Elara's POV

The room smelled of old paper and dust-a quiet place, far away from the continuous buzz of pack activity. I did not have any business being here. And yet, here I was, thumbing through brittle pages of ledgers and records.

I had told myself it was curiosity, but inside, I knew it was desperation. Answers had to be somewhere, didn't they?

What I overheard between Andrew and Michael didn't sit too well. They referred to me -like some scapegoat, a chess piece to be moved at every whim. But there was something beneath that, something left unsaid but very pronounced. And I was going to find it.

My fingers brushed against an old leather-bound journal tucked between thick volumes of pack history. I opened it, feeling the spine creak, and revealed spidery handwriting that was decades old. These pages spoke of some "Blood Moon curse" with a very unclear origin and of some kind of artifact called Owlshard.

My fingers stroked the word "Owlshard," as though touching it would somehow dr

Elara's POVStumbling out of the records room, my head reeled from the after-effect of Andrew's kiss. The tips of my fingers were touching my lips involuntarily as a result of that shared moment, which remained a blur even after. What the hell happened? I felt my racing heartbeat. And now, his words: You're trouble, Elara.Trouble, which barely described it.I shook my head, trying to clear the haze, and made my way toward the pack house's back exit. I needed fresh air. The cold night welcomed me with open arms, and I inhaled deeply, letting the crispness sting my lungs. The moon hung low, casting long shadows across the clearing. It wasn't until I was halfway across the yard that I noticed something was off. The hair on the back of my neck stood up, and I froze, scanning the darkness. A rustle to my left. A faint growl to my right.I wasn't alone. They materialized, it seemed, out of nowhere; four wolves in huge masses, the light of moonshine showing the menace they held in their eyes

Elara's POVThe pack house loomed ahead. With every step, my heart still hammered in my chest, the adrenaline refusing to seep away however far Mara and her wolves had retreated. I should have felt safe, should have felt relieved, but all I could think of was her.Rhea.The way she stood beside Andrew, the unspoken connection between them, made my skin crawl. She bothered me far more than the wolves snarling in preparation for an attack did. And I hated it.I gritted my teeth and made myself focus ahead. The tension had sucked all the energy from my body, yet I couldn't let myself stop, not until I could shut out the world and at least try to reason out this crazy life of mine. The sound of footsteps in a rush stopped me. Voices behind me, raised before I could turn."You can't keep covering for her, Andrew," one said. There was accusation obvious in the tone of this man.I turned round slowly, the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. A little crowd had collected, their faces li

Elara's POVMy heart hammered in my chest, not from fear, but from something rawer, sharper—jealousy and anger. It pushed at me, threatening to spill out like a dam about to burst. She was beautiful in the effortless way that made you hate her just a little—dark hair cascading in perfect waves, eyes that sparkled with mischief, and a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. She pouted, but there was a look of satisfaction in her eyes, like she’d achieved exactly what she wanted.“I was just joking,” she said innocently.Andrew’s jaw tightened, and he turned to me, a look of frustration crossing his face. “Elara, go inside.”Inside. Away from the prying eyes of the pack and the smug smirk plastered across Rhea’s face. But I wasn’t ready to leave just yet.“Why?” I demanded, my voice steady but low, carrying the weight of the storm that was inside me. “So your friend here can keep throwing jabs at me while I’m not around?”Rhea gasped, feigning shock. “I didn’t mean to offend you. Andrew's POVAnger snapped through the air like a live wire-hot, dangerous. I was pacing my study, my fists firmly at my sides. It was claustrophobic in here; the walls were closing in while my thoughts spiraled inside my brain. Michael stood leaning against the door frame in the corner, his expression unreadable. It was the casual way he stood that finally set my anger ablaze.“How the hell did this happen?" I exploded, sharply turning myself back around to face him.Michael's brow rose, and his lips quivered with what I suspected, to be amusement. "You'll have to be more specific, Andrew. What do you think?”"Elara!" I said, my voice a little higher than I had intended. "How could the pack rally in an attack against her when you're supposed to be there keeping an eye on them?"He shrugged-a maddeningly indifferent motion. "Perhaps because she does not belong here, and they know it.".It led to an uncomfortable silence in the room, my chest heaving as I fought to control my breath.I

Andrew's POVCrossing back to the window, I watched through the curtain, my hands clutched on the edge such that some fabric tore off. Below, Elara stood at the center of a circle of my pack members. Her shoulders hunched, her hair stuck to her face as she mopped the muddy training grounds. Voices rose around her, mocking, and laughing."You missed a spot, witch," said one jeeringly.Another kicked water over her clean patch, laughing as the mud splashed her legs. But she didn't say a word.My jaw clenched. This was not the Elara I knew. The Elara I knew would have fought back, her words flying through the air like knives-sharp, cold, deadly-deadmise dancing in her eyes. She didn't take a problem with fighting against me, challenging my authority whenever she got the chance. But now? She said nothing. She just stood there, taking their jeers. Why?The question filled my mind, annoying and unrelenting. My frustration swelled in my chest, mixed with the growing anger toward my pack. Cru

Elara's POVThe silence in my room was deafening; the weight of my thoughts was my only companion. I sat cross-legged on the small cot, my fingers tracing the rough fibers in the blanket, staring at the wall.No different was Andrew's pack from Grimshade, I thought sourly. Cruelty, it would appear, goes wherever I go. The laughter from earlier still rang in my ears, each jeer slicing deeper than I should let it.Part of me wondered where I got the right from, caring in the first place. This wasn't my home, it wasn't my people. Yet their words still got under my skin. The way they looked at me though-like I was something dirty, something less … it was too familiar. It brought me back to Grimshade, to nights spent nursing bruises and swallowing my pride. Was I better off here?My door suddenly flew open, banging backward against the wall, sending me upright; my heart shot up in my throat, as I clenched my fists ready for another attack.Andrew leaned on the doorway, casual in his pose,

Elara's POVI shifted uncomfortably in the passenger seat of the Jeep, as it continued to bump its way along the dirt trail. The silence was a thick, heavy hanging between Andrew and I, broken only by the sound of crunching tires over gravel and the occasional howl of wind through the trees. Greg sat in the back quiet, his eyes scanning across the woods as if anticipating danger to leap from the appear at any moment.I still didn't know why I was here.Andrew said it was training, but what kind of training required dragging me to the edge of the pack's territory with no warning and no explanation? He hadn't spoken much since I'd met him downstairs-just barked orders at Greg and tossed me into the Jeep like some kind of inconvenient luggage."Why am I even here?" I finally asked, breaking the silence.Andrew didn't look at me. His hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, knuckles white. "You'll see soon enough.""That's not an answer."He glanced at me then, his sharp eyes glinting wi

Elara's POVMy ears rang as I tried to focus on Andrew's voice yelling my name. My chest heaved with my gasping for breath as my heart pounded against my ribs as if it would burst from them at any moment. Before I could wrap my mind around what had just happened, they came.Someone darted toward us with inhuman speed, followed by two more figures. The attackers didn't hesitate—they lunged with snarls that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up."Stay behind me!" Andrew barked, his voice sharp and commanding as he moved in front of me.Greg was already shifting, his body changing as fur erupted along his arms. Claws extended from his fingertips, glinting in the moonlight. Andrew followed suit, but he didn't transform fully yet, it was just as swift and deadly. The air was thick with the scent of power and aggression, a mix of Andrew's dominance and Greg's vicious anger.I had little time to watch the power they exhibited. One attacker dove directly for me, and I barely dodged, my

Andrew’s POVElara’s dagger had nearly sliced my throat.I could still feel the rush of air against my skin, the fraction of a second between life and death. And the way her eyes—dark, wild—had looked right through me before she stumbled back in horror. She hadn’t meant to.That should have made me feel better. It didn’t. It only meant we've a big problem on our hands. It's good thing we didn't go back to the pack. She might get tripped off and mistakenly kill someone.“Elara,” I said, my voice sharp. “Tell me what the hell is going on.”She shook her head, backing away, hands trembling. “I—I don’t know.”This was what she kept doing since yesterday. Whenever I got too close, asking her if she is okay, she will retort fine. Now, it was more than obvious that she lied.I strode toward her, heart still hammering, fear burning behind my ribs. Not for myself. For her.“You almost killed me.”Her breath hitched. “I didn’t mean to.”I knew she didn't mean to but it does not dispute the fac

Elara’s POV"Embrace the power. Let me in."The whisper curled around my mind like smoke, slipping through the cracks of my exhaustion. It tried to overwhelm my mind and bring it under its subjection. It felt so strange that I jerked upright, heart hammering. My eyes darted around the campfire, searching for… something. But there was nothing. Only Andrew watching me with wary eyes, Michael staring into the flames, and Lora pretending she wasn’t stealing glances at him.The voice had sounded so real.“Elara?” Andrew’s voice was low, careful.I forced my expression into something neutral. “It’s nothing.”It wasn’t nothing. I had been hearing this voice ever since we returned from the seer's cabin. I had let it slip earlier and since then, Andrew has been watching me like a hawk.It made me uncomfortable but there was nothing I could really do about it. So I decided instead of heightening the tension I will just keep it inside.—That night, I barely slept.Every time I closed my eyes,

Andrew’s POVElara hadn’t spoken since we left the seer’s cabin. She walked beside me, eyes fixed on the ground, her arms wrapped around herself. The tension rolling off her was almost tangible. I wanted to say something, anything to make her feel better, but I had no words. What could I even say after what we’d just heard?"You may have to kill her to stop her."The sentence had lodged itself deep in my mind like a blade I couldn’t pull out. We had thought of this scenario before we started the training. But hearing from someone else only made it more likely. And I didn't want that.Elara wanted to keep training. I wanted to believe she could control whatever this was. But doubt had burrowed into my chest like a parasite, feeding on every fear I had.If she lost control, would I really be able to stop her? Would I really be able to kill her?I doubt I could even lay a finger on her as it is. My wolf won't allow it.I clenched my jaw. No. I wouldn’t let it come to that. She would lear

Andrew’s POVThe room felt colder after the seer’s words."You are the key to destruction or salvation."Elara stiffened beside me, her breath shallow. I felt the way she tensed, the way her fingers twitched slightly, as if resisting the urge to reach for the burning marks on her wrist.I couldn't help but blame myself for the turn of events. I should've listened and let her be as she wanted. But no. I wanted a strong and powerful mate who could fight and protect herself when I can't do it.Now it seems everything just escalated. The seer, an old woman cloaked in shadows, let the silence stretch. The weight of her words pressed down on all of us.Michael shifted, his jaw tightening. Lora looked between us, her brows furrowed, ready to argue. But I beat her to it.“Explain.” My voice came out sharper than intended, but I didn’t care. I needed answers. And I needed them like yesterday. This was supposed to make our fight with Dorian easier between now and when the Blood Moon comes. The

Elara’s POVI lay on the ground, my breath ragged, and my body weak from exertion.Andrew’s weight lifted off me, and for a moment, I didn’t move. The loss of his warmth sent a shiver down my spine, and something inside me clenched—something that had nothing to do with the fight.A hand appeared in my vision, fingers open, waiting.I looked up.Andrew stood over me, his expression almost distant, but there was something in his eyes—a look of pride. His head cocked to the side as if challenging me to take his hand.I didn't know how he managed to give off two different emotions at the same time, but it had me wanting to add another emotion to them. One that promises to come from mutual pleasure.I hesitated, but only for a second. Swallowing hard, I reached up and placed my hand in his.The moment our skin connected, pain exploded up my arm. Andrew’s POVThe second her fist connected with my jaw, it seemed as if the world had stopped. A sharp jolt shot through my skull, shaking my senses.Silence.Pure, stunned silence.Elara stood frozen, her eyes wide, her breathing uneven. She couldn't believe it.She had hit me.I brought a hand to my jaw, rolling it slightly. A dull ache bloomed, but I barely felt it.Then, slowly—deliberately—I smirked.“Now that’s more like it.”Her expression twisted—anger, confusion, something else she wasn’t ready to admit. She had felt it. That flow of power. The instinct that had guided her.And it had thrilled her.I could see it in the way her fingers trembled at her sides, the way her chest rose and fell too quickly. But instead of excitement, fear darkened her eyes. She looked like she had seen a ghost. She took a step back, shaking her head. “No.”My smirk faded. Why was she being so dramatic?“Elara—”“No,” she snapped, voice sharp and shaking. “That wasn’t me. That was—” She swallowed,

Elara’s POVThe moment I agreed, the shift in Andrew was immediate. He didn't ask me to prepare. He was ready from the on set.His stance hardened. His expression turned unreadable. This wasn’t a training exercise. This wasn’t about teaching me a lesson. This was war.A war between us. It was not going to be as easy as fighting with Max. I will have to t use everything in me to fight him.I barely had time to process before he lunged at me, his hand stretched out in an attempt to grab my arm.I dodged on instinct, but he was fast—too fast. His hand shot out, grabbing my wrist, and in the next second, he threw a kick at my mid riff. The breath whooshed from my lungs as I hit the ground hard. Pain shot through my ribs.Andrew didn’t wait for me to recover. He was on me in an instant, foot pressing lightly against my throat—not enough to hurt, but enough to prove a point.I glared up at him, panting.“Dead,” he said flatly. “You hesitated.”Rage burned through me. Michael, his hand still reaching for her as he lay motionless.A sob built in my throat, but I couldn’t make a sound.Because at the center of it all, standing in the midst of the destruction, was Andrew. His chest rose and fell steadily, as if this massacre meant nothing. His clothes were soaked in blood, his hands still curled into claws. But it wasn’t just the destruction around him that sent ice through my veins. It was his eyes.Black. Bottomless. Wrong. And from the way the other warriors shifted on their feet, they knew it too.“Elara,” I said, my voice cold. She lifted her head, her green eyes flashing with raw emotions like Pain, frustration, and anger.Good.I crouched beside her, lowering my voice so only she could hear.“This is going to happen again,” I said. “Over and over. Until you get up and fight like you mean it.”Her fingers curled into fists. It's been about an hour since I paired her up with Max and the results were… tragic.“I am fighting,” she muttered. If that's what she calls fighting, I will be damned.
