"Please, take care of Antonio," Guila stuttered, blood gushing out from the sides of her mouth, her eye bulging out. I could see life slipping away from her body, her skin growing paler by the second.

"Yes, I promise to take care of Antonio. But you're going to be here to take care of him too," I insisted, tears streaming down my face. My trembling hand cupped her cheek, while the other hand held hers tightly, as if trying to anchor her to this world.

My heart raced, pounding like a drumbeat. Seeing Guila in that fragile state felt like a punch to my gut. I longed to trade places with her, to bear her suffering. She seemed so defenseless, and I was overwhelmed with a deep sense of compassion for her.

"Drive faster!" I screamed at the driver, my voice raw with emotion. Amidst my tears and the icy grip of fear in my heart, sweat gathered on my forehead, trickling down my face and pooling around my neck.
