The morning air was crisp and refreshing, a stark contrast to the suffocating atmosphere of the dining room.

They walked in silence for a while, the gravel crunching softly beneath their feet.

“You don’t have to let her treat you like that,” Alexander said finally, breaking the silence.

Sarah glanced at him, her expression conflicted. “She’s your mother,” she said quietly. “I don’t want to make things harder for you.”

Alexander stopped and turned to face her, his gray eyes searching hers. “She’s my mother, yes. But you’re my wife. And I won’t stand by while she disrespects you. You shouldn’t either.”

Sarah looked down, her fingers twisting nervously. “It’s not that simple,” she murmured.

“It is,” Alexander insisted, his voice firm but not unkind. “You’ve stood up to me plenty of times. You can do the same with her.”

She gave a small, humorless laugh. “You’re different,” she said, finally meeting his gaze. “With you, I feel like I can fight back. With her... I feel like I’m sixteen aga

Sarah returned to the study with a tray in her hands, balancing a steaming cup of coffee and a small plate of biscuits. She set it down on the edge of Alexander’s desk with exaggerated care, shooting him a smirk as she straightened.“Your coffee, sir,” she said, adopting a mockingly formal tone. “Three teaspoons of sugar, just as you requested. Though I think your dentist would have something to say about it.”Alexander grinned, taking the cup. “My dentist doesn’t know what he’s missing.” He took a sip, his eyes closing briefly as if savoring the taste. Then he opened one eye and looked at her. “You might survive this assistant thing after all.”Sarah leaned against the edge of the desk, her arms crossed. “Glad to hear it. So, boss, what’s next? More coffee? Should I shine your wheelchair? Maybe dust off your ego?”Alexander chuckled, setting the cup down. “Very funny. Actually, I thought it was time you learned about your new real job.”“Oh?” Sarah arched an eyebrow. “And what might

The atmosphere in the boardroom was electric with tension. The heavy oak doors creaked open, and Alexander entered, Sarah following close behind. She immediately felt the weight of the room’s scrutiny, powerful gazes appraising, dismissing, and judging her presence. At the head of the long table sat Lawrence Blake, Alexander’s father, his face a storm of barely contained fury. Beside him, a man who bore a striking resemblance to him, his younger brother, Gerald Blake, leaned back in his chair, exuding smug satisfaction.“Ah, Alexander,” Gerald drawled, his smile as sharp as a knife. “So good of you to join us.”Alexander’s jaw tightened. “I wasn’t aware I had a choice,” he said coolly, wheeling himself toward the table.Sarah kept her head down, trying to remain inconspicuous as she took a seat at the edge of the room. But her eyes never left Alexander, who radiated restrained anger as he parked his wheelchair at the table’s head, directly opposite his uncle.“I’m sure you’ve been inf

Alexander wheeled himself into the expansive CEO’s office, the room that had been his sanctuary, his command center.Sarah followed silently, her steps soft against the plush carpet. She could feel the weight of his frustration, the air thick with unspoken words. The office was as opulent as one might expect from a corporate giant like the Blake Group.Floor to ceiling windows offered a breathtaking view of the city skyline, and the furniture was sleek and modern, exuding an air of power. Yet, for all its grandeur, it now felt stifling to Alexander. He sighed heavily, rolling his chair to the large mahogany desk that dominated the room.Resting his elbows on the polished surface, he buried his face in his hands for a moment before straightening.“This place used to mean something to me,” he muttered. “Now it feels like a cage.”Sarah wanted to say something comforting, but before she could, the door opened. Alexander’s assistant, William, entered briskly, clutching a slim leather fold

The drive home was quieter than usual, the hum of the car a soothing backdrop to their conversation.Alexander gazed out of the window for a moment before speaking. “When I was sixteen, my grandfather passed away. He was the original founder of the Blake Group. His death hit my father hard, but it also left a gaping hole in the company’s leadership. My dad, Lawrence, stepped up, but he was more of an enforcer than a visionary. The board respected him, but they didn’t fear him.”Sarah listened intently, her usual playful demeanor replaced with genuine interest.“I was always close to my grandfather,” Alexander continued. “He taught me the ropes early on, how to negotiate, how to recognize talent, how to think ten steps ahead. When he died, I think a part of me felt responsible to carry on his legacy. So, I started working part time at the company during school breaks, absorbing everything I could.”“Were you the prodigy everyone claims you are?” Sarah teased gently.“Maybe,” he admitte

Alexander leaned back in his chair, the tension in his shoulders visibly easing as Sarah sat beside him.His piercing gaze settled on the mound of files stacked on the desk.“Sarah,” he said, his voice steady but laced with fatigue, “I need your help.”Her eyebrows lifted in surprise. “With what? Sorting papers? Organizing chaos?”He smirked at her attempt at humor. “Rummaging through chaos, actually. I need to figure out what’s salvageable in the jewelry department.”Her expression grew serious. “You trust me with that?”He leaned forward, resting his elbows on the desk. “You’ve got an eye for design, Sarah. I’ve seen the way you analyze things, meticulous, thoughtful. Besides, you’re my personal assistant now, aren’t you?”She rolled her eyes playfully but nodded. “All right, where do I start?”He gestured toward a smaller stack of files on the left. “Start there. Look for anything that mentions past collaborations or high value clients. I need to know who we can still rely on.”Sar

The muffled sound of Alexander’s deep voice echoed from the study down the hall.Though his words were indistinct, the tone was sharp, commanding, a man locked in battle with forces trying to strip him of his legacy.Sarah could picture him there, seated at the massive oak desk, surrounded by the trappings of power and wealth, fighting to reclaim the position that was rightfully his.The thought tightened her chest with guilt. How could she keep this secret when he was confiding in her, asking for her partnership, trusting her to stand by his side? She shook her head, pushing the guilt aside. This isn’t betrayal. It’s... self preservation. The room felt colder as Sarah closed her laptop, her hands trembling slightly as she tucked it away. She stood and moved to the window, pulling back the heavy drapes. The garden outside was a silvered patchwork under the moonlight, its elegance marred by a faint chill that matched her mood. Her reflection in the glass caught her attention. She looke

The estate was silent, save for the faint hum of the night wind brushing against the windows.Alexander made his way through the hall, his movements slower than usual. As he approached the master bedroom, he hesitated, his hand resting on the doorknob.Am I doing this for her... or for me?The thought froze him for a moment, but then he pushed the door open quietly. The soft glow of the bedside lamp illuminated the room in a warm, golden light.Sarah was sprawled across the bed, her hair a dark halo against the white pillows. One hand clutched the edge of the blanket, and her face was turned slightly toward his side of the bed, as if she’d unconsciously sought his presence.Alexander wheeled closer, his movements careful to avoid waking her.She looked peaceful in sleep, the faintest curve of a smile on her lips. For a moment, he just watched her, his heart tightening in a way that was both foreign and achingly familiar. What is it about her?He had met countless women in his life, mo

At breakfast, the dining room was unusually quiet. The morning light streamed through the tall windows, casting a warm glow on the elaborate spread prepared by the staff.Sarah sat across from Alexander, nervously fidgeting with her fork as the tension in the room became palpable.Alexander’s mother, Beatrice Blake, was seated at the head of the table, her sharp gaze flitting between her son and Sarah like a hawk circling its prey. She sipped her tea delicately, her composure as impeccable as ever, but the disdain in her posture was unmistakable.“Sarah,” Beatrice finally spoke, her tone clipped. “I trust you’ve had sufficient time to learn the responsibilities that come with being Alexander’s wife.”Sarah’s hand froze mid motion. She looked up, meeting Beatrice’s cool, assessing stare. “I’m doing my best,” she replied evenly, though her voice betrayed a hint of nervousness.Evelyn’s lips thinned. “Doing one’s best is admirable, of course. But this family requires excellence, not effo

The moment Sarah and Alexander stepped toward the entrance of their estate, the flashes of cameras and the shouts of journalists bombarded them.Reporters lined up outside their gates, their microphones raised, throwing out scandalous questions."Mr. Blake! How do you feel about your wife being seen with Sebastian Hargrove in a private lodge?""Mrs. Blake, is there trouble in your marriage?""Sebastian Hargrove was always a playboy, do you regret marrying Alexander?"Alexander’s hand on Sarah’s waist tightened, his expression darkening into a lethal glare. His jaw ticked as he stepped forward, shielding Sarah from the mob of cameras and questions."Back the hell off," he snapped, his voice cold and sharp enough to cut through the chaos. The reporters quieted slightly, some even taking a hesitant step back, but the braver ones continued."Are you divorcing your wife, Mr. Blake?""Is it true Sebastian Hargrove has always had feelings for her?"Alexander didn’t say another word, but the

Alexander gave her a solemn nod, like he was delivering the worst possible news. "Ugly, Sarah. Hideous. The absolute worst pairing I've ever seen. I mean, I looked at these pictures for a while, trying to make sense of them, but the moment I imagined you and Seb together?" He shook his head dramatically. "No. Just no."Sarah stared at him, dumbfounded. "So, you're not upset that people think I’m cheating? You're upset because you think Seb is ugly?""Exactly," Alexander said, looking almost pained as he folded the newspaper and tossed it onto the nightstand. "I mean, come on, Sarah. You and him? In what world does that pairing make sense?"Sarah opened her mouth, then closed it, struggling to keep up with his nonsense. "Okay, let me get this straight. You don’t care about the scandal?""Not really," Alexander shrugged. "We both know it’s fake, and I trust you. But I do care about the visual offense of you being paired with someone like him in the media. It’s disgraceful, really."Sara

As Victoria and Cecilia were standing outside the lounge, exchanging a few final words before parting ways, a movement caught their attention.Victoria’s gaze sharpened as she nudged Cecilia’s arm. “Look.”Cecilia turned, following Victoria’s line of sight, and immediately stiffened.Across the corridor, past the velvet ropes of the private suites, Sarah was walking alongside Sebastian. They moved quickly, almost too casually, as if they didn’t want to be noticed.Seb placed a hand on the small of Sarah’s back as he guided her up the stairs, leading her toward one of the secluded lodge rooms on the upper floor.A slow smirk spread across Victoria’s lips. “Well, well… what do we have here?”Cecilia quickly reached into her bag, pulling out her phone. “This could be gold,” she whispered as she began snapping pictures of Sarah and Seb disappearing into the private room.Victoria chuckled under her breath. “So the great Sarah Blake, the oh so loyal wife of Alexander, is sneaking off with

A desperate woman clinging to the last shreds of relevance.“So she’s running from her problems, drowning in drugs and strangers,” Sarah mused. “Pathetic.”“You almost sound disappointed,” Raven teased, arching a brow.Sarah tilted her head, a ghost of a smirk playing on her lips. “Not disappointed, just… unimpressed. I expected more of a struggle. Maybe an attempt to claw her way back into society.”Raven shrugged. “She knows there’s no coming back from this, Sarah. The elites aren’t stupid. They can smell desperation from miles away. The second she lost Alexander and her reputation, she became nothing more than a liability.”Sarah hummed in agreement, flipping through the documents on her desk. “Well, I hope she enjoys what little freedom she has left.”Raven leaned forward. “So, what now? Do we just watch her continue to self destruct?”Sarah chuckled softly. “No, I don’t believe in leaving loose ends. Let her drown a little longer, and when the time is right…” She met Raven’s gaze

Victoria had always been the life of the party. The woman who strutted through elite gatherings with an air of untouchable arrogance, the socialite who thrived on attention, and the one who always had something to say. But now… now she was a ghost in her own home. For weeks, she remained locked inside her room. The curtains drawn, the lights dim, and silence suffocating the once lively space. She ignored calls, avoided meals, and refused to step foot outside.Eleanor Caldwell, her mother, had noticed. Of course, she had. It was impossible not to when the daughter she had so carefully molded into the perfect image of power and prestige had suddenly become… nothing. At first, Eleanor thought it was just another one of Victoria’s temper tantrums, some dramatic sulking over a petty loss. Perhaps another socialite had outshined her at an event, or maybe one of her flings had dared to ignore her. But when days turned into weeks, concern began to creep in.She knocked on Victoria’s door one

Cecilia and Victoria stepped out of the hotel lobby, their faces pale and their expressions unreadable, though their downcast eyes spoke volumes. The weight of what had happened sat heavy on their shoulders, pressing down with an unbearable force.Dressed in fresh clothes but unable to shake the feeling of filth clinging to their skin, they walked stiffly toward the waiting car that had been arranged for them. The driver didn't say a word as he opened the door, his gaze respectfully lowered. They slid inside without protest, without their usual air of entitlement, just silent, defeated figures fading into the morning light.Across the street, Sarah sat in her sleek black car, one hand lazily resting on the steering wheel as she watched them leave through the tinted windows. Her lips curled slightly, but there was no mirth in the gesture, just quiet satisfaction. They had spent months thinking they were untouchable, tormenting her at every turn. Now, the scales had finally begun to tip

Seb grabbed her face again, leaning in until his lips almost brushed against her ear. “I would. And I already did.”Tears filled Cecilia’s eyes as she turned to the only person she could beg for mercy. “Seb, please… please, don’t do this…”Seb stood up, adjusting his suit. He looked down at them with pure, unfiltered disgust. “You never had mercy for Sarah. Why should I have mercy for you?”With that, he turned his back on them, walking toward the door.As he left, his final words rang in their ears:“Consider this the price for your greed.”The door shut behind him, and the last thing Victoria and Cecilia saw was the men closing in around them.Their screams never left the room. They both threw in their names in desperation, their voices shaking as they tried to assert their importance.“I’m Cecilia Hastings,” she declared, lifting her chin despite the fear creeping into her bones. “Bethrothed to Alexander Blake.”“And I am Victoria Caldwell,” Victoria added hastily. “Alexander’s sis

Seb leaned back in his chair, his smirk growing as he watched Victoria and Cecilia exchange wary glances. He knew they didn’t trust him, and that was fine. He didn’t need them to trust him, he needed them desperate enough to take the bait.He pulled out his phone, sending a quick message. Within minutes, the penthouse doors swung open, and a few more of his “friends” walked in, two well dressed men from affluent families and a woman draped in a glittering dress that barely covered her skin. They greeted Seb casually, as if this were just another wild night in the world of the elite.Seb clapped his hands together, turning back to Victoria and Cecilia. “Now that we’re all here, why don’t we have some fun?”Victoria arched a brow. “Is this a party or a negotiation?”Seb laughed. “Why not both?”The drinks flowed freely. Seb made sure of that. He never let their glasses stay empty for long.At first, Cecilia was hesitant, eyeing him with suspicion, but Victoria? She embraced the game, en
