I suddenly lost my ability to speak. Why does Stefano have this effect on me?

"Uhm…yay." I stuttered, tucking a lone strand of my hair behind my ears and looked away.

"Had a good meal?" He asked, putting away the cigarette.

I nodded because my mouth chose to be silent on its accord.

Stefano acknowledged my answer with a nod and he started walking up the stairs. I ran towards the direction and he halted, looking down at me and raising his eyebrows as if saying yes?

"What about the party?" I asked, my voice low. "Isn't that why I'm here?"

"Guess?" He winked at me. Typical Stefano was at it again with his antics.

I sighed and glared at him. I shook my head as if to shove the thought away. I was beginning to think that he had brought me here for another reason.

"What do you mean?" I asked, my brows furrowed.

"I said take a random guess."

I shook my head. "Nah, you're not going to do this right now." With the mischievous glint in his eyes, it looked like he was taking me for a fool. I mea

While I sat beside Stefano at the passenger's seat, I couldn't help but wonder where we heading. No information had been passed regarding the nature of the event.I took a small glance at him. Stefano raised his brows at me. The words died in my throat as I took in his handsomeness -gosh he was so beautiful but I had to restrain myself for complimenting him. I wasn't here for that, and I would be gone soon."Where are we heading to?" I looked at him briefly."A party," he shrugged. "I told Katrina I needed an escort and she asked If I was okay with you.""So you use different escorts each time you attend parties like this?" I didn't why I asked that but I'd loved to know the answer. I cracked my knuckles while anticipating his response."I have never needed an escort, Bella.""What changed?""I'll say my old man has been pressuring me to get a girlfriend, I was afraid he might kill me in my sleep if I show up to this party without a woman holding my hands." The way Stefano said the wo

"Marry me." Stefano demanded, catching me off guard. My face scrunched, trying to understand. "Why?""Marry me and you'll be compensated handsomely while I give you a job at my charity owned hospital." Stefano proposed, no hint of playfulness in his tone. I thought of his words for a minute, my heart pounding. "And what do you stand to gain?""My father's happiness, and maybe his respect. He's been on my neck to get a wife and the marriage could be my ticket to a position I've been vying for." Stefano shrugged, the buzziness of the city filtrating into my ears. I hoped we could get to the venue soon. There was no escaping this conversation, I had to give him an answer soon."Are you offering me a contract marriage?" I enquired, the words feeling foreign in my mouth.Stefano paused for a minute, as if considering my words. "You could call it that. Our marriage is expected to last for two years and after which, we'll go our separate ways."This seemed like a deal I could handle. I didn

"Things are no longer the same, Robin." I whispered, moving backwards."What changed?" He moved closer to me, holding my hands.I wanted to say I had gotten married in his absence but my tongue was tied."I just can't explain it." I shook my head, the unsaid words placing a weight in my chest.Robin cupped my cheeks, his expression sad. He licked his lips, I used to find that very attractive, but now I just wanted to be away from him."Bella, make me understand."I understand he reasons for wanting to be aware of my thoughts. I mean, we were planned on getting marriage. Life was truly unpredictable, why was I finding Robin in the weirdest places and today of all days?"You shouldn't have left, Robin," I sighed, hitting his chest. My heart was splintering into tiny different prices right before my eyes.I had hoped to be content with knowing Robin was fine, even though the relationship doesn't work as planned. But now, Robin wanted the relationship more than any other thing and I could

My whole body froze when my eyes met his cold gaze. I wonder how much Stefano had seen. As he took powerful strides towards us, my heart pounded loudly in my ears.Suddenly, his firm grip pulled me in his direction. We stood opposite Robin who had an awkward smile plastered on his face."Glad to see you, I guess." Robin chuckled, stretching his hands towards Stefano as though they were old friends."You might not be glad to see me next time." Stefano's firm tone matched the cold gaze his eyes held.Robin chuckled, unfazed by his words. I didn't understand what exactly was going on, but I could tell that there was a quiet battle between them. I was torn between screaming and keeping mute. Before I could make any decision, Stefano's hard grip tightened around my wrist and pulled towards the direction of his car."What the hell is wrong with you?" I yelled, pain shooting through my hand."Protecting you! You can't afford to spend one more minute with him." Stefano spat, still not freei

Stefano CarloLuca Manno didn't know that he was biting more than he could chew. For some reason, the old fucker was pushing me to the wall. Why was he choosing to fuck intercept my goods and then disrupt our distribution? How dare he fucking take hostage of the goods and attacking my men? I couldn't wrap my head around the audacity. He had his territory and he had never trespassed before even though we were not exactly on good terms, so why did he suddenly grow the balls to walk into the lion's den?My jaw twitched as my fingers glazed over my moustache. I regarded Matteo with a dark look, then in a fit of anger, I slammed my fist on the desk. "How dare he?"Matteo flinched a little before taking his stand. "I don't know, the last time I heard anything from him, he was sick so I don't know why he's trying to war against us."Matteo was right. Me and my father had been running Sicily and UK borders for so long and no one had ever dared to interrupt our dealings. Or do I say the last p

The fucker didn't pick his call.I watched it ring until it went to voicemail. I pressed my hands together, attempting to keep my cool as my thoughts roamed.I shook my head. One fact remains the same: I had to treat Luca Manno as urgent. If not, he'd spiral out of control, and chopping him off would become impossible. I leaned into my chair, closing my eyes. All I saw was trouble, and then I rose, sliding into my car within a few minutes. As I drove on the road, I got certain information that made the whole situation interesting. I knew I was going to look at that later, but for now, I was heading home.As I got into my penthouse, my maid, Marianna, was standing next to the door. She had worked with my family for years and had eventually assigned her to work for me when I moved into my own apartment. Her services were well needed; I couldn't even do anything domestically for the life of me. Also, I didn't trust other people enough to let them into my space. All the other workers I'v

Now I knew he was definitely taking me for a fool. If he had an issue with my father, why didn't he just go all out for him? Why did he have to tamper with the territories that I had inherited? The worst part of this was that my father saw all of this as a joke. But I won't treat this as such; I won't let that happen. I didn't even need his approval to fight for what was mine. When I become victorious, he would applaud me himself. But for now, I couldn't just sit down doing nothing."Luca Manno would not stop at this; the fool will keep going at this shit if we don't fucking put this to an end." I spat, pacing around."So what are we suggesting we do?" Matteo asked. Usually, I brought the ideas, and he gathered the rest of the men to execute them."I'll inform you when I finalise.""We have to act quickly.""I don't need anyone to say that to me. I know." I snapped, anger coursing through the veins. This is what I hated the most about the mafia. There were too many inherited fights an

While I thought of a perfect way to get through to Luca Manno, seeing that I could kill Tomasso, he gave a perfect suggestion."Take a picture of me looking dead and then send it to him; he'll probably respond since none of his men have been killed since he started fighting with y'all." He suggested, then shrugged. "I don't know, just trying to help since we're now a team."He held Matteo's hand, giving a childish smile. "Right?"Matteo pulled back. "Kid, I don't know if anyone has told you this, but when adults are talking, fucking shut up." "I'm freaking 19, adult." Tomasso snapped."Enough!" I scolded, hitting my desk. We were all in a meeting planning our next moves, and to be very honest, Tomasso has been bringing good ideas. I don't know why Matteo has been bringing about the fact that I chose to spare his life. He had been snapping at him at every given second. Like, hey, redirect that useless anger towards me instead, but he wouldn't, and he couldn't. That was what made me th

I could feel the bass pulsing through my chest before we even stepped inside. The club was packed—neon lights cutting across the room like strobe knives, bodies grinding, drinks spilling, laughter rising in waves. I didn’t want to be here. Not really. But Stefano said he needed a night to forget, to feel powerful again, to remind the city that he hadn’t fallen off the throne they all thought he’d abandoned. He looked sharp—raven black suit, no tie, top two buttons undone. The kind of look that made people turn. The kind that reminded you he owned the room even before he spoke. But me? I felt like a footnote tonight. A pretty shadow in heels. We walked in, his hand on the small of my back. The warmth of it used to make me feel chosen. Now it just felt... routine. Decorative. Like I was another piece of the wardrobe. The place was loud. Lights flickering like memories I didn’t want. We got a private table—of course we did. Everything in Stefano’s life came with exclusivity, even when it

Standing at the archway between the kitchen and the living room, I sense Stefano’s tension the instant he steps through our front door. He closes the door a little too hard behind him, and the sound echoes through the quiet house. I stop what I’m doing and carefully slide the towel from my hands, my breathing catching at the weight of him. My husband’s shoulders droop under a burden I cannot see, and already I can feel the tight, anxious ache swirling in my chest.“It’s been a long day,” I whisper, though I don’t even have to say it. I know the weariness in the slump of his shoulders, in the way his tie is undone and his jacket hangs limply from his forearm. I reach out to brush a fingertip over the stubble on his cheek. He stands motionless in the hallway, eyes unfocused and distant. I imagine the ghosts of the day’s battles swirling in his mind. Even before he speaks, I know I need to reach him—now.Slowly, I close the distance between us. Before I can even think, my arms slide arou

Stefano was back home and we had to talk about this.“What's wrong with you? You have been acting all distant and aloof and it's killing me slowly.” I said, holding his hands as he slowly looked back at me with his eyes lost."I'm fine. Stop worrying yourself about me, go to bed, I will join you later when I'm sleepy.” Stefano said, bringing up a fake smile..“No! I will not! You need to tell me what's wrong with you? You can't be suffering alone when you can tell me what's wrong and we can solve it together. Or do you think I'm dumb or not hit enough to be with you? Are you tired of me?" I asked, dreading his response. He snapped his head back like I had said the most ridiculous stuff he have ever heard. I got startled by his abrupt movements, I could see anger in his eyes, clouded with disbelief. Why?“How dare you say something like that? I can never be tired of you and I won't.I yearn for you and I would never want to live a second without the thought of you not being mine or

Just after we got out, I glanced at Tomasso briefly as we stepped out the car. His face was hard to read, like he was trying not to show anything. My heart was beating fast, like I didn’t know what was about to happen even though I had prepared myself for it.“Just try your best to smile at him okay?” I said to him, resting my hand lightly on his arm.He didn’t respond right away. Just nodded a bit and looked down at his shoes. I could tell he was nervous. Even if he didn’t want to admit it.I turned to Marco, who was already getting out from the driver’s side. “Marco,” I called gently, stopping him before he could come around.“Yeah?” he asked.“Please, just stay in the car,” I told him. “I don’t want you to see all this. It’s messy… you know, family stuff. I just want to deal with it alone.”He looked like he wanted to argue but then sighed and nodded. “Alright. I’ll be right here.”“Thanks,” I whispered before turning back to the gate.Tomasso stood by the entrance, his arms crosse

Marco drove quietly, both hands on the wheel, his eyes fixed on the road ahead like it was the only thing that mattered. I sat in the front seat while Tomasso was at the back, earphones plugged in, head resting on the window. He hadn’t said much since we got in the car. Just a quiet “morning” to Marco and nothing else. The road was calm, barely any traffic. The sun was already out but not too hot. Light poured through the trees lining both sides of the road, dancing on the windshield like soft glitter. It was peaceful in a way that made everything feel heavier somehow. Like silence was stretching itself too wide.I kept stealing glances at Tomasso through the side mirror. His eyes were open, staring out at the road like he was somewhere else. Maybe in his head, maybe in the past. I didn’t know. I could only imagine what was going through his mind.We passed a small lake, the kind people always stopped by to take pictures. The water looked still, untouched, like nothing ever happened t

The next morning, stefano came back home exhausted. I glared at him tired eyes."What's the problem again?" I asked him and he simply waved a dismissive flick of his wrist."Really?" I asked. "are you fucking going to act this way?" I said to him. "I thought we passed this stage Stefano. We can't Keep going around in circles." I spat out genuinely tired of how he acts when things do not go according to his plan. He mostly acted like he was my fault no matter how much I rrud to console him. It wasn't my fault and he knew it, I would do everything to within my power to help him. But right now my hands my were tied since I wasn't a mafia person. I could not even hold a gun to save my life."We couldn't kill him." He simply said and I glanced at him."How come?" I asked. I could recall that Stefano had told me that he had insructed his army commandant to get rid of him and now it's crazy that their plans had fallen through."He has been out of the country for a while and he has been secur

As soon as we got to the club it took me hours to legit discover that the club we were at was close to Tomasso mother's club. The realization alone broke my heart but i decided to not cat according to how I felt maybe it was a bad idea, I thought to myself and decided to leave there.I rose to my feet as I informed Tomasso."I think we have left here soon." I said to him and his eyes widened."But we just got here." He replied."I know and that's the more reason why we have to leave here before anything happens again." I tried to make him understand but I knew he wouldn't even get what I was trying to make him understand even in the slightest. So I didn't even blame him"What was that?" He asked and a chuckle nearly escaped my lips with how dramatic the scene of events had turned out before now.It was just horrible that happened at the next bar. TomassoIt was obvious that I was alive. But I felt like I was dead. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I was sad or anything. Neither was I happy.I just felt like I wasn't truly living my life. I was just a trapped in a body that wasn't mine. Each time, I would look at my surroundings and they would look distinctly familiar yet so strange, yet I felt out of place. I didn't know if therewas a cure for all of this. But they said I had lost my memory si I was hoping that when my memories came back, I would be free from this feeling. I woul d. Yes, there was a lot I wasn't telling him right now and it made so much sense. Everything was beginning to make so much sense. I should have known but I was so blinded, I wanted him to get well so soon that I didn't deem it fit to do my research. It felt like my chest was breaking into pieces that I couldn't even fathom what I was doing as my chest shook.I barged into the Tomaso bathroom as I quickly flushed down the drug."Why are you flushing down the drugs?" He asked, he was clearly confused. He had no idea what was happening. "Thought you said you were a nurse and the drugs were good for me. So I don't understand what's happening."I slumped on his bed, my legs feeling weak. I knew I wouldn't able to work anymore and I would fall down if I attempted to leave the room without proper support. He crouched down and stared at me as my tears fell onto my laps. "Are you sure you're okay?" A concerned look was etched on his face."I am not okay and that's the point." I expressed amidst s
