Aniya was on her knees on the bed, resting heavily on her two hands as they held on to the sheets tightly while her silky black hair fell over the sides of her face, wet and glistering with sweat.
Her full breasts dangled slightly as the man behind her thrusted into her over and over again. She took it all in, her eyes closed, her pink round lips, slightly parted.
All the room had to light it up was a dim lantern on the dressing table, yet the images before Belladonna seem to burn her eyes.
"Oh... Lytio." She heard Aniya whisper through trembling lips and she looked up at the face of the man that was behind.
Indeed, it was her Mr Perfect.
Lytio's hairy chest was glistering with sweats, his slim hands firm on Aniya's small waist, pulling her closer to himself, all his attention on what he was doing.
Belladonna took a step back instinctively, her lips pressed together tightly, her eyes blank while her heart crushed into many pieces.
"Oh... Lytio." Aniya moaned again and she opened her eyes. "Ly--" her voice trailed off when she saw Belladonna by the door.
Her big brown eyes widened with shock and their eyes locked as they shared an intense gaze.
One was of fear, shock and shame and the other, just blank.
But this lasted for only a second.
Because despite the initial shock, at that moment, Aniya's body gave into pleasure, she arched her back and her eyes rolled shut. Tears running down her small checks as her loud moan filled the room.
Belladonna gulped, walked out slowly then closed the door.
She had seen enough.
While she tried to maneuver through the dark in her voluminous gown, she accidentally knocked over the small table in the sitting room and a bottle smashed to the ground.
The smell of alcohol filled the air. She looked back at her door, knowing that the noise would have now alerted Lytio of a presence in house asides them, but she didn't want to see him.
So with her face firm and determined, she raced out of the house.
While she ran and ran, she couldn't stop thinking about everything she had just witnessed.
She knew she was hurt but some how, some way, she just couldn't cry. She couldn't scream, she couldn't do anything.
She had spent two years of her life with Lytio, being with him ever since she was 19 and she had been sure that he loved her and only her.
All her life, she had loved her sister too. In whatever she did, she had always thought of Aniya first.
How could they do this to her?
At that moment, her gown got intertwined with a twig on the floor, she tripped and fell on her back into a puddle of mud.
She didn't struggle to get up, instead she laid in the mud like that, allowing it to soak into her gown and her hair, while she looked up blankly at the stars in the sky.
How could they do this to her?
She couldn't process her feelings but she knew they were overwhelming, so much that she felt numb. She wished she could be angry or sad or something.
Anything.
But she couldn't be any of that. She just felt really numb.
How dare they do this to her?
***
After what seemed like hours, she stood up and looked around only to discover that this was the children's open playground.
No wonder no one had been here to question her presence.
She started walking back home, not paying attention to anyone she met on the way.
When she got home this time around, the door was locked and she had to knock to get in.
The sitting room was lit with a bright lantern set on the table.
Her parents were sitting on one end of the only long chair in the sitting room, talking to Aniya who was sitting on the other end of the same chair, though naked, was now wrapped in Belladonna's bedsheet.
She looked up at Belladonna and quickly looked away, her eyes planted on the floor, her fair skin giving her away as her cheeks turned fairly red with embarrassment and shame.
Immediately they noticed her presence, they all became quiet.
Her mother, Isa - a plump, short woman, with big brown eyes and black low cut hair- eyed her with a disgust.
She pinched her upturned nose together and shook her head. "You look hideous, child. It was just cheating, the world hasn't ended yet."
Belladonna smiled, making the dry mud that had splashed on her face crack a little bit.
That wasn't surprising at all. Her mother had never been one to support her in anything.
"Do you have anything to say to me, Father?" She looked at Jasper, the forty-one year old man sitting next to her mother. He had a pot belly that his fading brown buttoned shirt managed to hide away, and small strands of grey in his low cut hair. He was a little fat too but taller than Isa by a couple of inches.
The man sighed heavily and shook his head.
Belladonna wasn't surprised by that either. He hardly ever had anything to say.
"Goodnight."
With that, she left for her room. As she moved away from them, she heard them starting to talk again in hush whispers.
When she got into her room, she didn't take a bath though, she just laid down on her bed - the very one Lytio and Aniya had betrayed her in.
It made her question herself.
How long had they been meeting each other?
How long had they been doing this behind her back?
Had she been foolish all along?

Belladonna woke up the next morning but instead of feeling as dirty as last night, she felt a little clean and even smelt different.
Her body didn't feel sticky with dry dirty mud, nor did her hair smell of it.
She yawned, then opened her eyes.
Like a dream, Lytio was looking back at her with those dreamy chestnut eyes and wonderful smile.
She smiled back at him, raising her hand to touch his oblong face.
This must be a dream though, she was sure of that because there was no way Lytio was in her room. He had never even been inside her room before.
She looked down at the loose white shirt he wore and his black pair of trousers.
Her smile fell slowly as an image of his naked beige body pounding into Aniya, flashed in her mind.
She withdrew her hand, one that never made it to touching his face.
She remembered everything once again and her face became grim.
She sat up slowly, resting her back against the wall, her face blank.
Sensing the change, Lytio took a step back, looking around the room, his hand drove through his golden curly hair before scratching the back of his neck.
"You are finally awake, my love." He smile nervously, revealing his perfect white teeth, but her face remained blank.
He had never seen her like this before.
"What are you doing here?"
"I snuck in through the window to see you early this morning but..." he subconsciously looked out the window at the raising sun and back at her. "You had so much mud in your hair, your clothe and your..." he pointed at her bed instead of saying it, because he suddenly lacked the courage to. "I helped you to get it out."
"What do you want, Lytio?"
He blinked, tears misting over his black eyes. "I love you, Bell. I would never do anything purposely to hurt."
She scoffed.
"You don't say. I wonder how long you two have been rolling naked in my sheets."
He gulped, his eyes filled with hurt. He took a step forward.
"Once, just once and it was a mistake. I swear on my life."
She arched an eyebrow at him. "I heard that is what they always say when they get caught."
He sighed heavily, mumbling underneath his breath and pacing in front of her before he stopped and stared back at her.
"Everything that happened yesterday night was a mistake, you have to believe me."
She curved her lips sideways, then shrugged nonchalantly. "The way you held her waist yesterday to me seemed pretty intentional. Are you sure about that?"
"I was here to look for you because the seamstress told my father that the changes you requested for had been made to your gown. I wanted to take you along to go and try it on and confirm that everything was to your liking. It was getting dark, you were not back and your parents invited me inside.
They offered me food and a bottle of alcohol."
Belladonna squinted her eyes at that statement, she remembered the bottle of alcohol she had accidentally broken yesterday and she went still.
She knew where this was going and she didn't like it one bit.
"And I refused because I don't drink. You know I can't, I'm really lightweight."
She knew that.
One shot of alcohol was enough to make a complete fool out of him.
"They agreed with me and offered me juice instead but then, the juice tasted a little weird." His breathing was start to get louder.
It was obvious that this was laborious for him to explain, that this was killing him.
"After a while, they left and your sister arrived. I started feeling really strange, I needed to lay back. She helped me to your room, so I could wait for you there but she started behaving strangely and..."
"You decided that while you waited for me, it wouldn't be so bad if your penis," she casted a quick glance at that part of his trousers, then looked up to his ashen face, "...took a little trip down Aniya's vagina."
His golden bushy eyebrows shot up in anger and frustration. He dashed forward, towering slightly over her, as he held her face in-between his sweaty wrinkling palms.
"Bell, this was all a set up! Don't you see?!"
"...I was drunk and the timing of your sister..."She gritted her teeth. The feeling of this betrayal by her family felt mightier more than yesterday's. How could her family do this to her? When she spoke though, her voice was controlled and firm. "I see that. I see it all. But I am not about to cry over split milk."Lytio froze for a split second before his eyebrows furrowed in confusion and he straightened up, his hands falling to his sides."Your parents have discussed with mine on the 'incident'."'Incident? Of course, that was how they would refer to it.' Belladonna thought but she instead, she asked, "and...?""Bell, I want you to know that I love you very much.""I am sure that wasn't what they concluded on."Lytio clenched and unclenched his fists before digging it into his pockets. "I have to marry Aniya. It is for the best. For my reputation and your sister's. Also to prevent any more unfortunate incidents.""Of course. Do exactly what they want.""I don't have a choice. D
It was a long black leather whip splited into eight pieces. It swept through the air and landed on her back. A gasp of pain escaped her lips as she tumbled to the floor, her long black curly hair scattered to the sides of her face. She immediately curled up on the floor, her folded arms protecting her face. She knew how this went. This wasn't the first time, nor the second or third. She couldn't even count how many times her mother had done this to her and she knew this wouldn't be the last.Isa swung the whip, striking it countlessly against her, on her back, her hands, anywhere it landed on. She was breathing heavily and although her hands were arching her from how long she had been flogging her, she was blinded by so much anger that she just couldn't stop."H-how-- dare you?!"The beating continued, then Belladonna heard her dress ripping from how much the beating was, the whip cutting into her flesh and blood seeping out of the long cuts. She bit her lips till she tasted blood
It read: "Just wait for me, my love. I will find a way for us to be together again." Lytio must have had his brain replaced with one of the fishes that he captured to make such ridiculous promises. She looked at the piece of paper blankly once again and muttered to herself, "such terrible handwriting." She threw it into the fire, where some women were cooking for another wedding. Then left for the library. The moment she stepped into the library, the Librarian greeted her. "There you are, child. My wife told me everything. That mother of yours is a witch." Gladies, his wife, always some how knew everything that was going on in Inaymi. Belladonna had always thought they were a match made in heaven. While she knew about the things going on in town presently, her husband knew very well about the things that happened in the past. Soulmates, she often called them. "And that sister of yours is a snake. Spineless man, the father you have." "Technically, he is not my father."
Everyone fell on their kneels immediately, their heads bowed. Although Belladonna had been a little clumsy about it, she had managed not to draw any attention to herself. "Rise." The Dragon King commanded, his voice was deep and it commanded respect, a sought of authority that couldn't be ignored even if one dared. Indeed, even a flick of his finger resonated power. They rose up to their feet."Sit."They did. Then the Dragon King started walking towards the Possible Potentials section, the woman who had arrived earlier following after him.Belladonna quickly casted her gaze to the ground, her arms around herself protectively. Then she heard them stop right in front of them."Begin." The Dragon King said to the woman that was now standing behind. She stepped forward, looking from one lady to another while she went through the space between the benches. "Up." She commanded. Now that she wasn't announcing the presence of the King, her voice sounded firm yet sultry. The lady stood u
It was all a blur, right from the moment when she realized that she had failed herself and allowed herself to be chosen. All while the seven Potential Brides were led into the long carriage that had come to take them, while the carriage journeyed into the night, through the forest, down to the castle, while the ladies sat side by side, their hands curled up in-between their thighs, their eyes fixed to the carriage's floor under the strict gaze of the woman who had chosen them, until they finally got to the castle and stepped out of the carriage one after the other.Everything just felt like a huge blur.Belladonna had expected some dark, desolate castle with distant eerie sound of a forest, in the middle of no where. She had been wrong. Very wrong. The castle was the most beautiful building she had ever seen. There was a huge beautiful water fountain and a long colorful garden along the walkway. The lights illuminated the whole castle, making it look magical in combination with the
Just like that, she turned away, up the stairs and the servants started leading each down the hallway, to seven different doors. Everyone got a male and a female servant to help them to their door. The female servant helping Belladonna was a couple of inches shorter than she was, although she looked older, like she was in her early thirties. She had bags underneath her eyes and a few wrinkles by either side. The male servant on the other hand was just an inch or two taller than Belladonna. His face was calm and he seemed collected.Asides that, they were both wearing sought of deep blue uniform and they looked like as if they are well taken care of.Belladonna got the fifth door.Hung on it was the kind of slate which had a name carved on it. Moria Nakunriver. She furrowed her eyebrows at that. That was the name of the previous bride, the one who had authored the book containing all those rules she had read. The bride whom everyone had thought would be the last.Had this been her r
The landing would have been rough had she not landed on a bundle of blankets placed just at the bottom of this crazy tunnel."Making a run for it, Lady--""I wasn't..." She jumped, startled that she was still alive and that she hadn't fallen into a dungeon instead. She stood up, looking back at the man who was sitting by the dinning table, some distance away from her. He was oddly silent and her heart started to race. Was he looking at her and thinking she was absolutely useless? If so? Good."I admit, it was stupid." She chuckled but her mischief immediately died the moment she realized something. What if he was thinking of making her his dragon's meal and not sending her home instead. Her breath hitched, trying to rack her brain for exactly what she was still doing wrong.Too bad, she couldn't figure it out through his face because of his golden mask. Was he seething in angry or was he boiling over with rage. Her eyes grew wide the moment she realized she hadn't greeted."Your Ma
"A black gown? My Lady, you can not. The Choosing Ceremony is today."Ceremony? Belladonna scoffed, internally while she looked at herself in the mirror.'sounds more like a funeral.'She had cried so much for this past one week that she now felt absolutely drained and empty. Her eyes were red and puffy. If anything were to sadden her right now, she would have no tears to shed. After her outburst in the he presence of the King, she had decided to stay in her room without coming out for anything. Her servants Plea to Lady Kestra on her behalf had been denied, not that she cared to begin with, and the rumours were flying around that the King wouldn't pardon her disrespect in any form.Rumours said that she would indeed be a dragon's meal by the end of the Ceremony, which was to happen tonight. Her punishment was sure. The rumours also conveyed that Lady Piper would most likely be the bride as Lady Kestra was most pleased with her performance at her dinner test.As much as Belladonna did
A pregnant woman's unwanted friends were swollen feet. Eli would usually help her massage them just as he was doing now. She was reading a book to him and he listened with rapt attention. His paintings adored the room, a piano at one corner, her sewing equipment at another corner with two studies joined to the room.He chuckled at something she read and she rolled her eyes. She had become quite irritable lately, little things would get on her nerves. It was just an interesting change to watch, especially because food was usually the cure, all kinds of food in their weirdest combinations. He had tried one once, it was terrible. She snapped the book shut. “By Ignas, do go on. I take back my laughter.”She seemed to have something else on her mind though. “Do you think I’m fat?”He smiled, “Like I always say, you are not fat, you are just pregnant.”“So you would want me like this?”He chuckled, the sound throaty as he buried his face into the crook of her neck. He moved quickly, she c
Eli and Belladonna had come a long way. After death pays a visit, who would expect a joining ceremony? The trail was only hours ago and everything still felt shocking to Belladonna. She was the Kore and Eli was the right-hand man to the UnderLord. She was no longer a ghost but a High Realm that could move from one realm to another, and grant to only those who deserved it a second chance at life. She was a Kore with no realm of her own but one she must build from scratch. The Fate had dissolved the Kore’s realm after they based their judgment on the previous one. Luna and Ama had promised to help her in all ways they could and Belladonna was grateful for the offer. She was more excited about her ability to move from one realm to another though. She couldn’t wait to see her sister, Arlo, and Alaris even though they might not be able to see her. As Eli had told her, the UnderLord didn’t have a right-hand man for a very long time. Many Thanatos had been trying to acquire the position.
“She passed two tests!” Ama sprung up from her seat., “There must be something—““You are not one of this council,” the Ghost High Being turned to her sharply, “so keep your voice out of the decisions.” Belladonna's eyes widened. Two tests! So Eli—- Ah by Ignas, she had been right. Where was Eli? Why hadn’t they let him come in yet?Ama smirked, “Still holding a grudge, Phosi? I see.”“Passed the two tests? It is obvious that she has failed. The rules are the rules,” The Sea High Being spoke, “she has failed. Pass the judgment, I have places to be.”Failed? Belladonna felt that painful jolt in her heart. What were they even talking about?!The hall seemed to share the same confusion as Belladonna, they whispered amongst one another. “Failed?!” Luna snapped. “How did she fail? It is not her fault that her soul didn’t align——““The rules are the rules! And you are not a part of this Council, stay out of it!” The High Being of the Sea snapped. “End this already,” he said to the Fates,
The days that followed were fast and the training was tedious, Luna helped as much as she could, probably more than any mentor ever would. Life in the Moonrealm was wonderful, but for the things that shattered her peace. After training in the Moonrealm for two moons, Luna had not-so-pleasant news for her. Eli was to undergo a test too, a single test.“He has to fight the UnderLord and defeat him.”“Who will train him?”“The UnderLord.”There was no way the UnderLord would train Eli enough to be able to defeat him. “He chose him to be his master.”Belladonna paused. Eli was definitely plotting something.“Also, the failure of one is the failure of both of you.”Belladonna blinked, the times and the trails were against them but Eli was no fool. He definitely had something planned. ——-——-[TRIAL DAY]The first thing Belladonna saw when she stepped into the hall was a woman on her knees screaming in agony, while three faceless people with the staff in their hands stood around her, the
Preparation“It is believed that holding the title of the Kore is a curse and there is a reason for that. Everyone that becomes the Kore always has a terrible end.” Luna paused as if considering her next words before she finally spoke. “Reincarnation should be beautiful, not filled with so many problems. Reincarnation and second chances, do you not think so, Belladonna?”Belladonna nodded, wanting to know about the Kore already, but instead of continuing with what she had to say, Luna drew a line in thin air, and a floating lightly illuminated map unraveled between them. There were different floating objects on the map, probably to signify places. “For your third test, you must be chosen as an apprenticeship for one of the Realm Lords.”“Chosen?”“It is quite tricky as it is your soul that chooses for you and if the Realm Lord of the one your soul along with thinks you are fit, then you will have passed the third test.”“I don’t understand. Something seems to be missing. What about t
“What?!” Belladonna yelled, grabbing Ama’s wrists tightly with rage. “How could not tell me?!”“How dare you disrespect me?!” Ama snapped her hands away from Belladonna’s grip, fury blazing in her eyes as she started getting bigger, losing the frame she had fitted herself into. Belladonna stayed firm, her anger refusing her to feel fear. How dare they drag Aniya into this? How dare they? If she had known, she wouldn't— By Ignas, she wouldn't have done this!To ruin another’s life for the sake of her happiness? Never! No.Then Ama stopped, looked at the castle, and was back to normal in a flash as if a thought had flashed into her mind to make her reconsider. “I will spare you the wrath of my mate only this once. You will not disrespect me again,” She said firmly but those were words Belladonna couldn't hear. They sounded like echoes in the background. Anger changed into fear, not for her but for Aniya. She fell to her knees and wept. “You must reverse it. Please, I am begging. Ask f
“Eli.” Tears were streaming down her face now. Finally, they could touch but this moment wouldn’t last forever, and they intended to exploit it for as long as they could.“Do you love me, Donna?” His hand cupped the side of her face.“You know I love you.” She slipped her fingers through his hair which had grown longer than she remembered. She had certainly not seen all of the real him when he possessed Jyris’ body. Now, he looked so different. “By Ignas, I do. I love you, Eli.”“And I love you too. No amount of this torture, nor of passage of time will take that away. I grant you the permission to forget me. You need not feel any guilt, it will be the best way of loving me.”Belladonna wiped her tears away. “It is ironic, you begged me to choose you in Gaya’s garden and I did not, and now that I want to choose you, you are begging not to.” The words spilled quickly out of mouth, as they tried to make the best use of their borrowed time.A glimmer of a smile snaked into his eyes. “It
The journey to Eli’s dungeon felt like a repeat of past events, it was like a flash of what had happened after the Red Moon Ritual, a reminder of the time Alaris had led her to his dungeon. She had followed Alaris with worry and love for him in her heart, then she found him in chains and finally, she left his presence betrayed, sad, and a grounded hatred for him.It felt sickening to be in this type of situation again though under different circumstances. She wished it was over, she wished she had seen him and saved him. She heard his voice before she saw him. A shout filled with agony. Her heart clenched with pain as she prepared herself to see the worst. Ama stopped walking and Belladonna who was following her did the same. Why had they stopped? She couldn’t see Eli anywhere, in fact, she could barely see her surroundings; she could still hear his voice though, and that in itself was too painful to bear. What type of torture were they putting him through? Suddenly, the growls of
The next thing Belladonna knew, her blindfold was ripped away from her and she was tossed roughly to the floor, her hands and knees bearing the brunt of the action. She expected pain but that never came. Oh, of course. The room was lit with red dim lights, however for Belladonna who had stayed in the dark for too long, the light felt blinding. The structure of the hall seemed like a throne room but it was of such an intricate design that she had no time to access it, the only thing that caught her eye was the strange, massive, dangling bed-like structure with curtains, connected with a chain to the roof of the hall; she could only assume that, it was too dark to see into the distance above. She rose to her feet and froze when she heard growls and gnashing behind her and she turned to look back, frightened. This beast, she had seen it before. Four-legged with three heads of mighty wild dogs, rough rocky skin with visible maps of the lava contained within. Vicious and ready to kill.
