Tommy looked awkward sitting in the front passenger seat. He motioned for the driver to pull over and told the driver to get down with him. He then consciously maintained a distance from her so as not to appear discourteous.

Corinne sullenly held the hem of the big white T-shirt with both hands and slowly began pulling it up.

Jeremy rested his forehead lazily on his knuckles. His indifferent gaze fell on her, and there was a hint of playfulness in the depths of his handsome eyes.

-

Back at Alpha Enterprises, Richard—the general manager—was severely reprimanded by his boss Alfred because of letting his relative in without a proper recruitment process.

Alfred gave him an ultimatum, too; if he failed to figure out a way to recoup that day's losses and there was a resulting failure to reach a cooperation with the Holdens in that project, he would have to pack up and leave like his idiot of a relative, Zoe.

Richard was in a state of desperation, so he drove out to get in touch with his contacts and find a solution. Just as he was worrying about whether or not he could keep his job, he spotted Jeremy's car parked on the side of the road.

Jeremy was still nearby. What a wonderful stroke of luck that was! He could use that opportunity to explain to Jeremy the reasons for the mistakes in the plan so as to get some wiggle room!

With that in mind, Richard parked the car nearby and jogged toward the black Mercedes-Benz MPV up ahead.

There was heavy tint on the car windows, making it impossible for anyone outside to tell if there was anyone inside.

Richard cautiously looked at the car window and called out, "Mister Jeremy? Are you in the car, Mister Jeremy? Mister Jeremy?"

The soundproofing used in luxury cars was just as good, so Richard's voice did not travel into the car.

'Is the car empty? Did Mister Jeremy go somewhere? Where could he have gone?'

Richard glanced around but did not see anyone nearby, so he put his hand on the door handle and tried to open the door.

At that moment, Jeremy, still inside the car with Corinne, had an aloof expression and showed no intention to help Corinne out of the predicament. Meanwhile, Corinne did not intend to just give in to the man.

After all, she had just been bullied by his sister earlier that morning, and if she did not take a stand right then, she would be treated like a pushover by the Holdens for the coming three months.

Corinne gritted her teeth and took off the T-shirt.

Fortunately, she had worn a small singlet underneath. There might not be much fabric, but it was not revealing either.

Jeremy's eyes froze slightly, and he frowned as he thought inwardly, 'She really had the guts to take the shirt off!'

All of a sudden, the car door was pulled open, letting in a ray of sunlight and cold air into the car.

A strong force pulled Corinne over before she could react. Her vision went dark, and she smelled a pleasantly masculine fragrance of ambergris mixed with the tobacco; her heart began to pound rapidly.

Jeremy reacted very quickly, and it took him only a split second to cover Corinne's body with the suit jacket aside that he took off earlier.

He then pressed her body close to his so that her bare body would not be exposed to others.

After opening the door, Richard happened to see Jeremy holding a woman in his arms. The woman's face was hidden in Mister Jeremy's chest, and she was wrapped in a man's jacket with her fair, slender legs revealed.

Stunned, his jaw practically dropped to the ground.

It did not take long for him to realize that he had seen something he should not have, and he immediately broke out in a cold sweat. "Ah! I'm so—sorry, Mister Jeremy! I was calling you from outside, but I didn't get a response, so I—"

Jeremy hugged the woman tightly in his arms and looked up coldly before snarling, "F*ck off!"

Richard closed the car door at once and wiped away the sweat from his forehead nervously.

He was surely doomed after disrupting Jeremy's 'personal time'.

Corinne was hugged so tightly that she had difficulty breathing.

She had to wiggle a bit from his embrace to get her head out of his jacket. With a frown, she asked, "What are you doing, mister?"

Jeremy looked down at the girl in his arms, and displeasure could obviously be seen in her big eyes.

How could she still be angry at him? Had it not been for him, that guy would have seen her all naked! Jeremy began to wonder if she even had any sense of shame.

After coming to his senses, Jeremy released her from his embrace with a straight face and said solemnly, "Put that shirt on right now. You're the Holdens' young madam now, and your every word and action represent the Holdens. Next time, don't ever do something as shameful as taking off your shirt for no good reason."

'Shameful? Wasn't he the one who wanted me to take it off?' Corinne smiled sarcastically. "I guess this means I got your permission to wear your shirt, then?"

Jeremy frowned slightly, yet there was a smirk on his face. This young woman truly was a vengeful person.

"Yes."

Corinne snorted, moved to one side, and put on the shirt.

Jeremy did not look at her again. He got up and slammed the car door shut as he got out of it.

-

Richard was shaking like a leaf as he explained everything to Tommy, "Mister Tommy, I didn't do it on purpose! Could you please explain to Mister Jeremy on my behalf..."

Hearing the sound of the car door closing, Tommy looked up and saw Jeremy approaching them. "Sir..."

Richard felt a chill down his spine and immediately turned to bow apologetically. "Mister Jeremy, I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to open the door earlier..."

Jeremy's black eyes were cold and stern. "What did you see?"

Richard froze for a moment and shook his head violently. "Nothing! Nothing at all!"

Tommy took a step forward, bowed, and pleaded for forgiveness. "Sir, your sister called earlier, and I went to one side to answer the call. It was my fault for not noticing that someone was approaching the car."

Jeremy glanced at Tommy indifferently and said nothing. He lowered his head, lit a cigarette, and then turned to look at Richard, "Well, you've already followed me to my car, so tell me, why are you here?"

Richard immediately said, "Mister Jeremy, my name is Richard Channing from Alpha Enterprises. We just met back at the company! I… Umm… I'm here to explain the error you saw today. The plan was manipulated by one of the company's interns for her personal interests, and that doesn’t represent our company's true ability. I hope you'll give us another chance to show you the real deal."

Jeremy took a puff from his cigarette and cocked his handsome eyebrows. "Manipulated? Was it the intern who fixed your computer system?"

Richard froze for a moment and then shook his head awkwardly. "Uh... no. It was another one! But not to worry, as both the interns have been fired, and we'll guarantee that there won't be any more mistakes in the future! If you have the time, perhaps you could—"

Jeremy was surprised to know that Corinne had been fired.

"I do not." Jeremy's expression darkened and he glanced at the back seat of the car from the corner of his eye.

Jeremy signaled to Tommy with a glance. He surmised that Corinne had gotten dressed, so he turned around and walked toward the car.

Richard hurriedly followed behind, "Mister Jeremy! This is a good project, and all I ask is for you to give me a bit of your time. Twenty minutes is more than enough..."

Tommy did not hide his displeasure as he stopped Richard and warned, "Mr. Jeremy has made it clear that he doesn't have the time, Richard. Nothing good will come out of pestering him."

Richard froze for a moment and did not dare to pester Jeremy any further. He retreated to the side of the road, saw them off with a bow, and watched the luxury Mercedes-Benz drive away before his eyes.

Entertaining his request was the last thing that Jeremy wanted to do, what with a woman waiting for him inside the car. Richard had no choice but to find another chance some other day.

At that moment, Corinne felt that it was too stuffy in the car, so she lowered the window slowly to let some fresh air in.

Richard looked up at the car and was completely stunned.

That woman in Jeremy's car bore a striking resemblance to Corinne, whom he had fired earlier that day!

Corinne had put Jeremy's T-shirt back on, but she doubled up with the jacket he had given her because she felt a little cold after letting in some outside air through the window."I heard you're fired?" Corinne heard Jeremy's deep voice as she stared aimlessly at the passing scenery outside the car window.Corinne's lips twitched. "Yup, and it's all thanks to you."Jeremy flipped through the documents in his hand. "I gave the company a chance, yet there were still mistakes. According to my standards, such a plan doesn’t have any investment value."Corinne yawned, evidently because she was a little sleepy. "Oh, you don't need to tell me why, mister. After all, I'm no longer an employee of Alpha Enterprises."Jeremy was speechless for a moment. He continued flipping through the documents and said in a casual tone, "If you're looking for a company to do your internship, then—""Stop the car!" Corinne interrupted Jeremy and craned her head out of the car window. Her eyes were sparkli

Sherlyn grabbed the jacket in a hurry and asked, "Be honest, Corinne. Where did you get this suit jacket? How did you even get to know a man who could wear something so expensive?"Corinne glanced disapprovingly at the clothes. "Is it expensive? Some man 'kindly' lent it to me. It's not like I know him well, though."Sherlyn could tell that Corinne was probably telling the truth since Corinne never saw much of the world before. Sherlyn then made a snide remark, saying, "Someone like you can't be acquainted with a man who could wear such a high-end jacket! You'd better return it after you have it washed."Don't think too highly of yourself and try to climb up the social ladder. Men with decent taste will never take a liking to a bumpkin like you!"Corinne chuckled nonchalantly. "By the way, you haven't answered my earlier question. Where's your husband?"Sherlyn's face darkened in an instant. Seeing as Corinne appeared to be in the dark over the details, she put on a haughty demean

Sherlyn said, "My sister's name is—"Francine suddenly caught a whiff of the excessive perfume on Sherlyn's person and retched. When one of the maids saw that, she pushed Sherlyn out of the way and said, "Move aside! Our young miss doesn't have the time to talk to you right now!""Miss, are you okay?"Francine had retched to the point of collapse, and she required the help of the maids before going in.Sherlyn was incredibly annoyed that she was pushed aside before even getting her questions answered. Unfortunately, she did not dare to mess with whoever lived there. The Holdens' driver lowered the window and gave her a word of advice. "Just leave. You shouldn't be poking your nose around a place like this."Sherlyn turned to him and asked, "Are you the driver of this family? Could you tell me who's staying here?"The driver replied cautiously, "I can't disclose that information to you, but I heard that the family just recently recruited a new group of maids. Corinne's face turned purple.By then, Pamela caught her breath and anxiously bleated, "Jeremy... Let go of her..."Jeremy immediately released his grip and tossed Corinne to one side before going over and asking, "How are you feeling, Grandma?"Pamela waved her hand weakly. "It's okay... Earlier, I…I got a prune pit stuck in my throat, but Corinne saved me using the Heimlich maneuver. See that pit on the ground? I just spat it out..."Jeremy froze slightly and glanced down at the little prune pit on the ground. Then, he looked towards Corinne, frowning slightly.Corinne got up from the ground and rubbed her arm which was sore after she had been mercilessly thrown onto the ground by Jeremy. She then went up to Pamela and explained, "I baked those pastries for myself this morning, Ma'am. I tend to leave prunes unpitted because I prefer the subtle bitterness that appears when I bake them. It's not very suitable for old people though, so I sincerely apologize for that."She bowed

Corinne's eyes widened, and she stared in bewilderment when she realized that Jeremy was doing one-handed pushups. He had covered her mouth with one hand after pulling the blanket over their bodies, leaving only their heads exposed. They stared blankly at each other as his face seemed to rise and fall within inches of hers. Anyone who saw them would assume that they were in the midst of a passionate session.Corinne felt a little uncomfortable and pushed his hand away after finally having enough of his suggestive actions. "Mister, you..."When Jeremy lowered himself during a round of push-ups, he leaned into her ear and whispered a warning, "Didn't you say you were going to do a proper job of fulfilling your task? You need to cooperate with me on this as well, so stop moving around!"Corinne stared blankly at him for a moment before keenly noticing movements at the door of the room.Pamela had pushed the door slightly ajar and was observing in secret.'I get it now!' With a frown, she said, "I saw someone I'd rather not see. Let's wait a while before going in."Aaron looked in the direction of Corinne's gaze. "That seems to be Jeremy from the Holdens. Do you know him?"Corinne looked disgusted. "Not really."...The auction hall was divided into upper and lower floors. The first floor was for ordinary buyers, while the second floor was for VIP buyers who did not wish to show their identity. Corinne tilted her head as she looked at Aaron, who immediately understood her hint due to years of tacit understanding with her. After clearing his throat, he raised his hand to adjust the Bluetooth earpiece he wore out of habit on his left ear, and walked past Jeremy and Corinne in as calm a manner as possible. He even made a point to lower his voice a little and pretend as if he was speaking to someone over the phone."Sorry, Boss. Things got a little awkward earlier. That Holden guy overheard me when I was ranting about him earlier. Well, yeah! He's the one who outbid us on your favorite painting! The girl in the wedding dress was Jeremy's niece, and she needed a bridesmaid on the day of the wedding, which was where Corinne came into the picture.Corinne could not help but complain, "Are you that uncultured? Bridesmaids are supposed to be unmarried. Plus, she's your niece, and I'm your newlywed wife. How can an elder become a bridesmaid for the younger generation?"Jeremy frowned. 'Did she just call me uncultured?'The girl in the wedding dress was pleasantly surprised. "Oh! My name is Annie Levine, and Jeremy's my maternal uncle! My bridesmaids got stuck in the traffic jam, so I'm not really concerned with the rules right now because I need a last-minute substitute for her."Corinne nodded. "I see.""Let's go then! Sherman could not help but feel fearful when he recalled the incident.Rita gently smoothed his furrowed brow. "I knew you'd come to rescue me, just like all the times you did. I love you, Sherman."Previously, Rita confessed her love to him when she was groggy. At this moment, however, she was clearly awake, even sporting a faint smile on her face as she confessed.Sherman immediately blushed. "I love you, too."Rita did not stay long in the hospital; she quickly returned to the Parr family's mansion. Just as Sherman's grandparents had said, Rita did not have any major injuries, so there was no need for her to stay in the hospital that long. In fact, she might even recover faster emotionally under the care at home. Not once did Sherman bring up Rita's job, but she surprisingly resigned from New Capital Times on her own accord. It would be difficult for her to investigate cases with her current condition; not to mention Sherman had handed over the evidence to the police. The polic

"Sherman, I like you. I love you," Rita finally confessed.Sherman, deeply pained, pulled Rita into his arms. "This is all my fault. I should've looked for you quicker. I've never blamed you. All I want is to see you smile. It's enough for me as long as you're willing to let me stay by your side."You don't have to confess to me. I know it's hard for you to do that because of your family. I've seen the way they've treated you, and…"The bodyguards who had barged in with Sherman felt a bit awkward to see their company president in tears. However, the priority was to get Rita to the hospital for a check-up. Being tied up for hours could cause circulation issues, and it could be dangerous if her limbs did not regain feelings soon.In the end, they got the bravest among them to convince Sherman to let them take Rita to the hospital. Instead of letting them do it, Sherman wiped away his tears and, with ease, lifted Rita as if she was as light as a feather.Fortunately, after the hospit

With that, Karen left without looking back. She was carrying Vince's baby in her womb, so how could she pin all her hopes on Sadie? Since Sadie was obviously unruly, she would have to rely on her son.'Sadie can spend the rest of her life with Esmond since she likes him so much. God knows it had been exhausting enough to raise her. Plus, it's only fair for Esmond to take care of her since I've done my part taking care of her until now,' thought Karen.Meanwhile, the only consolation for Sherman was that Esmond did not try to put up a fight. It seemed that he still cared about his daughter Sadie.Sherman led his men to a dilapidated house. Esmond had been cautious enough to choose a rundown house situated at the end of a village. When Sherman barged in, he found Rita lying on the floor while Esmond's men ignored her. Esmond's men had followed his orders, and since he did not instruct them to do anything to Rita, they left her well alone. Before the men could react, they were surrou

Karen cried and silently knelt by Sadie's side without trying to defend herself. Sadie, on the other hand, feebly tried to explain herself. Alas. Vince refused to listen. There had been many occasions before when he had chosen to believe Karen and Sadie, but at this moment, he realized he had been terribly wrong to do that.Rita used to be so kind, understanding, and well-behaved. However, ever since Karen and Sadie moved in, Vince felt like his daughter had become manipulative, always trying to compete for attention, and stirring up jealousy in front of him.Unfortunately, it took Rita's disappearance to make Vince realize that Rita was not trying to compete for attention. All Rita wanted from him was to treat her the same as Sadie.Vince used to think that Rita should give in to Sadie more since Sadie was younger, too."Why don't you go live with your biological father since you prefer him so much? I never want to see you show your face around here anymore! As for your mother, s

Sadie was so anxious that she wanted to jump out. "Mom, don't tell me you fell for it! Why did you call Esmond? Now they all know where Rita is. You've ruined everything, again! What were you thinking?"Karen could not care less. She cried and slapped Sadie. "You nearly scared me to death! What would I do if something happened to you? I didn't raise you just to watch you die. I told you not to meet up with Esmond, so why did you secretly meet up with him? How can you ask him to get rid of Rita?"Are you out of your mind? All I want is for us to live out the rest of our lives peacefully, so why didn't you listen to me?!"Sadie was furious. Karen had stopped trying to get rid of Rita ever since she got pregnant, so how could Sadie not be angry? Rita was like a thorn in her side, and Sadie would never be happy unless Rita was dead."Don't you know I like Sherman? How could you ask me to do nothing when Rita has stolen him from me?! Karen wanted so badly to slap Esmond through the phone.'What good are his pompous words now? We wouldn't be in this mess now if he hadn't hit me back then! Not to mention, she's married to Sherman, so that makes her owner of Parr Group too! What makes Esmond think he can get rid of Rita so easily?'Karen's breath was ragged as she said, "If you don't believe me, just listen to your daughter's screams. I can't save her now; you will literally decide her fate! Plus, I'm pregnant with Vince's baby, so even if I lose Sadie, I still have a kid—which is more than what I can say about you!"Sherman could not help but be impressed by Karen a little. "Sherman raised an eyebrow. "Don't worry, I'm sure it's just a minor injury, maybe just a finger. There shouldn't be any major issues. She lunged toward Sherman, wanting to hit him, but the bodyguards stopped her before she could get close.Vince, still worried, held Karen tightly beside him. "Calm down. I'm sure Sadie will come out unharmed if Rita's kidnapping has nothing to do with her. But if it does, then you should know very well that…"Vince's voice dropped an octave. He could not believe his daughter's disappearance had anything to do with his stepdaughter. However, he was not utterly naive. He continued, "How could a girl like her take Rita away?
