Chapter 6
Maya's pov
I heard a knock on the door and cautiously approaching it and squeezing the door handle.
It was late into the night, even the headmaid wouldn't send me an errands by this time but I wouldn't put it past her anyways.
“Who's there?” I asked, holding my breath.
“Relax, it's just me,”
The sound of Madeline's voice did everything but help me relax, even so to avoid suspicion I backed away from the door.
“Come in if you want to,”
“I didn't think I'd catch you awake by this time,” she said folding her hands together.
“Why are you here, Madeline, to say ‘I told you so’... In that case, don't even bother I've already mentally butchered myself before you even walked into this room,” I tried it to keep my voice steady but it betrayed me stripping my feelings of inferiority from their mask.
“There's no need to rub it in my face,” I said to have gesturing with my hands wide spread.
“You win. You always freaking win in the end, and I'm always the loser. Are you happy now? Are you satisfied after taking everything away from me?”
She looked at me the same way someone would look at his zoo animal with this sort of condescending amusement before a ripple of laughter left her lips.
“What nonsense are you talking about? It was never yours in the first place. How can someone as pathetic as you accuse me of theft?” She said then laughed a bit more.
“Ridiculous!” She let out, “But never mind that, I came here to ask what you were going to do with your bastard,” she said bluntly.
My hand fell to my stomach, “My child is not a bastard,” I said shaking with spite.
She shrugged as though her words were not hurtful.
“Whatever you choose to call it, it's an inconvenience in my plans,”
“What plans?” I was unable to help my curiosity.
“You are somebody that has never born the weight of expectation, so you can't even begin to comprehend what I'm planning,”
She walked closer holding eye contact with me then lowering her eyes to my stomach as she scrunched her nose with disgust.
“Tomorrow morning, I'll announce this pregnancy,” she said with no emotion, as if she was merely reading about the weather.
“I'll let everyone in the park know that my twin sister is a shameless whore who seduced MY mate,”
I shivered at the coldness of her tone.
“Madeline, if you do that…I'll…they'll force me to have an abortion,” I said, my voice crumbling with each syllable.
“They might banish you too,” she said with a casual shrug.
“Doesn't really matter how I get rid of that parasite in your womb as long as the end results are the same,”
I had never felt close to my sister before, it always seemed like we were worlds apart, but I didn't know what to make of this new distance between us. It was like someone I'd never glanced at before.
Madeline left me with those heavy words weighing me down, until I picked myself up. Knowing what I had to do.
With tears blind in my eyes I packed my few early possessions into a small bag, finally coming to a decision that I should have made years ago.
I'm leaving this blasted pack.
There might be nothing waiting for me beyond its boundary, but I would rather feel nothing done than all of the hurt that was wrecking my heart.
In the middle of my packing, I thought about Barry; the love I'd tenderly nursed all these years only for it to metamorphose into a flame that burnt me mercilessly.
Then my mind drifted to the Innocent life growing in me with each passing second.
This was my priority now.
I managed to sneak out of the packhouse on the pretence of an errand. When I reached the boundary I looked like the sign and gulped, turning around one last time.
Once I took a step beyond this line I would become a rogue. A vagabond with no home that welcomed.
A sarcastic laugh left me.
That was almost the perfect description of my life.
So what was I so afraid of?
Passing the line, a strange feeling mixed up with the turmoil in my heart, it was as though I had dropped a heavy weight that I had been unceremoniously carrying my whole life.
Like everything good in my life the feeling didn't last long, I don't know for how long I walked until I was surrounded by border guards, their scents telling me they were from another pack.
“A rogue!” one of them yelled as two others grabbed me by my arms, I was forced to release my bag. It fell to the ground with a soft thud.
“Search that,” the leader amongst them said, gesturing to my bag,
“There's nothing in there!” I said as my few cherished belongings were unloaded to the bare ground and all but destroyed while being searched through.
“I told you there was nothing in there!” I yelled tears rolling from my eyes.
“Silence, rogue!” The leader of the guards yelled back at me.
“That proves nothing, your kind are always out to do something. Why are you here; to steal? as a spy?…spill it!”
I couldn't believe how pathetically naive I was, running away thinking everything would be okay. I hadn't been on my own in one solid day and this happens.
“You won't talk, fine then it doesn't matter you'll pay for trespassing into the Red Phoenix pack,”
“Please don't –please spare my child!”
the leader hesitated for a second then a familiar voice cut through the chaos.
“What's going on here?”
All the guards bowed in unison, “Greetings, Alpha!’
My throat became dry, I was almost tempted to pinch myself because this had to be some kind of weird dream if not how could it be –
“I didn't think I'd see you again, “
That he was my one night stand.
Chapter 7Maya's POV.‘Could this be real, or was I just dreaming?’ I thought to myself as my eyes rested on the tall, handsome figure that stood right in front of me. The air that had been filled with tension, almost to the verge of suffocation at the sight of the guards that had threatened to do the worse earlier suddenly felt light at the sight of him.The familiar hazel eyes left me in a daze for a few seconds as my mind wandered into the possibility of this entire new development being a reality or just a mind trick, I could not believe that the stranger I had a one-night stand with days ago was the Alpha of the new pack I had found myself in. I had forcefully stopped myself from harboring any thoughts about the stranger after the mating ceremony, knowing fully well that he was nothing but a stranger to me; I knew we would never cross paths, so there was no need to do that. But it seems like I was wrong, perhaps the goddess fated our path to meet again. “It's you? The guy fro
Chapter 8Maya's POV. “You are welcome to my home,” he whispered as we arrived at the enormous mansion that I had sighted from afar. I could only nod in astonishment as the size and beauty of this new environment consumed my mind, how in my mind, I was finally glad to take the ridiculous action of leaving home; at least it fetched me somewhere better. But then, I had to shorten my excitement; I don't really know what awaits me here, so it would be foolish for me to delve into celebration without being sure of what life holds for me in this new place. “Welcome, Alpha; how was the hunting?” A middle-aged woman approached us immediately. We walked into the mansion and greeted the Alpha, who I had met in the woods.“Not bad. Thank you, Marianne,” he responded with a light nod. “Take her to the visitor's quarters and tell the maids to attend to her every need. Also, get a room ready for her here in my quarters as soon as possible,” the Alpha instructed the middle-aged woman who was con
Chapter 9. Maya's POV. “Maya, you have to give that baby to me, or I will kill you and take her away!!” Barry's voice thundered from behind I was still looking around in the mist, searching for where to hide in the mysterious house. I found myself when a hand grabbed my hair and pushed me to the floor; I scrapped on the ground, clutching my baby to my chest as I tried to escape from the unknown person. I turned to see that it was Barry; he was with a sharp dagger, pointing it to my face as he tried to take the baby from me. “No, Barry, please don't do this,” I pleaded with tears as I struggled to stop him from taking the baby away from me. “He is mine, Maya. Let go off, or I will force you to do so!” He barked in rage as he forcefully took the baby away from me and stabbed me in the arm before running away with the baby. “No, no, no!!” I cried out in pain as I struggled to go after him but was too weak to stand. **********“No, no, my baby, my baby,” I cried and jolted awake,
Chapter 10. Maya's POV. I lay on the bed for some minutes after the maids left before venturing into my exploration in the room. I took a look at so many things in the room; the bathroom, the mini-library, the wardrobe and other beautiful artworks in the room. My search in the library was more like a tour, it was filled with quite a good number of interesting historical books about werewolf kingdoms in the centuries ago, and other business books. The Wardrobe was also filled with so many beautiful dresses that got me gushing out in admiration when I saw them. I was so filled with joy that I forgot everything about home and secretly prayed that this new-found joy stays. I stepped into the bathroom to shower up and get ready to meet this God-sent Alpha that had made my day delighted. Just in the bathroom, as I soaked in the warm water I had filled in the bathtub, my mind drifted away as several thoughts surfaced in my mind. I suddenly started to wonder why I was receiving such trea
Chapter 11Maya's POV. “Good morning Alpha” I greeted, my eyes fixed on the table to avoid meeting his gaze. “Good morning, how do you feel now?” He asked, scanning face. “I feel better, thank you for the hospitality” I said, finally moving my eyes to meet him. For some seconds, I was lost at the sight of his beauty. I never saw him in broad daylight, our first encounter was at the mating ceremony, and the second in the woods, at the boundary, both at night. I had only noticed his enormous height and his hazel eyes, but certainly not other features. He looked really handsome in the daylight, chiseled jawline, fully well carved brows and straight nose that was gracefully placed, soothing his beauty. His dark locks of hair run down to his shoulder, making him look more unique and handsome. I couldn't help but gush in admiration, though I quickly collected my senses, putting them back in others as I recalled what Barry did to me. It was still the same gender and I had to play caref
Chapter 12.Maya's POV. “Did you get my question earlier, or were you telling a lie? You obviously know what happens to liars, so just stay clean with me, and I don't like repeating myself,” he smirked coldly, staring dead at me for a response. I already sense what could be going on in his mind; this man was certainly not the same cool-headed man I met at the mating ceremony, or does he get so quick at anger? He was just being so kind one minute and the next, he was already staring at me like a hungry facing his prey. I knew at that point that I had to act wisely to avoid getting myself into trouble. “Yes I am, I–I'm pregnant” I stuttered in fear as the words came out of my mouth, wondering why he was being inquisitive, what it was that he wanted with my pregnancy. I secretly prayed to the goddess to protect my child and me. His expression seemed to soften a bit at my answer as he continued with his interrogation, a bit gentle this time around.“Was it from the incident that took
Chapter 13.Maya's POV. I couldn't be mad at him because it wasn't entirely his fault; I needed help after all; I was the one who wanted a better life for my child. I had lied from the beginning of the event, and I couldn't take back my words, but at this point. Even if I did, it would only make things worse for me; where would I go if I decided to refute it? I'm basically homeless.I needed a shelter, a home, a means to survive, and there is no other place or means of getting that except this. I had to do what was needed to be done; I would only be regarded as a rogue if I should the four walls of this pack; I would be prone to so many bad things out there; it's dangerous, and I can easily get killed. I had to accept his offer; I had no other choice after all. “What's your take, Maya?” Kylian's voice echoed into my head, bringing me back to the deep thought that had taken over my being. “I will do it” I swallowed hard, raising my head to meet his gaze. “I will go with the contract
Chapter 14.Maya's POV. Kylian was already waiting at the front of the mansion, his hazel eyes rested on me as he caught sight of me walking out of the building, consuming every of my being. A gaze of attraction, admiration, and satisfaction. The corners of his lips slightly twitched into a satisfactory smile, I could literally feel the unwavering admiration in his eyes under my skin.‘What's going on in his mind?’ I thought to myself as I wondered if I was actually looking that good to make the cold Alpha who had just taken advantage of my vulnerability and cut down my journey of motherhood to the space of one year. His smile was enough to melt an icy, making him look more innocent and kind, which I know very much that he was nothing close to. He only acted like one at the first time because of his intentions; it was all because of the pregnancy, because of my baby.Despite the fact that I already hated him for presenting the contract, I found some part of me clamoring for the dre
Chapter 17. Kylian's POV. “We need to talk, Maya,” I said, pushing the door open as she finally released her grip on the handle. She was a bit hesitant as I walked into the room before unleashing her question, her expression and tone radiating the anger that she was trying to keep hidden. I knew she wasn't happy, I knew there must be something going on in her mind. I couldn't decipher what the problem was exactly, and I couldn't read through her mind to know what was going up there. She had maintained a distance from me on our way, though I wanted her to stay close to me, not because I wanted to take that opportunity to spy on her thoughts, but because I couldn't control the feeling of wanting to have her around me and making sure she and the pup were in a good state. The doctor had warned us about her health and that of the pup, he specifically stated the need for her to stay out of stress, any form of stress to avoid getting the baby into danger. I knew I needed to protect the b
Chapter 16.Kylian's POV. The strange princess I met during the mating ceremony never left my mind; she got stuck in my head and became part of my everyday dreams and thoughts. Her emerald eyes flash in my mind every second of the night, and sometimes in the day. The desire to have her again in my arms lingered in my head every time. She was not supposed to be messing with my head this way; she was not supposed to get stuck in there in my head. I was not ready for that; besides, what we had was just a pleasure, one that was meant to be enjoyed and lasted for that night alone. We only used our bodies to vent our desires and to pass out time, so why the heck was I feeling the whole attachment? I knew it was just daydreaming, a delusion. I called it because I didn't believe it would happen. I didn't get to know her; I don't even know her name, so how am I supposed to find her even if I start searching for her? Even when I made an attempt, it was futile because there was no logical ev
Chapter 15.Maya's POV. Kylian helped me up from the bed after the doctor left before leaving for me to change into my clothes. I had asked him to leave earlier so I could change into the procedural gown; I was suddenly shy of changing in his presence even when I was fully aware that we'd had something intimate before now. I couldn't wrap my head around my reasons for the sudden shyness, perhaps it was normal, what we had at the first meeting was just a one-night thing, I wasn't used to him like I was to Barry, and I had to keep to my privacy to avoid fueling the unwanted feelings that were fighting it's way out of my heart to leap forward, it might end up being a disaster like the first.Though he deserves better than that scummy guy, Barry, I have to be cautious of my actions this time around, I can't trust him not to change and act like Barry, there is a possibility that it will happen, so I just have trade with caution and stick to the contract, I can't let myself get hurt the s
