(Vera)

A scream left my lips as I looked at Ezra. His eyes were wide open, but he was dead. My heart thundered as I turned around to see one of the guards pressing his gun against Mateo's back. Jace was aiming his gun at the other guard.

"What the fuck are you-" I growled out. I wanted to kill him right now. I was this close to finding out where Lili was and this bastard was the reason Ezra was now dead. I stared at the blood pooled around him and wince. No matter what, he was my friend, and now he was dead. I wanted to rip this man's hands off for killing Ezra and now pointing the same gun at my mate.

The guard shook his head, looking angry and anxious, too. My stomach twitched nervously. "Let her go, or I will shoot the Prince. Once she is safely away from this place, the Prince will be safe too."

I growled in anger as I whirled around to stare at him. "What did she pay you? We can pay you double that. You don't have to die for these women."

"I don't want to die for them. No on

(Mateo) I still couldn't believe that Jace was dead. Just thinking about him was making me feel like I had somehow failed as a Prince, failed as his friend. He had been with me for a long time, and... I shook my head, trying hard not to think about how pale and blue he looked. After talking with mom and dad about Tymeria, and everything else, Vera and I walked to my room. She sighed as she sat down on the bed, arching her back. She looked weary and sad, too, and I knew losing Ezra was hard for her, as well. Even though he was a traitor, he was a friend. "He was more..." Shade growled. It was stupid to get jealous of a dead man. Shade shrugged. "Your mom looked so sad," she whispered, and I looked at her with a sigh. Her eyes were closed, and her head was tilted up. "Tymeria was her friend, or so she thought. And you look just as sad," I said as I walked towards her and pulled her towards me. "So many lives lost today. I- I didn't want this to happen. I know Ezra was on Orna's si

(Orna) I stilled. My eyes met the hard eyes of the woman walking in. The eyes were like gleaming metal, and there was no love lost in there. It had been a while since I had met her face to face. "I have trained you from the very first day for this, and still you failed me, Orna. You failed me. You failed all of us," she said in a voice that sounded disappointed. She was the only one I wanted to impress and her disappointment cut like a sharp knife. I felt like I had been hit in the stomach. I took a staggering step back as I looked at her. My mentor. She was what I had closer to a mother, and because of Vera... "Because of Vera," Kendra, my dragon snorted, tilting her head. "The girl is what? 18?" I could feel her derisiveness and disdain. "22," I said with a wince. She was just a little girl, a little girl I made from the very first moment I killed her mother. I molded her, I shaped her into the shapes I wanted. First with the help of Hegen, and then Ezra. I did everything I h

(Vera)My dad looked agitated and anxious as he kept telling me to find her, whoever she was.Who was she? And if she was real, why was she in Blackstone Hall?I called for the nurse when my dad kept muttering the same thing. She saw that he was too vexed and gave him a small dose of sedative to calm him down, and soon he fell asleep, but I couldn’t stop my thoughts from running in all the directions. He looked so old and weak. I pulled the blanket up before I walked back to the palace, thinking about the girl. His voice kept ringing inside my head over and over. I couldn't ignore the nagging suspicion in my gut. I had a feeling about who it might be.I didn’t know where I was going or what I was doing until I was standing in front of the guards.“Miss. Rhys? What are you doing here?” the guard asked me. “I want to go talk with Tymeria. Let me in.”“But the Prince…”“The Prince won’t mind. I have something important that I need to talk with her. Let me in, please,” I said in my most

(Vera) Arax and I searched for a long time around the shores and the river, but we didn’t find anyone. Her scent was too strong when we swooped down, but it wasn’t as potent when we reached the river. The water must have probably washed away her scent and her. With a deep sigh, I motioned Arax to go up. With Nova’s claws, she picked up the small rock where we found blood stains, and then Arax and I flew back to the palace.“What are we going to tell Blaine? I don’t think I have the strength to look into his eyes and tell him.” Nova looked agitated. I had no idea what I was going to tell him. I knew he missed her and losing Izza would hurt him. I just hoped he would be able to take the hurt and come out of it.When we reached the palace grounds, we quickly shifted behind the woods and dressed.“So, are you going to tell Blaine?”“I don’t know what I should tell him. She isn’t anywhere in the river, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t alive,” I said to Arax as he ran his fingers through h

But she will know the answers to your questions."Blaine finally took his hands away, trying to calm down, but I could see the flicker of emotions in his eyes. He looked broken.Caden's words hung heavily in the air for a few minutes as we stood there in silence, contemplating our next move. Blaine and Mateo exchanged a quick glance before turning their attention back to Caden, their eyes, both green, but both so different from each other's narrowing at his face."She isn't going to tell us anything. We have been questioning her, but she barely tells us anything, except goading us," I said with a frown and Caden winced."I can try to talk with her?" Caden's eyes were questioning."It is worth a shot," Mateo said as he placed his hand on Blaine's arms, trying to calm him down, but Blaine was still snarling, his face

If you don't want to read, do not read. This chapter will not clear everything up, because like I said, I still have another book to write. With that being said, go on, and you will see some of you confusions answered here. ONLY SOME, though. Wink, wink.***(Vera) I saw Orna's body going still in my arms as her eyes stared straight into mine. There was no anger left in her eyes, and mine, as well. I gently closed her eyes as I looked at her.I could hear her softly reading the stories to me. Soft and gentle. Her eyes would always be fierce though. I remembered the marks on that special book. She called it her special book. I had never seen a book like that anywhere else. One time when I asked Orna about it, she said there was no other book like this in the entire universe."Sleep tight, auntie. May you find your peace i

I heard the growls and roars and ear-splitting cries, but Shade couldn't get away from the dragons continuously attacking Raek and him. When I saw Vera going into the clearing and Orna's dragon following her, my heart fell to my stomach. I was nervous, agitated. Shade tried to break away from the dragons around us, but I just couldn't. They were fast, fierce and unrelenting.I had a feeling they wanted to keep us away from Orna and Vera for whatever's reason they had."Don't worry, she can take care of herself," Shade said as he took a swing at a massive green dragon. She was quick, and she was ruthless, but Shade was hungry for blood. (Vera) Orna shrunk her nose, her eyes flashing in irritation."Just hand me the crown, Vera." I looked at the woman I had once loved with everything. I loved her just as much as I loved my mother. I looked more like her than my own parents. "I don't want to hurt you. I never wanted to-"I scoffed. "Liar."She gave me a frustrated groan.I couldn't forget the nights she sat by my bed, reading me stories and how much I enjoyed every moment I spent with her. Now, there was nothing between us. Only this chasm of anger and rage and bitterness. She would never understand why I hated her so much. Not just because she used me, but because she chose something else over me. Not because she wanted the crown, but because she wanted it, knowing that my death was the payment for her power. Was she that power hungry?I shook my head with a glare in her direction. "Why? I would be dead either way, wouldn't I? You won't care what happened to me. As long as you get your power, you have no qualms about

I didn't know who talked, but I had a feeling they were hiding in the crowd.I closed my eyes as I felt the magic of the crown. A soft chant left my lips. "Please protect them, Freyr," I whispered as I shook my head. There was another loud, thunderous explosion that rocked the ballroom, causing the chandeliers to sway and the guests to scream in terror. I stood up, my heart jolting in anger. I had anticipated this, but it still made me angry.Chaos erupted around as people scattered away from their seat and clamored around in fear. There was too much noise, too many people, but I knew that I had to stay calm. I looked at my family and friends in the front of the line and they all nodded as I saw them moving between the panicked people, trying to talk to them and calm them.Mateo immediately stepped in front of me, shielding me from harm,

She wasn't really there, but he could feel the ice running through his body, despite the fire that was always burning inside him." I read from the book, and the girl grumbled under her breath, pushing her plate back. I ignored her as I turned the page. "With this blood and the last of my daughter's blood, I bind your daughters' powers to the crown. As long as the magic hums in the crown, as long as Azura's blood runs through the veins of her children, you will never get what you want."Estrild's laughter rang out as she watched her three daughters grabbing on to their stomachs. The pain in their eyes was evident. She felt their pain as if it was hers.""They deserve the pain," Lili said as
