Dylan's POV:
In an isolated valley named Mudgrave, there's a crossroad where it is said to be a meeting place for those who wanted to see the one they called "The Crossroad Demon" a cool name for someone who can grant wishes, and in return, he must be rewarded with an equal value of the wishes, an eye for an eye, a soul for a soul, and a payment worth the value of their precious wishes.
To summon this so-called Crossroad Demon, you need to bury a box containing some graveyard dirt, the bone from a black cat, and a drop of the wish maker's blood in the middle of a crossroad during the new moon. The demon will appear according to the liking of the wish maker to prevent him from being afraid and make him more comfortable while making his wish. Once the deal has been sealed, the wisher's soul will be traded for a wish.
It's been a long time since the crossroad demon has been summoned. As time goes by, the crossroad demon became a myth and his name has changed to Djinn, Genie, or Soul collector, but his favorite amongst all of the names given to him was "The Contractor" it's classier, elegant, and sounded like a real businessman. I mean, he's been doing a lot of negotiations and deals so far and it's just fair to be branded like a professional if you know what I mean.
This classy, sophisticated handsome Supreme Being was no other than yours truly. Yeah, Dylan is the name, and granting wishes is my game. I've been doing this for as long as I could remember from the very beginning of my existence and I'm having so much fun and pleasure collecting the souls of those greedy humans who cannot be contented with what they already have and still asking and wanting for more.
I was out busy soul-hunting when I felt a dark presence summoning me. Yes, once I've been summoned, there's no way of resisting it. I have no choice but to comply with their calling, the feeling of longing and wanting something so hard attracts me so much like magnets pulling me closer. I can't control these urges; the next thing I knew, I was at the crossroad with my caster.
"Why did you summon me?" I glared at the one who summoned me. He is no ordinary man, and I don't think that he is human. His aura is different from the ones I've encountered. His aura is darker than I've ever felt before.
"You're the Contractor, right? I am here to make a wish," his voice resembles a furious beast.
"Do you know the price for a wish? It's a soul for a wish and from what I can see, you don't have one," I reminded him.
I tried to act cool in front of him but terror coursed through my nerves. He's more dangerous than I thought and I need to be very cautious on this one. My power is limited to granting wishes only and cannot be used in self-defense. Except if my caster is in trouble, I must protect them at any cause. My power can turn into weapons to defend my wisher's life until I get my payment. The same goes for me they can't hurt me as long as the deal is not yet over.
Some cheating assholes are trying to get rid of me so that they can get away from the deal. Little did they know that once the deal has been sealed their fate has been made. Their soul will be mine one way or another. But it only applies to humans and I never encountered one who has a power greater than mine up until today.
"You're right. I don't have a soul, but I can give you a better offer. The one that I'm sure you cannot refuse to accept," he confidently said.
"There's nothing you can give that is greater than your very own life, but I am intrigued by what you have to offer, so go on and humor me," I provoke him.
"How about your freedom?" His words seemed to cut my whole being like the cold breath of death. "Don't you want to be free from all these?" His voice is roaring like thunder spreading his arms wide open as the cool breeze crawls over my entire body making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
"How is that even possible?" Terror streaked through me that my eyes widened with alarm and feared to close my eyes. "Nobody can lift my curse except for..." Terror choked me and stole my words.
"Don't you get it up until now you don't know who I am?" He gleamed at me, and I can see hell in his eyes.
"Y-you are the Devil," I stutter.
I didn't recognize him because he looks like just an ordinary human with a different face. He is wearing a black suit just like me, but classier and more sophisticated. The only thing that makes him different from everyone else is he carries this dark powerful orb inside him. His mere presence is enough to immobilize anyone when panic seized their brain and a nameless dread engulfed them.
"You're not as dumb as you look," he sarcastically said to me. "About my proposal, is it good enough for you?"
He just leveled the playing field so it's fair enough to ask for his wish. "Tell me, what's your heart's desire?" I said to him and bring out the contract from thin air.
It must have been something really valuable to him that he seeks my help to do it. He took out a picture from nowhere and gives it to me. It was an image of a young girl who looks pale and sick. She looks so innocent and harmless to me. I see nothing special about her. She's just an average teenage girl, so what does he want from her?
"This is my wish. Her name is Aria Flockart and lives in Crescent Hill Valley. I want her soul," he seriously said to me while looking straight into my eyes. "I don't care how you do it. All I want is her soul," he clearly demanded.
"Most of the wishes that I've granted were material things. It's quite tricky considering that it's the first time I encounter this kind of demand," I honestly said to him.
"Can you do it or not?" He sounded pissed and raises his voice. "C'mon now, I'm trying to level down here you are one of my finest creations and you've been collecting the most number of souls in the past centuries. Don't tell me you're losing your touch?"
"They don't call me the all-mighty Supreme Being Contractor for nothing," I self-proclaimed. Well, maybe I made up some of those words so I would look cooler than I already am, and additional self-praise is not such a bad thing. I force myself with a fake smile and hand him over the contract. "You know how this works, signed here and we've got ourselves a deal." I took out my dagger to make a small cut on his index finger, so he could sign the contract using his blood, but he is the Devil so he uses his very own essence to sign the contract.
I went to Crescent Hill Valley to look for a girl named Aria. I can feel her presence calling out to me, begging me to come to her the moment I set foot on the valley. For some reason, I'm a sucker for those who are filled with negative energy. Their desperation, depression, longing, and wanting for something is giving me so much energy and power. I feed on those people who desperately seeking salvation and redemption. They would do anything and everything to get out of the situation they are buried in. Those lost souls were potential wish makers and they are the ones who could not resist what I have to offer, the wishes.
I can hear Aria's prayer not to save her but to end her suffering. She wanted to end her life. She must have been suffering all of her life to wish for it. Should I be happy? She just made my job easy. Her soul for my freedom, there's nothing more I wanted in this world or the afterlife but my freedom. I decided not to waste any time and pay a visit to Sacred Heart Medical Centre where she was admitted.
I remember the last words the Demon King said to me before we parted ways that I have to be careful for she may be heavily guarded and he is right. There is some sort of barrier that is surrounding the place. I decided to stay outside of the facility to observe and activate my stealth mode, so no human can see me. I was standing beside the cherry blossom tree when I first saw Aria. She was looking through the windowpane. She looks so weak and lifeless. Her negativity is pulling me closer to her. She's like a drug that is so hard to resist. Until she saw me, I couldn't believe that she could see me even if I made myself invisible to a human's naked eye.
I can feel that she feels the same for me. I don't know how or why but I feel connected to her in some ways I can't explain. It didn't take too long before I convinced her to make her first wish. It was no surprise that she was easily persuaded. With my irresistible charm and impressive marketing skills, "NO" was never an option, but what surprises me is her wish. Of all the things she could have asked me to grant her is unexpected. She only wishes for a kiss. Unlike others, they wish for material things.
The contract says that my wisher cannot harm me up until the deal is over, this one is different. The moment our lips were locked on each other, I felt my life force has been sucked out of me. She took all of the strength I had from my body and drained me up to the last drop of my life force almost killing me. I know that I have no soul and am just a spirit, but I could have been a goner if we continued to kiss.
Although I am aware of what is happening to me, I couldn't let go and the more our kiss intensifies the more I got lost in our kiss. I never knew I could feel something as pleasurable and intimate as that in my entire existence and I wanted to prolong it even putting my life at risk. I use up the last strength I had to pull myself away from her before she took my life. I felt really weak that it took me a whole day to rest until I merely regain half of my strength.
But that's not what bothers me the most, why do all of a sudden I feel something? I used to be a ruthless demon with a heart of stone. But now, I have this unexplainable weird feeling that’s been bugging me ever since we had that kiss. Aside from that, I suddenly become aware of my surroundings like the busy streets, the night's cold breeze, the sound of the children playing at the park, and the refreshing feeling of the raindrops falling on my head. I'm having nostalgia and never thought I would experience all these things that only humans are capable of feeling.
"Who the hell is she?"
She is far more dangerous than I thought. Looks are deceiving. I don't think she is human but if she is not, why does she have a soul? From what I can see she is not aware of her power and even if I ask her I don't think she knows the answer. She is more innocent than she looks.
If the Demon King wants her so badly, it means that she is more valuable than anything else in this world. With her power, she can be the most dangerous weapon if possessed by the wrong hand. I need to know more about her and find out what she was.
I need to see her again. I mean we still have unfinished business and apart from that, I wanted to get to know her more. To be honest, I can relate to her pain and suffering. I feel so connected to her, despite these weird unexplainable feelings I have for her, I shouldn't let my guard down and never give in to her charm.
That night I went to her room and gather all of my courage to see her once again. She looks different from the first time I saw her. She looks healthier than before, and her skin is no longer pale. Is it just I or she is looking radiant and blooming? I never expected that she looked pretty if you stared at her a little bit longer. The more you look at her the more you will see her natural beauty. Why am I even complimenting her?
As much as I wanted to turn the other way and avoid staring at her, my eyes won't cooperate. I just can't take my eyes off her.
"Are you here to collect my soul?" she asked me casually.
"No, and to be honest I'm not sure what I am doing here. All I know is that something about you captivates me and I want to see you once again," I said to myself while looking into her eyes.
I kept staring at Aria's lips whenever she speaks and all I can think of is our kiss. I know that something has awakened inside her because I can feel the dark force in her, but still, I sense no threat in her.
She is too nosey and keeps asking questions. Normally, I easily get irritated but why do I find her attitude cute? Instead of getting mad at her questions, I tried to answer her honestly. Aria is too innocent and kind. She is too trusting and not aware of the danger that surrounds her.
"How about another..."
I immediately stop her from making another wish. I don't usually care for the caster, but for some reason, I want no harm to come for her.
"Nope, no more kisses for you, Missy. No repetition of wishes," I said to her, but deep down inside, I want to feel her lips once again and taste her innocence from her kiss.
"If you're not here to collect my soul and not here for my second wish, then why are you here for?" She raised her brow.
The corner of my mouth quirked up. "Stop pretending like you don't care. I know that you've been looking for me the whole day." I think to myself.
I know it was a lame excuse and I could have thought of a better way to be with her but the first thing that comes out of my mouth was to invite her out on a date. I just wish that she will not reject my invitation because that would be very devastating. It will destroy my self-esteem and my ego as a man. It will kill me in an instant out of embarrassment.
I reached out my arm and open the palm of my hand inviting her to hold on to it while looking straight into her eyes. My charm works every single time I do that.
"Take my hand if you wish to come with me."
"No!" she bluntly said to me. "Why would I trust you?"
"Are you fucking kidding me?" I exclaimed. I never get rejected in my entire existence and she simply decline my offer. "When was the last time you get out of this shitty place and see the other side of the world? I am offering you a chance of a lifetime to see and explore the world free of charge," I tried to convince her.
She looks at me with tears shimmering in her eyes. I can feel the hesitation and the burden weighing on her.
"What is the use of all these? Sooner or later you will collect my soul," she sadly said.
Suddenly, my chest hurts. I can feel my heart pounding hard like it wants to burst out of my chest. There is a rainbow of emotions flowing in my system.
"I am dying?" I said to myself. "Why am I feeling this way?"
I thought that something bad had happened to me because this kind of emotion was foreign to me. It is not something threatening, but a feeling of thrill and excitement. It's been so long since I felt something. My hearts stop beating the time I became a Djinn, but after that kiss, I can feel my heart beating once again. She awakened my feelings.
"Can we just forget about that part of the contract and enjoy this moment while we still can?"
Meeting Aria may be a curse, but why do I feel like it was a blessing?
Aria's POV:My mind is saying no but my heart didn't think twice when he asked me to take his hand to go with him to an unknown place. I know it's wrong to go with a stranger but why do I have a feeling that I've known him for so long? He may be dangerous but why do I feel safe when I'm with him? He's not even that charming, I mean he is not that good-looking compared to other men, but why can't I say no to him?Is he using some kind of spell on me to lure me into his lair? It's a bit scary and yet exciting at the same time and almost electric, impossible to ignore. Like that inexplicable feeling of compelling pull between two magnets, we are drawn together in a way neither of us may understand. I am somehow bound to him.I held onto his hands and the next thing I knew is that we were somewhere out far from the medical center where I am admitted."D-Dylan, where are we?" I curiously said to him while looking around and searching for a familiar face. "Are we still in Crescent Hill Vall
Aria’s POV:I tried my best to act normal and ignore the weird things that is happening around us. I don’t want to ruin everything that Dylan worked hard for. He put his best effort to make this date work even if I am just a human and he is a powerful demon. This is my only chance to go out away from the hospital and I want to make the best out of it.We go to the Crescent River where everybody gathers to release hundreds of floating lanterns onto the river. "These floating lanterns are meant to guide the spirits back to their world," Dylan carefully explains. As much as I wanted to continue our date, some things can be ignored, so I decided to be honest with him."D-Dylan, can we skip this part of the tour?" My voice was thick with fear.Dylan noticed that I was starting to feel uncomfortable when he saw that I was freezing in terror. My hands were sweaty and clammy. My eyes were gazing at the floor and were too frightened to lift my head. He cupped my face and lifted a little and sa
Aria's POV:"Dylan, no!"That was the last thing I said before I realized that I was back in the hospital room. I was down on my knees on the floor, and my eyes were filled with tears. My heart was uneasy pounding too fast and about to jump out of my chest. I'm certain that Dylan is unconscious almost gone before I returned to my room. Is it because his energy becomes weak and used his last strain of power to transport me back here? Even my clothes were back to normal as if everything was just a dream.I don't understand what's going on and how his power works but I know that he is in pain and badly hurt. I wiped my tears dry, get on my knees and look outside the window hoping to see him, but he is nowhere in sight."Dylan, where are you? Please be safe," I whispered. The tears once again fall from my eyes.I was startled when the door opened then Clarren shows up in a hurry and panting."Aria, I heard you screaming. Are you hurt?" he panicky said to me while scanning every inch of my
Aria's POV: "Clarren..." My lower lip trembled and keeps swallowing excessively as I have no excuse to say about the massive hole in the wall. "Shall I tell him the truth, but what if he can't handle the truth?" I said to myself. I hold my silence while thinking about what to say to him. We both froze staring at each other until he finally breaks the ice. "Tell me Aria, when did you become stronger? I want to know everything," he seriously said to me. Judging from his reaction and the way he glanced at me. He doesn't look surprised at all as if he knew what I was capable of doing. "Does he know who I am?" Questions keep popping into my head. "Clarren, did you know something about the barrier surrounding the center?" I curiously ask him. I wanted to find out whether he has something to do with the barriers and he has information about me that I don't know. He walks closer to the wall and looks in the direction where my finger is pointing to. "You can see the cleansing fire barrier
Dylan's POV: I was crawling my way back to my fortress and used my remaining energy to send Aria back to the medical center. The pain all over my body is excruciating as if my flesh was being ripped off, my limbs are being torn apart and the burning sensation is too agonizing as if my body is being burnt from the inside out. Aside from that, I'm having shortness and difficulty of breathing that never happened before because not only that I am a Supreme Being, but I am also a spirit and should no longer experience this kind of pain. I was lucky that I made it in the nick of time hoping that my spirit vessel would be rejuvenated since I was in my fortress."What is going on with me? First, I experience having sensations and feelings that I never felt before, now my senses are more sensitive and my body is experiencing pain as if I'm turning into a mortal. What is she and how did she do it?"I lay down on my bed and rested. Days had passed and my vessel is not healing. I haven't regaine
Dylan’s POV:I saw people closing their windows and doors as they don't want to get involved. I can tell that they will be happy if those men catch up to me for everybody hates me. I tried my best to run faster, but one of the men was able to catch up and quickly jumped on me. We both fell to the ground with my face down. My head hit hard on the solid rock and I instantly felt light-headed. The blood from my head runs down my face. The rest of the men catch up on us and surround me while I am trying to scan them one by one hoping to recognize their faces. Unfortunately, I was not able to see them clearly with my eyes all covered with blood. They start to beat the hell out of me while I am still down on the ground. They continue beating me up until all of their hands were covered with blood, theirs and mine. I got so weak. My face and body were in total pain that I can barely move. They don't stop even for a minute to take a quick rest. They just keep on beating me without any remorse
Dylan's POV: "Don't send Shithead to the valley he will only bring disaster to the innocent civilians and it's going to be chaotic!" I panicky said to the Demon King."That's the main objective, moron!" I felt a jolt of anger in his tone. He glared at me, and I see the hell of fire burning from his blazing red eyes. "When did you start caring about innocent lives? Don't tell me you're getting soft on them. It's unlikely of you to show compassion to others." His brows drew together and started to doubt me."I'm not, but what you're doing is a declaration of war on heaven," I carefully explain to him."We are at war the moment that the thing inside her awakened, we cannot just sit here and wait," he seriously said to me.He leans over to me and touches my head. I can feel a strong volt of electricity running through my spiritual vessel, giving me unimaginable power. My body is fully charged with a massive thunderbolt of lightning energy roaring in every inch of my being. This power is
Dylan’s POV:I was about to hit him back when I heard Aria's voice."Dylan, stop!"We both stop when we heard her call out my name. Both of us look at Aria's location."He is Dylan?" The guy confusedly asks her."You guys were talking about me?" I'm a bit excited and thrilled to know that she talked about me to somebody. "Is she really into me? I mean who can't resist this devilish charm?" I said to myself."It's not what you think," Aria immediately replied giving me a deadpan stare."Why are you all tied up?"I rush over to her bedside and unchained her hands and feet. The unknown man was about to stop me, but I pushed him away by waving my hand toward him using my dark force energy. He slammed and hit his back on the concrete wall leaving a massive crack in the wall.He stood up unharmed as if nothing happened and when he was about to fight back, Aria went in front of me making herself my human shield."Please, stop fighting," she begged us."You don't have to protect me, Missy, I
Dylan's POV:The ray of light was beaming through the small window. I can feel the warmth of the sun and slowly open up my eyes. My body was sore and stiff when I tried to move. My head is heavy, and my vision is fuzzy trying to see where exactly am I."Dylan, you are finally awake."I heard a familiar voice and when my vision started to get clear, it is confirmed that it was no other than Freya who is standing in front of me and looking down at me."Where am I?" I asked her feeling confused and disoriented. "Where is everybody?" I force myself to stand and sat on the bed. "Where is Aria?"I look around me trying to find a familiar face. I realized that we were back in the fortress of Silent Willow forest."Dylan, you need to stay calm. You have sustained severe injuries in your body, and you need to get more rest," Freya tries to change the
Aria's POV:I regain consciousness and found myself lying on the marble pedestal in the middle of nowhere. I noticed that all of my clothes were gone, but I didn't feel cold. There's a lush warm sensation within me. There is no pain in my body and no wounds or scar. I feel light as a feather and no heavy feeling or burden is weighing on me. I never thought that I was going to experience this euphoric feeling and tranquillity in my life. There is a rainbow of emotions at my disposal and yet, why do I still feel empty?"Am I dead?"That's the first thing that comes to my head. I don't feel threatened or worried and sense no harm. I get up, sat down on the pedestal, and look around me to see my surroundings all I can see was a bright light of infinite nothingness."Where am I?" I whispered to myself.I walk around trying to figure out what is going
Dylan's POV:Death is inevitable. I heard those words from Aria when we first met and trick her into making her first wish. We will all die anyway. She said it without a flinch. Aria is not afraid to die at that very moment because she felt that she has no reason to live and it is easier to accept death. Knowing that there's nothing to leave behind. That was before we found love. Now we are all gathered here on this battlefield fighting for our lives because we wanted to live. Ironic isn't it? There are moments like this when I wanted to give up and give in. Surrender to the darkness because there's nowhere to go. I feel trapped and lost with no hopes left in me, but when I think of Aria. No matter how difficult the situation is, I just can't let go of the possibility that one day we can be together living a normal and peaceful life. That small chance, a glimpse of hope, and the possibility are giving me enough strength and
Dylan's POV:"Dylan, wake up!"The agonizing pain in my head awakened my sore body. The stench of a thousand burning corpses fumes all over the place. My lungs were congested with thick smoke from the fire giving me non-stop coughing and difficulty of breathing."Dylan, wake up!"I heard it again. Someone is calling my name. "Where am I?" I confusedly said to myself. "Am I dreaming?" Still confused about what is going on with my surroundings and me."Geez, he lost it. Try to shake him or something." I heard another voice talking to the one who is calling out my name.My vision was still hazy trying to figure out what had happened. I tried to get up and look around me, then I saw Emann rubbing a piece of cloth on my forehead."Your head is bleeding try not to move too much," she softly said to me wh
Dylan's POV:This is it. The beginning of the end and the war will lead to the downfall of the Kingdom of Hell. I should feel excited that finally, it would be over, but I can't deny that my feelings are somehow divided. I am afraid and feared for the safety of Aria and the rest of the squad who will fight against the most powerful demon. There is thunder roaring like a beast outside the fortress. We are all startled upon hearing the eerie sound and decided to take a peak from the small opening of the fortress to see what is going on outside. We saw a huge thick red cloud from where the thunder came from, heading to our location. Unlike the dark cloud already covering the entire third stage of hell, this one brings acid rain, which is as red as human blood, and very destructive lighting that annihilates everything it touches. The cloud and storm are just a diversion. We are pretty sure that demon soldier
Dylan's POV:A great philosopher once said that if you want to succeed in life then your desire for success must be greater than anything else. There is no room for failure. I may be turning back into a human being, but I am still a demon and I will do anything in my power to get Aria's wing no matter the odds. Even if it means I have to return to my old ruthless self again.I let Aria, and the others go outside the cave for I don't want her to see the monster in me. I love her and I am afraid that she will resent me if she witnesses my true nature. It took me almost an hour before I finally reached the exit of the cave and everybody is waiting patiently for me to come out of the cave.As expected, there are all busy fighting the orcs. They are doing their best to hold their ground while I was busy negotiating with the Queen of the Damned."What took you so long?
Dylan's POV:"Yes," Aria's quick response to my proposal. "Yes, I will marry you, Dylan Lockey!" she repeats her answer will all sincerity and a rainbow of emotions at her disposal.Everyone releases an audible sigh and forcibly claps their hands to show support for our engagement. They don't want to ruin the moment, so nobody said anything to contradict the happy scene.I stood up and inserted the ring on the fourth finger of Aria's left hand and just now realized that it was no ordinary ring. The size is adjusted to the finger of the owner of the ring and the color of the gemstone changes depending on Aria's mood. Aria looks very impressed with her ring. I can see the wide smile on her face and the sparkling look in her eyes."Do you like it?" I asked her even though I already knew the answer, it is still good to hear her say those words."I love it," she quick
Dylan’s POV:We are busy testing the powers of the silver fox when a group of angel soldiers arrived on the scene. One of them is dressed differently from the rest of the military troops and from what I can tell, he possesses the highest rank in the military. His armor is gold-plated, unlike the others who wore silver armor. He carries badges that are pinned on his armor which stated his achievements from the previous wars. He wore a crimson red robe that I think serves no purpose but he did look so damn cool with it as if he is really in authority and has the power to control the situation. His wings are equipped with titanium blades with magical spells on them. The spell appears to be a demon-cleansing spell similar to the spell that was engraved on all of their weapons. Weak types of demons are vulnerable to this kind of weapon. They don't have enough power to deflect the effect of the spells. H
Dylan's POV:Despite our best effort to control the situation in the Southern Hemisphere, the demons are getting closer to the barrier, and more human lives are becoming casualties of war. Night and day the phoenix couple has stayed up on guard to ensure that nobody else gets hurt.Over the years, demons have learned how to disguise themselves, walk and live amongst humans. They have increased in number and are smarter than ever. Like me, they have learned how to hide their powers so that demons and angels cannot detect them. Hiro, Emann, and I were in charge of evacuating the humans and taking them to a safe place. We find it hard to identify the demons and the humans for they all look the same."Hiro, check everyone before you take them to the safe house. We can't afford to let a demon in the headquarters," I reminded him."I can't detect which one is the demon and which one is hum
