When Connor picked up the pendant and rose to his feet, something about him felt different. There was an inexplicable shift that sent a chill through the hearts of the gang of thugs surrounding him.

"Get him, Jasper! Look at what this bastard's done to me," Michael snarled, gesturing furiously at his grotesquely swollen face.

Jasper, the tattooed leader, cast a glance at Connor, then waved his hand decisively. "Get him!"

But before anyone could move, a commanding voice rang out. "Let's see who dares lay a finger on him!"

The crowd turned as a stunningly beautiful woman approached with quick, resolute steps. Her beauty was striking, but there was a sharpness in her gaze that stopped the thugs in their tracks. Two men in black suits followed closely behind her, exuding an air of quiet menace.

It was Christina.

Even Michael, battered and bruised as he was, couldn't help but feel a jolt of heat in his chest. What a woman, he thought, his gaze lingering shamelessly on her long legs wrapped in sheer stockings.

"Handle this mess for Mr. Duke," Christina said crisply, her brows furrowed slightly as she surveyed the scene.

One of her bodyguards stepped forward. In mere moments, the gang of thugs was reduced to a heap of groaning bodies. Even Jasper, with all his bluster, was sent scrambling, clutching his face as he stumbled away in humiliation.

Christina's guards were no ordinary men; their efficiency spoke volumes.

Connor narrowed his eyes slightly. He hadn't expected Christina to step in on his behalf, though the pendant in his hand—the broken serpent now revealing a dragon—reminded him of the truth. The seal was lifted. The Dragon Sovereign had returned.

"Connor, who are these two?" Christina asked, turning to look at Michael and Sandra.

Before Connor could respond, Sandra shrieked, "So that's it, Connor! No wonder you agreed to divorce my daughter so easily. Turns out you've been keeping some vixen on the side! You shameless little—"

Her tirade was abruptly cut off by a slap. Christina had raised her hand without hesitation.

She wasn't a woman to suffer insults lightly.

Sandra stumbled back, clutching her cheek where a vivid handprint had appeared. "How dare you hit me! Do you know who I am? I'm Iris Goldwyn's mother, you wretched—"

"Kill them! Michael, avenge me!" she shrieked, directing her venom at Michael.

Michael, still bloodied and furious, charged toward Christina.

Yet before he could reach her, one of the black-suited guards sent him flying with a single kick. His body crashed into the solid wooden door behind him, leaving a deep dent.

Michael's scream of pain echoed through the room as he writhed on the floor, clutching what was surely a broken arm.

"You're vicious," Sandra spat, pointing an accusing finger at Christina and Connor. "You'll pay for this! Do you know who my daughter is? You'll regret—"

"Shut her up," Christina said, her voice calm but sharp as a blade.

The guard stepped forward, his expression mechanical, ready to carry out her command.

Connor raised a hand. "Let them go."

Christina immediately gestured for her guard to stand down.

"Just you wait!" Sandra hissed, supporting Michael as they readied to leave. But when she reached for the framed calligraphy on the ground, Connor's voice stopped her.

"Leave it."

Her face darkened. "You've already beaten Michael, and now you're taking what belongs to us?"

Connor's lips curled into a faint smirk. "Since when did my calligraphy become yours?"

Sandra froze. She had no retort.

Christina gave a subtle nod, and one of the guards retrieved the framed calligraphy from Sandra's grasp.

"You'll regret this! Both of you!" Sandra screeched. "You cheating pair of nobodies—just wait! You'll pay for crossing me!"

"Teach her a lesson," Christina commanded, her patience evidently at its limit.

Sandra's bravado crumbled instantly. Clutching her son, she made a hasty retreat, not daring to utter another word.

As the commotion settled, Christina's eyes landed on the calligraphy in her hand. Her expression shifted, a flicker of awe breaking through her composed demeanor.

"Is this... the work of Lior Everhart? An authentic piece?" she murmured.

She glanced at the calligraphy, and Christina's expression instantly changed. She gasped, "That vulgar woman actually has a genuine work by Lior Everhart!"

"That's mine." Connor reached out his hand.

"No!"

In a blink, the domineering Christina morphed into a softer, almost fragile figure, clutching the calligraphy to her chest as if it were a lifeline.

"Connor, please let me have it. My grandfather loves Lior Everhart's work. If I gift this to him, he'll be so thrilled he might even dance with joy. I'm begging you."

Christina's enchanting eyes gleamed, her gaze so heartbreakingly sincere that it would have undone any man.

Her grandfather, a man of immense status, owned only one piece by Lior Everhart. He kept it enshrined in his study, treating it like a priceless relic. Yet those infamous three characters—Stupid Old Geezer!—were far from elegant or poetic, a far cry from the calligrapher's true brilliance.

But this masterpiece before her now, Spring's Grace, was a work of undeniable refinement and grace—worthy of being the crown jewel of any collection.

"I'll buy it. Name your price," Christina coaxed, even pulling at Connor's sleeve like a playful child.

"Forget it, take it," Connor said, resigned. For Tom's sake, he would let her have it.

Christina's face lit up with joy as she hurriedly tucked the frame in her arms.

"So, what exactly do you need my help with?" Connor asked.

Christina's urgency resurfaced.

"Oh, right," she said, snapping out of her momentary daze. Her voice dropped, grave and hurried. "Yesterday, over ten employees from Drakhar Inc had lunch in the cafeteria. Not long after, they were struck with agonizing stomach pains—vomiting, convulsing—it was chaos.

"The doctors were baffled. They're calling it some kind of strange illness, but they don't have a clue how to treat it. Now, all those employees are in a coma, teetering between life and death. If they don't make it…" Christina hesitated, her eyes clouding with worry. "The fallout would be catastrophic for Drakhar Inc. A scandal like this could sink us."

Connor stayed quiet, his eyes narrowing slightly as he processed her words. After a brief pause, he nodded. "All right. Take me to them."

Though his mystical powers were gone, his unparalleled mastery of medicine had not faded.

It wasn't long before they arrived at Balein Hospital, Abnerhaven's finest medical facility, built with significant backing from the Astor family.

At the entrance of the intensive care unit, two burly men in black suits stood blocking the doorway.

"Ms. Christina, Mr. Jay already brought in Abnerhaven's top doctor, Alexander Fleming. He's handled everything. There's no need for you to go inside," one of them said, stepping forward.

"Where is Dr. Fleming now?" Christina asked.

"He finished the treatment and is having tea with Mr. Jay in the lounge."

Christina turned to Connor. "Should we check it out anyway?"

Connor glanced through the small window, his gaze sharp and calculating. "Yeah. We're going in."

"Step aside!" Christina commanded, her gaze sharp.

"Ms. Christina, Mr. Jay gave strict orders. No one's allowed inside. Don't make this harder than it has to be…" The man looked genuinely uneasy.

Smack!

Without warning, Christina's hand shot out, slapping him hard across the face. Her expression didn't even flinch. "I said, get out of my way."

The two men exchanged glances, their resolve crumbling instantly. They stepped aside without another word.

Once inside, Connor observed the scene. Thirteen people lay sprawled on hospital beds, their faces twisted in pain. A faint, dark aura clung to their chests, where dozens of silver needles had been precisely inserted.

"What's going on here?" Christina demanded.

The man in the black suit quickly responded, "Dr. Fleming said they were poisoned. Those needles are detox needles. They're supposed to draw out the toxins over two hours. If anyone removes them early, the poison won't clear, and—"

He stopped mid-sentence, his face draining of color.

Connor had already stepped forward. With a calm but decisive motion, he began pulling the needles out one by one, his movements so swift and sure it left no room for protest.

"What the hell are you doing?" The two bodyguards lunged forward to stop Connor. "Stand down!" Christina's sharp glare stopped them in their tracks. She turned to Connor, her voice edged with concern. "Are you sure about this?" Connor gave a small, confident nod, not breaking his focus as he removed the silver needles from another patient. By the time he reached the eleventh bed, the door to the room burst open. An elderly man in a flowing gray robe, his long white beard swaying with every hurried step, stormed inside. "Stop this madness!" the old man barked, his voice laced with authority. His whiskers practically bristled as he marched up to Connor, shoving him aside with surprising force. "Do you have any idea what you're doing? Are you trying to kill them all?" Connor turned, unruffled, to face the furious elder. "Are you Dr. Fleming?" The old man puffed up his chest. "That's me!" Dr. Alexander Fleming, the legendary physician of Abnerhaven, was a name even Connor h

While Connor was still at the hospital, Sandra and Michael were already on their way in an ambulance. Sandra was fuming, nearly beside herself with rage. She never imagined that Connor, who had always been so deferential to her, would dare lay a hand on her. And not just her—he had beaten Michael to a pulp. Before they even reached the hospital, Sandra was already on the phone with Iris, complaining bitterly. "Mom, what is it? I'm in the middle of a meeting. Can we talk later?" Iris whispered. Sandra, shrill and panicked, yelled into the phone, "Iris, how can you still be in a meeting? Something huge has happened! That bastard Connor has completely lost it!" "Mom, what happened?" Iris's tone sharpened with concern. Between sobs and sniffling, Sandra began to wail, "Michael and I went to talk to Connor about that calligraphy masterpiece. But the moment he heard it was a genuine work by Lior Everhart, he went crazy and tried to steal it from us! "We refused to give it to hi

"Ha ha ha ha..." As Christina recalled the scene from earlier, she couldn't help but burst into laughter. Dr. Fleming had knelt on the ground, begging Connor with tears streaming down his fearful face, utterly humiliated. And Uncle Jay, who had always been at odds with her, was standing there, his face as dark as the bottom of a pot. After all, Dr. Fleming had been invited by Uncle Jay, while Connor was her choice, each representing their own face and pride. Clearly, this time, Uncle Jay had lost all face in front of her. "Hey, why did you save Dr. Fleming? He couldn't even figure out the cause of the illness, but acted all grand, he deserves to die," Christina nudged Connor with her elbow. Connor, with a calm expression, replied, "He's a traditional doctor. It's normal for him not to see the insects." "But you're also a traditional doctor. How could you see it?" Christina asked, intrigued. Connor smiled faintly. "Don't compare me to others. It's... not fair." "You—"

"Hahaha, Iris, you finally got rid of that useless piece of trash, Connor! How wonderful! What a great bit of news to hear just as I get back..." A woman in a professional outfit, wearing black stockings, smiled widely. Her name was Evelyn Vesper, Iris's cousin, and the vice manager at Iris Pharmaceuticals. Since Iris had risen to fame, Evelyn had been placed in the company by Sandra to help her out. "Evelyn, actually..." Iris wanted to share her thoughts with Evelyn. But then she hesitated. The words would surely reach Sandra's ears by the next day. Evelyn patted Iris's shoulder. "Iris, you've made the right choice. I've been telling you to divorce him for ages. That useless man would only drag you down. Now that he's out of the picture, you'll be able to soar." A smile finally appeared on Iris's face. This was exactly the kind of praise she wanted to hear. Now, all she needed to do was prove to Connor that she would only get more successful. "By the way, how did thing

Iris and the others were stunned. Connor had so many invitations! What was even more shocking was how he treated them—those invitations, which they considered symbols of high status, were casually tossed aside like trash. "What's he trying to prove? Those invitations must be fake," Evelyn was the first to speak. Kurt nodded. "Even the richest guy in Abnerhaven can only score five invitations from the Astor family. But look at this pile—almost a hundred. Not even the wealthiest people here, could get their hands on that many." Evelyn sneered. "What a joke. Fake invitations just to show off. Connor, are you trying to make Iris regret leaving you by inflating your worth?" Connor smiled. It was almost amusing, how these people's imaginations ran wild. But at this moment, Iris's attention was fixed on Christina. She was simply too dazzling. Her beauty, her figure, her presence—nothing about her fell short, even surpassing Iris herself in every way. Iris had always been confide

Christina and Iris faced off, their words slicing through the air like daggers. Christina had called Iris a scandalous mistress, and Iris had fired back, labeling Christina as shameless. A wager had been made, and Connor could only shake his head at the absurdity of it all. Sitting in the car, he glanced at the beautiful woman beside him and muttered, "A business magnate like you, and you're still playing childish games with bets?" Christina smiled slightly, her lips curving. "A war between women is something you wouldn't understand." Connor shrugged, unconvinced. "I've got nothing left. How am I supposed to surpass Kurt in just one month? Don't blame me if you lose." Christina blinked, her crescent-shaped eyes gleaming. "I'm confident we'll win. I believe in you." Connor narrowed his eyes. His ex-wife had discarded him like a piece of trash, and yet here Christina was, treating him like treasure. "Two hours until the gala starts. We should go in," Christina said, checking

Christina smiled. Her eyes curved into two crescent moons, and her lips arched into a graceful line. Was there anything in the world more absurd than this? Iris had been elevated to such heights by Connor, only to believe it was her own doing. Then, without hesitation, she kicked Connor aside and chose someone like Kurt instead. "But Ms. Astor, how could Iris have failed to notice Connor's silent contribution over three years?" Christina's secretary, Jessie Meyer, asked with a puzzled expression. "Does Peggy, who cleans the office, have a large mole on her face?" Christina asked suddenly. Jessie was momentarily stunned. After thinking for a moment, she replied, "I don't recall." Christina narrowed her eyes. "We see Peggy every day, yet you don't even know if she has a mole on her face." "Ms. Astor, how is that related?" "You don't notice Peggy because you don't see her as someone important. Even though you see her every day, her features don't register with you. The sam

The contract amount with Valence Pharmaceuticals was monumental—a collaboration project worth a staggering 1.5 billion dollars. Among the items in the agreement, Iris Pharmaceuticals' flagship product, the Crystal Breath Cough Syrup, accounted for a significant 60 percent of the deal—roughly 1 billion dollars. What stood out even more was the contract clause specifying a penalty for breach of agreement: ten times the amount of the violated sum. Without Connor's restoration of the magic array, the essential ingredient for the product, the Elderglow Herb, would inevitably wither entirely. When Iris Pharmaceuticals failed to produce its flagship product, the breach would lead to a compensation fee of… 10 billion dollars. 10 billion—where could Iris possibly procure that kind of money? Even if she sold off the entire company, she wouldn't be able to cover such a colossal debt. Perhaps if Kurt had a shred of conscience and decided to bundle Celestmere Corporation together with Iris

After all, she needed to raise money, and if her relatives could profit along with her, why not?"How much do you need, Iris?" Kurt asked."About 170 million dollars.""170 million?"The Goldwyn family was shocked. They were used to dealing with tens of thousands, not millions. How could they possibly come up with that much?Kurt was equally stunned. Even if he emptied all his savings, he would only have 130 million. But Iris Pharmaceuticals was sure to grow by ten times, and the more they invested, the more they stood to gain.Kurt had already discussed this with his father, who was also optimistic about Iris Pharmaceuticals.Kurt decided to take out his father's savings as well and buy sha

The collaboration between Valence Pharmaceuticals and Iris Pharmaceuticals had been his doing. Yet Kurt had shamelessly claimed the credit.Bang!Sandra slammed the table with her palm, glaring at him. Although she didn't see Connor anywhere, which left her feeling an inexplicable emptiness, the emotion was quickly replaced by immense joy.She had just returned from the headquarters of Valence Pharmaceuticals, having signed a billion-dollar collaboration contract. This meant that Iris Pharmaceuticals was on the brink of soaring to unprecedented heights of success. The house was bustling with celebration. Relatives had come to congratulate her, and laughter filled the air—except for Michael, who sat with his arm in a cast, his face twisted in resentment. Connor left in a storm of frustration. The sight of a young girl's blood carried an undeniable implication, but it wasn't his doing. Christina had overstretched and broken her own hymen and pinned the blame on him, even insisting that he take responsibility. How absurd.Still, one thing caught him off guard—this stunning, elegant heiress, renowned for her beauty and charm, was a virgin! Beneath her captivating exterior was a woman who had preserved her purity. As opposed to Iris who appeared cold and aloof, a goddess in demeanor. Yet behind closed doors, she was something else entirely. It was all about contrast. Women, Connor realized, could never be judged solely by their appearances. Behind every mask lay a different truth.Thinking further, it made sense. Christina had ascended to the pinnacle of the business world at such a young age, likely pouring all her time and energy into her career.
