The sky is painted a deep black and the surrounding would have been so dark without the light of two moons, and the twinkling of stars. She finally saw why they say it will be dark soon. It is like the sky was water and someone poured black paint, spreading from the center and down.
"What could it be with the sunrise?" she asked while turning her head to the window. Would it be sky blue paint? But what of the clouds and sun? Would they just appear? Slowly or just as fast?
"Fuwa!"
Mizuko abruptly sits up, her large eyes pierced at her Kebano. "Roya! Where have you been all day? I was worried about you!"
"Fuwa Fuwa!"
"Ah right!" She faintly smiles. "I can't understand you."
Roya looked at her with those adorable big eyes. If only she could understand this little fluff, she won't need that guy. Speaking of that guy? Where could he be right now? Why isn't he comfortable in a house? She wants to know.
"There is so much I want to ask you about, Roya. The thing is I just can't understand you." She sighs heavily as Roya crawls towards her. "Is there no spell or magic for me to understand you?"
When Roya shakes her head side to side, Mizuko slouched, her mouth curved into a sad smile.
"If only there was something I can do." Just after she said that her eyes widened as an idea crept into her head. "Let's sneak out and find Kenshi. He can understand you!"
"Fuwa Fuwa!"
Even though it was a disapproving yell from Roya, Mizuko didn't notice at all. She tossed her blanket to the side and put her feet down the wooden floor.
In front of the window, she looks outside. The moonlight makes the surroundings fairly vivid in her sight. She gulped, thinking she must be crazy thinking he'd find Kenshi when the night is this chilly.
Before she goes out she bit her lower lip, turning her head to the door. The darkness is not so bad, she tells herself. And when she face the front, she jolted at the sight of Kenshi.
With a hand on her chest, she twitched her upper lip at him. He only chuckled, a charming smirk he plasters on his mouth as he rests his arms on the window stool.
"I see you have an idea on your pretty little mind," he muttered, tilting his head slightly to one side. "Thinking of running away, lady?"
"No! Of course not!" she replies, crossing her arms across her chest. "I was on my way to see you. I have some questions I'd like to ask. It's about Roya."
Kenshi then looks at the little Kebano who's floating beside Mizuko. He was raising his brows at the little white fluff.
"What about your Kebano?"
"How can I understand her like you can understand yours?"
"Focus and try your best to understand," he simply answered that made her frown.
"I am trying my best to understand her! I've focused too!"
"Did you? Hmmm." He brought his fingers closer to his chin and pretends to think. "If that is so, it is mostly your fault you can not understand your... Kebano."
"Eh? But I am trying my best, you perv! I am even asking for your help!"
"Then don't worry. Some of these days, you will surprise yourself that you can hear your Kebano's voice."
That alluring smile he was plastering ironed the frowns Mizuko has on her forehead. She just met this guy. It will be best if she doesn't trust this man so fast. Trust should never even be given in the first place to anybody at all.
"Anyway, why are you outside? Where will you sleep?"
"Someone like me should not sleep in somebody else's house unless I am injured. This house you are in is filled with magic to protect the elves. If I enter, it will disappear and I will need to guard the house myself." He suddenly giggled. "But you are too Earthly to know that. That's what you call your world, right? Earth."
"Speaking of Earth. Why does Elva know nothing of my world?"
"Simply like how not everyone in your world knows of my world. It's the same thing. Both our worlds are full of wonders."
"But how do you know of mine? Were you lying when you said you have been there?"
"Beats me!" He shrugged, displaying an irritating lopsided grin. "I can tell what is on that pretty little head of yours. And I am telling you, I won't tell you anything."
"You get really annoying!" She scoffs, glaring at him who withdrew his arms from the window stool. "Just get lost! You don't even have the information I need. You are just feeding me lies!"
"Go take your rest," he says. "We have a long day tomorrow. You don't want to stay with me for a month, right?"
Mizuko was about to turn away and go to bed when she remembers how they measure days and hours. So, she went back to face Kenshi again.
"What now?" He asked, his voice sounding annoyed.
She doesn't know why but she giggled and started asking him about their time. At first, he would not tell her but then after countless begging and arguing with him, Kenshi finally gave it up.
Their time and date, they measure it by certain magic but humans measure it like the way voyagers from the old times would. She asked if he could show her how exactly but he said she'll see what when they are outside of Pinress.
"What is it look like outside of Pinress?" she asked.
"Land. Empires. People who hold hands happily and it smells of joy," he tells her, releasing a soft chuckle. "Everything seems cheery there."
"You sound so sad," she mumbles. It seemed like Kenshi didn't hear her since he continues to look down. That's a relief.
"It's a sad place where I am born." The moment he said that her eyes widened. He did hear her after all. "We don't hold hands and we rarely smile."
“It could change, can't it?”
“Maybe. Maybe not.”
Before Kenshi left, he gave her some kind of autumn leaf with the size of her palm. He told her to bring it out everytime Roya speaks and it would help her understand the Kebano. It sounds insane but after all she has been teleported into the realm of magic.
“Let us try the leaf tomorrow. For now, I have to sleep and rest up so we have energy to travel again.”
When Roya replied with “Fuwa” she smiles and get back to her bed. She tucked herself in the blanket with Roya. Before closing her eyes, she glimpses at the empty ceiling. To her surprise, an image of Kenshi giving her a sweet smile appeared and she quickly frowns, muttering something before covering her head with the blanket.
The next morning, Kenshi wanders off with Keisuke, visiting an old friend who forges the best weapons in all Souzou. The old werewolf with an eye patch on his left when he turns into human.
“Yo! Tanda!” Kenshi greets with a big grin on his face. “Been long since I last seen that talent of yours.”
“Your highness,” the werewolf stopped hammering the steel and bowed to Kenshi. “What have brought you in the borderland?”
“Raise your head, Tanda. It hurts me everytime I see my subjects lower their heads for me in a boundary.”
“What nonsense do you speak of, your highness? The demonic rule that binds us—“
“Silence, oldie! I have not come to speak of such rule my father made. I have come for a magical bow.”
Tanda’s brows drawn together. “Why must you need a bow, your highness? You do not need such lowly weapon.”
“It is not for his highness,” Keisuke answers, rolling his eyes with a disgusted look on his face. “It is for a human girl he is helping at the moment.”
“A human girl, you say?”
And Keisuke nodded, bringing his lips together to one side in a disapproving manner. This made Kenshi release a sharp sudde breath.
“You two act like it’s something new.”
“It is quite surprising— a demon giving a special gift to a human. My, my, is she even allowed to use such bow, your highness?”
“I am not certain of it yet,” he replies, making it sound like he disregarded their worries. “She might be able to do it. I think I might be able to help her aswell.”
Both Tanda and Keisuke face palmed. They should have seen it coming. Their prince doesn’t listen to them in terms of a conversation about helping a human.
“I will ready the bow in three days time, your highness. How’d you like it designed?”
“Butterflies. Purple butterflies is what I seen her.”
“As you wish, sire.”
At somewhere down the pathway, Mizuko walks with a grumpy face. Just after eating breakfast, she told the elves that she will go find Kenshi so they go on with their travel. Unfortunately, she got lost and now she’s just foollowing a pathway to nowhere.
“I should have just waited for him to get me,” she mutters, sighing heavily. It was a good thing that Roya isn’t asleep yet.
“I’m sorry we have to get lost like this,” Mizuko tells Roya in an apologetic tone.
“Fuwa Fuwa!”
That is when she remembers the autum leaf Kenshi had given him last night. She took her out from her pocket and when Roya saya ‘fuwa fuwa’ words would appear in the leaf.
Roya was asking her for forgiveness since she is not as useful as Zed. “Wait who’s Zed— ah the black Kebano.”
As they continue to walk, Roya told her that she has been away from duty and all she has been doing so far is guard her in Chikyuo. It is understandable how Roya is no more familiar with this place.
“I must be like my mother. Someone must have come for my mother as well. She could be here,” she murmurs the last sentence she spoke.
“Fuwa fuwa!”
Suspicious enough, what Roya said next didn’t appear on the leaf which made her brows knitted together. What the hell? Is there something wrong ith the leaf.
“The leaf didn’t get what you said. It did not translate what you said.”
“Fuwa Fuwa!”
“That too!” she yells, mouth open as she stares at the leaf. “Does this need battery too? Does magic needs charging? It isn’t working anymore!”
What Mizuko didn’t know was that Kenshi is right behind her, plastering a lopsided grin.
“You sound funny,” he utters that startled Mizuko. She looks at him with a frown. “Yo!” he greeted.
“Whe-Where were you?” she asked, her eyes largly staring at him.
“Visiting an old friend of mine. I had a favor to ask him,” he honestly replied. “Why do you look so relieved to see me?”
Before answering, she looked everywhere keeping air in her mouth. “Well the leaf you gave me had stop working so suddenly!”
“Really?” His grin just got wider. “I could have thought you were worried that I was not around.”
“Tch!” She scoffs, throwing him a dirty stare. “I was worried about me not understanding Roya! I could have been on my own if only I could understand her!”
“You could tho. That Kebano is yours so there is no reason you can’t understand her.”
“I told you I tried my best!” she shouts at him. “Maybe I just don’t have the ability to understand her. Maybe my mom was what the mage was looking for and not me...”
“Your mother? Can you describe her?”
“Fuwa Fuwa!” Roya suddenly got energetic.
Mizuko looks at her leaf and suddenly she saw words there. Roya was telling her to tell Kenshi about her mother. She blinks for couple of time, looking at Roya and back to the leaf. Then she slowly gazes at Kenshi.
He looked like he is very interested about her mother. There was something telling her not to trust the what the leaf had translated since Roya kept saying Fuwa. Then again, Roya could just be excited. What danger will telling Kenshi about her mother do?
At one of the nearby towns in Hikari, Yushiro is having lunch with his companion, Blue. He won't be able to act all mighty in front of his father— the king— after losing that demon again!"Your highness!" Blue calls, snapping him back to his senses, looking at her. "You have not touch much of your food. Are you still upset?""I apologize." He clears his throat and took his spoon. "That demon will come back in a few days to steal and do harm again. We should keep our guards up.""Aye, your highness. If only I had keen eyes to aim perfectly at that demon.""You did your best. I was at fault when I let the beast bewildered me.""I have never seen that beast before. What was it called, your highness?" Blue asked, leaning forward in curiosity."It is the legendary Sabertooth. They said those kind of beas
While Kenshi was gone, Mizuko heard loud cries from someone and so she decided to find out who it was coming from. To her surprise, it was from a child all alone on the pathway.Mizuki could not leave the little one alone so she approached the child. She was looking everywhere to see if someone was coming."Hey, there!" She awkwardly raise her hand, smiling nervously. The kid stopped crying and pouted at her, sniffling. "Wh-why are you here all alone? Where's your uhm nanny?""Who are you?" the little girl asked, wiping her tears with back of her hand. "A-are you a demon disguised as a human?""No! But what are you doing here all alone? Do you know where this is?" When the little girl shook her head side to side, Mizuko sighed. "What's your name? I'll try
Kenshi frowns but the corners of his mouth were curved up. "You do not even know where I am headed.""But I know I won't stay in bed to sleep anymore. I've had my rest. I promise, I will keep up with you!"It took a while of just staring at each other until Kenshi nods his head that made her smile. She immediately hopped over the window. And outside, she rubs both her arms because it was darn cold."How is it not cold inside but it's so cold out?" She asked, her lips trembling. "It's so cold!"Out of nowhere, Kenshi moved closer to her. He took off a layer of clothing he has and put it around her. As he did that, her wide eyes pierced at his face. And when he step back, she met his eyes."That is not a lot of help but it should warm you enough.""Y-yeah. It is beginning to warm," she softly said,
Nozumo exited the castle in secrecy, his cloak worn all the way to his head. It is time he goes to a sorcerer who can tell him what happened to his loyal mage, Kira.It has been an exhausting week, always attending to the needs of an incompetent fake King. The king in throne is not as powerful as the rightful king but he is deceiving enough to be the first to stain the throne. On the busy street of the city, the mage disguised as the king's eunuch walks his way inside a narrow alley. With a token from the sorcerer, he is transported inside a shop, the one he used to visit with his young master."It has been quite the time, Nozumo."He looks ahead and saw the woman who once deceived him into giving a precious crystal."Where is your mas
When Mizuko woke up from a nap, she abruptly sits up, looking around for Kenshi. She sits up and rubs her eyes. It looks like he had tricked her into taking a nap but then again she said she would guard him."Good. You're finally awake!"Mizuko turned around and saw a beautiful woman with raven hair. She has beautiful purple eyes, long lashes and perfect full lips. The only thing that bothered Mizuko was how revealing the woman's outfit was."D-do I know you?" Mizuko asked, her brows slightly drawn together."Didn't my— the young Kenshi told you about an escort?""You are the witch? But I thought—"
Mizuko spent the day helping out with Miranda at the shop. While she helps, her thoughts wandered off to Kenshi. The day ended without her seeing him and it is kind of new.Earlier, when Miranda brought her to the town, the witch told her their town is found in the middle of Hikari. It is said to be the heart of the Kingdom. Miranda also told her not to be deceived for some demons disguised themselves as human around here. But not every demon's transformation is stable and so some transform in crowds most often."There must be good demons out there, right? There should be...""I am demon myself," Roya tells her. "Am I good, my lady?""Oh yes, you are!" She said and then stretches her arms as she yawns. "I didn't know witches could be that busy. Miss Miranda isn't as bad after all.""Are you sleepy, my lady?"&n
After they eat, Kenshi showed her around the town. Like he was the first time he successfully sneaked in the land of Hikari, Mizuko kept jumping and her smiles were almost as bright as the sun.It could be that she is not listening to him and she just keeps nodding when he tells her about path ways and short cuts. Well it isn't a problem, he can just buy her a map and show her the way."Is there a historical library here? I wonder what kind of books you guys have!""Do you like reading books?""Sometimes," she beams. "I mostly read science fiction and adventure books! Now look at this! I feel like I am dreaming!""Aren't women most interested in romance? Knight saves a damsel in distress? A forbidden love? Star crossed lo
Yushiro finally made it back inside the castle. In the throne room, he bends one knee, lowered his head down in front of the king who is sitting on the throne."Father, my guard had failed me in executing the crown prince of Yami." It hurts his ego to say it but he has to admit to his defeat. "I deserve to be punished for my carelessness.""I do not expect anything from you, my son. But I acknowledge how you work hard just to lose," says the King.Yushiro secretly glares at his father's remarks. Before raising his head, he dismissed the scorn on his face and pretends to be sorry."Forgive me, father." He has gone tired of this act but it is the only door for him to sit on that throne. It is not to be called king that he wishes for but for an army and authority.
Back in the world of Souzou, three months after the battle, the liveliness of the Kingdom came back. The children would run freely. Demons and humans are free to cross borders now. They have come to understand that each is alike each other. That the Demonic rule will be honored and respected by the humans as their thanks for helping them free their kingdom from the devils.Today, they celebrate the crowning of the new king and everyone is present. Demon and humans came, the King and Queen together with the crown princess had also attended. Well, some human were still scared of the king and Queen as they appear too powerful but as soon as they saw the smiles they felt relieved. The ceremony was perfect, the crowds cheer and when they saw their new King, the roarin
Their enemies were captured as they surrender and Kozuko announced their win against the devil. It was time to take their Kingdom back.Hannock decided to disappear out of their sight. After all, all of his magic were taken by Kenshi and all he can do now is live a life in the shadows. It was like Hanabi had spoken to him once more while his feet were reached by the golden water. For the first time in a while he felt warm and he felt the embrace of his sister. He longed to feel it again and Kenshi made him feel it again. Now Hannock finally accepts the fact that only someone who didn't need the crystals could control it. Someone like Kenshi is most suitable for those crystals. As Hannock roams Pinress,
The moment finally came when all of the warriors needed to say their good byes to their loved ones and their homes. Those who go to war either comes back or stays in the battlefield. As everyone marches to cross the border and enter the borderland Pinress, Mizuko glances side by side. She has been into war a couple of times already. This shouldn't make her feel overwhelmed but it does. The fact that, her family and friends was there, that she could lose them terrifies her.The stressing part is, she can't get a hold of Kenshi. He is supposed to be with them in this war but he is nowhere to be found. Though she is secured by any harm here, she isn't safe from the promise she made with Pixie. Hannock could target only Kenshi but she is relieved that Kenshi wasn't here."I hope h
In the middle of training, Blue had excused herself when Keisuke showed up at their training site. They've really not talk so much about them these days."I know this is a bit sudden but, I would like to ask for your time tonight."Keisuke couldn't look straight in Blue's eyes. He has not really asked a girl before so naturally he is not so confident to ask."I-I can't," Blue replied that actually made Keisuke abruptly look at her."Why? Are you doing something later? Training?""No, it's just... my brother. We agreed to have dinner together later. You see, we are going to war tomorrow and I might not be able to spend time with him anymore so we decided to have that dinner."Now he understands why. He should have asked her yesterday but
For her third and fourth day, Mizuko spent it all with Kenshi. They went swimming on the river, the other one camping. They stargazed and wish on shooting stars. In all those days, Mizuko wished she could do those again with Kenshi. She wished she wasn’t blinded by revenge then.“Mermaids here are very terrible. They drown people they do not like,” Mizuko told Kenshi. One time when she decided to come along with her father’s mission, they needed to cross the sea. She heard a beautiful melody and she didn’t notice she was under a spell until her brother covered her ears.“They are not all bad. They are actually fond of things in the land,” Kenshi retorts.“You a
I am in love with you. Those words are spiraling inside of Mizuko's head. They don't seem to disappear no matter what she does, his voice was everywhere.Kenshi looked too serious to even take it back and he didn't take it back. It made everything worse for Mizuko. That when they came back to Souzou, she ran away from him. It was like a dejavu from when one of them confessed and she ran away. She herself barely even remember that embarrassing moment."Ugh! Why did I have to run away from him again? It's embarrassing!" She groans, her hands on her face and pulling them down."Love problems?" Kozuko who was wiping his blade asked her. She then nodded. "So he finally admitted to you his feelings. Good thing. I don't see why you have to groan like that.""I ra
After the announcement, Mizuko decided to stay away from the crowd and went her way to the training section. But then Pixie had followed and called her which she turn around to."Your highness," she calls and lowered her head for some moment and raised it."I saw the way my brother looked at you," Pixie said. It made her gulped. "You must remember our promise.""I am very well aware, your highness.""Good. Stay away from my brother as it is good for the both of you." Before Pixie leaves, he wanted to remind Mizuko of their promise. "You are not to tell brother about you and him. Nor is anybody allowed to tell him. If he knows, it's your life's cost.""What?" Mizuko was surprised to hear the rest of it. Did she mishear it or she really just forgot? "But I only promised not to tell you
A week. How can she decide in a week? How will she make a week count? Will she really be able to tell him? But how can she betray him too?Mizuko released a heavy sigh, her head down. She has all the ingredients now but she feels like it has no use anymore. There's no way she'd let Kenshi hear the truth from someone else but her. It's better to do it herself than let Hannock have Kenshi."Ah! I'm doomed!" Mizuko shouts in despair, grabbing her hair. "What do I do?""Are you alright, Mizuko?" Blue who is done hitting all her target came to sit with her under the shade. "I thought you had gotten all the ingredients?""I have but like I said, my uncle has threatened me to telling Kenshi. I have a week.""Let him do it than betray Kenshi or die.""It would be better
Mariposas is like another world really bright, Mizuko's dream place when she was so much younger. It was a pixie place but much bigger and so much magical. It was breathtaking there until the mariposas saw Kenshi. One flew in an unprecedented speed towards Kenshi then another and then another and almost all of them that she wasn't even entertained.Mizuko was being pushed over to the side. She can't even see Kenshi anymore with all those mariposas surrounding him. Now this is what she hated the most. Now she is wishing she had just did a little briefing with Kenshi. She is a damn extra in this world of beautiful people with gorgeous butterfly wings. Her eyes drooped in boredom as she sits down on a rock frustratingly watching Kenshi with all those females.
