Kyan's POV:

I sat at the table as everyone began to gather around and take their places. For the first time since the attack, we were finally dining together once again. I felt a flare of irritation as Magnus chose the seat next to me. The last two days he's been here, he's done nothing but put both me and my father on edge, making us suspicious of everyone, questioning the loyalty and trustworthiness of the ones we have come to call family. I could already feel him grinning whilst he eyed everyone suspiciously as they tucked in at the table waiting for father to take his seat at the head of the table.

"It warms me to see everyone here, with the exception of Vaughn, but I know we all understand why he doesn't feel ready yet to dine with us all. We are facing hard times". Father announced to the table, his face etched with noticeable worry and guilt. "I regret that I cannot reassure you, we are through the worst of it. I won't hide the fact nor pretend what my instinct tells me.... and that is, that I believe and feel, it is not quite over. Which is why it is impertinent that we all stick together and remain strict with our patrol duties and not leave the castle grounds". He informed us as hushed whispers passed across the room. "For now,, let's enjoy our meal and from tomorrow and onwards, myself and Kyan will inform you of your tasks, protocols and any new information we come across. Now let's tuck in". He finished as he sat down with the rest of us, but I could sense the awkward distress from everyone around me, they were all now on edge, knowing that once again we were in the dark about what was going to happen next.

Magnus didn't hesitate to help himself to forkfuls of food as he piled it onto his plate, glaring from one person to the next. "You know, this would be over much quicker if our spy wasn't such a coward!" He commented and all at once, everyone's heads shot up and their eyes focused on him.

"Spy?" Mal asked with a frown.

"Oh yes, a spy!" Magnus replied, looking chuffed with himself that he managed to catch their attention so easily.

"Who was a spy?" Mal asked, looking as stunned as everyone else.

"This we do not know yet, but rest assured, I will find our little traitor and cut off their limbs one by one seeing as their betrayal got my brother killed!".

"Some of our own died too!". Lincoln added with a forlorn expression.

"So I've been told". Magnus said in a cool, calm manner. "But don't worry, I'll let you all have a turn with our spy. After all, you'll know them better than I do, so I know you'll feel their betrayal more than me".

"You think the spy is one of us, don't you?" Del chimed in with an amused and bewildered look.

"Oh, I know it's someone that's here. Someone that knows your every move, your weaknesses, when to strike and how to tease you and lure you out of this place. Someone here is not who you think they are!".

"Thats ludicrous!" Del bit back. "We've been here together for years, we're family! Not one person here would turn their backs on us. We all fought in that attack and we fought hard. Everyone sat at this table right now was ready and eager to take every single one of those fucking hunters down!"

"Hmm, well maybe it's not anyone sat at this table". Magnus spoke as his upper lip turned almost into a grin.

"Well, who then?" Mal asked curiously, his brows frowned in anger.

"Well, the two days I have been here, I've seen your little humans, you like to associate with and call your friends! It could be one of the ones that cook your food, keep this place clean, or could very well be the one so innocently laying in bed!"

"Magnus, don't start with this shit again!" I warned him as he dragged Ellie back into his suspicions.

"Well, it's quite a coincidence! Since she hasn't left that room, there have been no attacks, no tracks or traces of any hunters. Am I right?"

"She isn't a fucking spy!" I snapped back.

"Your brother and his woman are missing or dead! I would have thought you'd be one of the first in line to find out who's stabbed you all in the back!"

"Oh I want fucking revenge on whoever has done this, but I won't go around accusing people who have done nothing but prove themselves loyal!"

"Or maybe you're just naive and don't want to face the truth!"

Del then chuckled as he shook his head at Magnus. "Kyan! Naive! In all the years I've known him, he's barely had any trust for anyone. If someone wasn't trustworthy, Kyan wouldn't be fooled!".

"Is that so?" Magnus replied with a scoff. "Well, he seems to have a lot of trust in his little human woman".

"Magnus!" Kiko spoke as she leaned forward on the table looking daringly at him. "I get it, your pissed! You come here and try to cause a divide, because, let me guess... you don't actually have anyone you consider a friend and perhaps Hyvan was the only one who could tolerate you! But WE ARE family here, we have each other's backs, even if that means risking our own. You can pin all this shit on the humans we have here, including Ellie, but WE know them and we know her! Ellie put herself at risk when we were wounded. She literally chose to save Lord Talon at the cost of her own life! And for all the rest of the humans we have here, they have been good to us and work alongside us. So, no matter how hard you try, you won't turn us against each other and you won't turn us against them either! Your little comments and jabs you make at us... isn't going to fucking work, so if you want to have revenge for Hyvan's death, then work with us, not against us, otherwise, if there ever comes a time when you need someone to watch your back.... no one here will have it!" She told him harshly and I couldn't help but grin inwardly as he seemed to be completely in shock by how boldly she put him in his place. Perhaps now he'll remember he is just a guest and not one of us!

Magnus remained mostly quiet throughout the rest of dinner but still kept his eyes and ears peeled on every conversation, every look and move anyone made, like he was quietly watching, gathering information on each person, gauging their character and the likeliness of who could be the spy. He clearly wasn't going to give up his mission to seek out the person he wanted to kill most and as much as I couldn't stand the man, at least he'd be busy on that task whilst I could concentrate on what the fuck we do now.

I was the first to leave the table, leaving everyone else to their chatter, and I knew father was only staying to keep an eye on Magnus. I headed up to his chambers and peeped my head round Ellie's door to see her still quietly sleeping as Bianca sat in the chair sewing and humming to herself. "No change?" I asked as I walked in.

"No, she didn't wake. Although she was twitching a lot, then her hands started to tremble and she got rather hot, so I got a cool cloth and cooled her down. It was as if she was dreaming".

"But if she's just dreaming, why isn't she waking up?"

"Well, her body may still be recuperating but it seems her mind is fully awake. The poor dear, she looked rather distressed". Bianca said as she got up from the chair. "Well, I'll be off now. If she gets hot again, be sure to keep her cool and maybe talk to her to let her know she's safe. As soon as I started humming she seemed to calm down, I think it helped".

"I will Bianca, thank you for watching over her".

"Perhaps tomorrow night you'll let me watch over her again? That way you can get some sleep in a proper bed. I've never seen you with such dark circles under your eyes, you'll need to keep your strength up".

"Yea... yea perhaps!". I replied, suddenly noticing the heaviness of my eyes, like they were begging me for a decent sleep.

"Well, I'll come and check in on you both tomorrow and we can discuss it again then". She spoke softly as she gave me a reassuring pat on my shoulder. She quietly left the room as I sat next to Ellie. The room was so quiet, apart from her gentle breaths and the flashbacks of her falling limp in my father's arms as her blood trickled down her back, began to fill my head. My brother, the hunters.... that's all I could ever think about! I longed for the carefree days again, no tragedy, no heartbreak and loss, just.... quiet...peace!

Ellie's POV: "Ellieeeee" A voice whispered as I wiped my blurry eyes, trying to clear my distorted vision. I could feel a cold breeze whip across my skin as the hairs on my arms began to stand in alarm. "Ellieee" It came again, followed by a menacing chuckle, but it sounded like a woman's laugh. My vision cleared as I looked down to see I was bare feet in the forest as they nestled within all of the mud and twigs as thorns began to pinch my toes and break into my skin, but once again I found myself in a situation where I couldn't move and my chest felt tight and wrought like the air itself was squeezing tightly onto my ribs and not letting go. I looked up ahead to see three bodies emerge from the clearing in the trees. My breath hitched as I saw the three vampires me and Vaugh had shot at walking toward me with vengeful sneers. The bullet holes were still visible on their bodies as blood continued to spill from them, trickling all the way down to their feet, staining the earth bene

Kyan's POV: I stretched in the chair and tried to wake myself up after nodding off. I scooched over closer toward her and took her soft hand in mine, once again watching her sleep, wondering what she was dreaming of. All night she had been shaking, sweating, her hands were flinching and her breaths were erratic. I tried to speak to her, I tried to calm her, but it was only the last hour that she had finally calmed down and was resting silently. "Please wake up Ellie!". I sighed as I looked at her soft innocent face. Her eyes suddenly flashed open, staring wide-eyed at the ceiling as if in shock at her surroundings. "Ellie!" I spoke softly as I quickly stood and hovered over her so she could see she wasn't alone. Her eyes darted to me, but still wide with fright. In one quick second, her hand slammed against my neck as her fingers wrapped around and began to squeeze, her face contorted into one of anger. "Ellie!" I choked against her grip as I pried away her fingers and pinned bo

Ellie's POV: We hadn't left my room in the last twenty-four hours and, to be honest, I don't know why he never left. But here he was lying beside me on my bed face to face after he had listened to every word that came out of my mouth as I detailed my dreams to him. It still scared me, of how real they had felt and my instinct told me it was a sign of what's to come. I could even see it in Kyan's eyes, the concern and knowing look that we had only faced part of this battle. He tried to reassure me, of course, "You're safe now", "we'll get through whatever happens" he'd say, but he barely believed his own words, too much was unknown and too much was at stake. Right on our very own island, hunters and rogue vampires had joined forces right under our noses, in our very own territory! Bluebay town was no longer safe and hiding amongst the depths of the forest wasn't safe either. "Me and Kiko eavesdropped on an announcement your mayor gave to the town. Everyone is still against us, the

I chuckled as I happily hugged her back, a hug that was needed as I felt the comfort of a friend that I felt like I had known forever. "I can't believe you ran in front of that arrow! Honestly, we were all just so shocked! You seemed to have run out of nowhere!" "Well, i'm fine now". I shrugged as we pulled away from our hug. "I'm so glad you're ok too, but then I knew it would take more than just a few hunters to take the mighty Kiko down!" I giggled. "Too right! They didn't see me coming, did they?" She smiled back. "Did you hear about Vivian though and Hyvan?" "Yes, Kyan's told me everything. He said Vaughn is struggling". "He's.... it's like all that's left of him at the moment is rage". "It's understandable. But if they're still out there, maybe he'll have the chance to take that r

I replied jokingly."Well, we were all so happy to hear you were ok. You gave us quite a scare!" "Yea, I'm just sad for Hyvan and Vivian. Things wouldn't feel so bleak if they had been ok too". "I know". She said with a shake of her head. "It seems as if the times have changed so drastically. So will you be staying here with us or going back to town?" "There's nothing really for me to go back to. An empty house that isn't safe to stay in and no friends or family left to see. I think i'll stay put". "Ahhh goodie!" She smiled as she clasped her hands together. "I was hoping you'd stay". "Yea, I think I'd miss you all too much if I left". I smiled back

One week later: I had spent every day training with Kiko, Kyan and Del. Each of them teaching me their own fighting skills that I was starting to master a little bit more. After each session in the gym, Kyan would make me practice getting myself onto his back and I was getting closer and faster each time. Not only was it benefiting us all and a necessity, but it was also a good distraction from the constant meetings and decisions on how better to protect ourselves, how to improve the searches and most of all... how to bring the town and the cold ones together. I found my connection with Kyan was growing more comfortable and stronger with every moment we spent together. If we were laughing, training or just discussing our lives before, things had changed so much and I noticed he had opened up a bit more with every conversation. He told me how much he used to hate being here and would leave every chance he got as the memories of this place only reminded him of his mother and his grandf

"Are you ready to try and convince everyone to understand our way of life?" Faye asked as we sat together in the kitchen with Melanie, after they insisted on feeding me before I left to go to Bluebay. I had felt nervous all morning at the thought of addressing them all when they'd all be aware of where I have been the past year. "I know what I want to say, it's just whether they will listen or not". "It won't be an easy task, that's for sure!" Melanie added with a doubtful expression. "I'd be surprised if even one person was open to the idea". Faye said, agreeing with Melanie. "But, they have to see how much better off we'd all be if we joined together!". "Uhh, you're asking them to join forces with what they consider to be blood sucking monsters". Faye smirked. "You know how they all think there, Ellie, you even thought the same way before you came here". "Yes, only because not one person ever told or taught me to know anything different. I'll be going there as a witness to

The sweat poured down my face as Del knocked me to the floor once again. My lungs and throat were burning while I tried to catch my breath, my back was red raw and tender from the amount of times it had been slammed against the mats. "Get to your feet!" He demanded as he walked back to his position. I pushed myself up and my arms and legs wanted to buckle beneath me. I had the urge to punch him for pushing every part of my body to breaking point, but I only had myself to blame. After all, I had told him over and over not to go easy on me but the motivation just wasn't with me today. I woke up angry and frustrated with everything and we all felt the same. Sick of being watched, being isolated and confined to these walls, having to train day after day. The neverending searches, finding nothing but a random foot or shoe print that lead to nowhere. Ten days had passed since we went to Bluebay and according to the mayor, not one person had shown any interest in us all uniting, despite th

We stood on the top deck at the railings as we saw the Island come into view and the ships horn blasted into the sea breeze. As we came in closer, I could see two figures standing at the dock, waiting for it to anchor. As the ship finally pulled in, I could see it was an older man and woman, elegantly dressed in a black suit and an emerald, green gown.“Who are they?” I asked both Kyan and Talon, but neither of them answered, Kyan just squeezed my hand, with the biggest smile on his face and Talon patted my shoulder with a knowing look. But I watched his face as he looked from me and out to them and I thought I saw him looking slightly nervous, but it was gone too quickly for me to really know.We stepped off the ship and made our way over to them as they waited with bright smiles. Their main dinner hall was all painted white and a pastel blue with a long glass table set in the middle for their meals, glossed white chairs around it. They even had several cream fabric couches against the walls for everyone to calmly relax in once they’d eaten. They had a hedge maze in their rear garden that stretched out as far as the eye could see and their own lake that swept through the edge of their trees. There were other smaller houses that were only half a mile from the castle that housed some of their permanent lodgers, couples, friends, families. It was a busy island, constant music, gatherings in the n

That was when he suggested that it would be good for us both to take a little trip together and kept talking of how much he wanted to introduce me to some of his oldest friends and for me to see more of his world, the world that I was now a part of.We had spoken to Talon and Zekan about it straight away, with Zekan assuring us he’d be more than capable to keep things going while we were away and Talon, was all too eager to join us, only he was choosing to extend his trip a lot longer than ours.I wanted to say goodbye to everyone, to remind them we were only a phone call away should they need us, but

Two weeks later.Me and Kyan didn’t take what Talon had asked of us lightly. The very next morning we had told him that from hereon out he was to show us everything we needed to know. We spent hours going through files of different islands where other vampires lived safely in anonymity. There were four other islands that housed just vampires and two others like our own, who had certain territory on a shared human island. We had to learn all the names and current whereabouts of the well known rogues, which ones were animal based feeders, and which hunted on human blood. It would be our duty to regularly know where they are along with the lords on the other islands, and for us to always keep one another up to date.Talon had already told mayor Jackson of his decision and that he had to now only converse with Kyan or myself. I knew that would mean, Andrew Jackson would have to announce it to the town and although they tru

Make sure you tell Bianca and Constance too”. “Of course, Talon. I’ll tell them all now. I’ll have Stuart call for Gerald, I think he’s in his room”. “Thank you Faye”. Just as she was leaving the room, Talon nodded for us all to sit down. I looked up at the window of Ellie’s bedroom, wishing I was up there with her instead of seeing to this mess. I had hoped with every breath that she was still alive, I’d hoped I’d see her again safe and untouched. Of course, I knew I was hoping for a lot, my realistic side of my brain always told me she would have changed one way or another, that they’d damage her to a point…Only I had expected it would be bruises, cuts, tearing her down mentally. I never thought that if I got to see her alive again, it would be with her as a vampire, one of my kind, something I knew she was too sweet and kind for. Now, not only was she one of us but they did in fact manage to change her heart too. That crazed look I saw in her eyes, the w

I remember Melanie speaking softly with tears in her eyes. The next time I woke, I found myself tucked in my bed in Talon’s chambers.
