"W-what?" Usher blinked. "Breaking our pairing?"
"Why? Don't you want to?"
Usher did not answer, and Mireya immediately freed herself. She stood up while Usher looked puzzled.
"It seems that what Vione said is true. In your eyes I'm nothing more than a mistress."
"Mireya."
Usher stood quickly and grabbed Mireya's hand. He held it tightly, preventing her from moving any further.
"Usher, let me go."
Usher shook his head. "No."
"Don't be selfish, Usher. You won't let me go, but you won't let Vione go either? Do you want to have both of us?"
Mireya's accusation left Usher speechless. He remained silent while Mireya tried to pull her hand away.
"I'm not selfish, but..."
Usher's words hung in the air. He took a breath, and confusion creased his forehead.
Something was not right here. Something was wrong and Usher could sense it. But what?
"But what, Usher?"
In one swift movement, Mireya managed to free her hand from Usher's grip. But instead of walking away, as Usher had expected, she turned to face him.
"Tell me. But what?" Mireya pressed passionately. "But you won't let go of Vione?"
Usher shook his head. "It's not like that, Mireya."
"Then what is it?" Mireya took a step back as Usher approached. She brushed Usher's hand away as it tried to reach her. "Do you really love Vione?"
Usher's eyes widened. His mouth opened, but he felt something strange as he tried to refute Mireya's accusation.
No. I don't love Vione. I don't—argh!
Usher closed his eyes. Suddenly, an invisible, heavy weight seemed to fall on his head. He was dizzy with a throbbing pain.
Usher's painful moan startled Mireya. Concerned, she approached Usher.
"Usher, what's wrong?"
Usher endured the pain, holding his head with one hand and growling. "My head, Mireya. My head hurts."
Mireya's eyes widened. Panic was written all over her face and she quickly urged Usher to sit down.
"Wait, Usher. I'll get you some medicine."
Usher ignored Mireya. He fought the increasing pain and squeezed his hair with both hands.
"Hold on, Usher."
Mireya quickly prepared tea and grabbed a painkiller from the bedside table. She helped Usher take the medicine.
"Relax. The pain will be gone soon."
Mireya placed the empty cup on the table and led Usher to the bed. She covered him with a blanket and said,
"Rest. I'll stay here and take care of you. If you need anything, just let me know."
Usher nodded once and Mireya said nothing more. The atmosphere fell into silence. The only sound for the next few moments was Usher's moaning as the pain continued.
Mireya remained patient. She did not move, proving her words that she would take care of Usher. Motionless, she sat without moving an inch.
Time passed, not insignificantly. Usher's moaning finally stopped. He no longer moaned in pain and now seemed to be sleeping soundly.
Mireya sighed with relief. "I'm glad I wasn't too late."
*
Usher was not sure how long he'd been asleep. In a brief moment of regained consciousness, he remembered that he had come home early that day because his business at the plantation didn't take much time. He had probably arrived around eleven in the morning.
The quarrel between Vione and Mireya welcomed Usher's return. They argued so much that he had to warn Vione. Then the pain hit him. Right after Mireya pushed him to break the pairing with Vione, the pain came, almost splitting his head.
Vione.
Usher blinked. He turned around to find Mireya sleeping nearby. Mireya had really taken care of him and had not even let go of his hand.
"Mireya."
Usher's hand moved, landing on Mireya's head. His thumb moved and stroked Mireya gently.
Mireya's sleep was disturbed. Her eyelids moved several times before she woke up completely.
"Usher," Mireya whispered happily. "Are you awake?"
Usher nodded.
"How are you feeling?"
Usher stood up and Mireya helped him sit up, leaning against the bed. "No more pain," he replied, cupping Mireya's face with one hand. "Thank you."
"Thank God. I feel relieved now. I don't want anything bad to happen to you, Usher."
"I'm fine. It was just a normal headache."
A regular headache with an extraordinary amount of pain. Frankly, Usher was not sure of his words. He had never had a headache this bad before. It was so painful that he thought his head would explode. Luckily, Mireya gave him the medicine in time.
"You still need to rest, Usher. I'll have the servants prepare meal for you."
Mireya's words made Usher turn around. He looked at the wall clock and opened his eyes wide. It could not be that he had slept so long, could it?
Mireya chuckled softly when she realized Usher's train of thought. "Indeed. You slept almost five hours. Aren't you hungry?"
"Oh! Now that I think about it," Usher said, rubbing his stomach. His forehead creased and he nodded. "It seems I am hungry."
"Wait a moment. The servants will bring your meal, and in the meantime, it looks as if I must go home."
Reflexively, Usher took Mireya's hand. "You want to go home?"
"Yes, Usher. I don't want to disturb your rest."
"You are not disturbing my rest. In fact, you're taking care of me."
Mireya smiled. "Thank you for thinking that way, but I think I need to rest as well."
Usher narrowed his eyes. He looked at Mireya with an uncertain look. Didn't Mireya often rest in The Palace? More precisely, in his room?
"Today has been exhausting for me, Usher. I need time to think about everything."
Usher's face changed. "Mireya, you don't mean—"
"I love you, Usher. You know that, but I can't stand being put down by Vione all the time. I just can't."
Usher could see the implicit wounds in Mireya's eyes. The serene look that Mireya always radiated was gone, and he knew exactly why.
"Forgive me, Mireya. I know that my words must have hurt you."
Mireya took a deep breath. She smiled, but it was obvious that she was in pain. "It's okay, Usher. I am wise enough to realize my position. I shouldn't expect something that will never be my destiny. I don't deserve to be at your side. I—"
"Who said that?" Usher interrupted quickly; his eyes fixed on Mireya. "Who said you don't deserve to be at my side?"
"Usher."
"You must know, Mireya. You are the woman I dream of. You are beautiful and you are strong."
Usher's unwavering gaze left Mireya astonished. Especially the words Usher spoke enchanted her for a moment.
"You love me, Usher. Yes, of course you love me. I am always at your side, I accompany you. I am valuable, unlike Vione, who doesn't even have claws."
A hint of a smile appeared on Usher's stern face and he nodded. "True. You know I love you very much, and I will prove it."
"Prove it?" Mireya blinked with a slowly increasing heartbeat. "How will you prove your love, Usher?"
"I will break my pairing with Vione."

Garth Morris had just finished his work five minutes ago. There was a proposal for the purchase of plantation goods that he had to review, followed by checking several messages that had piled up in Usher's email. A busy day, but it seemed he could not rest for a few hours.
His phone rang. Garth took the phone out of his pocket and answered it immediately.
"Hello, Alpha Usher."
"Come to The Palace immediately."
An order without hesitation. Garth did not even have time to express his compliance when the call was immediately ended on the other end.
It seemed to be something important.
Garth did not waste any time. He left the office immediately and drove to The Palace.
Fortunately, the road was not as busy as usual. Garth arrived at the palace about 40 minutes later and went straight to Usher's office.
"What's up, Alpha?"
Usher looked at the Beta standing at attention in front of him. "Go get Vione."
Garth had not expected Usher's order to have anything to do with Vione. He thought it had something to do with work or the problems of the pack.
"There's something important I need to tell Vione, but it turns out she left without telling me. It seems she went to her parents' house because she obviously has nowhere else to go."
Garth nodded with an uneasy feeling. Usher's behavior seemed unusual, so he furrowed his brow. "Understood, Alpha."
"Don't forget. After you pick her up, tell her to meet me immediately."
Garth gave one last obedient nod before leaving. Usher was left alone and decided to work on some tasks while waiting for Vione's arrival. Occasionally Usher glanced at his watch. Trying to immerse himself in work while waiting did not help at all. Waiting was still waiting, and he did not like it.
"Such childish behavior. After causing a ruckus, she's the one who leaves, pretending to be the victim," Usher grumbled, remembering Vione's attitude. He twirled the pen in his hand with an uncertain expression. "Is she going to complain to her adoptive parents?"
It would not make any difference, but Usher would not forget the fact that Vione's adoptive parents—Hilary Russell and Addy Roberto Munest—had a good relationship with his parents—Jemma Lumina Vale and the late Kendrick Thorne. They had worked at the Palace, and everyone liked them. So, he realized it was not strange that his parents had accepted Ayla's prophecy without a second thought.
Despite her obscure origins and lack of claws, Vione had been a popular shewolf. She had been bullied, especially during her childhood and adolescence, but that did not change the fact that she had a good relationship with everyone.
This made Usher uneasy. He wondered if Vione would complain to Jemma as well.
Hopefully not.
Usher might be an Alpha, but he never thought about getting into a fight with his own birth mother. Especially after the death of the previous Alpha, he just wanted to see Jemma live in peace. Losing a mate was not an easy thing, and Jemma had gone through unimaginably hard times. Now it was time for Jemma to find happiness in solitude.
The faint sound of the door opening caught Usher's attention. All his thoughts vanished as he saw Vione enter with an expressionless face.
Vione walked and Usher rose from his seat. They walked toward each other until they met in the middle of the room.
Both footsteps stopped. Both pairs of eyes locked on each other.
"Why did you go back to your parents' house?"
"I just didn't want to be a spectator of the indecent acts in this palace."
"Vione!"
Vione clenched her fists and tried to hold her ground. "Besides, isn't it a good thing? You and Mireya can be intimate without my interference."
Usher clenched his jaw. His eyes narrowed and his jaw hardened with each passing moment.
"Are you mocking me, Vione?"
"Are you offended?" Vione replied with a mocking expression. "Good, if you're offended. Besides, it seems that it's only you, the Alpha, who openly allows his affair to come to The Palace."
"Watch your words, Vione."
"I'll watch my words the day you watch your behavior, Usher. Do you know? I'm disgusted with you."
Usher's eyes widened. "What did you say? You're disgusted with me?"
"Yes. I'm disgusted with you. You're really disgusting."
"You're really disgusting, Vione. Don't you consider me your Alpha anymore?"
"Alpha?"
Vione repeated that one word and she grimaced. A moment later she burst into laughter, but her eyes showed pain. The laughter intensified, and the pain she felt became even more unbearable.
"I have always thought of you as my Alpha, Usher. I promised to devote myself to you, but I never thought this would happen to me."
Usher's anger was disturbed. The emotions caused by Vione's attitude were hindered by something he did not understand.
"V-Vione."
"To be honest, I've been wondering about that for a long time, Usher. Why?" Vione raised her chin as high as she could. She challenged Usher even though her eyes were starting to get hot. "Why did you accept me as your mate if you love Mireya?"
Damn it. The pain returned and Usher frowned, trying to bear it.
"You should have rejected the prophecy, Usher. You know that, right? What you're doing hurts me."
The pain rebelled. Usher growled, but Vione was unyielding.
"You really are heartless to me, Usher. Of all people, you're the one who understands my fears the best. Then you use them to hurt me."
Usher closed his eyes. Vione's words echoed in his head, intensifying the pain.
No. Something is wrong here.
Usher took a deep breath. He tried to calm himself and when he opened his eyes, he saw tears streaming down Vione's face.
Vione blinked. She tried to stop herself, but she could not. The tears welled up and flowed down her cheeks.
"You know I love you and you're hurting me."
Usher's growl exploded. His body lost control and he collapsed to the floor. His hand rose, trying to reach Vione. But Vione chose to walk away, wiping away the tears that continued to fall.
"V-Vione."
*
Vione ignored several pairs of sympathetic eyes that stared at her. It was not the first time; she had received such looks many times before. Being small, it was only natural for people to pity her.But this was different. It seemed that in the history of the Frostholm Pack, no Luna had ever suffered such a tragic fate. Usually they lived happily, cherished, and loved by everyone, not only by the pack but also by the Alpha.Unfortunately, that was not the case for Vione. The hopes and dreams that had filled her days after Ayla's prophecy were gone. Without the love and affection of the Alpha, she truly became a pitiful Luna. After arriving in her room, Vione let out all her sadness. She let out all the screams and tears she had been holding back. Her chest hurt and she thought she could not take it anymore.Maybe this was the end. Maybe it was time to give up.Vione could not take it anymore. She knew her limits and she had crossed them.It was not just the pitying looks people gave h
The morning sunlight poured in through the vents and tried to pierce the thickness of the curtains that still covered all the large windows in the room. Its brightness and warmth cast a beauty that should have been irresistible to anyone, including Vione.Slowly Vione opened her eyes. With the return of consciousness, a beautifully curved smile adorned her face. She let out a small sigh, and fleeting memories flashed through her mind.Usher and I....Vione paused for a moment. Last night had been beautiful, but she wondered if it was real or just a dream.Still fresh in Vione's mind, she and Usher had a fight. She cried and ran across the room. Her consciousness faded as exhaustion and sadness
The same morning repeated itself for the umpteenth time. Vione awoke without Usher at her side. Usher had left and she sighed as she rose from the bed. As she sat up, holding the blanket to her chest, she surveyed the aftermath of the chaos in the room—a testament to the passion of their love the night before. The thought of it brought up a myriad of flowers with different scents, all blooming simultaneously in Vione's chest. Her emotions soared, and she felt as if she could truly fly until she touched the ceiling. Unfortunately, the joy was interrupted when a trace of resentment managed to surface. Every once in a while, it seemed appropriate, not overly so, that Vione wanted to wake up in the morning in Usher's embrace. She wanted to start her day with Usher for breakfast, feel the warm kiss on his forehead, and open her eyes to see Usher's face first. But Vione realized that Usher was really busy. He got up early every morning to be on time for work. There were many responsibilit
"What do you mean, Mireya?"Mireya turned away. She looked at Usher, her raised hand pointing at Vione. "She, the Luna respected by the pack, is a low woman. She betrayed you, Usher. She betrayed you."Vione was stunned. She looked at Mireya with an incredulous expression, shook her head and then grimaced. "So, this is your next tactic, Mireya? Not content with taking Usher away from me, now you're trying to smear me?""Slander?" Mireya answered with a confident smile. "Do you think I should bother to slander you? When Usher himself loved me so deeply?" She shook her head. "No, Vione. I don't need to get my hands dirty because this is the reality of what happened."At this point, Vione could not understand Mireya's plan. As Mireya said, there was no point in accusing Vione anymore. In reality, she had already won Usher's heart and love without any additional scenarios.Nevertheless, Vione could not remain silent. She would not let Mireya accuse her of something she had never done."I
Vione thought that her unhappiness and suffering were enough. Despite the happiness she received from her adoptive parents and those who cared for her, there was still considerable sadness, mostly from those who often used her shortcomings as an object of ridicule. Still, she tried not to be sad as much as possible. After all, that's life. Happiness and sadness are always meant to be together, inseparable. The challenging journey of life had shaped Vione's heart. She was no longer easily hurt. She had gotten used to it. More wisely, she focused on those who loved her rather than those who hurt her. But she forgot that there is always an exception to everything. That exception was called Usher. But Vione had her defense. In the past, Usher belonged to the category of people who loved her. Usher was warm and always there for her. Then everything changed after they became a couple. Usher was no longer the Usher she knew. She began to think that Usher's kindness all along
What Addy and Hilary saw wasn't. The tears that fell, unnoticed by Vione, were real proof that she was truly devastated.Hilary pulled Vione close, gave her a warm hug, and allowed her to pour out all her sadness. He didn't offer any comforting words, just continued to rub Vione's back. Then he said, "We're here. You don't have to worry. We will always be there for you."At least being an adopted child and being found by parents like Addy and Hilary was not a bad thing. In fact, Vione was very grateful. Even with the embarrassing incident that had just happened, they were not afraid to stand up for Vione.Of course, news of Vione and Usher's separation spread throughout the pack. In addition, pack protocol required Garth to announce it. Everyone had to know that Vione was no longer the Luna, and many people made fun of her, especially when they learned the reason for her dismissal—Vione's alleged infidelity. It felt like the first time in the histor
"Wh-what? A coup?"Vione was shocked, as were Addy and Hilary. All the werewolves who had gathered at the Munest house were also surprised. They asked each other, but no one had an answer."I'm sure there's a misunderstanding here," Vione said, trying to stop the werewolves from taking Addy and Hilary. "They couldn't possibly be involved in a coup."But they all remained unmoved by her plea. Vione could not stop them from taking Addy and Hilary. Even when Addy and Hilary tried to defend themselves, no one believed them. They were truly treated as if they were in the midst of a coup.Vione didn't give up. She found Garth. She knew that Garth still respected her in some way. Even though she wasn't a Luna anymore, Garth had a certain respect for her.Unfortunately, what happened wasn't what she had hoped for. Garth stared at Vione with a regretful expression."Sorry, Vione. If this has to do with a coup against the Alpha, then I'm the one who s
The Frostholm Pack was in an uproar. It seemed not long ago that they had to deal with the turmoil caused by Vione's removal from the Luna post and the scandal of her affair. Now the pack was shocked again by even more sensational news—the possibility of a planned coup by the Munest family. The pack was restless. Indeed, the accusations of Vione's affair hid a greater mystery than meets the eye. The most frightening possibility, as Mireya had pointed out, was that the man had actually targeted Vione in order to exploit the Frostholm Pack's weaknesses. The execution of the plan did not go smoothly, however, as Vione's affair was discovered. Usher had decided to break their mating bond, and Vione returned to the Munest household. Now the only option was to take advantage of the situation. The cunning man attacked Addy and Hilary's psyche, shaken by Vione's unfortunate fate. He offered to work together to overthrow Usher's power.Addy and Hilary, griev
Vione couldn't answer Jemma's words. Her heart was truly touched and she fell silent, only able to look at Usher, knowing that everything Jemma had said was the undeniable truth. Pregnancy was always a happy announcement. But Vione's pregnancy was more than joy; it was a blessing. For Usher, Jemma, Rowena and the Frostholm Pack, Vione's pregnancy was the greatest gift the Moon Goddess had given them. So, it was no surprise that when the palace announced Vione's pregnancy, the entire pack rejoiced and celebrated everywhere. Without exception, the news spread to the farthest corners of the Frostholm Pack territory. Smiles and beaming eyes adorned the faces of every member of the pack. They continued to give thanks for all the good things that had happened to the pack—from their victory in the war to Vione's pregnancy—and they didn't forget to pray for Vione's wellbeing. Ayla, the Sacred Elder, made hasty preparations. She arranged for a blessing ceremony for Vione's pregnancy to be h
There was a bright, blinding light. It seemed to be the morning sun, its warmth soothing her soul. Vione wasn't alone. Next to her was Usher, always holding her hand. They were talking, laughing, when suddenly a scene made her eyes widen. "Sylvia, come back! Don't go too far! Oh, God! Silas, can you go after her?"Usher pulled Vione into his arms. "Don't worry, she won't get lost. They're smart kids." "Usher," Vione groaned, pressing her lips together and raising her hand to point. "That's too—" Vione frowned. Something was holding her hand. Something was stroking the back of her hand, squeezing her fingers. "U-Usher." "Vione? Are you awake?" Usher's voice echoed in her head, like the buzzing of a thousand bees, driving that beautiful memory from her mind. It made her slightly dizzy and she moaned softly. "Vione? Can you hear my voice?" Vione frowned and slowly opened her eyes. She saw Usher's face, filled with immeasurable relief. "Usher." "Oh, thank God," Usher whispered, k
The meeting was only ten minutes old—it had only just started—and the first presentation had only just been given, but Usher's concentration was already disturbed. He couldn't concentrate on the data being presented. His mind kept wandering back to Vione. He had tried to ignore it, but suddenly his heart was pounding with an unfamiliar rhythm.Usher held his breath. Vione. Had something happened to her?At the same time, Usher saw Garth reach into the inside pocket of his suit. He watched as Garth stepped out of the meeting to take a phone call and for some reason Usher was certain that the call had something to do with Vione.Usher's intuition was right. Immediately after the call, Garth approached him and whispered in his ear."Alpha, Cora just reported that Luna fainted at a banquet—"Usher immediately got up from his seat. He left and Garth quickly said, "The meeting will be postponed."Then Garth hurried after Usher. They left the office five minutes later, Garth driving as fast
Two days later Rowena was ready. With her was Cora, whom Usher had specially assigned to accompany her on her journey.Rowena cupped Vione's cheeks. "Don't worry, Vione. We'll see each other often. Besides, it's the only way I can make up for leaving you as a baby.""No, Mama." Vione held Rowena's hands. "You did it so I could live with other werewolves. I understand that."Still, Rowena's guilt remained. So, she promised to make up for it with happiness and togetherness in the future."I hope you take good care of yourself, Mama," Vione said, calming her heart. Then she took off the moon necklace she was wearing. She put the moon necklace into Rowena's hand. "Let me know if anything happens."Rowena nodded. "Of course."Vione and Usher watched Rowena leave, certain that this wasn't goodbye. In truth, they were just living apart. They would keep in touch. They would still meet and visit. So, everything would be fine. There was nothing to worry about. That was what Rowena believed too.
Vione's hope was the promise she had made to Ivan. After so much suffering and sacrifice, there was only one thing she wanted most: to live a peaceful life surrounded by those she loved—Usher, Jemma and Rowena. They were owed many happy days because of the tragedies that had unfolded over the years, along with the war. Now Vione simply wanted to repay that debt by enjoying their time together, especially with Rowena. For countless days, Vione had longed for the loving touch of her biological parents. Despite the fact that her life with Addy and Hilary had been happy and full of love, she could not deny that deep down there was a part of her that longed for the warmth and love of her real parents. And when she learned that Ivan was long gone, all her hopes were placed in Rowena.Vione wanted to experience the affection she had only imagined. She wanted to spend endless days with Rowena in the palace. But it seemed that Rowena had other thoughts than her own."W-what do you mean, Ma?" V
Silence. Ivan and Rowena both stood still, staring at Vione without blinking."I'm meeting Usher, Dad," Vione said again. She pouted as she continued, "We've been dating since the night of the Coming-of-Age Ceremony." Her face flushed, obviously embarrassed. "When we were celebrating at the palace, and that's when we..."Vione didn't finish her sentence, but both Ivan and Rowena understood. They could guess what had happened that night. But one thing was still unclear to them.Ivan cleared his throat. He rubbed his chin, looking puzzled. "Usher?" he asked. "Which Usher are you talking about?""Papa," Vione groaned, feeling even more helpless. She was completely embarrassed. "There's only one Usher I know, the one you both know, Usher Thorne."Ivan's mouth opened, but no words came out. He seemed genuinely shocked and needed a little more time to fully process the name Usher Thorne.Ivan stared at Vione. "Usher Thorne?"The doorbell rang at the same moment. Vione's eyes widened. She lo
A month had passed since the war against the Nimbria Pack, and now normal days were once again colouring the Frostholm territory. Everyone carried on with their activities as before, full of energy and joy. The children played and went to school without a trace of fear, while the adults worked diligently, occasionally breaking into light chatter and laughter. There were no worries. Fear and anxiety about the future had vanished, replaced by happy, vibrant faces. They knew that the danger that had loomed over them for years had been overcome. On the other hand, the peace that now surrounded the Frostholm Pack did not lull Usher into complacency. He refused to become arrogant. Instead, the tragedy that had befallen the Nimbria Pack had taught him many lessons. He would not be careless and would make sure that this would never happen again. As a basis for preventive measures, Berg continued to increase security throughout the territory. Inspections of outsiders became more thorough and r
A heavy silence had fallen over the Frostholm territory since the night before. The area was truly desolate, with no sign of the Frostholm pack except for Berg and the guards stationed everywhere to protect the borders and the palace. The rest of the pack had evacuated to Amerotha Forest, hiding under the protection of Rowena's magic. The tension was palpable. The members of the pack seemed restless, their minds filled with fear, even though their safety was guaranteed within the forest. They knew that this security did not extend to those fighting in the war; there was no guarantee of safety for them.No one could close their eyes. They couldn't even stay in their tents. Instead, they chose to gather together and pray without ceasing.Hope poured from the depths of their hearts. Every prayer was accompanied by sincerity, and many shed tears. Their sorrow ran deep, and the Amerotha Forest could feel it.A blue-golden light slowly emerged, flowing from the ground and spreading everywhe
One thing Usher would remember for the rest of his life was that war never brought anything good. On the contrary, only bad things came out of war—death, pain, loss, suffering. For this reason, he would do everything in his power to ensure that there would be no more wars in the future—at least not in his lifetime—even if it meant making extreme choices.Usher hated war and he hated killing, but this time he put those feelings aside to ensure the safety of the Frostholm Pack. He had learned from experience that Kendrick's compassion could never touch the humanity of the Nimbria Pack. In truth, greed had blinded the Nimbria Pack, causing them to ignore the opportunity presented by the Frostholm Pack. Worse still, the Nimbria Pack saw Kendrick's decision as a sign of weakness, leading them to attack again whenever they had the chance. So, this time, Usher abandoned all compassion and humanity. The Nimbria Pack didn't deserve it. Instead, he would make sure that the Nimbria Pack felt all
