Through her confusion and tears Rori ran until her feet felt swollen and her lungs ached with every breath, as she slowed to a steady walk she tried to look around but whatever part of the mountain she was in had become dark and smelled musty, as if it had been a while since any life had graced the area. Rori shivered more from the solitude than any chill in the air, but as she wrapped her arms around herself and sank to the floor, she heard the slight sound of Andy’s voice, “dinna run miss, please… let Andy sit wit yee at least and kill the loneliness.” Rori sniffled and looked around “Andy?” she asked in a small hushed tone, “where are you, I can’t find you,” as her voice became almost frantic a gust of wind blew through the corridor, and suddenly, it lit with the soft glow of small fires lining the walls. Rori gasped as she watched the delicate flames snake around the sid

Destiny pulled Rori into the mountain and back toward the bedrooms. The small giggling troll shoved Rori into Murdok’s room, and as Rori stumbled inside, she was immediately met with three rows of rolling wardrobe racks full of clothes and the smiling face of Calder. Rori gasped as Destiny shot past her and stretched her arms out in front of herself, “TADA!” She sang loudly. Destiny touched a few garments hanging on one rack and shrugged. “I realize it’s not the same as your own things but… I thought maybe if you had something that was yours, you could feel more at home here.” Rori flung herself into Destiny’s unsuspecting arms and squeezed her tight. “Destiny… I don’t even know what to say, this is the most amazing thing anyone has ever done for me. Why would you go through all the trouble.”? Destiny pushed her forehead against R

Rori wasn't sure whose arm she was holding or whose heartbeat was pounding in her ear, but she knew she felt home and safe sandwiched between her friends. The sound of shouting voices pulled the huddled trio out of their cocoon of shock and joy as Arthur, Mina, and Max came running into the room. Mina gasped as Mason and his sister stepped to the side, revealing Rori’s still sniffling frame. Arthur stepped forward and opened his mouth to speak, but Rori’s whimpered cries cut him off, “it hurts” she cried and as Mason picked her up from the ground, the smell of sizzling flesh caught Max and Arthur’s immediate attention. “She has Lycan silver on her ankle, and it's burning her fucking skin off… Kristi, did you bring her here?” Arthur finally shouted and Mina shoved her hysterical mate aside as she grabbed her daughter, “Kri

  • The Dragons Fire Dancer   Chapter Thirty-Five

The moment Rori darted away from Murdok his attention zeroed in on her, and as Mason’s much smaller body shielded her from sight, Murdok began to make an inhuman groaning noise as he neared the pair. Arthur tried to put himself between his comrade and his son, but Murdok simply swept Aruthur’s colossal frame out of the way with one swing of his half shifted arm. Arthur’s body sailed sideways before sliding to a stop and as he pulled himself from the floor, he watched as a wave of purple magic jutted from his daughter to encase Mason, who was now half shifted and screeching in Murdok’s face. Murdok struck the luminescent purple barrier with large scaled claws, and Kristi grunted as she tried to wield her unpredictable magic. Kristi started to pant and cry as Murdok beat his fists against the blockade, causing small cracks a

Arthur stood frozen, watching in horror and awe as Murdoks enormous frame cradled the slight trembling body of the girl he had grown to love as his own while Mina pushed two large tables together and Kristi covered the top with an oversized cloth before motioning toward Murdok to bring Rori over. The large Stoic man looked apprehensive but laid the small figure he held on top of the table anyway, careful not to brush against her leg. Murdok stood over her, watching as the pained expressions and haggard breathing suddenly returned, Rori began her painful whimpers once more while Mina shoved Murdok to the side, so she could draw closer to the marred flesh, “ Let me heal her, your cuff is obviously tainted with bad Luceat, I am strong enough to override the primitive magics here, but I have to touch her to draw the burn out, and you must not interfere.'' Murdok began to growl and move forward, but Rori whimp

Murdok roared in her face, “GET OUT!!!” and as the power of his voice blasted Kristi in the face with heat, he felt the lightest of touches at the center of his spine. Murdok glanced over his shoulder to see Rori’s compact frame tucked into his back as she sobbed and trembled. The large dragon shifter turned and knelt in front of her once more, “she must leave, and you must stay-” Murdok’s voice caught in his throat as Rori’s soft brown eyes lifted to meet his, and she nodded with thick tears streaming down her face. Murdok peered back over his shoulder to see Kristi still standing there with an angry purple haze growing over her head just as Arthur ran up behind his daughter and, wrapping his arms around her upper body, yanked her backwards off her feet. “Dammit, Kristi, you can't come here like that,” Arthur growled as he dragged his screaming daughter back down the corrid

Destiny zipped into the kitchen to place the books she found for Rori in a neat line for her to inspect, and then began to skip down the hall searching for her new housemate. Calder knew when he got the string of frantic messages that Murdok was not happy, but he had no idea just how livid his master was until he floated into focus. Murdok caught sight of Calder and thundered at the top of his lungs, “where is she!” he bellowed and Calder cocked his head, “master, I only took the young miss out to collect some things for our lady Rori, she was--” The spectrul was not allowed to finish his explanation as Murdok roared again, this time shaking the walls of their domicile, “you left Rori ALONE, and she fell through a looking glass.” Calder’s shock and disbelief turned the entire room to ice as he shook his head and lowered himself to the floor, “my apologies master, I will acc

Murdok reached his office with enough speed built up that, as he tried to careen his sailing body through the doorway, he scraped the wall with his claws to keep from crashing into it. Murdok managed to land on his feet and skip a few steps forward to avoid falling but as he reached his desk the sight of almost fire red hair and sea-blue eyes had Murdok standing almost defensively as he stared down his oldest and only friend outside his own mountain, “Arthur” Murdok announced and the almost wayward looking man began to plead with him instantly, “please Murdok, don’t take Rori away from Kristi… I don’t know how she fell into the Siren’s Song, but I swear to you, on my honor as a siren's son and an alpha’s progeny, we had no part in bringing her there… but we do wish to see her, is she alright?” Arthur’s question insulted Murdok, and he snarled at his friend, “ No thanks to your mate she is healed completely… you tell that, witch of yours to stay

Rori glanced toward the door and then shook her head. It felt like someone was watching her, but when she looked it was just the cracked open door. A hovering spectrul pulled Rori’s attention away from the exit and back to the meal she was helping them prepare, “ I was discussing it with the others, miss, and we all agree you should get changed for supper and join the others.” As the spectrul beamed down at her with a welcoming smile, Rori’s heart began to race at the thought of having dinner with Kristi and Mason's family again, this time in Murdok’s home instead of theirs. A cold draft across Rori’s knuckles had her attention snapping back to the spectrul who was still warmly smiling at her “I’m sorry, Mary, I must have zoned out for a moment,” Rori mumbled, and the housemaid only gave a small nod, “ please no apologies miss, let me help you get fixed” Mary offered, but Ro

Rori’s next morning in the mountain was pleasant as she and Destiny lazily stretched themselves awake before bathing and dressing. Rori looked at the simple outfit Destiny had picked for her and as she drifted off inside her mind the excited young troll began calling her, “Rori… did you hear me,” she asked, and she shook her wild chocolate curls, “I’m sorry Destiny, I was thinking about my--'' Rori choked on the rest of her sentence and Destiny quickly pulled her into a suffocating hug as Rori’s eyes glazed over with tears, “I will get Calder to take me to your house, so we can pick up your stuff if you want,” Rori snapped her head up to look at Destiny while she shook her head and large tears fell from her eyes, “No Destiny, you are in enough trouble as it is just,” Rori paused and exhaled in defeat “I will ask Kristi to grab some of my things, the girl you met last night? Rori began marching down the dimly lit corridor with her small gold plates in hand while mumbling furiously to herself. Andy floated close behind, wanting to pacify the angry young woman but the small spectrul kept to himself as Rori came to an abrupt halt. She looked around before turning to Andy, “which way?” she asked in a short tone, and Andy simply pointed before floating up in front of her to lead the way. Rori was starting to wonder if Andy was walking her in circles until the young boy stopped and pointed at a closed door. “Tis the young miss room,” he said, and then hung his head. Rori wanted to ask him what was bothering him, but before she could open her mouth Andy spoke, “da masta calls, I be here if ya need jus call and Andy hears.” The moment the words left Andy’s mouth, the child began to fade from sight, so Rori turned with the small plates still held perfectly flat in each hand and realized she

Watching the two spectruls fuss over her and each other brought a slight smile to Rori’s face before she heard a roaring commotion once more, but this time it sounded so close her heart skipped a beat, and she ducked under the dinner table as the harmony of electricity ripped through the air. Destiny’s small but vibrant frame appeared in the doorway to the dining hall and as she entered, the sound of minor scuffles under the table brought her attention to the slight woman with a head full of wild hair coiled up in fright. Arthur followed Murdok as closely as he could and arrived at the threshold of chaos moments after his friend, Arthur’s jaw dropped at the sight in front of him. His daughter was holding her twin captive in some kind of a purple tornado of light and water. Andy stood in front of Rori and Destiny as the two girls clutched one another in fear. Max ran to Arthur, “Alpha, I can't make her stop I don't know what to do please… help me” the grown man cried and Arthur shook his head, “I have never seen her do this before, what happened?” he asked and when Max glanced toward Rori Arthur pinched his nose and started strolling slowly into the room. Max tried to go after him, but Murdok set his heavy hand on the distressed werewolf’s shoulder and shook his head, “he will make sure they are safe… he is their father.” Max licked his lips and nodded as Arthur approached the unfolding storm.

As Mina screamed in agony and Kristi fled the room with Max and Mason, Rori watched as Arthur and Murdok made a series of hand gestures at one another before Calder appeared in front of Rori and began ushering her away from the dinner table of unfolding chaos. “Come, my lady, we will check on dessert, come now,” he coaxed, and although she never took her eyes off the trio at the table she followed Calder out into the kitchen. Murdok waited for Calder to escort Rori from the room before he approached the still shuddering and whimpering Mina, “I will heal you witch… but then you will listen and not speak, understood,” the angry dragon barked and Mina merely nodded, offering out her arm. Murdok rolled his eyes as he extended one long thumbnail and pushed it into the center of his wrist until a single bead of blood formed. Mina wasted littl

Kristi and Max pulled Mason upright as Andy misted back into focus. “Come, come,” the spectrul beckoned as he led the trio into a small sitting room. Kristi and Max gently dropped Mason onto a small loveseat and collapsed across from him in armchairs. Max let his head droop between his knees and began rubbi

Rori watched the familiar yellow light and, on instinct, she forced her hands out in front of herself as she felt a sudden rush of heat from above her. Rori looked up in time to see more than ten small flits in a cluster descend upon the table, as the large firefly looking creatures hovered over the surface of the table Arthur, Kristi, and Mason all pushed themselves as far away from their seats as possible, “don't worry I will take care of these pests,” Mina announced and as Rori watched a yellow glowing ball of energy, appear she heard the sound of Andy’s voice behind her, “she aim’n ta git the flits the way she aim’n to break the chain,” he said with desperation behind his small voice and Rori pointed her finger at Mina, but before she could say anything Murdok calmly wiped his mouth with the back of his enormous hand and stood, “ You will leave the beings in this mountain alone witch, they mean
