Selene’s POV
“What?! What do you mean, what’s wrong with my baby?” I burst into the room, panic clawing at my chest. The healers stood motionless, their heads bowed, refusing to meet my gaze. Their silence suffocated me. “My Luna… she’s in…” “Speak up!” I roared, the desperation in my voice echoing off the walls. “She’s in a coma,” one of them finally mumbled, barely audible. “It’s… severe.” My world tilted. I staggered, clutching the doorframe for support as my eyes darted to Ella’s still, fragile body on the bed. My baby girl, my heart, lay motionless, her tiny chest barely rising. “Her treatment was delayed... There was nothing we could do in time.” Delayed. The word struck like a whip, and I knew exactly who was to blame. “What’s going on here?” Natasha said in a whisper as she and Alexander walked into the room. That was it. The dam of my restraint shattered. I lunged at her, grabbing her by the collar before she could feign innocence. “You are the reason! It’s all because of you! You did this!” My hands moved on their own, slapping her face with all the fury of a mother’s broken heart. “Selene!” Alex barked, his grip tightening around my arm as he dragged me away. But I fought against him, my rage unyielding. “What’s wrong with you!” He yelled at me, “What’s wrong with me?! I should ask you that question because you are the dumb one here! She’s playing with you, and now our daughter might not survive because of it!” I yelled at him. His jaw clenched, his Alpha power radiating through the room in a suffocating wave. But I stood firm. “Yes, I said it! Ella is in a coma because of her! And you’re too foolish to see it!” “Shut the fuck up, Selene! I didn’t mean to make things this difficult since, after all, you had been with me for some time. But are you sure now you want to be insane with me, just for a bastard?” I was first confused, but then I saw the disgust in his eyes—the way he looked at me, like I was nothing. “Stop pretending, Selene,” he sneered. “We both know Ella isn’t mine.” For a moment, the world stopped spinning. “What…did you just say?” “You heard me,” he said, his voice colder than I’d ever heard. “Stop the lies. I know the truth. Ella isn’t my child. She’s Lucian’s.” “Lucian?” My voice wavered, caught between disbelief and laughter. His dead brother? Was this some kind of sick joke? Before I could respond, Natasha’s crocodile tears filled the room. “It’s time you faced reality, sister,” she sniffled, her voice trembling with mock sympathy. “Everyone knows Ella isn’t Alex’s. You had your daughter out of wedlock, and that’s long before you married the Alpha. You only claimed it belonged to Alex to secure your place as Luna.” I turned to Alex, searching his face for a shred of the man I’d once loved. “You can’t possibly believe this,” I whispered. “Alex, you know the truth. Tell her. Tell her this is all a lie!” In the hell whole world, Alexander should be the last one to accuse me of adultery! He was the only one who knew what happened between me and his brother; he knew I hadn’t slept with anyone before we married! But his silence said everything. “You…” My voice cracked. “You of all people... You knew I had nothing to do with Lucian! How could you—” “I always knew you were a slut,” he cut me off, his words slicing through me like a blade. “I just needed proof.” He pulled a paper from his pocket and tossed it at me. My hands trembled as I unfolded it, scanning the text. A DNA test. A forged one, no doubt. It claimed Ella wasn’t his. “You’d rather believe this? A piece of paper? Over me? Over the years we’ve shared?” My voice cracked under the weight of my devastation, “Alex, this is—” “I don’t need your explanation. Stop playing the victim,” he growled. “Everyone knows about your lust towards my brother while he was still alive. Don’t act like you are innocent.” “It’s impossible! Alex,” I pleaded, the tears streaming down my face. “Ella’s life is at stake. How can you even think about this nonsense right now? She’s our daughter!” “She’s your burden to bear, not mine,” he snapped, his tone devoid of any warmth. “And as for this sham of a marriage, I’m done with it.” His worrisome look was replaced with a smile, as he pulled my sister by her hands, he placed a kiss on her forehead. “I have found my new mate, and true Luna, who would take care of my pack and bear me an heir.” “Oh, Alex,” Natasha cooed, her voice dripping with false modesty. She kissed him back, her eyes sparkling with victory. The room spun as humiliation and rage coursed through me. They were shameless, flaunting their betrayal right in front of me. “You’re pathetic,” I spat, crumpling the paper in my fist and throwing it at him. “Both of you are shameless and disgusting!” “How dare you—” “Six years!” I screamed, shoving him back. “Six years of my life, wasted on you! I gave you everything, and this is how you repay me? With lies and betrayal?!” He pushed me away from him. “Don’t you dare lay your hands on me again; otherwise, I would have you beheaded,” he spat at me in disgust. “Go ahead!” I dared, my voice shaking with fury. “What more can you take from me? You’ve already stolen everything!” He stared at me for a long moment, his gaze filled with disdain. Then, with a smirk that made my blood boil, he uttered the words that shattered my soul. “Selene Hawkmoon, I reject you as my mate.” The bond between us snapped, and the pain was excruciating. My wolf whimpered in agony, its voice fading into nothingness. But I wouldn’t let him see my weakness. I straightened, wiping the tears from my face with trembling hands. “I, Selene Hawkmoon, accept your rejection.” The words tasted like ash, but I forced them out, my voice steady. Alex’s lips twisted into a cruel smile. “For your disrespect, I sentence you to life imprisonment. You’ll rot in the darkest dungeon.”Selene’s POVTwo days.It had been two days since I last saw the break of dawn, two days since I heard the voice of my little princess calling me "mommy." I was weak and unwilling to let my faith die.My body sagged on the floor, unable to stand anyone. I had bruises on every inch of my body, an impact of hitting the metal gate so much that my head had bruises as patches of dried blood.I had cried, I had prayed, I had begged and fought for two days with no hope of coming out of here. Alexander meant it when he said he was going to punish me for a crime I didn’t commit. He meant it when he said he was going to make my life miserable.I refused to let the idea sink in, as I forced myself up again, my sore knees crawling on the floor while I dragged myself to the gates of the dungeon, my bloody hands wrapped around the rusty bars of the cell room.“Is anyone there! please… just get the Alpha for me. I need to know where my baby is." I couldn’t cry or yell, but I knew they could hear me
Lucian’s POV “Mate?” The word echoed in my head, clawing at my sanity. It couldn’t be true. She was mated to my brother! Alexander, he married her because she chose him over me. How could she possibly be my mate? “I felt it,” my wolf, Escarnor, growled, smug, and relentless. I stalked through the pack corridors, my chest tight with anger. The air was thick with the stench of betrayal, the walls steeped in memories I had spent years trying to forget. Her scent lingered here, winding through the halls. It was maddening. Intoxicating. Six years. I returned to this wretched pack, not with the aim to rescue Selene. I didn’t expect that. My only purpose was to take back what was stripped from me. Alexander might wear the title of Alpha, but we both knew who it rightfully belonged to. He had lied, manipulated, and cheated his way into power. I was going to make sure he went on his knees. The plan had been calculated. Infiltrate the palace in disguise, assess the state of
Selene's POV The dungeon was suffocatingly silent. It was late at night. And over six hours since I had last seen him. Part of me started to believe I’d imagined it, that maybe I’d conjured him out of desperation. But the greasy plate and half-empty can of water at the edge of the cell told me otherwise. He had been here. I saw Lucian. My arms wrapped around my knees as I tried to still the ache in my chest. Six years ago, the pack’s seer declared Lucian a threat, claiming the goddess herself had demanded his imprisonment. If he wasn’t contained, she warned, our pack would face unimaginable suffering. And like the fool I was, I didn’t listen. I was young and reckless, following my heart instead of reason. I trusted him when he said he cared for me, when he whispered promises of escape, freedom, and a life far from the suffocating grasp of the pack—and my parents. But when the moment came, he chose a life without me. I hugged my knees tighter. He made a fool of me, he ridicul
Selene’s POV His hard palm came crashing on my face, fast and hard, immediately sending me to the floor. I shuddered as the pain spiralled through my body, the room rotated around me, and I felt nauseous. I had tried maintaining my composure, but I vomited right there; half of it’s content was blood.I was pulled to my feet and pinned against the wall; my hands were held apart beside me; a guard brought out a dagger and shoved it into my palm; therefore, pinning my hands to the wall, a blaring scream escaped my lips. The same action was done to my other hand; I could not take it anymore, and I let myself cry. I could not move my hands, and the silver knife burnt my skin. Alex held my jaw up; he passed a menacing grin towards me, but in mere seconds my vision blurred with tears."Oh, Selene, you wouldn’t have gone through this pain if you had answered, but somehow you found a way to complicate things for yourself. Now I will ask you one more time, Where is your daughter, and who is you
Selene's POV The pain was nonexistent for a blissful minute; I couldn’t feel anything anymore. I saw my daughter in the playground; she was going up and down the seesaw. I could hear her laughter echoing in my mind. She looked so beautiful.I remembered that day; she just had her hair done, and she was excited to show it to her friends in the pack. I added ribbons and flowers while styling it. She felt like the Alpha’s daughter that day, and I could already tell from the look in her eyes that she was proud of it.‘Mummy! Come, join me!’ She ran towards me, her little hands holding one of my fingers, She tried her best to pull me towards the seesaw; it was too small for me, but I didn’t tell her because I wanted her to be happy, so I sat on the other edge, I used my legs to propel us up and down, and while I found it so inconveniencing, I couldn’t help but hear adore her giggle. Slowly, I was brought back to my reality.‘Hang in there, Selene, don’t sleep, stay awake!’ My wolf said
Selene's POV 'Breath,’ a melodious voice whispered beside my ears.A sudden urge to breathe engulfed me, and as a wave of air coursed through my nose, my back arched on a hard surface. Air forcefully passed through my nose and mouth. Shivers of relief eluded me; my body felt instantly cold like I had been trapped beneath a snowstorm, yet I felt as light as a feather falling freely from the sky.My heavy eyes and lips felt burden-free, my skin didn’t feel inflamed, I felt like an infant coaxed in the warmth of its mother, I felt alive again like I had woken up from a deep slumber, the strange feeling was surreal, and I contemplated what was going on.My eyelids slightly opened just to witness a blinding ray of light that threatened my vision. I closed my eyes again, then gently opened them. I took the light in till I was finally comfortable enough to look without being repulsed by the light. I noticed the wooden rooftop above me, and the first question that surged my thought was.‘Whe
Selene’s POV It had been two days since I was locked in this very room, barely moving or saying anything. The only time I talked with anyone was when the pack healer came in with her usual dosage of herbs; she would force me to take it because she felt whatever must have happened might reverse, and it might be the goddess giving me time to heal before she took away her blessing.I was fed herbs and meat constantly, and I was made to view outside the pack from a small opening at the side of the tent that I was placed in. It had also been two days since I felt my wolf last; I didn’t dare to confide in the healer; I couldn't afford to be stigmatized because of it; everyone would treat me differently if they knew my wolf was dead.A gentle knock on the door pulled my attention to the presence of the healer, who had just found her way into the room. “How are you feeling today?” She asked with infectious enthusiasm, and I found myself smiling back at her.“Better, how’s my daughter?” Her
Selene’s POV It was chilly outside, the sun had gone down, and everywhere was mostly dark. The pack members had lit a bonfire in the middle of tents but it did so little for me, as I was mostly isolated. All I had to keep my company were the sounds of gossip told by ladies outside, the cheers of children playing with each other, and a flickering light that casted shadows. I let my imagination wander as I tried to form creatures with shadows. I formed monsters with horns with my fingers, I made them eat, moved them around, then tried to make them mimic the voices of the ladies laughing and talking outside, but it did so little for me, it barely made me laugh, no matter what I did, it wasn't just fun at all. I sighed then laid back on the floor, contemplating why Lucian wasn't back yet, or why he chose to bring me into his pack as a rogue? And what was taking them so long at the other packs, the people already had so much hope in him, it would be hard to convince them to look arou
Lucian’s POVShock registered on their faces as I stared at the three of them. They tucked their tails beneath their legs then lowered their heads, I was way too tender and patient and I bet this would tell them. When they finally reconsidered their decision, I pulled my daggers out and I let them leave and I made sure they were out of sight before I made another move.Matters like this would be avoided if new rogues would understand not everyone under the moon was after them, I ignited the engines and I drove off.Hours later I approached Pike’s territory, his wolves who stood guarding the accessible borders of the pack stood their ground, they brought out their swords and daggers at the sight of the mask seated on my face.“I am here to see pike? Your leader.” I said, with my hands up in the air, they drew the dagger closer to my neck. These people were the same people who followed me on the war with Jullian, but even after we were acquainted, they still perceived my presence as a c
Lucian’s POV The lady glanced at me with a questioning look, she tried to reach out to me but I moved away, clutching the strap of my bag, I walked away from the town, it was obvious there was a party being held in the pack house.I could not remember any need for a pack to celebrate at the time of the year, and it wasn’t even winter yet, so why would Aex host a party inside the pack house? Was he trying to avoid the consequences of his actions? It made no sense, but then again things stopped making sense the moment Alex had a say in the pack, though I came to get something’s for Selene, it would cause no harm if I checked out the pack house myself, besides the farm was just beside it.I made sure my scarf was tied firmly around my face to avoid being noticed and I walked over to the pack house where I found a new set of people at the foot of the pack, they had their bowls in their hands as they sat. Fear gripped me.This was preposterous, I took a glance at the pack house which gl
Lucian’s POV Now I was on the road my mind was in a haze, everything in my body fumed up, she shouldn’t have come out she should have remained in her hut, she wanted to prey on my self control I could tell. Not only has she tried to sabotage my journey she also wanted to blame me for leaving when she was the one who left first. It’s just the last time. After this everything would go back to how it was supposed to be. I would take back the pack, I would give these people a home and I would provide security as promised, whatever my end was after that is uncertain.I refused to let her get on my nerves or divert my attention to something so superficial. My drive through the borders of the pack and into the thick forest wasn’t far from what Selene predicted, I got attacked by rogues and traps it was worse than expected, but somehow I managed to get to eclipse pack in about two days of being active on the road, I had for crash out moments but I got there. The next step is to sneak into t
Lucian’s POV It was very early in the morning when I decided to leave for the pack for my last heist. If I had to get everything on the list and also take time to see the situation of the pack I needed to go earlier, I took my trusted dagger and I tucked it in my boots, one around a sheath on my waist.I was set to go, I took a bottle of herb I had squeezed before going to bed earlier, I had made more research on numbing medications for the pain and also slow the process of the contamination, I could already feel my body feeling much better compared to how I felt earlier .It was still dark outside and the pack was quiet. I don’t know how long it was going to take on the road and I might have another breakdown. So I prepared some lettuce leaves and some carrot sticks for Ella’s bunny, and I walked over to Selene’s quarters, I dropped it at the door so it was the first thing she saw when she woke up. I was aware of her aim to make this mission impossible, but it had to be done, one w
Lucian’s POV I fought with the pack guards at the borders. Not only did they lose my scarf, they had taken the bracelet I bought alongside a picture, I found out right after the trance, I was paranoid and I needed to take back everything they took which led to a fight and the bruise she desperately wanted to heal. But I could not let it happen, the poison had surpassed my arms and I could feel it around my chest. If she touched it, she would notice my blood stream was infected but she was too stubborn and wouldn’t listen.I had subconsciously entered the healers ward at the sight of her, I wanted to give her the bracelet I bought, but seeing her and remembering the outcome of my hallucinations, I had a change of heart, I was still hurt by it, I knew it wasn’t real but somehow it made my heart weigh with so much pain.I was way past it already, I knew she wouldn’t go back to Alex. I was certain but somehow the betrayal stuck with me. It taunted me so much and it messed with my mind,
Selene’s POVIt was very early in the morning and I barely had any sleep last night, first was from the continuous foot thumping in the room, Ella’s bunnies needed to find some other place to sleep. And secondly because Lucian left the pack all night and he hadn’t come back yet, I feared he had gone to eclipse pack without my notice, and I was truly worried, the least he could do was tell me about it.It wasn’t much of a request but if he kept doing things on his own without telling me, how was I supposed to rule the pack? It made no sense? Everything about him made no sense to me at all.I walked into the pack, the fertilizers that were ruined had been gathered, they were in no shape for farming but I wasn’t prepared to let my effort go to waste, on this day I wanted to do something new.I made a random wolf blow the horn to gather everyone in the pack at the open square, and when they finally did, I proceeded to share my messages.“Our goal hasn’t ended yet, I know yesterday I was a
Lucian’s POVI didn’t entirely find that aspect of her life interesting.“Did Jullian occasionally visit you?” There was a lump in my throat as I spoke. What guarantee do I have that Selene wouldn’t desire a male counterpart while in this circle.“Yes he did, but we were on a routine, each wife had the day they stayed with him, and if it happens that we desire strongly to be with him we might trade places and favors.” I cleared my throat and I moved on the chair, my eyes barged hurriedly. That was something I couldn’t satisfy, what if she decides to have someone in the pack due to the heat of pregnancy, winter is coming either way, she would need someone to warm her human side.“Chief, you look flushed, are you okay?” “Yes, I am thankful, you can leave now.” She bowed before she left, and as I watched into the distance I thought about everything, the movement of the child as it ages, the emotional turmoil, I was close to my mother as a child, but during the birth of Alex, I was fa
Lucian’s POVEvery joint felt the weight of the energy surge, it weakened every single limb in my body, and I had just recovered from the effect when Selene walked into the room. Her presence only made it worse. The most aggregating part of it was that she didn’t know, she wasn’t aware that her presence only made me wild, she couldn’t tell how hard it was to keep Escarno from marking her.I took the list she dropped on my desk and I smirked at the list, it was obvious she did all this just to make me stay, she wanted to find a reason to tag me for everything, I smirked again as I read through everything. This must be some other stage of degeneration, I could feel how untamed my desires were becoming. I needed to leave the pack if I truly wanted to secure the third stone, I needed to leave. But then I stared at the sheet of paper on the table. If I leave she won’t be able to make more crop as she desires. And I stood a chance of her being right, I need to do something. From the looks o
Selene’s POV I slept, for a while but half heartedly this time, after the last encounter with Lucian, I couldn’t get myself to stop thinking about what he said. And the little feeling in my heart that still remained warm.I couldn’t comprehend why, but somehow I chose to repel whatever it was that I felt, I only needed his permission to build a greenhouse, and he had done enough, I could do the rest myself, with time.We might not be able to grow the crops as fast as we wanted to, but I could still grow them. Within a month, I didn’t want to owe him any more favors than I already did, I didn’t want to feel obligated to him or attached. So as I stood up from my bed, I reached out for a sheet of paper at the corner of the bed, he stated that he needed the list for the fertilizers, I planned on giving it to him, but mostly in a manner he had no option than to reject it.I was planning on making it hard to achieve, so I stated some plan based fertilizers which I had back in eclipse pack,
