag racer; therefore, that is not something out of the ordinary. That being said, she only had that knowledge of him and nothing more. Enzo and her team have also already obtained the very same information, though. So what on earth does she lack in just this aspect, then?
She spoke again to herself rather than attempting to turn to her cousin for the possible answer: "He is indeed a drag racer, and we kind of know all of this already. So what critical knowledge can we extract from that one teeny-weenie fact that we do have about him?" Even after standing from her seat, she proceeded to pace the room in an effort to help find the answer she was seeking in the four corners of the confined space they are in.
Enzo attempts to help by trying to offer his cousin his own view on the matter while rubbing his chin, signifying that he is also deeply thinking about this. "He is indeed a drag racer, of course, and we all know that, but where would racers spend the most of their time? Except for the bars where he usually lets his steam off, the racing track should really be the obvious answer."
"That really is basically it! But where is the specific racetrack where he could have been all this time?" Kaira exclaimed enthusiastically for the very first time since they had started this conversation.
Enzo then suggests, "Then we concentrate on just that essential information. We need to determine the location of the racetrack where he regularly stays and trains and send in men to gather relevant information for us."
"Therefore, that will be a fantastic start for us as well; pretty good job, Enzo." she mused. "We can travel if necessary in order to guarantee we find him."
"Who said you would be traveling, Kaira?" The Don's voice boomed into the room, startling both Kaira and Enzo, both of whom glanced apprehensively at each other as Kaira's father and his men walked through the door. "Where are you two off to again, and why is there a need to leave?"
In response to her father's greeting, Kaira continues to walk over to him and gives him a kiss on the cheek, all the while her father simply pats her shoulders in accordance with her obvious show of affection. "Is there anything that you need from us, papa? Do you have a task for Enzo and me?"
"Figlia, you didn't respond to my question. Where are you and Enzo headed next? Do you really need to travel?" Clearly, she really should not be caught making up lies at this point. She knows her father so well, and they might even get killed when her father finds out what she and Enzo really do.
While flashing a bright smile at the boss, she lifted her head to show her confidence in every word that she would say. "Papa, I just thought that in order for us to form greater alliances outside of the country, Enzo and I will also need to travel a great deal. We can't just sit back and wait here when we can have the chance to explore outside of our zone." she further explains.
Her father's only reaction is an intense gaze. As for her father, she's not sure if he'll take it to heart and succumb to the bait. Being that he serves as both his father and the mob boss, it would obviously be quite difficult to deceive him and play him around. "But if you absolutely require us here, we can defer that trip until a later date. I honestly just want to explore more options and opportunities for us."
"As much as I would like to agree with your point of view, now is not the time." He said, drawing a long breath. "Not so much this time, figlia. There are so many pressing needs that would need to be addressed."
"And what would that be, papa?" She asks once more, hoping that her father's response won't be focused on the impending marriage, which she has been genuinely dreading. "Do the police present any issues for us?"
"No." was just the prompt reply. "Not really that type; the one we would be required to concentrate on is far more important than the police."
More important than the police? Then what could that be? She cautiously tries to ask again, "Then that would be what, papa?"
"Your marriage, Kaira." That gets her attention once more. The subject she is most dreading is already at hand.
"In about two days from now, your fiance and his family will all be here. That is the reason that we don't really need any additional partnerships at this time, so we can stop here anyway. We would be content with just your future husband's family and close connections for the meantime."
How much time had she and Enzo already squandered searching for the Heralde heir when her marriage was already in front of her? Had she truly already missed out on the chance to escape from this? She gasped in the air, unable to speak at that point. "Papa."
She has so far not spoken a word, but her father already knows what Kaira is considering. "No, Kaira." he asserts, "There won't be any ifs or buts in this. When they arrive, we make as good an impression on them as they do on us, and then we start planning your wedding."
Even though she wanted to, she lacks the fortitude to challenge him at this time. She was really only able to take into account the fact that she had been racing against the clock. Only two days remain for her and Enzo before she loses the freedom she is looking forward to enjoying.
And the words her father said next were already intended to end their chat by saying, "Do very well and make me so proud as always, figlia." The don patted her shoulders one more time and then walked with his men out the door. Kaira and Enzo are left all the more distraught.
All Kaira could say after that terrible conversation she had with her father was, "Doomsday is coming for me, and there isn't any other way to escape it."
She had that dreadful conversation with her father just two days ago. And consequently, they also had only two days during which they were able to gain knowledge about where Calix Hendrix might have been, but as she had feared, time has never been in her favor. There won't be an opportunity to allow them to travel and see him, regardless of the fact that they have managed to identify a precise area where he could possibly be seen. And given that she will be more or less duty-bound and may be forced into a marriage that she is not particularly eager to enter, how is she supposed to carry forward with this mission after that? Is she willing to put aside all of her hopes and dreams for herself and yield to her father's demands without question or complaint? Between groans of anxiety and despair, she can really only scream all her frustrations. "Agh! Dammit! Fuck
Enzo was trying very hard to suppress his laughter as he got to hear what Kaira was discreetly trying to tell him. "What? Did she in fact say that to you?" he tried to ask. His cugino nods her head towards him, her sweet smile still on her face, as her father continues to look at them from time to time. "What is she even thinking about trying to strike up that conversation with you?" "I guess to make me feel that I have a mother?" Kaira sheepishly answers in the form of a question. Together with the other members of the family, they were going to have to wait for Kaira's fiancé to start showing up for them to start this shitshow. Even though they were not particularly excited about this and were starting to feel rather depressed and gloomy about what was to happen as well, what Kaira said to him practically caused him to laugh boisterously. If they had not been part of the same room as Kaira's father and
When he just came across her again earlier, Calix really could not believe what he saw. She was right in front of his eyes, and to his surprise, she was his future bride. She would have been the woman he liked to think would be his only hope for salvation, but that is now moot since this marriage of convenience has been brought to his attention. Calix had so highly valued that one-night experience with her that he considered it his most prized encounter, a championship he never thought he could win but did. Then he came to know that he would soon be getting married to the Lombardi clan heiress, an obligation that would force him to fulfill a duty for his family. And whether he admits it or not, that thought in and of itself had a profound effect on him. There really was no way he could refuse it, even though he does not want to get married just yet. And he even had no idea that the woman he was about to marry would be the same woman with whom he had that unforgettable one-night affa
Enzo is still reeling from disbelief over the reality that the individual they had been trying to track down for weeks is finally standing in front of them, and as luck would have it, the man is actually his cugino's fiancé. "I am just so fucking flabbergasted as to how all of this turns out to be." he goes on to say. "Cugino, do I sense a shift in your heart and mind in terms of this marriage right now?" Similar to Enzo, Kaira was initially in absolute shock but has now become thrilled and delighted at the prospect as she slowly begins to put the pieces of the puzzle together. "After weeks of agony, Enzo, good fortune has finally shown up for us. And yes, I'm having a change of heart now with this marriage bullshit. Enz, things are actually beginning to really go our way right now." "After having found him, the man of the hour, what's going to be our game pl
There had been a brief period of silence between Calix and Kaira as they just stood there gazing at each other. They are having a hard time trying to strike up a conversation with one another. If they had not been a part of this miserable life that they lead, things would have turned out differently for them. And it would have been better that way, just like that night that they shared. Yes, there is a connection between them both, but if they cave in to their desires, things will become increasingly complicated and challenging. They must put their attention on matters that are considerably more crucial than yielding to lust. Yes, they both try to convince themselves that their feelings for one another are nothing other than lust. Kaira initiated the conversation after feeling uncomfortable with the resulting silence. "So what do you want to talk about?"
As her father walked through the door, Kaira looked up from the collection of wedding dress designs in front of her as she was asked, "Figlia, is everything going well? How are the preparations going? Where is Enzo, by the way?" "Papa," she remarked, trying to get up from her seat to walk over to kiss her father on the cheek. "How did you end up here? I thought you had an important meeting outside. Where's the sotto capo?" Giovanni responded, "I am just checking in on you and the preparations," as he peered around the room to see what his daughter was really up to at the moment. Then, in all seriousness, he added, "My figlia, I do not want any trouble about this. I want everything to be as perfect as it can be." Kaira can now only relieve herself by sighing. She is aware that her father appears to still have reservations about everything. "Papa, you don't need to check on me every now and then. I told you I'd be doing this. I already promised you that I would be performing this tas
Given that this is an absolutely vital and critical day for both the Lombardi and Hendrix clans, everyone else was bustling on the Lombardi estate. It is not just about the function that is about to happen that they are focusing on, but much more on the security issues. Certainly, those present here today are individuals with high stakes in the gangster life in and out of Italy, and security should be tightened at all costs. Everyone was on their toes as they will now wrap up the preparatory work that took up their time over the past few days. And after this, a bigger event will take place in the very near future. It's a signing of a marriage contract that will happen right now, but it's going to soon become a signing of a business partnership. And Luca Hendrix and Giovanni Lombardi equally cannot wait for these agreements, both the marriage and the business partnership, to happen.
Calix has by now made up his mind, even though his conversation with Kaira has been futile. His father's dismissive comments won't keep him in constant fear, and he will not allow his threats to overcome his plans. He is willing to go to any length to prevent the Lombardis' collaboration. He can see it in Kaira's eyes that, just like him, this is not what she wants, and behind that hard facade that she is trying to show him, Calix knows that she, like him, is desperately trying to find a way out of this. With a huff in his breath, Calix can only now admit to himself that yes, he does care for her. And as much as James is right that he can protect her more if they get married, he simply cannot allow Kaira Lombardi to play an active role in the lifestyle he happens to find repulsive. She has a bright future awaiting her outside of this life that they are forced to live.
"We need to have a change of plan, Kaira.""What? Change of plans? Why?"Enzo suddenly cut off her and Calix's discussion about her father's imprisonment preparations when he said, "He won't be coming, Kaira. They already knew what was about to happen. Zio Giovanni knew all about you now. And they knew all about the plan that you have for them now."The reality that her father already knows about her secret identity has left her perplexed, yet she still inquires about it: "What do you mean my father knew? What does he know about us; what did he learn about me? And how did he even find out? Is it because of Luca?"Questions after questions were raised, to which her cousin can only say, "Alex was able to gather information, providing sufficient details for him to determine
"Boss, there's something that you should know.""I'm busy, Alex.""We've got some reports. Vital information that you need to know now." At that point in time, Giovanni comes to understand that something might be amiss because Alex's tone of speech is one of uncertainty and fear.He furrowed his brows and asked, "Can't this wait? We'll be meeting Kaira in a few hours, and I am preparing for that. Let's talk about whatever this is after my daughter is back. I also want you to get enough men ready to join us later. I don't know what will happen, and I don't want to take any chances with the police."Since seeing his daughter again is his top concern, he doesn't want to think about anything else for the time being, so whatever Alex has to say, that clearly has to wait until
Over the past few days, Giovanni has been experiencing conflicting feelings. Why wouldn't he? He is undoubtedly concerned about his daughter and nephew. Despite their best efforts, he has not heard anything about their whereabouts, and he is growing increasingly concerned over what might have happened to them.He wanted to maximize all his resources to search for his daughter, but with Luca's apprehension just days earlier, he had to be extra cautious. Their movements are also limited, as they also chose to stay low and cause minimal disturbance until the situation settles down. And even though his men are making every effort to track down the next-line leaders, everything seems to be futile at this point. And, given that there has been no update on the heiress as of yet, he is honestly growing impatient, not with his men but with himself.Where in the he
"Hey, what's wrong? Everything alright with you?" Kaira had been thinking deeply since returning from work, but Calix's arms wrapping around her waist interrupted her deep thoughts. He engulfed her in his warmth and tenderly kissed her on the cheek, showing her how much he misses her presence. As soon as she felt his arms around her and his lips on her cheeks, she closed her eyes instinctively. Despite the fact that they had just seen each other in the institution early this morning, she still misses him. Her mind has been constantly bugged with worries, and she is being overcome by her anxiousness, but her fears temporarily vanished as she felt his comforting embrace. It has been a challenging and long few days for both of them, not just for her. They both consider Luca's captivity an accomplishment because it has fulfilled her mission and allowed Calix to sec
"Let me out of here, you assholes! You do not possess any evidence against me. This is against my rights! You think you can lock me here all you want? I won't allow you to do that! You are clearly mistaken; I will get out of here; you just wait for my lawyers, and I will sue everyone of you!" he exclaimed.Since being brought to the facility, Luca has been making threats to the American and Italian police while also making loud noises to disrupt them."You! Hey you, miserable jerk! I am willing to give you a good deal! Let me escape from here and I will be willing to give you some money in exchange for my release. Hey, did you hear my offer? Come here right now and let me out! Tell me how much do you want and I'll give it to you right away!""Shut the hell up, Heralde! You don't have any penny left in yo
Kaira laid out her words to her father-in-law with great confidence: "It's over, Luca. Your fun is over. This represents the end; your end. And I am happy to be here to witness this special moment.""What the hell are you talking about?! What's the meaning of this?" Luca is visibly taken aback when he encounters his daughter-in-law and her cousin standing in front of him, both of them gloating smugly at him. He shrieked back, "What the fucking hell is this?! Where the hell is my son?!"As she pulled something from her back, Kaira gave him a cheeky look before shocking him with what she said all the while showing her father-in-law her most precious badge. "I am Agent Ira Amato, and I am here as part of my job, Luca. As the commander said, you are under arrest. You're going down now, and I will ensure that you enjoy your prison time."
Drew pointed out, "Boss, we've located them. All of the information that Bella managed to disclose is accurate. I am confirming that Luca is indeed in the vicinity she mentioned, and although there are no movements yet from them, I think they are preparing for something."When Giovanni learned about this, he turned his attention to his Sotto Capo. "Alex, prepare the men for war. I am sure that he knows it was us; clearly he was able to get hold of my message. Tonight, we are going to take that asshole to his grave for continuing to cross me and for having the recklessness to even use my daughter against me. Him taking Kaira is the last straw in all of this betrayal."Alex nodded in agreement. "The men are geared up for any battle. We are ready to take back our Ereditiera. We will give Luca and his men the pain and the misery that they haven't felt before."
The air was filled with clouds of smoke as the shooting intensified with each passing minute. This situation has persisted for some time now, showing no signs of abating. It appears that whoever is orchestrating this chaos has only one purpose in mind: to take out the enemy and make sure that they will fall. With powerful troops around them, Luca's group is forced to get involved in direct combat. They must take action to avoid being taken over again, even though they are obviously outnumbered. The person causing this disruption for them appeared to be trying to make sure they lose their lives today.Luca's men had been rushing from place to place in an attempt to conceal themselves from the attackers so they wouldn't be approaching death in a couple of minutes. They are unaware of who they are facing or who is coming for them at the moment, but they are aware
"Where the hell are they?!" Luca roared in anger as he walked into the location where he was supposed to meet with Calix, but his son was still not there. "Fucking Calix! Where the hell is he?! Where the hell is Kaira?!"He is agitated given that time is of crucial significance in this situation. He's lost a lot of his men in the attack, and he can't be too sure of his safety while he's still struggling to determine if Giovanni is tracking them or not, which would also explain why he has to secure his ace before Giovanni can make another attempt against them.Kaira is his only way to survive another ambush attempt by Giovanni. The Lombardi clan won't be too aggressive with dealing with his gang if they know that their princess is with him. And this is why he can't wait to see Kaira. At this point, he doesn't know wh
