Chapter 7
Reds and Blacks"Look, I'm…I…just let me go home, please. I promise not to come here again," she pleaded. The polythene bag containing the food swung behind her as she crossed one hand against the other at her back. "Look, I need you to do me a favor," I requested in return to let her go free. "What should I do for you, please?""Good! Wait and see," I promised and made a call."Hello, Antonio, track me."Within a few seconds, he appeared like a ghost. "Antonio, take her to the boutique, get her a nice red dress, take her home to get clean, and let her dress up. I need this to be done in twenty minutes," I commanded and wished noticing the time wasn't enough! Her blonde hair was very attractive and I think she didn't need to waste much time on it. Antonio adjusted his hat, got his tall body to the entrance, and signaled her to follow him but she didn't move an inch. "Do you want someone to see you this way? I guess I call someone else," she started walking towards us. "Don't make me lose my temper, you won't like it!"As she was walking out, she still had the food she had packed in her hands. 'This girl might be going through hard times,' I imagined. "What's that in your hand?" I took it when she walked past me and tossed it back into a basket containing leftovers. "You will have more when you come back, be a good girl," I said my last words and stepped away. After they were gone, I set an alarm for them. I needed her badly, I didn't want to do anything with Angela, 'Why in hell will my mother stoop to care for me this way? How does my marriage life…'"Matt, look, you are all grown now!!!" My grandma testified and took my hand. "Come greet my friends," Old women! She pulled me behind her like I was still a little kid. "Meet your uncle, he has lived practically all his life in Korea, he came here today all because of you," She oriented me. For about five minutes, she just introduced me to almost everyone at the party. I think my mother deliberately gave me the wrong time. "Where's your fiance?" Someone tapped my shoulders. I turned slowly to look at the person before I gave an answer. I did not want to be rude. I wanted to keep my head up until the party was officially over. "Oh, I am sorry, I've not seen her around," it was the politician. He wasn't family but what was he doing at the party? He looked into my eyes and turned his face diagonally. "I just want her to be free, I think she's around. I just don't want to bother her. Trust me." "Don't let me start believing the rumors, kid," he warned."Why don't you help those rumors die!?" I retaliated and stood in his face.He nodded and vanished. The alarm sounded. The time I had them was up but they were out of sight. "Hello! May I have your attention, please? I guess by now, you have all finished taking lunch and have talked to everyone here…It's time. Let's start." The MC and Uncle announced. I began to sweat under my black suit. People began to stand in couples. I began to feel lonely and different. "Tell everyone my son is getting married soon!" Catherine, my mother passed out fake news but who thought it was? They all clapped and shouted "Congratulations" in chorus. As I was focussing desperately to see Antonio park my car outside, the room became tense, silent, and cold all of a sudden. Eyes were being caught by something. They were all looking back and at the same place.Soom their eyes halted on me. I wasn't amazed to see Angela stand at the back quietly and hold up a very-big-wide-smile. She closed her eyes when I didn't smile back. I know it was so fake. This lady would be my devil for the day and face my wrath!"What?" I blew out on her angrily. Others did not know I was angry. She knew but wouldn't stand down. "What's wrong with you? Do you want to have me disgraced in front of my family? Hold on, what are you even doing here? You ain't a family woman." I whispered a thousand questions into her ears but she just made up another irritating smile making me more crazy. "Here, drink something. You'll be fine," she stretched her arm and offered me a glass of drink, all this while, eyes were still on us. They've all pulled back leaving both of us in the middle of the hall room as if we were acting some sort of 'Shakespeare's play, Othello'. Nope, I'm not too ugly to be 'Othello'. "Don't make me humiliate you. Because you wouldn't like it." I warned her but she still insisted. "Take it, my boy!!!" My mommy cheered and clapped. I looked around to see people in their reds, and blacks. And each black matching with a red. For my mother, she stood with the politician. I looked around and watched outside but there were no signs of Antonio and Kate and rain started to pour. I began to lose hope and accept to be with her but for sure, I've dreamt I was with Kate that day. "Hey bro," my brother suddenly showed up and hugged, "Man, pretend we are cool and I'll help you out." He whispered in a very low pitch into my ears. I understood the game he wanted to recreate. "Hey you, where have you been!?," I intentionally laughed and hugged him again, "You dare not think we are cool," I also whispered in his ears. The drama was so good. "Let me have this drink, I'm so thirsty," he playfully said and took the drink from Angela's hand. All of a sudden, the whole hall began to clap here and there. I think taking the glass meant he would need to be with Angela. "Parker!" My uncle called out, "You just intercepted a nice scene, now you'll need to take Angela for the night." The MC explained. "No, he took a shot for his brother!" My mother debated and my brother stepped back. I had no choice but to take Angela. They clapped again but I wasn't happy about it!I had to give a speech on how my life had been after my father's death and how I'm taking care of his companies. "I think Matt is first on the list," the MC called out. Immediately I mounted the stage to give my speech with Angela behind me, and a cool breeze blew in the hall. Every single person dropped their jaw in awe. At last, Kate came in a beautiful and distinct red gown. Her hair was partially covered with a fascinator and her red bag said it all. 'This girl is very beautiful.' I recognized it. Why were they even this late!?Chapter 8 Red turns bloodyKATE'S POV:—---------Music and noises went off as if the DJ had control of the people at the party too.He tuned down both his blasters and the humans' voices. I felt uneasy and felt like some crazy woman wrapped in thirteen blankets. I held up my heavy long gown so that it wouldn't be mopping spilled liquors. Maybe, I would need to return it after this party, it's too expensive for me to keep. I looked around all intersections of the gigantic hall, but Matt was nowhere to be found. A few moments later, the sound systems booted again and people began to thaw as if they were frozen earlier. All I could see were reds and blacks so finding Matt was a problem!"So as I said…" Matt's voice reverberated. I lifted my head to see him on the stage and waved at him. Matt of all people waved back excitedly, took a deep breath, and continued his speech while I just stood right to listen. "Maid, maid, maid!," Cathrine called repeatedly walking toward me, "You look
Chapter 9—-----------Laying there helplessly, I wished that a savior would pass by but all hope and wishes were in vain. "I have to save myself before I die," I encouraged myself and started crawling like a snake with the help of my hands. On my first try, the pool of blood wouldn't let me go. I slipped and fell back in it and later on, I began to feel a headache. "Help me! Help! Is someone around? Anyone, please help me," I wailed, desperately. I felt stranded, and sick at the same time. I shouted for 'help' vibrated in my head and it increased the pain I felt in my head. "Help! Mommy!!!" I was exhausted again but who would hear me in this extravagant house where people were partying, not to talk about my mother who was resting at home? I had given her some pills, and the last bread before I set out to look for food for myself. When I felt dizzy and was about to sleep, I gave attention to some approaching footsteps. I couldn't gather momentum to shout for help similarly as I had
Chapter 10—-------------"It's a silly name, I can't remember, but…hold on," I realized they weren't driving me home, "Oh please, where are you taking me to?" I asked, my voice declined this time too. "Stop the car?" Matt commanded, "Where do you live?""Not far from the party house," I answered calmly. "We can't go back, it's either you get off and start walking or you keep quiet and follow me to my house," he said, pushing his tablet into an opening at the back of the seat he fronted. I was already dozing off, I moved left and right, looking for a comfortable place to lay my heavy head. My eyes started to get wet as I tried to force them to stay active. Next day at Matt's Mansion —-----------The next day, I woke up in a large beautiful cold room all alone. I looked around and noticed it wasn't my room. 'I don't have a bed like this big cotton one. Am I in Matt's room?' I threw the blanket which covered me to make myself free, it was so heavy that I couldn't bear to carry it o
Chapter 11----------Patricia stayed at the training room while I followed Matt.“I think I need to get home before my mother…” I paused, I didn’t want to let out that my mother was sick.He turned and looked at me, wanting me to continue.Having not spoken, he just entered his room.I wandered around the luminous house like a ghost. I didn’t know what to do at the moment. I began to recall how stupidly I got to that house not knowing they owned it! I sat on the sofa for a while and went straight to have a glance at the flower garden in the center of the house. It attracted me anytime I passed by. During my first week, I wasted half of my hours admiring the red, yellow, and multiple colored flowers. Sometimes, Patricia would scold me for plugging them, so I looked around before I stubbornly and swiftly snatched a flower from its stem.I wasn’t lucky, it crushed before I brought it to my nose to testify to its good scent. I recognized an unusual flower in the middle of the beautiful
Chapter 12------------ Phone call continues--------“Kate, I don’t think you feel what I feel, it’s painful when you want your son to marry the right person, if she’s good, I will just let my son move on with her…” her voice swallowed, breaking into a seconds’ cry, “I love my son, but I don’t know what he thinks of me. Make sure you don’t tell Angela about this, she might get hurt, I will know how to deal with her.”“Yeah, she is the one.” I confirmed after taking a close look at the picture and hung the call. End of Call-----------I didn’t ask for the money in return, I knew I had done no job and didn’t deserve such an amount and secondly, I felt bad about what I had just done. Her cry and words melted my heart like fire on wax, and after all, I did it for Matt to be free from Angela, she's a Devil in disguise!. I lay on the bed reading Cassandra’s text messages and figured she was disappointed in me.I felt my stomach growl alongside other organs singing, “We want food.” I coul
Chapter 13---------------MATT’S POV:-----------“You are very beautiful, have you ever done this?” I said I didn’t want to force her to remember, maybe I might force her to disguise herself as the person, that lady Nightingale I have been searching and searching for, or perhaps, her beauty might be playing in my mind, I wasn’t only going to kiss her, Nope! I felt like fucking this hot girl! Hold on, I might ruin my reputation if she’s not in the mood, “Do you want to do this,” her shiny pretty eyes forced me to catechize. I have had sex so many times with prostitutes and random girls; I could testify that there was a vast difference between how I felt with them and this feeling with Kate.“If that’s the reason you called me here but…,” she supposedly said, touched her chest, and continued, “why this sudden feeling for me, because I don’t think I feel the same way? Do you want to put me in trouble? Your girlfriend might find out and…I…”She raised so many questions, but I was conc
Chapter 14---------------“I’m Dr. Charles Osborn, we need to talk in my office, please,” a doctor insisted, he walked just as he spoke. He rapped and walked faster. This doctor seemed to have no time to waste. He led the way right away and we followed his steps, moving fast till we banged into his office, maintaining the same pace.“This should be confidential, can you excuse us, gentlemen?” he asked Antonio, who had already pulled a seat. He made no attempt to leave, he was just doing his job and was waiting for command. He wouldn’t take instructions from anyone except me, even when he followed me to the court after the death of my father. I wasn't ready to let him walk out just like that.“Did you hear me, Sir?” he continued, and looked at me, thinking I would help him send Antonio out.“What are you doing now?” Antonio asked. There was a serious problem but I was enjoying their drama.“I’m doing my work,” he answered, still wasting my time.“Just focus on that, please. We’ve s
CHAPTER 15----------------KATE’S POV----------------“Welcome! Kate,” a woman happily said immediately as I opened my eyes.I felt respite after I had woken up from the long sleep and elongated myself to the length I couldn’t continue any further.“Who are you?” I asked, throwing the heavy blankets away again. This time, I wasn’t naked.“I am Marilyn, your doctor for the day,” she introduced herself and sat beside me, “can I ask you a few questions to help me help you better?”“Sure, why not? And I am Kate Doe, your patient for the day,” I spoke, realizing my voice was normal.“That’s funny, it's nice you’re funny!” she laughed her ass out, “I already know your name, let’s move on to the main issue.” She added.“I don’t see that funny, I was trying to introduce myself,” I debated, sitting upright.“Yeah, funny people don’t know they are funny, by the way, I’m sorry,” she begged, “what happened to you, Kate? Tell me what you remember before you…just tell me about your day.” She requ
Chapter 45Kate's POV"Who is your father? Is that why you came here?" I winced at the question, not wanting to delve into painful memories. "I don't want to talk about it. Let's forget about it," I abruptly cut the conversation short, desperately needing some rest. I lay down silencing myself.Packer seemed even more worn-out than I were, trying to steal glances at me surreptitiously. Our eyes would meet, and then he would hastily divert his gaze to his tablet, pretending he wasn't watching me. Before I knew it, exhaustion overtook me, and I drifted off into sleep.NY City. Matt's Mansion----------------------The next morning, I found myself back in Matt's mansion; the new room he gave me. As I pondered on the events of the previous day, I couldn't believe I had been rescued. My life had taken an unexpected turn, all because of my own troubles. Lost in thought, a loud pounding on the door startled me. "Come in," I called out. It was none other than Matt, with his striking grey-dye
Chapter 44Matt’s Pov“I can’t track it any longer. I think the phone is off or something is wrong with it,” Antonio announced, “it keeps blinking. It is not stable and we can’t rely on it.”The more we got closer, the more she went further. We tracked her for so long and sometimes lost the signal. We were in the middle of a road, very far from Darren’s house, but thank goodness she was still with me.“I put a tracker on her,” Doreen said and pulled her phone to lead the way, “we can’t drive through this place, we can only walk.” She added. Not wasting much time, we started jogging as fast as we could. Reaching a place, howls of wolves were heard all over. I was afraid, but my gun kept me company. “Wait, guys!” Packer exclaimed, and picked a phone from his feet, “I found something.” It was Kate’s phone. I knew her phone and she decorated it with toy stickers. “Give it to me,” I snatched it from him, turned it on, and figured the battery wasn’t dead. Someone might have purposely done
Chapter 43 *********Kate’s Pov*********** This was a trip I regretted embarking on. I was here to find my Hero but it seems I came to fall in trouble rather. “What is wrong with you?” I asked the man who said he was my Hero, “Why did you lie to me?” I angrily asked him. “Shut up, I can’t be your lost boyfriend. I am not your hero nor have I heard of a person by that name.” he walked out, after receiving an alert on his phone, dropping mine on a box that he was standing behind. The place looked like a warehouse. I was tied up to one old forklift. Rusted cars, parts of machines, and boxes scattered all over the place and as dusty as shit! I could barely inhale and exhale, but I contrived little by little.“What do you want from me??” I asked the remaining bodyguards who stood around me, but none of them answered as if they didn’t speak English, “Get me some food, I am fucking hungry. Is this how you treat your dogs?” I inquired. For about a day and a half days, I was captured and
Chapter 42MATT’S POVRight after I noticed Kate was gone, I went to my mother’s house. Luckily, she had nowhere to go so she was home. “Stay out of my way!!” I yelled. I was extremely vexed and filled with hatred. The security figuring that out prevented me from entering the house, but it was a big mistake for them to try that as I punched one on his nose. Blood oozed from his nose as the others fell back pointing their guns at me.“If you move another step, I’ll shoot!” one of them warned. “Do you know me?” I asked, attacking him to collect his weapon while the others stood to watch. I shot in the air to waste his bullets, and to show them I was fucking serious and wasn’t ready to play games. My mother came to stand at the top of her building and yelled “Let him in,” after realizing I was eager to meet her.“What makes you so angry, Matt?” she asked, holding her glass of drink. Her face was painted as always.“What do you know about Kate’s attack!?” I angrily questioned. She too
CHAPTER- 41 *********The next day, when we had had enough talk and happy moments, Amanda wasn’t worried about her husband’s lost job. She said, “God knows the best,” she would smile after spewing out those words. Her husband was busy having a talk with the kids on the balcony and laughs and giggles were only heard. They were a very great family, I guessed. “Do you work?” she asked me.“Yeah, I work as a maid,” I whispered at the back of my voice and grinned. She did seem surprised, it seemed alright for her, and didn’t want to continue with that. Soon, we heard someone pounding at the door, “Are you expecting someone, sweetheart?” she asked her husband who was seriously playing with his kids and running after them. “No!! I am not.” Suddenly, her face changed as she walked up to the door to check on the person, “is everything alright, dear?” Jackson asked when he heard nothing again. He came around the sitting room and took a quick peep at the person who knocked. “Is everything a
Chapter 40 *********5 Days Later - Kate’s Pov *******************When the day was set for me to leave for Wales, I was somehow nervous but my mother cleared it away. She had given me some money I never expected, saying, “Take this money, it’s yours. You gave it to me when I was at the hospital,” she put it in n my bag, “Call the number immediately you reach there.” “Mom, I have enough, at least for days’ accommodation,” I said, placing the money on the table, picked my luggage, and set out. I got to the airport within an hour. I went solely, Cassandra was around and had not left for school. She was taking care of my mother so I didn’t need to disturb her so much. I sat idle and mouth shut in the plane as I kept thinking about what to do when I reached there. Besides, no one was coming to meet me. “Hello, I am Jack.” The man who sat beside me said, tucking
Chapter 39---------------“What did I just do?” I blamed myself after we finished having sex. It was not as exciting as I have read on the internet. I got to the washroom, and there I examined and took a careful look at my face, boobs, and VG to see if there had been an immediate change. I didn’t see anything, not even the blood I thought I would see. I went back to dress up to leave his room, “now, can I come back to work for the rest of the month?” I asked as I dressed up. He was still lying in bed, with his blanket covering only his lower part. “Where are you going?” he asked, “didn’t you come here because of me? To let me know you love me? This tells me that, Kate.” he assumed. “Do you love all the women you have had sex with?” I questioned. He also got down and turned his back on me. He wore his pants and then went to his wardrobe looking for a different white T-shirt and took his seat. “You are different, just know that. I can force you to love me, to be only mine but I just
Chapter 38--------------The next day, I stepped out early in the morning wearing a hot spangle dress Matt bought me. The birds chirped and sang their morning songs as they saw me so hot in it. Only a few automobiles sped and vibrated on the road, where I stood. The bus stop wasn’t heavy at all. I wondered what was going on. It was 7:00 Am and it wasn’t normal to be like that. I looked left and right, stretching my neck to see the yellow-long omnibus, but it was not coming. I was feeling so reluctant to walk. And much of it would trigger my healing foot.‘Why am I doing this early in the morning?’ I wondered and started walking back home. From the bus stop to where I lie was just a stone's throw. “So soon?” my mother asked, taking the breakfast I had prepared for her. “The bus.” I disappointedly whispered. “Yeah, today is Sunday. Have you forgotten?” she clarified and took a bite of her bread, after swallowing it she continued, “I wouldn’t go there now if I were you, I would wai
Chapter 37----------------KATE’S POV-----------------At Kate’s home**************My mother was not hungry, so it did not matter how much time I spent outside. And besides, she had stopped being lazy, she could now prepare something for herself and do a bit of clean-ups. In the morning, I went to the grocery store to get some vegetables. I stopped by Cassandra’s room, instead of getting into mine.“Cassandra,” I called, dropping the paper bag in an empty basket in her room, “I missed...”“Don’t even let it out!” she yelled, “what shows you miss me?” she added and continued her popcorn as she sat on her sofa watching TV.She was right about that. Ever since she left for school, I had not called to check up. No, this was the only semester and it wasn’t even over. She had just come home for a week's holiday.“Well, did you call, text, or even send me a voicemail?” I retaliated, trying to pick up our stupid fight which had no proper basis. It was just a ladies' thing, “I’ve been throu
