Selenes POV

I had to believe I did what was best for me and my child, I did the only things that would guarantee her a good life and a safe life from all the struggles of heartbreak. She is innocent, and not only will her innocence cause her future heartache as it had cost me, it will keep her on the same path as I was.

She was already attached to Lucian; if I let her get any closer than she already was, she would be heartbroken when he eventually leaves. I can’t have her questioning her love or her ability to be loved, it took me coming back here to realize Lucian left a gap in my heart that I had ignored for years. I would rather die than watch Ella question herself the way I did.

In two months, this was the most dangerous thing I had done. I had my daughter in a truck, and I told her we were playing a game where she has to be quiet. I woke her up from sleep the moment I walked out of the room, and as lovely as she may be, she agreed. Excited, she let me cover her in flowers.

And I

Selenes POVI patiently waited for them to throw their first attack, and as predicted, they came out of their hiding in all fours. I took my time to calculate how many wolves were coming my way, and from the looks of it, they were three now five in total.I checked for a path to run if I had a chance of escape, I could only cause a scar on them, but I didn’t have what it took to fight five wolves; they were still coming out of their hiding and now I was surrounded by seven wolves all together. But at least I found a path for escape. “I am just traveling through packs, I have no intentions of causing harm.” I said hoping they stood still so it didn’t get too bloody, but they moved further. “I come in peace.” I said again.Their growls thickened, and as I tried to warn them off, they came closer till one of them attempted to bite my legs. They were trying to provoke my wolf out, which was impossible, I ran the dagger around it’s neck. One thing about royal daggers: it was the sharpest

Selene’s POV “I promise, if you let me, I will show you.” I was already hearing Ella’s tiny whimper, she must have understood what was going on and dear goddess, just bring me out of this mess, I just need to leave here. The suspense was well deserved because one of the wolves at the back shifted to his human form, and now there were only two who truly wanted my head on a stake. I held onto this little change that occurred that I was making progress.“Try me.” I insisted. The man who had just shifted had a bruised lip, and a deformed hand, I should have known… he looked oddly pale and dehydrated, prolonged health conditions, and lack of proper treatment. I took a step forward, barely able to place the other legs on the floor.“You say you heal, yet you are covered in bruises,” he pulled out a dagger from his pockets and he pointed it to me.“I can’t heal myself, but I can heal you.” I said. It was the honest truth but to them, it was a ploy to pull them closer because two wolves were

Selene's POVI waited for them to do their little chatter while I racked my mind for some ideas on how to get out of here. I studied their character. And like every typical wolf, they were greedy and eager for the menial things. I had an idea, I was just hoping they would accept it.After the banter wolf and the other wolves who were in the pack, they finally concluded that I should show them what I could do.‘Ella love, remember what I thought you back in uncle Lucians pack?”“That we are playing a game?”"Yes, love, count backwards from a thousand with your eyes and ears closed, and I will be with you soon?” “Yes.”When I saw them approaching, I braced myself. I was pulled up and rough-handled to the middle of the village, kicked to my knees. “She also said she knows the rogue king." One of the rogues said."Whatever we are rogues, this is what we do.” They bickered back and forth about my connection with Lucian and how they were not going to kill me, just use my powers, but I woul

Selene’s POV I had limited time to make a decision, and half of it required me to run because my life depended on it. I held Ella in my hands and took her to the truck, which was just feet away.“Mum, do I stay quite?” She said. And I nodded, she seemed rather excited to tuck herself back under the tarp. I helped her set it till I was certain no one would notice a little child was under the tarp. I poured more herbal potion into the truck, and then I began to push it out of the wolf pack while the rogues slept.I was leaping and making an effort to run, but it felt like with each step I took I was matching a soil coated with nails. It was so sad knowing I had the powers to heal anyone off any affliction, but something so minor as a bruised knee and ankle caused me so much distress. The healing process was super slow, and the blood staining the floor was leaving a track I couldn’t afford to make.I was finally out of the gathering of the wolves, off their borders, and into hunting ter

Lucian’s POV How long did she plan it? To run away from the pack because it was just so well planned and suddenly I couldn’t wrap my mind around it.She knew tracking her footstep would lead me nowhere since the pack recently had more wolves going in and coming out. I wasn’t a wizard or seer I could not tell which was which. I would have had a clue if I saw Ella's footprint, but there was none. She carried Ella some way or another, and they fled the pack.I asked the border wolves, and they said she was the only one who left her pack, and she carried so much farming equipment, saying she wanted to carry out an experiment, and they were passive with checking. Half of the equipment she carried out was dumped, and my suspicion was that Ella was inside one of those farming trucks. I had searched the neighboring parts around the pack all through the night, and it was already early in the morning. I have been running on and about all morning in search of her, yet it was as though she vani

Lucian’s POVThe first view to catch my attention was the sight of a lady whose eyes were covered, she was tied and brought into the pack like a slave. But with her long hair and regal dress, I didn’t need much introduction to know who she was. The question was: Why is she here? The guards bowed toward me, showing their respect, but I was covered in dismay and disappointment in the whole charade. The main reason why she was blindfolded was simply because no one except wolves who were sworn loyal members could see me, and while she was not, I had to cover my identity.I walked back into my room, and I took my mask, I wore it, then came back outside to see her. I commanded that she be left alone. And when she was left, I pulled her blindfolds off. Her eyes beamed with delight. And her lips stretched in a smile.“It’s nice seeing you, Valour.” She said, Valour? Did she lose her way here, or she doesn’t know where she is standing? Both can’t be possible.I was tensed and I had other thi

Selene’s POV My baby had a loaf of freshly baked bread in her hands, with some cream below the nose and a bottle of juice beside her with some bread crumbs just on her skirt. And while she ate, I took the opportunity to ask the lady who prepared it some questions.“So tell me, how is your pack tradition like?” I was handed a plate of bread with vegetables and a healing juice, which she offered to make specifically for my bruise. It looked roughly filtered I could still see the leaves.“It’s a nice pack, darling, just like its pack, matter of fact, if you stay long enough, you will get to witness the moon festival and also the birthday of our Alpha, it’s on the same day, everyone is looking forward to it.” She said,I took a bite from the bread, and I took a piece of meat and then some vegetables to go with it. “How’s the housing?” I asked again.A slight frown settled on her face. Visitors were housed by the pack, but rogues had to earn or buy one. She was already getting suspici

Selene’s POV I waited for the pack members to greet him before I took my little girl closer to him, he seemed immensely young and radiant, waving the pack members and lifting children up. Ella would be happy here with friends if the alpha was cheerful with everyone, and she would thrive in a society like this, honestly, it was everything. I watched in amusement and when he was done he was led back to the pack. This was it! I could feel it in my heart that this was the pack for me, and if the other lady had agreed that the pack was safe for rogues then yes it might as well be good. Now it was time to change my identity, so I spent the whole day going around the pack looking for ways to alter my looks, first it was cutting my hair till it was nothing but a ridiculous bob. Now my daughter's hair was cut, weaved and dyed and I acquired some new piercings, normally no one would know who she was because not all pack members saw the child of the alpha until they were fully grown to de

Selene's POV“Don’t thank me yet,” he replied lightly, though there was a seriousness in his eyes that told me he’d seen more than I cared to admit. “Rest now, and when you’re ready, we can talk. But first, you need to recover.”I looked away, remembering the sharp, bitter taste of the wind and the haunting sound of those rogues’ voices. “I’m a rogue,” I repeated, as if to convince myself that I could still be the fierce, independent warrior I’d always been. “I don’t usually need help.”He paused, his hands still working over my wounds. “Maybe not,” he said softly. “But even rogues have scars that run deeper than the skin. Let me help you patch those up tonight.”I wanted to protest, to cling to the pride that had kept me isolated for so long, but the truth was undeniable. I was tired—physically and emotionally battered. And deep down, I knew that letting someone in wouldn’t make me weak; it would simply make me human. With a sigh that seemed to come from the depths of my soul, I nodd

Selene’s POVI lashed out with my free arm, slamming my elbow into my attacker’s ribs, and he grunted, loosening his grip on my wrist for just a heartbeat. The chaotic sounds of the forest—the relentless storm, snapping branches, and the harsh murmurs of the rogues—filled my ears. I scrambled backwards, my heart pounding hard enough that I could almost hear it. I knew I had to run. I couldn’t stay here and be caught by these desperate fools.I bolted through the underbrush, adrenaline pounding in my veins, each step fueled by fear and fury. My breath came in ragged gasps as I dashed blindly through the forest, blood seeping from fresh cuts and old bruises alike. I didn’t dare look back, though I could hear the snarls and angry shouts trailing me in the distance. The wind still whipped at me, unrelenting, and for a moment I thought it would sweep me off my feet entirely. I fought it, clinging to the wet ground as if my life depended on it—because it did. I could almost taste the metall

Lucian’s POVAnother pack member, an older wolf with scars etched deep into his face, nodded slowly. “We owe you our lives. But… why are you out here alone, Mask? Lilac said you wouldn’t leave your post.” His tone was gentle yet filled with concern.I clenched my jaw. “I need to think,” I replied, more to myself than to them. The burden of leadership, the betrayal, and the constant threat from Alex and his allies—it was too much. I didn’t know if I could shoulder it any longer. The wind roared again, as if to remind me that there was no escape from destiny. I turned to leave, but then I paused. The pack’s eyes, filled with hope and desperation, held me in place. Their silent pleas for guidance, for reassurance, weighed heavily on me. I couldn’t abandon them—not when they needed me most.My mind was a storm of conflicting emotions. Anger, sorrow, and a deep-seated guilt churned inside me. I remembered Lilac’s words, the promise I had made. I remembered the faces of those who looked up

Lucian’s POV I was furious. Every muscle in my body burned with anger as I stormed out of the pack house. The recent events still stung like fresh wounds— Alex’s betrayal, the way everything had fallen apart, the weight of secrets. She should have not gone to the human realm she would die. And she knows this too well that she would die yet she did all this why! I pushed open the heavy door and stepped into the cold, unforgiving night. The wind hit me like a wall, whipping my hair and carrying the scent of rain and earth. My heart pounded in my chest, a relentless drumbeat that fueled my rage.I had left for the ward where Joan had been staying—a place I once thought was safe. Now it felt like a trap. I needed to be free, to run away from the constant reminders of failure and loss. Every step I took away from that house felt like a step toward escape. Yet even as I ran, I knew I couldn’t outrun the memories. They clung to me like shadows. Before I had even gathered my thoughts, a str
