We need to find a way out of here. It's been over a week since Giovanni brought us to this place. True to his word, he didn't lock the door or threaten us not to leave but that doesn't mean we can do whatever we want. He didn't post any guards at the door but only an idiot would attempt to escape. There's nowhere we would go that he wouldn't find us. However, the longer we continue staying here, the more our lives are in danger. Giovanni could walk in any moment, shoot us and no one would ever question him. For all I know, he told Padre I died at De Luca's so he could sell me or take my organs. I wouldn't put that past him. Leaving means running forever and staying means waiting for death. There's no such thing as a better option. Only survival matters. And I'm done being a sitting duck.

"Damiano?" I call out heading to the living room. The house is a small two bedroom with barely any furniture. It looks like a place where Giovanni or some of his men crash whenever they're free. Surp

I'm nervous but also excited at the same time. I've been waiting for this day for a long time now. Well, for a week but the days felt like centuries. I'm not sure why I feel nervous when I've had a week to prepare my speech. All I have to do is convince a bunch of men to take one man out. How hard can that be? I talked to Marco and he told me that he'd do this for me because he felt like I deserved a fresh start. Padre had sent me to London to meet a potential client when we met. It was at some dignitary's party where I had gone to seduce the guy so we could get some info from him. The guy was rude and ugly and I didn't want to do it so I passed by the bar first to get some liquor courage. Marco sat beside me asking why a beautiful woman like me would attend a party just to sulk. For some weird reason, I blurted out my life story to him. Of course, I didn't tell him who I was. Just that I was forced to do things I didn't want to do. He told me that if we ever met again and I wanted

Later as I'm applying my makeup, I wonder how this night will end. Padre left for a business trip earlier this week which makes me feel at ease somehow. Although Marco had promised not to invite him, he still has loyal men in the circle. To avoid a heads-up, everyone's invitation was sent this morning. It gives them enough time to prepare but not enough to call Padre back. Even if they do tell him, he'll arrive there when it's already too late. At least that's what I hope. I also refrained from telling Carina anything because I know what a blabber mouth she is. Her locations were a bust which means Padre isn't happy with her. She'd do anything to get back on his good side. I'd call her a people pleaser if I didn't know she was only trying to survive. At the end of the day, she didn't ask for this. None of us did. I pick red lipstick because it's hot and I like it. Looking at myself in the mirror, I wonder if Paulo was right. Is it too much? Would it be enough to convince those bast

Stepping out of the car, I button my suit jacket and look at Fabian who nods, understanding my silent message. I don't have to tell him to be alert. We're walking into a house we've never been to before and since I sent most of my guys to go look for Nev, we're kind of at a disadvantage here. Not that I expect a war to break out here or something but it doesn't hurt to be careful. The party is well underway. I don't know why Marco went to the trouble of throwing one when he rarely does that. Something's fishy and I'm hoping I'll find out what it is before it's too late. I still haven't figured out why he met with Marianna. Did Lombardi send her? If so, why? Marco only gets involved when there is a conflict that needs resolving. We try to avoid fighting because the aftermath isn't pretty but sometimes it can't be avoided. Like now, the only reason I'm here is to ask him to stay put when I go after Lombardi. I don't want anyone getting in the middle trying to defend that bastard. It's

"He just shot her. He killed her" she says referring to Carina. Damiano is kneeling beside her putting pressure on her wound but she's losing a lot of blood. I don't think she's going to make it. Even so, I still ask Fabian to ask around for a doctor. "Stay out of this, De Luca. None of this is your concern" Lombardi barks. He's bleeding too because Marianna shot him in the arm but I couldn't give a flying fuck. He could drop dead for all I care. I'm afraid for Marianna. If Marino and Russo decide to retaliate, she won't walk out of this room alive. Lucky for her, those assholes have moved to a corner, separating themselves from Lombardi. "I've always known what a bastard you are and this just serves to prove how right I was. How could you shoot your fucking daughter?" "Please, let's not pretend that she's related to me in any way" he scoffs and I want to finish what Marianna started. It would be so easy to kill him right now. He's not some kind of immortal being, if he bleeds th

I think I'm still in shock. Padre shot Carina. I shot him. He killed Carina. She's dead. I don't know why that is so unbelievable when this is what I was hoping for. Ever since she showed up at the house, she's been nothing but a pain in my ass. She even tried to kill me once, and I promised myself I would kill her instead. Why then can't I believe that she's dead? Before we left, I saw the light go out of her eyes. She was looking right at me when she took her last breath. It's the kind of look that will forever remain in my mind.We grew up hating each other. It was so natural to hate her because I thought she got the better end of the deal. While I was busy running around doing Padre's bidding, she was in New York, living the life I wanted. Doing what I wanted to do but couldn't. She had everything I wanted, which is funny because she thought the same thing. Carina wasn't one to keep her mouth shut. Whenever she wanted something, she came right out and said it. I know just how much

So Padre is dead. Which means whoever gets to the house first, will have the upper hand. Most of the documents about shipments and deals are in a safe at the mansion. Everyone who knows that Padre is dead will try to get there before anyone so they can take over. The men that worked for Padre can easily be turned once they find out he's dead. They need jobs and would work for anyone who offers to pay them. Besides, anyone who refuses is bound to die. You can't be loyal to a dead man. Unless we're talking about Giovanni. He was Padre's right-hand so maybe he'll resist? Who will he pick? Right now he's the only one who can sway Padre's men. "How long until we get there?" I ask smoothing my hair back. I have absolutely no idea what I'm walking into. I don't know what I'll do if I actually get there first. Padre didn't exactly teach me anything about running an organization as big as this one. We all know how he looked down on women especially me. I would really like to give him the mi

The appearance of Giovanni makes perfect sense. Every piece fits into the puzzle perfectly now. On my way here I kept wondering how she could have done it on her own. She only had Paulo and those two girls. Alone, they wouldn't have accomplished anything. Stealing merchandise from me required them to have a lot of money to begin with. They'd need trucks, a place to store the stolen goods and men. The kind that are trained and won't make mistakes. She would have also needed to pay them a good sum to work for her. I know she's Lombardi's daughter, but there's no way she would have had the money to do all that. Unless she'd been in cahoots with Carina. Now if they had my five million dollars, this could have been done easily. It wouldn't have been a problem. Except I've seen just how much Marianna hated her sister. She didn't want to live in the same house with her. Let alone striking deals with each other, I think they'd rather die than work together. But having Giovanni Balistreri on

I take a bullet for her and this is the thanks I get. Why the hell do I still like her? I've met and been with a lot of women. I guess I'm drawn to her because I've never met anyone like her. She knows she's beautiful so flaunts it. She's unapologetic about what she did even though she should be asking for my forgiveness. Lombardi and De Luca organizations have been on opposite sides for a long time. I could easily take advantage of our rivalry and wipe her out. Even with Giovanni by her side, she's no match for me. All I have to do is convince their clients and business partners to join me. Seeing as Lombardi is dead, who would want to put their money in the hands of a woman? It wouldn't take much to convince them. But there's a part of me that hopes she succeeds so she doesn't have to be under anyone's control anymore. Lombardi never cared about any of his daughters. I'm glad Marianna has finally gotten her freedom. "How long until Nev gets here?" I ask following her into the hou

"Last chance, Cris. If you mess it up, I'll send you to hell myself" Damn it! Who was I kidding? I never had a chance. Maybe provoking him wasn't a good idea. If I hadn't talked to him, he would have continued his play. Giving me more time to convince her that I am the better choice. Then again, who's to say she would have given in? Actions speak louder than words. She doesn't trust me. Locking her door was a clear sign that she didn't feel safe with me. I can't help but wonder what would have happened if I hadn't let her go the first time we met. Why does she keep going back to him? He'll hurt her again. I know he will. Turning off the laptop, I take my car keys and leave. She needs to come back to her senses. After everything that bastard did, how could she forgive him? It's okay if she doesn't want to be with me but he's not right for her either. He left when she needed him the most and he will do it again. "Sir" "What?" "She's still waiting for you in the lobby"

I'm curious to know if they've made up but I don't want to disturb them in case they're in the middle of it. Carina just needed a little shove to see that she still loved her husband. I know the other guy, Marco, has done a lot for her but he honestly scares me. Cris is on our level. If we put our minds to it, we could destroy his business and leave him penniless. As a matter of fact, if he does something stupid again, that's what I'll do. But Marco? He's too powerful. He doesn't go around showing it but Damiano told me about him and I was shocked. If someone like that were to date my sister, of course, we would be known as the most powerful family. But it would also mean that we couldn't do anything without his permission. I thought about it really hard. About who would make Carina happy. Maybe I'm judging Marco too harshly but I don't think he can do it. She doesn't look at him the same way she looks at Cris. At first, I just wanted to mess around with her and se

"Marianna!" "Gee, are you trying to burst my eardrum? What's the problem now? Shouldn't you be happy for having a sister as caring as I am?""I'm sorry but did you not hear me when I told you to stay out of it? Are you deaf?""Yes. I usually become deaf when it suits me. Which stage are you at?" "I don't know what's going through that thick head of yours but I'll have you know that I'm going to kick him out" "I took the keys with me" Idiot "I have two spare keys you dumbass" "Damn it! Why are you so stubborn? I just want to see you happy" "It doesn't have to be with him. I can be happy with someone else" I lower my voice so he doesn't hear me. Waking up to find him hovering above me almost gave me a heart attack. But it's not the first time I've caught him watching me sleep. If I didn't know him I'd think he was a creep. "Remember when you left the Maldives and were kidnapped by that asshole?" "Yeah. Marco's guys saved me and took me to his house" "Half a point

Now I'm a hundred percent sure Marianna spent all night planning this. I don't know if I should thank her or be pissed. This could go two ways. Carina could either ignore everything and kick me out or she would end up thinking I was in cahoots with her sister and possibly hate me forever. Either way, it's not gonna end well. Before she comes out, I check for other notes and get rid of them. I've just discarded the last one when she asks, "Is there food in there? Marianna said she ordered some" Some is an under... Fuck. Thank God the fridge door is shielding me or I wouldn't know how to explain my hard-on. One look at her and my cock jumps up happily. I know I have no right to demand anything from her but there's no way I'll let her leave the house dressed like that. The floral dress is simple, exposing her shoulders and a good part of her legs but damn it, those legs are mine. That cleavage is mine. Every part of her is mine. She moves towards me and for a second, I forget to breat

I missed watching her sleep. She looks like an angel curled up, with one of her legs exposed and the other one under the covers. I want to stop time so we'll be stuck in this moment forever. So I can look at her all I want without any interruptions. Sitting on the edge of the bed, I tuck her hair behind her ear, marveling at her long lashes, straight nose, and full lips. I want to kiss her while she's asleep because I know she won't let me anywhere near her once she wakes up. Why I once thought it was okay to let her go is beyond me. Will she be angry when she wakes up and sees me here? What can I do to get her back? No matter how much I think about it, I can't see a future where I'm okay without her. Before her, I didn't believe in love. My plan was to find a woman, any woman, and start a family with her. It's no secret that most women would like to be my wife. My last name comes with not only money but also power. The kind that lets them do whatever they want k

Was I too harsh? But why won't he leave me alone? I already told him that I'd moved on and our relationship was over. Why is he trying so hard? Damn him. He forced me to tell him those things. I wouldn't have been so mean if he had just stayed away. Yes, it's his fault. He deserves that and so much more for abandoning me when... If you don't care, why are you still hung up on that? This is getting old. I can't always use that as an excuse. I don't care about him or his feelings but that doesn't mean I have to put up with him. If I show him the slightest consideration, he won't leave and chances are, I might end up back in his arms. But if I don't care, why am I still up at half past one worrying if he was hurt by my words? Thanks to Cris, I have another sleepless night and wake up feeling grumpy. Funny how I'm not affected by the fact that Lombardi was still alive. Maybe he still is. Marianna said she wasn't sure if Nev killed him or not. What I don't understand is why

"Why are you still here?" "I'm wondering if I should sue you for illegal termination of employment. How can you just fire me?" "Your services are no longer needed. Why should I let you stay? Besides, weren't you the one who was complaining about how you didn't sign up for this shit?""Still. You should have given me a one-month notice" I shift my eyes to look at him. What changed? I was under the impression that he didn't want to stay here because he wasn't fond of Val. Why isn't he jumping with joy? "Are you high?" "Because of your kid, I haven't smoked anything in a long time" "Then I thank you on Val's behalf. Now get lost" As much as I appreciate his help, it would be better if he left. I suspect he wants to stick around because of Carina. She's a beautiful woman and men can't help but be interested in her. Speaking of Carina, I wonder if telling her about Val was the right choice. "Are you insane?" "Yeah. Insanely hot" "Why didn't you come to me first?" Flopping back on the bed, I close my eyes. Damiano is as pissed as Giovanni was, when he found out I asked Nev to kill Lombardi. I understand why Giovanni would feel that way but not Damiano. They're acting as if I did something horrible when in reality, they are the ones who are in the wrong. Why the hell would they want to keep that bastard alive? For what reason?"If I hadn't followed you, you wouldn't have told me he was still alive" "Barely. He was hooked up to all those machines and had no chance of waking up. Why would you kill him?" "Technically he was already dead. Why does it matter if I killed him or asked someone else to do it? As you said, he wasn't going to regain consciousness" "That doesn't make it alright for you to kill him!" He snarls, making me lean on my elbows. Lifting my head to stare at him. It's almost nine and I'm roaming around the house aimlessly because I can't sleep. For some reason, my nerves are too wound up to let me settle down. Who am I kidding? It's that bastard. Knowing he's here and planning on wooing me, as Marco put it, is driving me insane. Is he the one who's been sending me flowers? Where is he? Why was he here that day? And screw Marco. Why the fuck would he tell me that? Anyone in his position would do everything they could to keep me from finding out. Why did he tell me? How does he even know that? Are they in contact or is he spying on him?I'm scared of his presence. I'm scared that his presence will thaw the ice around my heart because it was already melting before I knew he was here. I'm so scared I'll forgive him and fall into his arms as if nothing happened. If I'm honest with myself, I will admit that I miss him.
