His thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door. He looked down at Kat as she flinched at the sound and sat up, looking bleary eyed and a little startled. Ruben had been contemplatively stroking her hair lost in his own thoughts.
“Did you fall asleep?” He asked amused as he was captivated by her sleepy dazed expression as her large eyes blinked up at him endearingly.
“I think I dozed off, yeah, it is late.” Kat answered apologetically.
“Not for vampires…” He chuckled and called out. “Enter.”
The door opened to reveal the same vampire in the suit, he hesitated and choked on his words at the sight of the young blond woman sitting straddling the Lord’s lap. Ruben smiled at the reaction, it was certainly going to create a stir having her here. Kat moved her leg over to the side and sat sideways on Ruben’s lap so she could see the room better. She saw the same man that had entered earlier and wondered if he was some sort of assistant.
The man got control of himself and finally found his voice. “Your guests have arrived, my Lord.”
“Excellent, thank you Aiden. I will be out shortly.”
The man bowed his head and left.
Kat looked at Ruben with a little sardonic smile. Ruben glanced down at her and met those amazing dark green eyes again, he could stare at them all night. “I’m going to have to get up, aren’t I?”
Ruben smiled and gave a little laugh. “I’m afraid so, I would love for you to join me though?” He really had no intention of letting her out of his sight.
“Join you in what?” Kat said as she stood up, then leaned back on the edge of his desk looking down at Ruben in the chair. It was a very appealing sight to behold as he didn’t move except to open his legs for her to stand between them. His svelte waist and wide shoulders made her wonder what he looked like under that all covering three piece suit.
“My meeting with my guests.”
“And what sort of guests are these? Let me guess…” Kat smiled slightly as she folded her arms looking Ruben up and down, her mouth twisted sardonically. Ruben just sat calmly watching her, smiling amused at the face she was pulling. “Other crime bosses?”
“Other Vampire Lords…actually, I do conduct some legitimate business too you know...” Ruben corrected as he chuckled. He stood up and looked down on her and bopped her gently on the nose with his index finger, then dipped it up and under her chin. She hadn’t really realised how tall he was until this moment as he towered over her with no breathing space between them, she had to tip her head back to look at him as his finger guided her head up. Her heart pattered at his closeness and the dominant aura he possessed in the position. “Are you too tired to join me?” He seemed somewhat disappointed but challenging at the same time as that perfect arched eyebrow rose again in question as he looked down his perfect nose at her.
“I suppose not, but what’s the dress code? You pureblood vamps are always so goddamn glamorous and expensive.”
“Oh, don’t worry about that…I can fix what you are wearing for tonight with a glamour spell…just say you’ll come…please.” He trailed his fingers up from her chin, along her jawline and then seductively tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. His ice blue eyes sparkling with a daring sexiness that Kat found absolutely irresistible. Just like every other female that looks into those eyes no doubt…
“You’re lucky Scott is a night owl too and I’m used to being up this late…” She replied to his unspoken challenge. “So yes, I would love to accompany you, if it’s okay?” Kat smiled at Ruben’s ecstatic look as the grin spread across his face at every word she said.
“Wonderful!” He grabbed her hands and pulled her over to a clear space next to his desk and as his eyes glowed with power he twirled her round in a circle and placed a finger over her head. She was encompassed in an ethereal golden light as her black jeans, t-shirt and jacket turned into a long evening gown of a deep emerald green to match her eyes with a deep cowl from the shoulders front and back that dipped below her cleavage slightly and all the way to her lower back at the back, the fine silk material draped seductively over her hips and clung teasingly to her shapely bottom.
“Leave the boots!” Kat said then as she looked down at herself seeing her clothes changing with Ruben’s magic.
“Okay…why?” Ruben raised one eyebrow and pouted slightly.
“Because I don’t want to lose them, you’re not going to change things back again are you?”
Ruben laughed. “Fair enough.” Ruben stepped back and looked her up and down with a dark appreciative smoulder, taking in every inch of her lithe slender body, making her blush. “The boots are a risqué touch, but I like it…makes you look a bit dangerous.” He said admiring the view, he had glamorised her hair and make-up and she looked absolutely stunning.
“I am dangerous.” Kat muttered, looking down at the dress, feeling a little exposed.
He grabbed her chin, making her lift up on her toes as he brought her mouth to his, not bending down but domineeringly making her come to him and kissed her. “I’m finding it harder and harder to resist you, sweet girl.” He breathed in a husky voice.
Kat smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes which held a solemn cast to them. “It’s nice that you go to the trouble too.”
“Oh, baby…” Ruben chuckled and let her go. “I want to be friends first and foremost and that, I know, will take time.”
“You are a strange individual.” Kat half smiled and blinked slowly.
“Perhaps.” Ruben said nonchalantly. “Let’s go stun everyone with your beauty.”
“Not just with the fact that I’m with you?” Kat rebuked with a chuckle.
Ruben laughed. “And that.”
.
As they walked through to the main living area which seemed to be the congregation place, all the vampires there again froze midway through their conversations and stared for a long moment, before they all bowed their heads in respect to their Lord passing by and fell into gossiping once again. Kat frowned uncomfortable with the attention but Ruben smiled, holding his chin high and led Kat over to his guests who were standing together at the edge of the where the marble foyer met the lush living area, staring open mouthed at Ruben’s stunning companion.
There were two of them, both male and were typical high class, pure blood vampires – meaning gorgeous. Dressed in high end suits and looking, to Kat, like stereotypical mafia type business men. They both looked about the same age as Ruben. One was blond with blue eyes a few shades darker than Ruben’s and was pretty rather than handsome. The other had brown hair cut short in a modern fade and long on top swished back and gelled in place, his face was chiselled and angular and extremely handsome but hard and cold making him look like a supervillain, especially given those amazing clear golden amber eyes that seemed to bore into your soul.
“Lord Luisetti, who is this divine creature and how have you managed to keep her secret?” The blond haired vampire said as he stepped over and took her hand, kissing it flamboyantly like it was still the 1800’s.
Ruben smiled. “This is Katarina.” He said as the other vampire took her hand in his gloved one and brushed his lips just above her skin not touching her, but she felt the faint breeze of his passing breath. He looked up at her with those amazing pale amber eyes and grinned a very seductive look at her.
“It is an absolute pleasure to meet you, Katarina.” The way he said her name gave her goose bumps. She heard Ruben growl deep in his throat in warning. The vampire looked up shocked and glanced at Ruben as he dropped Kat’s hand. “Ruben?”
Ruben smiled again, but his eyes stayed fixed on the other vampire like a challenge and warning all in one. Kat looked between them curious as the blond vampire laughed with delight.
“Oh dear…this is too precious…Ruben Luisetti claiming a woman…wonders will never cease.” His tone was very obviously condescending but playful.
I’m sorry, what!? Kat looked at Ruben with a startled expression.
“Enough!” Ruben growled at him, but glanced at Kat, she noticed his eyes were glowing. She bit her lip to prevent the words that were wanting to come out of her mouth about that comment, she’ll store it for later. She could see decorum was needed here.
She smiled and looked at the blond vampire. “How do you know I didn’t claim him first?” She said ever so sweetly but when she smiled she showed them her fangs of her true form, unlike vampires long canine teeth, hers were all fangs, sharp and pointed with extra-long canines top and bottom that fitted into special ducts in her gums. The blond vampire stepped back shocked, as the other vampire regarded her with great interest and chuckled.
“Oh, this one has teeth…in more ways than the obvious.” He looked at Ruben who was regarding Kat amused. Ruben looked at him and draped his arm around Kat’s shoulders, possessively.
“Indeed she has Mikhail, so take care.” Ruben warned with his usual smile.
“Kat, meet Mikhail and Vladimir.”
“Nice to meet you both.” Kat said smiling normally, her fangs gone. Mikhail frowned at the change, whereas Vladimir smiled wider almost relieved.
“And you my dear.” Vladimir said. “It’s so nice to finally see our Lord Luisetti with someone on his arm and such a beauty. It has been a very long time.”
“Yes, you really did sneak this one up on us, didn’t you?” Mikhail said still looking at Kat with a smouldering look. “But you’re clearly not a vampire, little lady?” He took a long inhale of the air. “It’s hard to say what you are…” He seemed to shiver slightly as her scent filled his nostrils.
“No, I’m not.” Kat said simply, standing her ground and refusing to tell him, there was something off about this guy, he appeared very confrontational in a passive aggressive, manipulative way.
Ruben stepped around them, with Kat tucked under his arm. “Follow me, gentlemen and all will be revealed.”

As Ruben led them into another room Kat saw it was like a board room. It was situated next to his office and she wondered if this wing of the house was reserved for business activities. She sat down in a chair pulled out by Ruben, which he had made the point of pulling round the table to sit next to his chair which sat at the head of the large wooden table. Both the other vampires looked at each other perplexed and amazed. This really was completely out of character for Ruben. He was acting like a possessive fool.Ruben waited a moment as the others settled, leaning back he reached out and again put a hand on Kat’s thigh. She looked at him with a wary glance knowing he was controlling whether she could use her power or not. She wondered if perhaps he didn’t trust her to behave with decorum, she had to admit if it was her, she wouldn’t trust herself…“That’s becoming quite the habit.” She muttered under her breath.“Do you wish for me to remove my hand?” Ruben’s eyes locked on to hers
“Do these vampires just mooch around here all night?” “Mooch?” Ruben laughed. “Actually yes…annoying isn’t it.” “Why don’t you just get rid of them?” “I wish I could, baby girl…but alas I am stuck with them here.” Being their Lord and master. “Vampire society?” “Quite.” He grinned. “You’re going to have to fill me in on that…” “And I will when the time is right…for now, what do you want to drink?” He clicked his fingers and a vampire in a black waiter’s suit appeared. “How about a gin, with lime and soda.” Kat asked. “And my usual…” Ruben said to the vampire butler who bowed his head and left. “Lord Luisetti, please give us a moment with your beautiful companion.” Another vampire approached. He was slightly older looking and had a female vampire on his arm. Kat assumed they were a couple. “Katarina was it?” “Just call me Kat.” “Oh how quaint.” The female said. Kat frowned, she felt like she had just been insulted somehow. Ruben put his arm around her waist and pulled her i
In the room she stripped off the dress and her boots as Ruben chucked her one of his t-shirts, since she had been bra-less in a dress that revealing. He clenched his jaw watching her change in front of him with no reservations or self-consciousness. His eyes feasting on her flesh, the perfect roundness and curve of her breasts, waist and buttocks.“Baby girl, for fuck’s sake.” Ruben scrunched his eyes shut for a moment and shook his head, trying to stop himself from jumping on her, he had to adjust himself and calm down.Kat smiled at him, blatantly aware of his reaction and crawled into his bed and watched as he got undressed and got into the bed next to her in nothing but his boxers that were quite obviously strained tight over his rather well sized package. Kat smirked to herself as her eyes flitted across it.“You talk about me?” Kat said amused. As he sat up with his back leaning on the headboard, Kat moved to lie on her side.
Ruben woke the next morning to find a gorgeous blond woman in his bed, his arms wrapped around her and her naked body pressed up against his. He smiled to himself and delicately worked his arm free from underneath her and propped up on his elbow. He looked down at her sleeping face and carefully brushed a couple of stray strands of hair away. What have you done to me, demon? He muttered to himself as he stared at her. He knew exactly what she had done and he knew it the moment he had first seen her in a bar a week ago. He was in love with her. It was extremely rare for vampires to find soul mates, even rarer for that soul mate to not be a vampire, but then he wasn’t full vampire either, so who knew how these things worked. All he knew was that he was inexplicably drawn to her, like a moth to a flame. He leant down and gently kissed her lips, slowly and lingering for just a moment until her eyes flickered open. He leaned back on his elbow and smiled at her. “Good morning, gorgeous gi
“We don’t really match.” Kat said looking in the mirror in the bathroom at her new clothes as she combed her hair through with Ruben’s comb.Ruben came up behind her and put his hands on her shoulders as his thumbs brushed the back of her neck, easily looking over her head into the mirror at their reflection. “You think we should match? That’s too cute…” Ruben chuckled sexily.“Not matchy-match!” Kat growled. “But an expensive three piece suit doesn’t really go with leather pants and jacket, now does it, no matter how expensive and designer this outfit looks?”“You think we should have a more cohesive look?” Ruben looked a little stunned. “A united front?”Kat looked away from the mirror and folded her arms, huffing. “Something like that.”Ruben let go of Kat’s shoulders and closed his eyes for a moment. As he opened them Kat saw
They discussed business for the next hour as Kat curled up and fell asleep listening to music. Ruben, the others noticed, kept his arm over her quite protectively as she had turned inwards to face the couch her face nestled into his hip. His arm he had lowered to rest lightly in the curve of her waist, his hand on her back. Vlad took his phone out and took a photo. Ruben looked at him with an eyebrow raised.“Too cute.” Vlad shrugged. “So…she’s definitely the one?”Ruben smiled that ever present smirk. “Yes, I believe so.”“God damn.” Mikhail grumbled. “I really didn’t think Lord Ruben Luisetti would ever be the first one of us to fall.”Ruben laughed. “No, I always thought it would be Vlad…”“Me?” Vlad looked startled for a moment. “Hardly, how can I find a mate, I don’t even swing that way…”“Exactly
When he got there Kat was standing outside in the sun looking back at the front entrance while Vlad was standing just inside with the door only slightly ajar, squinting out at her. His car was in the driveway behind Kat. She turned and opened the back door of the car then turned back and leaned on the side of the car and closed her eyes, tucking her chin, lowering her head. The shadows up under the eaves of the front of the house slowly crept out further and further into the drive way like a black flood they seemed to consume everything in their path until they reached Kat’s feet. The shadows suddenly coalesced becoming like thick syrup and formed walls and a roof creating a tunnel of blackness from the front door to the car door.Kat opened her eyes which were glowing with an intense green light and grinned. Folding her arms smugly and crossing her feet.“I think that’s your cue, Vlad.” Ruben said, barely able to hide the a
Once it was dusk Vladimir arrived back. He swooped Kat into his arms in an extravagant embrace.“Hello gorgeous, how have you been?”“Asleep mostly…”Ruben chuckled as he stood behind her. It wasn’t entirely true, they had slept a few hours of the afternoon after he had finished his paperwork and they had enjoyed each others bodies again.“Come this way, Vlad…” Ruben said as Kat watched them step away, Ruben turned, curious, raising an eyebrow at her when she didn’t look like she was going to follow.“I’m hungry.” Kat said simply, with a deadpan
Kat felt faint and sleepy all of a sudden, collapsing to her knees before slumping to the ground, closing her eyes on the sight of Ruben and Michael within the golden column of light. She called out his name softly before falling into a deep sleep as she was enveloped within the same golden light, appearing to grow transparent before she vanished from the Demon King’s throne room completely just as the golden column of light, Ruben and Michael also vanished. . When she awoke she found herself lying in a meadow on the side of a mountain capped with snow. She sat up and looked around to discover she was surrounded by these amazing snow-capped mountains. In the distance sat a great castle overlooking the valleys below with a river ambling between. Kat saw Ruben standing not too far away on the edge of a small precipice, looking out at the view, his hands casually in his pockets and his hair blowing in the gentle breeze that also blew the long grass around her. Kat stood up and walked
It was a half hour wait filled with the Demon King going about his business completely ignoring Ruben and Kat as they were ushered to the side and given seats, something to drink and eat and treated by the courtiers like honoured guests.“Ruben, what are you going to do if they do return you to the human realm?” Kat asked under her breath, hardly wanting to be caught speaking. He frowned as he looked at her. “What do you mean?”“Well, you are the proper King…won’t they want you to return to being their King if you return?”Ruben scratched his cheek and shrugged. “I suppose they will…but I don’t want it and I know you don’t want to return to that place…so I guess I’ll have to abdicate…”“Won’t that put the General’s position in jeopardy?”Ruben’s eyebrow raised as he heard her concern for the General. “Perhaps…he currently has the palace under Marshall Law…but what is it you are trying to say? You don’t want to go back to the Terran Realm?”Kat shook her head. “I would just rather be a
“However…I know the story behind Basille’s apparent desperation to flaunt the rules and decide to try and recreate a being he should have never fallen for…” The Demon King stated with a little patient smile. “Shall I tell it to you?”“Yes, please…” Kat whispered, her voice not wanting to come out of her.The Demon King grinned and lunged forward, scooping an arm around Kat’s waist and dragging her round and up onto his lap. He placed a hand on top of her head sending a calming sleepy spell over her, making her compliant and still as she dropped back against his chest and looked up at him with a dreamy smile as he patted her and rubbed her ears like a pet.Ruben lurched to his feet, his fists clenched and surrounded by a blue flame. “Let her go!”The Demon King flicked his fingers, not even looking away from Kat’s dreamy expression and Ruben was sent flying back through the hall and crashing into one of the gigantic marble pillars, dropping like a stone to the floor. He coughed blood,
The Demon King was huge and sat upon an impressively massive throne that covered the entire back wall from floor to ceiling like organ pipes in a cathedral. Ruben’s eyes narrowed as he took in the mighty beast languishing on his throne. He was clearly about twelve feet tall, long black hair fell down to his shoulders as two foot long curled black horns stuck through it on either side of his forehead. He was chiselled and cruel looking, his eyes were literally flaming, swirling with red, orange and yellow, the pupils slits, where the sclera were usually white his were black and bottomless. He was dressed in a black house coat embroidered with gold thread depicting dragons, his bare chest and astonishing abdominal muscles were displayed with arrogant pride. His black leather pants tight to his thick thighs. At his feet were two demon girls, fawning over him. They were beautiful and both had long forked tails and tiny horns. They both turned and hissed at Ruben’s approach showing their
As Ruben stepped into the private rooms at the top of a massive tower that were once occupied by Basille he looked around with distaste before looking up and gasping. “Holy shit, this is not what I expected…” The entire ceiling was see-through to the sky like a massive atrium. It was dark outside and they could see a million stars twinkling down on them. Kat hugged her arms around herself as she looked around the room with a small pout. “Even though this room was Basille’s it was my most favourite room in the whole castle.” She looked up at the sky with a whimsical smile. Folding his arms and setting his feet only a foot over the threshold Ruben frowned darkly. “As lovely as that is…why do you think I would want to stay here?” Kat turned back to regard him, her lips pursed. “Where else? This really is the best rooms in the whole dreary castle.” Ruben scowled at the rudimentary furniture and the large wooden four poster bed with a mattress that looked like it was stuffed with a mi
After tidying themselves up they walked out of the catacombs and back up into the palace. Kat startled to see a small group of vampires waiting for them, amongst them was King Adicus Luisette, now wearing his crisp uniform jacket but instead of his peaked hat he wore the simple gold crown and looking very dashing. He smiled at them as everyone else applauded politely. Kat turned her head in embarrassment to see Ruben laughing with delight. He stepped forward and started shaking hands with the people waiting as they gave him their congratulations. Kat stayed where she was not sure if she should follow him or not. A voice behind her made her spin around with shock as Ruben did the same, grinning from ear to ear. “How about a hello to your favourite childhood friend?” Vladimir was standing there in all his flouncy glory, a young noble looking man standing behind him, both dressed up to the nines with frilly shirts and outrageous velvet suits. “Vladimir!” Ruben shouted with amazement.
Kat was enduring the preparations of her eternal bonding with Ruben. He had left her in the charge of the two fae women from Luisette’s harem, where she had been instructed to soak in a bath full of goat’s milk in which a drop of Ruben’s blood had been added, then showered clean, her hair and makeup done.Kat was dressed in a stunning gown of black, with a corseted waist and long straight skirt. Her wealth of golden blond hair shined like real gold in the flickering candle light from the hundreds of candles that lined the crypt like room as she was led by Von Dulce down into the catacombs under the palace. She looked around the circular room, with many tunnels leading off, with a little apprehension knowing down here was where many vampire rested in long sleep. Now, including King Luisette. She turned as she heard movement and saw Ruben and Batton walk out of one such tunnel, their faces grim after having just laid King Luisette to rest.Ruben, was wearing a matching black suit, the v
They made quick work of rounding up the Lords they needed, as soon as they opened the doors to the rooms and the vampires saw the great demon as the shadows crept in behind them they quickly made their way down the halls with no great objections, their expressions grim and wary as they were herded towards their destination of the Throne room. As they all stepped in they gasped as they saw Ruben sitting upon the Throne looking very regal with the King’s robes around his shoulders and the inert body of King Alessandro Luisette lying upon the couch to one side. Ruben watched them with an eagle like stare as they were herded in and grouped together, surrounded by soldiers. General Batton stepped up the dais steps and took position to Ruben’s left as the demon cat jumped up and stood on Ruben’s right. Ruben reached out a hand and placed it on Kat’s head as she smooched it affectionately. Lord Echron stepped forward, his face livid. “What’s the meaning of all this! If you wanted the thro
As Ruben walked into the throne room he looked around and surprisingly saw Von Dulce sitting behind his desk, frantically scribbling something down on a piece of paper. Ruben and Batton looked at each other before Ruben coughed for Von Dulce’s attention. He looked up and paled to see both General Batton and Prince Ruben standing together. “You…” He stuttered. “You’re in on this together?” He gaped at them with fear of the unknown. Ruben gave him a reassuring smile. “Relax, we aren’t going to throw you out of office…” “You’re not?” Von Dulce gulped, a little relieved. “No…in fact we need you to help make this transition go smoothly…” Ruben looked down at the desk with a curious frown. “What are you writing?” Von Dulce gave a nervous laugh and rubbed the back of his neck. “Instructions…for whomever took over the administration of the palace…” Ruben raised an eyebrow at him. “Wait, you thought you were going to be executed or something and so diligently wrote down instructions for y
