Twenty years later...
"I can't believe you still haven't heard about him, Amelia. I mean, literally everyone in the pack knows the story of our crazy Alpha," Isabel reprimanded her best friend, Amelia, who always seemed oblivious of everything happening around her.
"It's not like I haven't heard about him, it's just that I never cared to know more about him and besides, you know how much I hate gossiping and believing in crazy rumours," Amelia defended herself quickly, not liking the fact that her friend just indirectly called her nonchalant.
"You know the saying, behind every rumour, there is always an iota of truth? Well, I believe in these particular rumours. Everyone can't be lying and making up similar and well detailed stories you know," Isabel fired back and Amelia rolled her eyes.
"Okay fine, you have a point but isn't it just weird that our Alpha is always called a crazy man? Doesn't it make you feel some type of way? For me, it's almost like I'm being disrespectful towards his authority by calling him a mad man when I have never even met the man or seen him act crazy like they say he does," Amelia replied and Isabel sighed at her friend's foolishness.
"You better not pray to meet the man because according to even more rumours, they say that if ten people meet him, only three will walk back home alive and when I say alive, I mean, barely. I for one don't think these are just rumours anyways because think about it, he doesn't come for pack gatherings and festivals, Beta Adrian is always having to represent him. He never shows up to check on the people when there's an attack from neighbouring packs or rogues and he even sometimes goes ahead to attack all on his own without warriors, isn't that weird?" Isabel said and Amelia frowned.
"Plausible explanations to that could be that maybe he's not a people's person, or he just doesn't want to check up on people so he'd rather have his Beta do it for him and about him fighting against our enemies on his own, shouldn't we be appreciating the fact that he's strong enough to fight for us? Since when did having a powerful man for an Alpha become a problem?" Amelia questioned and Isabel was slowly starting to get frustrated with her friend.
"You really are as dense as they say you are Amelia. Didn't you get my point? He's a monster Amelia and this is according to his warriors and the survivors who have met with him. They say the reason he leaves his warriors behind is because once he becomes angry and ready for battle, he no longer recognises his people. He becomes a total monster and he kills every werewolf that crosses his path, even his very own warriors so he forbids his people from coming anywhere close to him when he's about to fight and the only time they fight for us is when he doesn't join them," Isabel explained, hoping her clearer explanation would help her friend understand her better.
"Honestly, it all just sounds like rumours to me. It's like people can't accept that he's just not typical so they're making up ridiculous rumours about him to justify their reasons for disliking him," Amelia replied and Isabel could not not believe her eyes.
"You need to learn to be more open to rumours, Amelia sweetie," the familiar voice of Isabel's mother spoke from behind where the girls sat and they both turned around with confused looks on their faces.
"Hi mom," Isabel greeted her mother who responded to her greeting with a curt nod.
"Hello miss Ana, do you also believe in these rumours?" Amelia asked, wondering if she was the only one sensible enough not to buy into baseless rumours.
"Hmm, it's not that I believe them completely but I know a few of them that have been confirmed to be true and I've also happened to see the Alpha in person," Ana replied.
"You have? How come you never told me?" Isabel questioned.
"I would have if you'd asked me about it but you never did. It's not even that big a deal cause I only saw him from a distance and of course, he didn't kill anyone in front of me or anything but it was quite obvious that everyone around was pretty scared of him. They all stood pretty far away from him and even his Beta couldn't go too close. I was only a spectator from a distance but even I felt creeped out by his presence. His aura isn't just commanding, it's also pretty scary," Ana explained and now Amelia was even more curious to hear more.
"Well, I knew people weren't lying. The man's a monster," Isabel blurted proudly and Amelia rolled her eyes.
"I wouldn't call him a monster though cause I didn't see him acting like one but I've heard he could be quite dangerous to be around. I've heard a few stories about him killing people for the most basic offences because he can't control his anger. He becomes a totally different person when he's upset by even the littlest things and he goes on a killing spree like a mad man," Ana said and although Amelia did not believe Isabel who she felt was simply exaggerating, she couldn't help but believe Ana.
After all, she has known Ana for almost all her life and her best friend's mother wasn't exactly the type to make up false stories and lie unreasonably.
"Mom, is it true that he's cursed? I heard from an elderly woman that the Alpha appears to be cursed cause he was given birth to on the day of the blood moon festival and apparently children are rarely born on such a day and it is said that, any child who is given birth to during the festival is born with a strange curse and that if he isn't killed immediately, he'll become a living nightmare to the people around him," Isabel said and Amelia scoffed.
"Now, that is definitely a rumour. Everyone knows no child is ever born on the day of the bloodmoon much less the son of an Alpha and besides, isn't the blood moon festival a tribute festival? Why would anyone be cursed on such a day? The only reason children aren't born that day is because no form of celebration is supposed to happen during the course of the festival which is why the moon goddess does not allow a child to be born but there's definitely no curse attached to it," Amelia stated confidently.
"Girls, I really don't know anything about this rumour surrounding the day he was born but I sincerely hope that isn't true Isabel cause for your information Amelia, a child born on such a day is indeed a cursed child and that child allegedly signifies pain and death. Nothing good could ever come from such a child," Ana clarified and Amelia is both surprised and confused.
Why would a child who didn't choose the day he or she is born have to suffer a penalty as cruel as death just because he or she is allegedly cursed. Did that even make any sense at all? Amelia wondered to herself, finding it very ridiculous.
Even though she couldn't be sure about the truth behind the Alpha, she still wished to never run into him either way. She didn't wish to find herself in a situation where she would have to confirm the rumours surrounding him by being a victim of his madness.
"Well, I can only hope I never get to meet him. Imagine if someone like us turned out to be his mate or something," Isabel said, shuddering at the thought alone.
"Whoever she is, she's probably the most unlucky shewolf in the world cause I don't even want to know what he looks like much less be bonded to him," Amelia hissed, also shuddering at the thought.
"I doubt she'd ever even get to meet the man anyways. He rarely ever comes out of his home," Ana chimed in.
"Anyways, you better stay out of any trouble cause I need to go somewhere now and I don't want to come back to any kind of mess. As always Amelia, please take care of her. She's in your hands," Ana teased, earning a scowl from her daughter before she walked out of the house.
"By the way Amelia, you mentioned something about leaving the pack a while earlier, what did you mean?" Isabel asked, changing the subject.
"I'm not exactly leaving the pack Isabel. Mom wants me to get her some herbs for the new ointment she's working on and I'll be going to the outskirts of the pack to go fetch them," Amelia clarified.
"Can I come with you?" Isabel asked and Amelia frowned.
"I thought you said you hated travelling? Why the sudden request?" Amelia asked curiously, wondering why Isabel, the laziest person she knew, would want to travel on such a long journey with her.
"I still hate travelling but at this point, I don't mind doing anything crazy just to get out of this vicinity. I'm still wondering how I'm supposed to ever find my mate if I continue to remain here," Isabel replied, visibly upset and Amelia frowned.
"I doubt the outskirts of the pack is the right place to find a mate Isabel. If you're so eager, just walk around town all day till you get tired," Amelia suggested.
"Are you serious Amelia? Do you have any idea how many times I have done that? Besides, mom never lets me go past the first market but with you as an excuse, maybe, just maybe, I'll finally get the chance to explore the pack even more and find my darling mate," Isabel replied with an excited squeal that made Amelia cringe.
"I'm definitely not helping you lie to your mom Isabel. You know how she is," Amelia reminded.
"Lie? I'm not asking you to," Isabel clarified quickly.
"I'm just saying that on our way to the outskirts, I'll take a look at other places in the pack and maybe, I'll randomly run into my mate," she added and Amelia could not help but chuckle at her friend's naivety.
"It's not funny Amelia. Aren't you getting desperate? We're both twenty one already and we still haven't met our mate. What if the moon goddess forgot us? Aren't you worried?" Isabel asked.
"Why would I be worried over such a silly thought? I know for a fact that he's out there and I'll get to meet him when the mood goddess says so," Amelia replied confidently.
"Hmm, if you say so," Isabel muttered.
"You know what Isabel, I'm leaving. I need to go help my mom with work," Amelia said, getting up from where she sat and preparing to leave.
"What time are we leaving tomorrow?" Isabel asked.
"I'll come pick you up in the morning. You better not wake up late," Amelia warns and Isabel giggled before giving her friend a hug and watching her walk out of the house.
"What do you mean they're intruders? I thought we got rid of everyone? Haven't they all learnt to stay away?" Ryan hissed angrily as he wondered why any wolf in their right mind would cross his territory even after the scary stories surrounding him. "I guess they all think the stories are just exaggerated rumours. Also, we have reasons to believe that they plan on attacking unsuspecting people but I already told the men to prepare and we'll go get them later tonight," Adrian, Ryan's beta and closest friend informed him. "There's no need for that Adrian, I'll do it myself," Ryan replied and Adrian frowned. "You can't do that Ryan. They're on the outskirts of town and going there all by yourself is very dangerous," Adrian argued and Ryan let out a frustrated sigh. "They're here because they don't believe the rumours. So I'll go ahead and let them see for themselves that the rumours are true so they can go ahead and warn the others not to trespass. Also, I need an excuse to get out of
"Is he dead?" Isabel asked shakily with her eyes fixated on the unknown man's seemingly lifeless body. "Not yet but he'll soon be if I don't do something. He has lost way too much blood and his wound doesn't seem to be healing like it should," Amelia replied, trying her best to stop the bleeding from his stomach. "W...what should I do? How can I help?" Isabel asked. "First, we need to cover him up a bit more so the cold doesn't worsen his condition. Pass me the sack in the bag, that should be more than enough to keep him warm," Amelia instructed and Isabel quickly does as told. "But Amelia, what if he's a rogue or something? Wouldn't we be wrong for helping him out?" Isabel wondered, earning an annoyed glare from an unimpressed Amelia. "The only thing we should think about now is saving his life, Isabel. Whatever he is, we'll go over that when we're sure he's not gonna die on us. Now, stop fidgeting and wait here with him while I go find anything we could use to help him," Ame
Ryan's eyes fluttered open slowly as the sunlight hit his face from the small window behind him. He quickly tried to push himself up to examine where he was but was stopped midway when a sharp pain from his stomach area hit him. He looked down at his injury and the first thing he noticed was the weird looking ointment that seemed to have dried into his wound. He tried recalling who it was that could have helped him out and that was when everything hit him. He had finally met his mate. A feeling of pure embarrassment hits him as he realised that not only did he look horrible, he was also completely naked with only a sack covering the lower part of his body. He looked around him, trying to make sense of where he was but he couldn't come up with anything. He tried pushing himself up one more time so he could take a proper look around and maybe find whoever it was that had helped him out in the first place. "No, no, no, no, you shouldn't be getting up yet," an unfamiliar voice ye
"Sir, we've looked everywhere and there's still no trace of the Alpha," Ivan, one of Adrian's most trusted men, reported and Adrian let out a frustrated sigh. "He has to be here somewhere Ivan. He couldn't have just disappeared off the face of the earth. Search for anything and everything that could lead us to him and report back to me immediately you find anything. Is that understood?" Adrian instructed and Ivan nodded positively with a small bow before moving towards the rest of the men and relaying Beta's instruction. Adrian's eyes scanned around the forest as he wondered where in the world Ryan could be. He already tried reaching him through mindlink but seeing how he couldn't get across to his friend, he already guessed that his friend could be seriously injured or maybe too weak. "I've found something!" A voice yelled from behind Adrian and he quickly ran towards the direction of the voice. "This is blood," Adrian muttered as he saw the bloodstained cloth. He gently colle
"Amelia, you still haven't told me what happened between you and you know who yesterday. Did you two fight? Did he say he wasn't interested in you? What went wrong?" Isabel asked curiously for the umpteenth time, wondering why Amelia had refused to talk about him since they got back home. "I already told you nothing happened Isabel. Stop bringing it up already," Amelia warned tiredly and Isabel frowned. "How can you tell me nothing happened when you haven't stopped getting lost in your thoughts since we left? Stop lying to me already!" Isabel snapped impatiently and Amelia simply rolled her eyes. "Stop being a drama queen Isabel and let go of it," Amelia advised and Isabel internally fumed. "I can't believe it, Amelia. You really won't talk to me? So you're just gonna ignore your own best friend? Is this really how we're gonna do things now? We're now keeping secrets from each other? Okay then missy, suit yourself but you better not come crying to me when it starts to weigh you
Amelia stood in the darkness, carefully looking around in confusion. She couldn't help but wonder how she got here but instead of screaming first, she preferred to look around to be sure her life wasn't in danger. "Hello? Is anyone here?" she muttered in a shaky tone as the realisation of her situation finally dawned on her. 'Why was she here? How did she get here and most importantly, what is this place?' she wondered to herself, trying as best as she could not to panic. She knew panicking would do nothing but put her in even more danger. "Can anyone hear me? Is someone here?" Amelia asked, this time raising her voice slightly just in case someone would hear her. When she realised that she was by herself, her mind started to panic and she took in deep breaths to keep herself from freaking out in fear. "You can do something Amelia, you can get out of here. This place isn't gonna mess up your mind," Amelia muttered to herself but as soon as she felt a strong wind hit her face an
Isabel and Amelia let out deep sighs simultaneously as they both stared into the sky to observe the stars. Isabel momentarily turns to look at her friend and she couldn't help but notice the dark circles under Amelia's eyes. "You're stressed, huh?" Isabel pointed out and Amelia smiled sadly. "I'm just so confused Isa. The last thing I wanted was to have to deal with something like this at this stage in my life and I thought I could just avoid it and move on but it's not stopping Isabel. I see him everywhere, in my dreams, when I wake up, when I'm about to go to bed, when I'm working, everywhere! He's the only thing on my mind at the moment," Amelia expressed in frustration, hating the fact that she just couldn't change her thoughts no matter how hard she tried. It was exactly how it was during her first dream. She couldn't stop thinking about him. Everything she did suddenly reminded her of him and the only thing she could think of relating to him were the sad expressions he alway
"Are you ready Amelia?" Isabel asked, watching as Amelia paced to and fro with deep thoughts going through her head."I'm fine Isabel, I'm just a little bit worried about a few things," she replied.Isabel frowned. "What few things Amelia? Don't tell me you're thinking of backing out now? Not after I stayed up all night packing my bags and preparing a goddamned speech! You better not annoy me missy," she hissed harshly and Amelia couldn't help but roll her eyes."Can you take a deep breath Isabel and stop overreacting? For goodness sake, I can't possible be thinking of backing out now, I've come too far already. I'm just trying to practice what it is I'm going to say to them at the fortress gate cause it's not like I can go there and tell them, Oh hi, I'm Amelia and I'm the Alpha's mate. They're never going to believe me and they could even chop my head off for lying to them," Amelia said causing Isabel to scoff.
A Month Later It's been a little over a month now since Camille used the spell to get Rakani out of Ryan's body. Amelia was relieved that everything went well and that nothing happened to Camille but Ryan had still not recovered and he was still unconscious. Camille had explained to her that the reason why Ryan was still unconscious was that his energy had been drained from trying to always dominate the spirit that was in him and if she hadn't sent Rakani out of his body much quicker, I would have most likely lost his life. She had told Amelia to be patient and Amelia was trying very hard to remain patient and positive but she was getting really worried now since a month has passed and Ryan was still in the same condition. Leandro had been the one taking care of him but even Leandro said the same thing that Camille said and Amelia had no other choice but to believe in their words and hope for the best. "I completely understand that you're worried right now Amelia but I don't
Camille sighed. After over an hour of trying to perfect it, she had finally come up with the perfect spell that would kick Rakani out of Ryan's body but won't release him from Alisa's spell. After Amelia and Adrian explained things to her, Camille finally understood everything and when she was told again that she was Alisa's descendant, she realised that she had the power to release Rakani and that was why he had made no attempt to hurt her earlier. "Did you check? Is he awake?" she asked Adrian. "No, not yet," Adrian answered and Camille sighed. "Good then. We don't have that much time and we need to move now before he wakes up. All I need you to do is make sure that I'm not interrupted because getting Rakani out won't be easy at all and any little interruption can disrupt the spell and cause trouble. Just keep watch and make sure no soul passes by. Is that understood?" Camille instructed and all three of them nod their head in understanding.Amelia waited outside patiently for C
"I'm trying very hard not to jump to any conclusions right now but you just mentioned something about using a spell on Adrian and I just want to confirm if what I heard is true or if my imaginations are just playing games with me," Amelia said as calmly as she could. She was very sure that she didn't hear things but she wanted to confirm from Camille herself because what she had heard just didn't make any sense at all. "You didn't hear wrongly Amelia and yes, I used a spell on Adrian to get him out of the room," Camille replied and Amelia's jaw dropped. "Hold on a second, are you trying to tell me that the witch that we've been looking for all this while has been you?" Isabel asked, wanting to confirm for herself. She was feeling very confused right now because it made no sense to her that Camille was the witch that they were after but at the same time, it didn't seem to be a completely ridiculous outcome. She would have never thought that Camille was a witch but she also didn't t
"So now that someone amongst us has gotten hurt, doesn't this mean that the witch is going to have to show herself sooner or later?" Isabel asked, directing her question at both Adrian and Amelia who just regained consciousness. "Well, that is what we expect to happen but we can only wait and hope to see how all of this is going to play out. I believe that the witch is going to show up sooner than we think because even when it seemed like things were going downwards for us, Ryan or should I say, Rakani miraculously woke up and did what he did to Amelia and that could only mean that the witch is going to show herself soon," Adrian responded and Isabel sighed. "I honestly can't wait for her to show up and for us to get this over with because all of this is just sickening at this point," Isabel hissed in frustration. "Are you okay, Amelia? Do you feel better now?" Isabel asked and Amelia groaned in pain. She wasn't feeling okay at all and her head felt like it was going to split open
"What did you just say?" Camille asked as she wanted to confirm whether or not she had heard wrong. "I really don't think I said anything that too difficult to understand, little witch. I'm offering you your friend's life and in exchange, you going to break the spell and set me free from this body," Rakani responded. Camille chuckled. The fact that Rakani was asking her to break the spell made her realise that he was definitely not as strong as he was trying to make her think and that there was a possibility that the spell could work on him and that she would be able to knock him out until she's able to come up with a way to get Ryan out of him. "I don't know how you think witchcraft works but just because I'm a witch doesn't necessarily mean that I can break every spell out there. Whoever is behind the spell that you're under is a very powerful person and I doubt a little witch like me can do anything to help you break out of the spell. You're bound to that spell forever and only
Camille heard a strange noise from Ryan's room on her way there and she quickly ran in to see what could have caused the noise. As soon as she walked in, the first thing that she noticed was that Ryan was already on his feet and when her eyes went to the other end of the room, she saw Isabel and Adrian beside Amelia and she immediately noticed that Amelia was unconscious. "What exactly is going on here?" she questioned and when Ryan turned to face her, she noticed that his eyes were red and that was when it dawned on her that the person in front of her wasn't Ryan but the evil spirit that she had met in Ryan's head earlier. "Adrian, Isabel, I need you both to get out of here right now and take Amelia with you," she demanded and Adrian frowned. He couldn't understand why Camille would be asking them to leave especially when she could also be in danger if she remained here. "I'd prefer it if you took Isabel and Amelia with you instead and I'll stay here to try to calm Ryan down and
"So what are we going to do now?" Isabel asked, breaking the silence in the room. "I don't know. There isn't much that we can do besides just wait and see how all of this is going to turn out. To be honest with you, I can't think of anything else at the moment and I just feel like we need to exercise patience and allow fate to play things out," Adrian responded and Isabel scoffed I'm disbelief. She was already finding the entire situation ridiculous at this point because she just couldn't understand why things just weren't going their way. They had waited for the spiritual mother to come around and when she finally did, she instructed them that somebody would have to get hurt for the witch to show herself and they already made up their minds that somebody was going to get hurt and that the person would get hurt in Ryan's hands and now, all of a sudden, the person that was supposed to hurt one of them was suddenly unconscious and they couldn't even come up with anything else to do b
"I got caught Leandro and that's why I couldn't stay with you. Before we met, there was a town I usually go to whenever I needed to get away from my uncle and the stress of having to train myself to become a third in command. The town is mostly occupied by humans and I considered it as my safe space away from my life as a werewolf but during one of my visits to that town, I met an elderly man and he turned out to be a werewolf just like me. As you know, I don't usually trust people easily but since he seemed harmless, I became friendly with him and he and I grew closer during my stay in town," "Long story short, I was foolish to have trusted him. He got into trouble with rogues and I tried to help him but in the process, I exposed my abilities and he saw me. I told him to keep it a secret and pretend like he never saw anything and I expected him to do just that but that was until I found out that he was the Alpha of the Dark moon pack. He started to blackmail me by threatening to exp
"If you want me to talk to you, then you and I have to go to a more private space because anyone could walk past this place and overhear our conversation," Camille said to Leandro and he nodded his head in agreement because he knew that it was risky to stay in such an open space and talk about such a delicate topic. Leandro had a lot to say to Camille because of what had happened between them over the years and also because of what happened the last time he had seen her. After finding out from Camille that she was a witch, he honestly didn't know what to think at first because it all just sounded crazy to him and when she told him that the poison Jarred had in his system was something that she had made herself, he was completely furious and without thinking twice about it, he threw Camille out of his house and told her to never come back. Camille and Leandro headed towards Adrian's office which was the closest and safest place they could talk without worrying about someone overheari
