4: His Amber Eyes

The other woman laughed. “How high you think of yourself, you rogue! You think you can defeat Hera in a duel? I guess you don’t know that she’s the Luna of Blue Faction pack. If you are thinking that you have a chance on winning against her, then you are a complete lunatic!”

The men on her sides nodded, agreeing on her. I couldn’t share the same sentiment, though.

“Hera, you shouldn’t waste your time on a pathetic girl like her. Why don’t you let me take care of this?”

Hera nodded. I scoffed and shook my head a bit when the other girl stepped forward. She’s as tall and slender than me but I know she’s a little older.

My eyes drifted down to what she’s holding. A whip. I raised my eyebrow at her.

“I didn’t know people in the city likes to bring toys in the battlefield.”

“You! How dare you look down on my precious whip! I will give you a lesson!”

She sauntered, very eager to lash her whip on me. But before it could hit me, I caught the end of it and pulled hard that made her lose her balance. I turned and wrapped the whip around my body so I can get close to her. I then kicked her stomach hard that threw her away.

I tore the whip and threw it. “Poor stance. Poor stamina. Let me ask you, what were you doing all this time? You should practice your martial arts harder instead of putting those unnecessary colors in your face.”

I was raised by Grandpa to be fair and value kindness at all times, but he also kept on reminding to not tolerate bullies and give them what they deserve.

“You—”

“Enough, Aria,” the woman named Hera said.

So, the weak girl is Aria. She actually has a nice and very feminine name. It doesn’t suit her.

“Who are you?” Hera asked.

“Nadia Luther,” I said with pride. Why would I be afraid to tell my name, anyway. In fact, it is better that they would know that someone as righteous as me exists.

“Doesn’t ring a bell. Sounds irrelevant,” the old man with a white fan butt in.

“Your face looks irrelevant either,” I countered. I have respect to the elders, alright. But in this case, I know that they are at the wrong side. I can’t tolerate such inhumane act. And to think that they are all from elite packs in the city. They should be the role model, but what are they doing?

“Disrespectful!” says the old man.

“Now, who else wants to fight me? Bring it on.” I faced them head-on. If there is one thing I’m afraid of, that is Grandpa’s beating. Other things don’t scare me.

“Arrogant,” Hera said and fluidly leaped on the air. When she landed on the ground a couple of yards away from me, she’s already shifted into her wolf form.

Feisty.

I cocked my head and looked at the boy at my back. He looked at me but I sensed his hesitation. His face was covered with his messy dark ocher hair, but I saw his eyes.

Daylight.

That was the first thing that came into my mind the moment I saw his eyes. Those were two pools of amber that looked so brilliant and warm. I feel a little weird. It was as if I was struck by something I couldn’t fathom.

“Don’t worry, everything will be alright. Stay back and wait for me to get this done,” I assured him with a smile before I faced the feisty woman.

A ripping sound escaped my throat. In just a matter of seconds, I am already in my wolf form. It’s a pity, though. My clothes were torn and I don’t know where to get another one in the middle of the city. I guess I have to run back to the mountain later on.

I positioned myself, waiting for my dearest enemy to make the first move. I growled at her in a mocking way. If she thinks that I am afraid of her just because she’s the Luna of whatever that pack is, then she is a big fool.

She attacked first. The attack was an aggressive one but she still managed to make it look graceful. Hmm… not bad.

I didn’t return the attacks at first and just kept on dodging. It is to study her way of fighting. In just a small span of time, I was able to read her moves and calculated it precisely. She’s not bad, but she’s not that good either. She has a good stamina but has a weak body. I’m sure with just three blows from me, she won’t be able to stand for three days. I don’t want to hurt women. It’s against the principles Grandpa taught me, but I guess this one is an exception, right?

“Why are you keep on dodging, rogue? Hah! Let me guess, you are chickening out, are you?” I heard the annoying high-pitched voice of that girl again. Let me recall her name. Is it Aria? I admit she’s kind of pretty. Such a waste.

I growled and did my first attack. I should get serious and get this done soon. I am getting hungry.

Hera was thrown away. I was surprised. I thought she can still hold her ground on my first blow at least. I didn’t even exert so much force on that attack. I hissed inwardly. Such a weakling.

Aria’s face turned sour. “Hera!”

Hera stood immediately even though I’m sure that her left shoulder hurts like hell. It’s obvious on her stance. I’ve never been in a real fight before this, I had only practiced with Grandpa, but maybe my keen eyes are gift to me. I can easily spot the abnormalities of the things around me.

She attacked me again, aggressively and impatiently. She even attempted to wound my face with her sharp claws but I was faster and stronger, it wasn’t hard for me to turn the tables.

She was thrown further than where she was thrown the last time when I hit her stomach and neck. I had even scratched her injured shoulder. Those other leaders with her hurried at her side when she growled in so much pain.

I didn’t waste time. While they were all busy, I took the opportunity to run away with the boy. I carried him at my back and ran towards the mountains.
