Lavinia's POV
I followed the maid to my father's room and though I was slightly upset, I didn't show it.
As I knocked on the door of his room, the maid retreated. I heard his voice from the other side of the door and when I informed him of my identity, he told me to come in.
When I entered the room, he was standing by the window gazing outside, he didn't turn around to acknowledge and this worried me a bit. Had I done something wrong?
I cleared my throat before speaking.
"Father, you called?"
"Yes." He replied before finally turning to face me and it was then that I saw that he was holding something, a golden box.
He clutched it protectively and I wondered what it could possibly contain.
"Please take a seat." He requested and I obeyed.
"Lavinia, you'll be getting married tomorrow and once this marriage happens, there's no going back so I'm giving you a final chance to decide if you want to go through with it or not. I realize that the first time I asked this of you, I was indirectly putting pressure on you and I must have seemed like a terrible father but I only have your best interest at heart.
Before I'm your father, I'm the Alpha of this pack and it's required of me to only do what's best for the pack." He began and I could see the sadness in his eyes.
I reached out and took his hand in mine.
"It's OK father, I understand and I promise that I'm not upset with you. It came as a shock the first time but I've accepted it. I have no regrets, in fact, I feel proud to be finally able to do something for this pack." I answered and my father smiled at me.
"You've met Prince Rylan, do you have any complaints about him?" My father went on to ask.
"No, not at all. In these past few days, I've tried my best to imagine what he might be like but he's totally beat my expectations. He's handsome, nice and really sweet. To be honest, it doesn't feel like an arranged marriage at all. I'm happy with your choice father and I'm not just saying this, I mean it." I responded sincerely.
"I'm so happy to hear that, the goddess has been so kind to us lately and I only wish for you to have a happy married life." He said and took me in a hug, I melted into his arms.
After we broke apart, he quickly assumed a serious expression.
"But that's not the reason why I called you here. I called you because I have something I would like to give to you." He said and grabbed the golden box, opening it to display a red Ruby pendant that glowed in the light, it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen.
"Wow. It's so pretty." I commented as I glazed my hand over the medium sized Ruby on the pendant.
"This is not just any pendant, I value it with my life. This is the only thing I have of your mother, it was her favourite necklace and before she left us, she gave it to me as a keepsake. She wanted me to give it to you when the right time came and though it's difficult for me to part with it, I can't think of a better time to give it to you than now. It's very precious to me so I hope that you'll take care of it." My father said and I didn't realize when my eyes brimmed with tears.
I know how hard it must be for him to give up the last thing he has of her and this is a really precious moment for me because this is the first thing I've ever gotten that belonged to my mother.
"Thank you so much Dad, I'll always treasure this. I'll wear it for my mating ceremony and I'll never take it off after that. In this way, I'll be able to keep her close to my heart." I promised him and he kissed my forehead.
"I'm happy to hear that, I'm sure that she must be so proud of you right now." He said and the tears finally fell down my cheeks.
He wiped them away and propped my chin up so I could look into his eyes.
"It's such a happy occasion so you shouldn't shed tears or you might jinx it, tomorrow you're going to begin a new phase of your life. I wish for you all the happiness in the world because you deserve it." He advised and I nodded. I took one last look at the beautiful pendant and I was tempted to try it on but I resisted the urge and rather placed it back in the box.
"Thank you Dad. I'll pray that your reign lasts and Selene will guide you." I remarked as I held the box close to me.
"Tomorrow's your mating ceremony so I'll let you leave now because you need all the time you can get to prepare. It's your big day after all." He asserted.
I nodded and turned to leave but as I got to the door, I turned back to take one last look at my father, he gave me a reassuring smile and I returned it before finally.
Beginning from tomorrow, my life is going to change completely and I can only hope it's for the better.
*****
The maids dressed me in a very beautiful dress and adorned me with ornaments but I refused to wear any necklaces because I had a special one saved. I only wanted to wear my mother's pendant today.
As soon as they finished getting me ready, my father arrived at my room and they all left.
I got up to address him but he stopped me.
"No, please sit down. You look so beautiful my dear but your pure heart is your most unique and endearing quality. I feel so lucky to be your father." He said as he approached and stood behind me, both of us staring at our reflections in the mirror.
"I feel like I'm the lucky one, even if most of your actions have never really made any sense to me, I feel lucky to have a father who cares for me." I replied with a smile.
"I know that you missed out on a lot of things because of me and I deeply apologise, I only hope that one day, when you're more mature, you'll be able to understand the reason for my actions." He admitted.
"Maybe I will but I don't want to talk about that today. It's my mating ceremony, remember? Only happiness should be present." I quipped.
"You're right my dear, you look absolutely breathtaking, I doubt that the prince will be able to take his eyes off of you but I can't help but feel like there's something missing." My father stated.
I opened the drawer of my dressing table and brought out the box that contained my mother's pendant.
I opened the box and handed it to him.
He took the pendant and easily put it around my neck, lingering just a tad bit.
"Perfect, now no one will be able to take their eyes off you." He said and I giggled.
"You look just like your mother, I really wish she was here." He spoke sadly.
"Me too." I seconded, holding myself back. The maids had worked really hard to perfect this look and I don't want to ruin it.
Dad quickly wiped his tears and sniffed. "It's finally the moment of truth, kiddo. Are you ready for this?"
"Yes."
"Good. I'll go check on the preparations and ensure that everything is in order. A maid will come to get you soon. Just relax and take a deep breath, it's normal to feel nervous. I also felt the same way when I met your mother." Dad encouraged me and I beamed.
I only hope that Rylan can love me as much as dad loves my mum.
"Stay calm, Lavinia. I'll see you soon." He said and finally left.
I took a deep breath and exhaled. Dad was right, I'm fidgeting so much and my stomach feels like a thousand knots.
"Remember what your dad said, Lavy. Stay calm or you might just pass out." Isis teased me.
"I'm trying Isis but I can't help feeling jittery, almost like something's about to happen." I defended myself.
"Your dad said it was normal to feel this way. You are getting married and that's a big change, it's not just gonna be the both of us anymore. After tonight, our body and soul will be connected to Rylan, I'm really excited about this since it's basically every wolf's dream to be with her mate but I feel nervous as well. Maybe after the wedding we could go for a run to shake off this edgy feeling." She suggested.
"You're kidding, right? I'm supposed to leave with Rylan for the Shadow Stone pack after our mating ceremony so there won't be time for running." I reminded her.
"I know that, I'm just a bit anxious. We should probably try to get our mind off the topic until the actual ceremony starts, don't you think?" She offered.
"Yes, you're right and I have just the solution." A brilliant idea had just come to my mind.
"And what could that be? Isis inquired.
"Let's go see Rylan." I proffered.
"But we're going to marry him in less than an hour so why do that? What if he's still getting ready? She objected.
"So what? We're officially going to be mates soon, are we not? As his mate, I'll have to step up my game. We're going to mate tonight and I can't afford to be shy anymore. I'd just like to see and talk to him before the ceremony even if it's just for a little while, I wanna know if he also feels the way I do. Talking to him will certainly take my mind off things." I tried to convince her.
"I guess you're right. So what are we waiting for? Let's go to our mate right now." Isis urged and I rolled my eyes at her. How could she have changed her mind so quickly?
I got up from my seat and secretly left my room. I walked through the pack house gingerly because if anyone saw me, they'd stop me from going to see Rylan.
Thankfully, no one was around the living quarters, everyone was in the Grand Hall busy with the wedding activities so it was easier to sneak to Prince Rylan's room.
I was a bit surprised when I arrived there and saw that his door was ajar.
I hesitated a bit but still came closer, attempting to alert him of my presence by knocking but then I heard hushed voices and lots of whispering coming from the room. I took a peek and saw that Rylan was speaking with his father, Alpha Argo.
I listened closely, wondering what they could be talking about so secretly and what I heard made my blood run cold.
LAVINIA'S POV"Son, I still don't understand why you agreed to this marriage in the first place, we could have easily gone to war instead. That girl is cursed, she could bring destruction to our pack but yet you're still adamant about it." Alpha Argo said and my heart clenched. I didn't realize it but tears had gathered at the edge of my eyes. Was this really what my future father in-law thought about me? How can he refer to me as cursed and a bringer of destruction? What had I ever done to him? I was beginning to worry if I would be treated right in the Shadow Stone Pack after marriage."Lavinia please calm down and control yourself or they'll be alerted of your presence. In life, not everyone will like you, there's always bound to be people who dislike you." Isis tried to console me."It doesn't seem like Alpha Argo just dislikes me, from his words, it's clear that he hates me for some reason." I muttered sadly."That shouldn't matter right now, Rylan is the one we're going to marr
LAVINIA'S POVMy eyelids open gradually and I'm blinded by the darkness all around. I blink repeatedly and it takes a few seconds for my eyes to adjust to the dim light coming from what I assume to be a lamp.I try to move but then notice that I'm stuck, I try again with more force this time and the thick chains around me bore into my skin, rubbing roughly against it and leaving my skin sore and raw. I seemed to be chained tightly to a chair.Confusion instantly sets in and I start to wonder where I am but just then, a deep but familiar voice causes me to still."I see you're finally awake."I turned my head to the direction of the voice and I saw him sitting in the shadows. Even in the dark, I could make out his figure, he was sitting back, legs crossed. His eyes were fixed on me and I could make out the small smirk at the edge of his lips. His eyes twinkled in the dark, they held a raw emotion I had never seen, one that scared and intrigued me at the same time."Lavinia focus! Have
LAVINIA'S POVI'm awakened by the sound of birds chirping. As my eyes flick open, I'm nearly blinded by the sharp rays of sunlight that wash over my face. Only then do I realize that I'm chained to a chair just beside the window. It takes a few minutes for my eyes to adjust to the light but when they finally did, another realization quickly hit me.Taking a good look around, I soon discovered that I had been kidnapped and was currently being held hostage in my own cottage!Yes, the cottage I'd known as home my entire life had suddenly become a prison for me and I was being held by a twisted and sadistic man who I'm sure is completely out of his mind.I think back to the events of yesterday and though much of it still makes absolutely no sense to me, I decide not to focus on it.The most important thing to me right now should be escaping from here. I should try my best to free myself and leave before Rylan comes back. The sooner I'm able to return to the pack and tell my father everyth
Lavinia's POVHe tore at my panties, leaving them in shreds. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, readying myself for the intrusion but just then, the door pushed open and I saw the last person I expected to see.Siri was standing at the door with anger expressly written on her face and I had never been so happy to see anyone.Rylan paused, obviously shocked. Siri didn't grant him a moment to second guess as she rushed towards the both of us and pushed him away from me. For a woman of her age, she seemed to be really strong and I'm grateful for that.Rylan fell flat on his face and she quickly helped to untie my hands."Siri…." I cried and grabbed her into a hug, crying into her chest."I thank the goddess that you're OK, I'm glad I got here just in time. I'm so sorry about what you've been through dear but now's not the time to cry, you have to leave now. Shift and run to the pack as fast as you can, inform the Alpha about everything. I'll deal with this sicko for now while you b
Alpha Damon's POVIt had already been a day.One whole day since Lavinia went missing and I'm on the verge of losing my mind. I've thought severally about the possibilities and the fact that she just suddenly disappeared without a trace is scaring me.I doubt that she ran away from the wedding because if she did, someone would have seen her leave but no one did and no matter how much I've tried to explain this to Argo, the Alpha of the Shadow Stone Pack seems to believe that Lavinia purposefully jilted his son just to make a mockery of him and his pack.As much as I'm worried about Lavinia, I also feel sorry for Rylan. He also seems to believe that Lavinia ran away because she didn't want to marry him but I doubt that's the case.At some point, I had felt like I was putting too much pressure on her and forcing her into this so I gave her the choice to back out of it but she didn't. She decided she wanted to go ahead with the alliance and she seemed genuinely happy. I was happy about
ALPHA DAMON'S POV"We really shouldn't be doing this, what if it's a trap? What if she's just a spy and she only wants to deliver you into the hands of the Vampires." Ryn, my wolf warned me."It's not a trap, I trust her completely. If she wanted to harm me, she would have done it already." I argued."You're in love with her but that doesn't mean you should act blindly." Ryn continued."This isn't blind trust, I'm just following my heart." I corrected him."Even if she isn't trying to betray you, you know that whatever the both of you have going on is wrong." He blurted and I sighed."If it is, why does it feel so right? I've never felt so alive in my entire life. Everytime I'm around her, I feel so happy, so refreshed, it's like we're the only two people in the world and everything else fades away." I tried to explain as I kept walking up the mountain path."You know perfectly well that what you're doing is a crime but you're still doing it." He wouldn't seem to give up."Love is not
ALPHA DAMON'S POVLong story short, my father was not happy as expected but I certainly would never have guessed that I would be placed under house arrest. He could have beat me up, tortured me or given me any other punishment he saw fit but putting me under house arrest was the worst thing he could have ever done because I would never be allowed to see Emberly again and I had promised that I would be there for her and our daughter. What would she think?I tried to escape so many times but I failed, I was being jealously guarded like a criminal. I feared what might become of Emberly and our daughter since I had been rendered helpless and the thought scared me. It pushed me slowly to the edge each day and I feared that I was going to lose my mind.I was locked up for months but an unfortunate incident became the key to my freedom.I was finally let out of my room one day only to be brought to the corpse of my father. He had gone on a hunt with a few other members of the pack but they s
ALPHA'S DAMON'S POVI returned to the Pack with Lavinia and gave her to a midwife. After which, I held an emergency pack meeting. In the meeting, I let them know of the situation and as expected, I was met with strong opposition. The members of my pack were clear about their opinions. Lavinia is the offspring of a Vampire and Werewolf and they considered this problematic.Mostly because as a Vaewolf, there was a huge possibility that she would possess the abilities of both species which would in turn make her the most powerful species in existence.A great number of people, including my Beta, saw her as a threat, they were afraid that when she grew up and realized the extent of her powers, she could turn against us and obliterate us. I told them this would never happen since she would be one of us but they denied this and clearly stated that she had Vampire blood in her so she was capable of anything. The Vampires were ruthless and they believed she would be too and with that amount o
Nyx's POVHe said nothing but I finally saw his feet in front of me.He raised my head up to look at him and I saw something in his eyes, something I couldn't name. He wiped away my tears and tasted it."Your tears are quite sweet but don't waste them, you'll need it when I punish you." He said and I didn't realize when a smile curved the edge of my lips.He easily carried me in his arms bridal style and I rested in his embrace, feeling satisfied.I had never been so excited for a punishment. He took me to the training room, as I called it. It was a secret room, after his bathhouse, that was specially designed for training slaves. When we got there, he put me down and told me to strip. I wasted no time in obeying and stood completely naked in front of him.I tried to cover myself as I kept my eyes glued to the floor."What did I say about covering yourself in front of me?" He questioned and I reluctantly put my hands down.I always had small breasts which I was very insecure of but I
Nyx's POVI had just about received the biggest humiliation of my life.I thought I wouldn't be able to face anyone after that but giving up is not an option. If I want my dream to come true then I simply cannot give up.I love Prince Kian way too much to simply let some lowlife girl from the gutters come and steal him away from me.I had worked very hard to become my Master's favourite slave, done things I ordinarily would never do for any man and I'm willing to do anything to stay by his side. The only thing I want in life is his love, it's all I live for.It wasn't always like this in the beginning. I never really liked men to begin with because my father was abusive, he treated my mother like trash and degraded me and my sisters just because we were girls. In my young mind, I concluded all men were monsters and decided that I would never get married. It was a day after I turned 18 that our village was attacked by the Vampires. My father was planning to sell me off to some rich old
LAVINIA'S POV"Don't you know it simply isn't good manners to treat a lady like that? Or would you like me to teach you some manners?" A voice from the shadows suddenly said, causing the two men who were forcefully taking me to the garden to pause."Don't try to act like a hero by hiding in the shadows, come out and face us." The first man spoke and I began to wonder if this was just another one of their tricks. Could there be a third person? The third person chuckled and finally came out of the shadows.Even under the moonlight, I found myself mesmerized by him. He had long bright blonde hair that fell over his shoulders and clear amber eyes that could enchant and suck anyone in, he had long eyelashes and beautiful features. He had pale skin like the rest of them and he held a mischievous smile as he approached us.Immediately they laid eyes on him, both men let go of me instantly and moved backwards to both my surprise and relief.I turned to look at them in shock and the look of f
LAVINIA'S POVMy eyes widened in shock. Did the prince just say what I think he said? If that's true then does that mean I can ask for my freedom if I manage to solve his riddle? This seems too good to be true. From my encounter with Vampires, I highly doubt they're capable of keeping their word. It doesn't mean I shouldn't try. I'll just have to try and hope for the best.I try to reason out the answer to his riddle when the first man speaks up."The answer is self hatred.""What makes you say that?" Prince Kian questioned, his eyes glued to his glass as he moved it slowly, the liquid inside following the movement of the glass."Well, because the end of the riddle says that the guardian who is blocking your way is none other than you. You've been fighting the guardian all along to get through without realizing that any harm you do, you do to yourself because you're the guardian of your own heart.I feel like the portal you're trying to get through is your heart. So the answer has to
LAVINIA'S POVSomehow, it still makes absolutely no sense to me why Prince Kian decided to take me to the Creation Ball instead of Nyx.What plans could he possibly have for me? Could it be that he did this just to foster Nyx's hatred for me?No, that's out of the question since the Prince wouldn't waste his energy on something so petty. Whether deliberately or not, his actions are surely going to cause problems for me.Just when I thought I could get through to Nyx, he had to come and do this.Today's the ball and there's no way I can refuse to go. Even if I did, my getting punished would still not appease Nyx so it would just be better to be on my guard. The ball is in about an hour and Prince Kian had asked me to get ready.I felt reluctant but still brought out the dress. I took a closer look at it, admiring the intricate patterns on the lace.I quickly changed into the dress but found it difficult to pull up the back zipper. As I struggled with it, I suddenly felt a cold hand ca
LAVINIA'S POV"What?!" I exclaimed."Yes. Elva talked about it at dinner today. The King is hosting a huge ball to celebrate what is known as Creation Day." Ara revealed and my expression adequately conveyed my confusion."What's that?" "Creation Day is the day the first Vampire was created. They didn't just exist out of the blue like that. Once upon a time, humans once populated the Earth, they used to rule and control everything but their lust for power and their drive to have it all led to nothing but their destruction.A certain King craved exceptional beauty and eternal life. He wanted this at any cost and didn't care what the consequences would be so he sent out an army to seek out the forbidden grimoire, the most dangerous book on Earth which contained not only dark magic but also the secrets of power.Thousands died bringing back that book but he finally got it. He took it to the most powerful witch he knew and ordered her to use the book's spells to grant him eternal life an
LAVINIA'S POVMy eyes suddenly flicked open, shadows blinding me for a few seconds. I blinked repeatedly and tried to clear my vision. There was a lamp in my room, fairly lighting the place. How did I get here? Wasn't I in the Prince's room a second ago?He was drinking from me and then……I suddenly heard someone clear their throat and my head snapped to the direction instantly. Relief washed over me when I saw it was just Ara."I'm glad you're finally awake. You've been out for a couple of hours." She said and I tried to sit up but she rushed in to assist me."What happened?" I asked as I yawned and rubbed my eyes tiredly."Never mind that. We can talk later but you have to eat first. It's pretty late, everyone's already had dinner but I informed Elva about your condition and she let me bring your food to your room. You were sleeping so peacefully and I didn't want to wake you." She narrated and I pulled a small smile.I do feel a little bit tired but I'll have to admit that the rest
LAVINIA'S POVThere's obviously no such thing as stealth when I'm around him.Despite knowing he's already aware of my presence, I knocked anyway. He grunted a reply and I went into the room, closing the door behind me.He was sitting at a desk, going through some documents."Take off your dress and get on the bed." He ordered and I didn't bother resisting.I slowly began taking off my dress, taking off my necklace as well. I went to the bed in my underwear and sat on it.He finally finished whatever he was doing and approached me. He took a good look at me while I kept my eyes glued to the floor."What happened to your head?" He suddenly asked and the question completely caught me off guard. Why is he pretending as if he cares?"I slipped and hit my head on the dining table." I answered nimbly and he broke into a laugh.Really? He's laughing at me?!I suddenly felt his large hand around my neck, strangling me as he pushed me hard against the wall."You should know better than to lie
LAVINIA'S POVAra and I ran to the Atrium as fast as we could. We finally arrived there and watched with bated breath as Linette and Maertisa were just about to serve the food.Elva glared daggers at us, expecting us to explain ourselves."You're late." She deadpanned and Ara just kept quiet, leaving me to speak."I'm….." I attempted to speak but she cut me off."I understand that Lavinia just arrived yesterday so it may take her a bit of time to adjust to things around here but even at that, I will not condone tardiness. I certainly didn't expect this from you, Araxie. You've been here a while and you know the rules, you should be punished in order to serve as a warning to the others." Elva spat, her eyes never leaving us. Ara shrinked backwards and she almost looked like she was holding back tears. I felt bad at this because if I hadn't insisted, she wouldn't have wasted time by chatting with me in my room.I can't let her be punished for my mistake."Elva please don't shout at her
