After taking a bite from the roasted fish, I made my way inside the hut, sitting on the mat as I found myself still shivering slightly.

I wished I had my phone right now in my grasp; I would have simply called for help, but I had dropped it off back at the scene when I heard the gunshots.

It was already late at night, but I wondered what Adrian must still be doing outside. "Are we really safe here in this forest? I mean, are there no tigers or scorpions...?"

I wondered, what if it was one of these animals that got to us first before those assailants did?

Some hours passed as I waited for Adrian to make his way in. A loud thunder echoed through the area, and I could tell from it that it was going to rain heavily tonight.

"Why are you still awake...?" I heard a voice snapping me as I watched Adrian make his way inside. But he was right; why was I still awake waiting for him in the first place? "Wait, was I worried?" I thought... No, that's not it.

I just wanted to see if he wasn't plann

I followed Adrain, and we walked alongside the river.I found myself scanning around the area, hoping the assailants hadn't spotted us.After walking for some minutes, I could hardly feel my legs, hoping to stop when my ears picked up a voice that brought a sudden pause to my steps."Check that place. Make sure you find them." I heard one man say. From the voice, I could tell they were close by. I turned to Adrain, hoping to utter a word, only to feel his hand silencing my lips."We have to move quietly. It would mean our death if they figured out our location..." he whispered.I could admit that I wasn't yet sure when Adrain mentioned the possibility of them still searching; I only saw it as a guess. But now, hearing their voice close by just made me wonder who their boss was and why he wanted me dead so much that he had his men search through the forest for me for four days now.Adrain grasped my hand, leading me further, and we managed to hide behind a rock away from the river's si

"Colt?" I uttered, only for him to move in haste, his hands silencing my words. "We don't want to wake them up, ma'am," he whispered, slowly removing his hands, which were placed on my mouth.I noticed some of my men also coming out of the dark, shadowed areas.I had thought Colt was dead. He was bleeding right there. When I saw him last, he seemed like he was surely going to die. But now, seeing him right here in front of me brought ease, thinking his mother and little sister wouldn't have to face a world without him—the world I had faced without my dad."Colt... you're alive..." I said."Of course, ma'am. Those wounds weren't ones to be the end of me. Back in the army, I've faced greater wounds than that before," he said, gesturing even in the situation we were in."Adrain, sir, seems to be unconscious, and the bullet wound in his leg is quite deep. I would say he needs treatment immediately," one of my men who went to check on Adrain said."We have to move now," Colt said as he hel

"Miss, miss," I heard a voice as I slowly opened my eyes. It was a man standing before me. Judging by his dress, he was a doctor."She is okay now," the doctor said, turning his direction to someone. It was Colt."Alright, doctor. Thanks," Colt appreciated."It's my job," the doctor said, leaving the room after, followed by the same nurse that had attended to me before.I tried to sit up. "Be careful, ma'am," Colt said, helping me up."What happened to me, Colt?" I questioned. I mean, I was okay; the nurse had confirmed earlier that things were okay and there was no issue, so why? Why did I feel such?"The doctor claimed some dangerous substances were found in your nerve flow, ma'am, which led to abnormal activities from them," Colt explained. "Thankfully, it has been extracted, and you are free to be discharged now, ma'am," he said. But what did the doctor mean by some harmful substance? I took no such.A creak on the room door drew my attention to one of my men walking in. "The doct

[Dominic's POV]I entered the restaurant, my eyes scanning the whole area until they landed on him. I was here to see Damarc. After finally accepting the truth, it was high time I started making some moves, even though I wasn't strong enough yet to face Uncle Marc.I made my way, seating myself at the chair beside Damarc."Honestly, to think I would be invited over again for a discussion with Dominic De Santos... such an honor it must be," he said mockingly."Stop the act and tell me," I replied firmly. "You mentioned if I was ready to bring Uncle Marc down, I should call you up for help. So now, this is it. I want him to pay for what he did to my father."Damarc chuckled softly."Of course, I said that. And since you have decided to team up, don't you worry; Marc will be begging on his feet very soon," he said as he stood up. Handing over a gun to Zack?"Why, Uncle Marc? He's just a kid. How can you have such a discussion with him, especially handing him a pistol?" I asked. But he left no reply at first. "You brought those children to my mansion, and I gave them the freedom to do as they pleased. But now that they live with the De Santos family, they have to learn how to survive the worst of the world. They have to be strong, and I was teaching young Zack that," Uncle Marc explained, as though it was just as simple as he had said it.This wasn't like the time when he forced me and Adrain against our will, giving us the real experience of hell. I found myself still standing in the burial ground, hearing the words that left Angelica's mouth."After Mom visited me, she began coming over most of the time. As the bond that had broken between the two of us began to grow, I saw a reason to forgive her for what she had done. I thought maybe this was for the best—a new life with her. I was happy again. Not until I heard the news that she had been murdered. I ran to the scene but wasn't even able to get a last glance at my mother. Even at her burial, I wasn't allowed to go close. I only watched her two children stand there with the man she married," Angelica explained. So she also came to Mom's burial. That day, Father and Uncle Marc had decided to carry out Mom's burial without any crowd, only the De Santos members. I think Uncle Marc claimed it was a tradition; maybe that was why I didn't see her that day."Until I met Zack and the rest of the children. [Sierra's POV]After some days staying in the hospital, I was discharged. I made my way out of the hospital supported by some men hired for my security, as I entered the back seat of the car with the driver starting the car engine. My gaze glanced through the dark street; it was late at night. It felt as though everything was complete—Uncle was in jail, and Nate was dead. Yet, why did I feel like I had nothing else to look up to?The people I most cherished were gone. The only one I saw next to me was Aunt Malisa. "I have to keep going for her sake..." I thought. The driver arrived at the mansion, and I stepped out, managing some footings. I made my way into the mansion but paused, noting the dark presence the mansion left."What happened to the lights..." I wondered. I wasn't able to tell anything—my heart raced as I took little steps. Was I maybe wrong to think everything was over?In a blink, the light came, causing me to shut my eyes suddenly from the reaction. "Welcome back, mam.

[Adrian's POV]"Uncle Gavin! I did it, Uncle Gavin!" Why was I seeing this memory now? I guess it's because of what occurred so far. The same man I saw as a father figure, the one I trusted so much, turned out to be the enemy. He trained me to be who I am today, but in the end... "Why, Uncle Gavin? Just why did you have to be the enemy?"I woke up, feeling the intense pain in my head. I tried sitting up, only to find Dominic sitting next to my side."You're awake, Adrian..." he said. Yet, I found only my gaze downcast."What happened? So it's over..." I questioned as Dominic replied, "Yes.""He died?" Should I be happy, knowing he was gone, or sad? A side of me claimed this was a victory, knowing all he had done, the fact that he was behind Mom's death from the very start. But why does my heart say something different? Those little tears that never ceased from falling down splattered on my hand."I know this is all hard to take in, Adrian. I also can't seem to understand everything th

All this while, I had thought it was Dominic. I wanted to make him pay so much, but, in the end, I teamed up with my mother's true murderer."Okay, that's enough now, Nate. Let her take it all in slowly. What more of a death would be greater than having them regret the whole life they have lived?" Damien said."Mom... I'm sorry, mom..." I whispered, those tears not ceasing. I felt something on my head. It was Nate aiming a pistol at my head. "Now, why don't I do you a favor and take you to that old hag?" he said, and my eyes shut in those moments as I heard a loud gunshot, causing my eyes to open back up."Do you think you can take down the De Santos that easily?" I heard Dominic, with a smirk playing on his lips. "I knew you would make a move, so I had a tracker inserted in my skin, and now you took the bait, dear Uncle Gavin," he said as more guns echoed through the area. They were coming from outside the room."We have to kill them fast, Father. We need to leave now," Damien said.

I found myself tied to a chair, as Adrian and Dominic were also tied to chairs beside me."What are you doing here, Sierra?" Adrian asked, but shouldn't I be asking the same question? I had heard that he and Dominic went to attend the burial of one of the De Santos, but now I found the two of them here."That bastard; he must have spiked the wine," Dominic's voice cut in. He was also awake. But wait, does this mean they were both kidnapped and brought here from the burial? Who honestly was this enemy?I noticed another man tied to a chair, but his face was blindfolded with a sack mask, so I wasn't able to tell who he was.Just as I hoped to let a word out to Adrian, the door creaked, and I watched some men make their way inside."Who the hell do you think you all are to have Adrian De Santos here?" Adrian questioned, but was he expecting his name to help out here? I mean, these were people who had been h

[Adrian's POV]It had already been four months, and yet I found myself still unable to figure out who this enemy was. My mind still echoed the words I heard from Raglan after I paid him a visit. He mentioned that there was a third man; he was the one who seemed like the boss. But none of them had ever seen his face anywhere. After hearing that, I tried looking for any information, something that could tell me more about this third man, even visiting the experiment building again, yet I found nothing. The only thought I found myself guessing was that this third man was possibly the enemy, or he was working with the enemy, and the experiment seemed to be carried on.I had hired more men to help me figure out and fix this puzzle, conducting research and gathering information they could find."We have to go now, Adrian..." Many of the De Santos members were already gone, each dying in a cruel way.I wore my cloth, intending to step outside my room, only to find Aunt Marisa waiting."You should rest; you're not yet feeling well, Sierra." she said.I had a high fever last night, so it was expected of her to be this worried. After we met back at the party, I allowed her to live with us in the mansion."I have some things to attend to, Aunt Marisa. I will rest once I am back..."
