“The Vessel Holder was a bastard but I am not. Do not let her existence hurt you, mother, it is something she no longer has. She really tried to retain her body but I prevailed. My purpose keeps me—”

“What is your purpose?” The Queen snapped.

“To be sacrificed for the rest to be saved,” Belladonna answered readily.

The Queen’s hands cradled the surface of her daughter’s glass coffin. She swayed on her feet and Jyris’s father helped her stay stable.

Belladonna wondered whether there was a relationship between them. If it was something Jyris knew about, if it was another reason why he hated his Father, and most especially, if it was something she could use to her advantage.

Bori didn't act surprised.

She was probably overthinking the small gesture or maybe she wasn't.

Being here was driving her insane! She needed to go back to her room and check if her Shadow warrior was back. She needed to go back to Xinora’s gravestone to check for the Blood Dagger, just in case she had been burie

“How?”“We will tell you when you tell us the side you are on,” Jyris' father said. Thinking quickly, she asked how it was possible that they still had Lutya’s body unburnt when the White King had said he set her ablaze. “I helped with that,” Boro answered, then he continued. “It wasn't ordinary flames, it was one to tell the truth.”“How did you help with it?”Bori wasn't in Xinora’s memory, and Belladonna could feel that he was the one that had brought her here; the needed touch was acquired, but nothing had come out of it. So who exactly was he because she had seen nothing about him?It was different from trying to figure out Xinora’s relationship with Dogori. It wasn't like there was none, it was just like there was a block. But for Bori, it felt like there was none. “I am Dogori’s only apprentice. I have his trust and my ways that I intend to use for the freedom of all of Vestros from the hands of the White King.” He spoke with so much conviction and hatred for his teacher,

[Four Days To the Blood Moon]Morning. _______The time for breakfast had long passed. Belladonna knew this because she had waited in her room for an invitation and it didn't come. The White had not spoken to her since yesterday.Maybe Dogori had told him. Belladonna’s heart raced. There were other things she could have used the early hours of her morning for, but she was terrified that the White King would find her lurking around and looking for the Blood Dagger, which she now knew was with Dogori. Finding her in that way would definitely increase his suspicion and if he had none, then that would give him a reason to. It was agonizing to wait. She was done with this. She stood up, thinking of the offer the Queen had made her. It obviously wasn't a test, but then she couldn't tell how sick and twisted this castle was yet, so she had to be careful, and she had to send Alaris a message! Not here, though; she had to find a way to get out of the Castle to do that. The pain in her

Bori had strengthened the tattoo, a dragon being had been killed to do that. It was sad and an uncomfortable knowledge for Belladonna but it was necessary. She still hadn't been able to find a way to get out of the castle to send a message to Alaris. The White King still wasn't back yet, neither was Jyris. The Queen and the leader of the four Houses betraying the White King were happy to have her as a new acquisition to the weapons against their enemy.Bori warned Belladonna that after this, the only thing that would keep Xinora away was her acquiring the Death Gem and she had agreed to it. Tonight was, however, a very special night. It was the night for them to kill the White King. They had been planning it for a long time, poisoning him slowly and weakening him. Weakening him?!The White King Belladonna had encountered didn't look weak at all! If that was his weak state, she wondered what he really was like. “Is there anything I must do?”The Queen nodded. “Do not interfere.”

“No, I’m not.” Belladonna fired back as her eyes combed the room. The Blood dagger was still on the floor, glowing red from the blood it had drained. She was too far away from any weapon and Dogori was too powerful for her to outsmart him with such a move. “Father, he’s going to ruin everything!” she cried. ““I just saw his memory, I know it all.”So that was what he had done to Bori’s body with his staff? Belladonna’s throat tightened. She didn't know he could do that. This could ruin everything. “Your Majesty—”“Be Quiet, Dogori.” The White King said and rose from the bed. Belladonna let out a sigh of relief not just because he had just silenced Dogori but because he was now out of her space. Xinora had been deprived of contact with others to the point that she developed a strange attachment to her father; it had been nothing but a burden for Belladonna to play that role to keep her cover. “But your Majesty…”With a finger, the White King shifted the angle of Dogori's staff

Belladonna was right, Dogori had led them to his lair. There were bottles everywhere, skulls hanging from the ceiling, bones left and right, and an unpleasant smell in the air; maybe it was from the big pot on the fire in a corner of the room. There were lit candles hung on the wall, providing light to the room. In the midst of it all and fastening the chain around five people seated on the floor was Jyris. He raised his head when he saw them coming and when he saw her, he heaved a visible sigh of relief and flashed her a smile. The Rebellion in the Castle was certainly the emergency they had yesterday afternoon. They had definitely talked about it. Once again, Belladonna felt the feeling buzz in her veins. She had been so close to being discovered. “The Five Houses are against me, even my own.” The White King’s gaze zeroed on his wife who stared back at him with rage, her words a muffled noise against the piece of cloth that had been stuffed into her mouth, just like the rest of

Belladonna woke up to Jyris pulling her from the floor. They were still in the lair. She hadn't been out for too long. “Are you alright, child?” The White King’s voice sounded like it came from a distance, but it didn't because he was right here in front of her. She nodded because that was the only thing she could manage to do. Belladonna could still feel the sting in her hand from where the blade had cut her palm but it was no longer bleeding. It took her some moments to recollect herself, and when she finally did, there was a strange creature in front of her made of small red glowing lights tattered to each other in darkness; it was the shape of a giant man. Then it was gone, collected into a small bottle by Dogori. With her father touching her hair and looking amused about the glow it lacked, he explained to her that the army of the undead would multiply on the battlefield into a hundred, but for now, they would remain in the bottle and wouldn't be able to receive any command

It took the first rickety step before crashing into pieces beneath her and withering away. She had almost made it to the bed. Belladonna attempted to crawl her way forward but she was too tired and starting to feel really dizzy. Too many things had happened that night and it seemed that the magic she had just performed had further drained life out of her.Everything was moving too fast in her life. Also she had noticed that she didn't need to chanel to Xinora anymore. What she had just done was the same thing she would usually do with the creation of the shadow warriors. She had tried to give life to something before but it hadn't worked. But this time, it did even though that wasn't what she had planned at all. Dogori using her to summon that undead army might have something to do with it. Although, it clearly didn't last as long. The Death Gem was still needed. Belladonna wondered if it only worked on wooden structures. But those were how far her thoughts could get before she

Quickly Belladonna sent her blood dagger flying at him, trying to reach for her bottle in case that wouldn't work. She was scared that if she tried to use her magic - one that she had now discovered only worked on wood - she might pass out right here and that would just be plain stupid. A small cut would be enough for her blood dagger to drain him, she knew that. Unfortunately, her blood dagger had no effect on him and it fell to the floor. By Ignas, what?!Well that was alright, she was already undoing the cap of her bottle. But he grabbed her hands with those hands that had burnt the thieves and turned them into ashes. Surprisingly, they had no effect on her either. They both stared at each other in confusion. Suddenly, he gritted in pain and jammed his hand over his shoulder where the red light from beneath seeped out between his fingers. The pain was so much for him that he let her go. He huffed and turned sharply in another direction, as if he was expecting something. He ex

A pregnant woman's unwanted friends were swollen feet. Eli would usually help her massage them just as he was doing now. She was reading a book to him and he listened with rapt attention. His paintings adored the room, a piano at one corner, her sewing equipment at another corner with two studies joined to the room.He chuckled at something she read and she rolled her eyes. She had become quite irritable lately, little things would get on her nerves. It was just an interesting change to watch, especially because food was usually the cure, all kinds of food in their weirdest combinations. He had tried one once, it was terrible. She snapped the book shut. “By Ignas, do go on. I take back my laughter.”She seemed to have something else on her mind though. “Do you think I’m fat?”He smiled, “Like I always say, you are not fat, you are just pregnant.”“So you would want me like this?”He chuckled, the sound throaty as he buried his face into the crook of her neck. He moved quickly, she c

Eli and Belladonna had come a long way. After death pays a visit, who would expect a joining ceremony? The trail was only hours ago and everything still felt shocking to Belladonna. She was the Kore and Eli was the right-hand man to the UnderLord. She was no longer a ghost but a High Realm that could move from one realm to another, and grant to only those who deserved it a second chance at life. She was a Kore with no realm of her own but one she must build from scratch. The Fate had dissolved the Kore’s realm after they based their judgment on the previous one. Luna and Ama had promised to help her in all ways they could and Belladonna was grateful for the offer. She was more excited about her ability to move from one realm to another though. She couldn’t wait to see her sister, Arlo, and Alaris even though they might not be able to see her. As Eli had told her, the UnderLord didn’t have a right-hand man for a very long time. Many Thanatos had been trying to acquire the position.

“She passed two tests!” Ama sprung up from her seat., “There must be something—““You are not one of this council,” the Ghost High Being turned to her sharply, “so keep your voice out of the decisions.” Belladonna's eyes widened. Two tests! So Eli—- Ah by Ignas, she had been right. Where was Eli? Why hadn’t they let him come in yet?Ama smirked, “Still holding a grudge, Phosi? I see.”“Passed the two tests? It is obvious that she has failed. The rules are the rules,” The Sea High Being spoke, “she has failed. Pass the judgment, I have places to be.”Failed? Belladonna felt that painful jolt in her heart. What were they even talking about?!The hall seemed to share the same confusion as Belladonna, they whispered amongst one another. “Failed?!” Luna snapped. “How did she fail? It is not her fault that her soul didn’t align——““The rules are the rules! And you are not a part of this Council, stay out of it!” The High Being of the Sea snapped. “End this already,” he said to the Fates,

The days that followed were fast and the training was tedious, Luna helped as much as she could, probably more than any mentor ever would. Life in the Moonrealm was wonderful, but for the things that shattered her peace. After training in the Moonrealm for two moons, Luna had not-so-pleasant news for her. Eli was to undergo a test too, a single test.“He has to fight the UnderLord and defeat him.”“Who will train him?”“The UnderLord.”There was no way the UnderLord would train Eli enough to be able to defeat him. “He chose him to be his master.”Belladonna paused. Eli was definitely plotting something.“Also, the failure of one is the failure of both of you.”Belladonna blinked, the times and the trails were against them but Eli was no fool. He definitely had something planned. ——-——-[TRIAL DAY]The first thing Belladonna saw when she stepped into the hall was a woman on her knees screaming in agony, while three faceless people with the staff in their hands stood around her, the

Preparation“It is believed that holding the title of the Kore is a curse and there is a reason for that. Everyone that becomes the Kore always has a terrible end.” Luna paused as if considering her next words before she finally spoke. “Reincarnation should be beautiful, not filled with so many problems. Reincarnation and second chances, do you not think so, Belladonna?”Belladonna nodded, wanting to know about the Kore already, but instead of continuing with what she had to say, Luna drew a line in thin air, and a floating lightly illuminated map unraveled between them. There were different floating objects on the map, probably to signify places. “For your third test, you must be chosen as an apprenticeship for one of the Realm Lords.”“Chosen?”“It is quite tricky as it is your soul that chooses for you and if the Realm Lord of the one your soul along with thinks you are fit, then you will have passed the third test.”“I don’t understand. Something seems to be missing. What about t

“What?!” Belladonna yelled, grabbing Ama’s wrists tightly with rage. “How could not tell me?!”“How dare you disrespect me?!” Ama snapped her hands away from Belladonna’s grip, fury blazing in her eyes as she started getting bigger, losing the frame she had fitted herself into. Belladonna stayed firm, her anger refusing her to feel fear. How dare they drag Aniya into this? How dare they? If she had known, she wouldn't— By Ignas, she wouldn't have done this!To ruin another’s life for the sake of her happiness? Never! No.Then Ama stopped, looked at the castle, and was back to normal in a flash as if a thought had flashed into her mind to make her reconsider. “I will spare you the wrath of my mate only this once. You will not disrespect me again,” She said firmly but those were words Belladonna couldn't hear. They sounded like echoes in the background. Anger changed into fear, not for her but for Aniya. She fell to her knees and wept. “You must reverse it. Please, I am begging. Ask f

“Eli.” Tears were streaming down her face now. Finally, they could touch but this moment wouldn’t last forever, and they intended to exploit it for as long as they could.“Do you love me, Donna?” His hand cupped the side of her face.“You know I love you.” She slipped her fingers through his hair which had grown longer than she remembered. She had certainly not seen all of the real him when he possessed Jyris’ body. Now, he looked so different. “By Ignas, I do. I love you, Eli.”“And I love you too. No amount of this torture, nor of passage of time will take that away. I grant you the permission to forget me. You need not feel any guilt, it will be the best way of loving me.”Belladonna wiped her tears away. “It is ironic, you begged me to choose you in Gaya’s garden and I did not, and now that I want to choose you, you are begging not to.” The words spilled quickly out of mouth, as they tried to make the best use of their borrowed time.A glimmer of a smile snaked into his eyes. “It

The journey to Eli’s dungeon felt like a repeat of past events, it was like a flash of what had happened after the Red Moon Ritual, a reminder of the time Alaris had led her to his dungeon. She had followed Alaris with worry and love for him in her heart, then she found him in chains and finally, she left his presence betrayed, sad, and a grounded hatred for him.It felt sickening to be in this type of situation again though under different circumstances. She wished it was over, she wished she had seen him and saved him. She heard his voice before she saw him. A shout filled with agony. Her heart clenched with pain as she prepared herself to see the worst. Ama stopped walking and Belladonna who was following her did the same. Why had they stopped? She couldn’t see Eli anywhere, in fact, she could barely see her surroundings; she could still hear his voice though, and that in itself was too painful to bear. What type of torture were they putting him through? Suddenly, the growls of

The next thing Belladonna knew, her blindfold was ripped away from her and she was tossed roughly to the floor, her hands and knees bearing the brunt of the action. She expected pain but that never came. Oh, of course. The room was lit with red dim lights, however for Belladonna who had stayed in the dark for too long, the light felt blinding. The structure of the hall seemed like a throne room but it was of such an intricate design that she had no time to access it, the only thing that caught her eye was the strange, massive, dangling bed-like structure with curtains, connected with a chain to the roof of the hall; she could only assume that, it was too dark to see into the distance above. She rose to her feet and froze when she heard growls and gnashing behind her and she turned to look back, frightened. This beast, she had seen it before. Four-legged with three heads of mighty wild dogs, rough rocky skin with visible maps of the lava contained within. Vicious and ready to kill.
