Toby was once again startled awake, this time luckily it wasn't because someone screamed. Instead it was a pillow smacking him in the head a few times.

He groaned as he finally built up the energy to look up at whoever decided to annoy him. Once he saw who it was he rolled his eyes and pushed his head back into his pillow. Of course he should've known it would be Leo, who else would it be?

"Come on Toby! Get up!" Leo yelled enthusiastically and Toby grimaced and how he was such a morning person. Reluctantly sighing and giving in, Toby sat up knowing that Leo wouldn't go away anytime soon.

"What do you want?" He mumbled glaring at his best friend.

"I don't know, I'm just bored" Leo replied, flopping down next to where Toby was sitting. As he looked down at his friend who was now laying next to him, Toby couldn't help but to glare and punch him in the shoulder.

"Is that seriously why you decided to wake me up and god knows what time?" Toby's voice may have sounded mean and rude to anyone else, but to Leo it was just a playful tone. The two of them both knew that neither could ever actually be mean in a serious way.

"It's 10am Tobs-" Leo deadpanned, once Toby heard that his eyes widened

"-so get up, I've decided we're going to Eliza's bakery" and just like that, with a nod of his as if he was agreeing with himself, Leo had walked back out of Toby's room.

Still staring at the spot his friend had just abandoned Toby sighed and began to get up for the day. His mind was still slightly preoccupied with the day be fore's events but he tried not to let that get to him as he dressed in his uniform, grabbed his sword and headed out to join Leo.

"Took you long enough" The blonde joked as Toby joined his side.

No more words were exchanged as the two made their way to the bakery. They didn't need to say anything to enjoy each other's company.

The walk to Eliza's was short and easy, usually it would take the two of them longer to get there as people would stop them to ask about current national affairs but since it was later than when they would normally go, there wasn't anyone about.

Lamarie was very much a working nation, everyone worked and helped each other out, it was self-sustaining and didn't need any outside trades, which was pretty impressive.

The cute little bakery that sat in between two other shops stood out in more ways than one. There was a large glass window that displayed freshly made pastries and goodies which made anyone's mouth water.

The lights that were inside the bakery made it give out a warm glow, even in the daytime. It was just overall welcoming and the two boys often found themselves there after a stressful day of work.

Leo opened the door and entered first, confidently striding into the business with his head held high. Toby on the other hand slid into the bakery almost unnoticed behind his extravagant friend.

"Leo! Toby!" Eliza smiled kindly as she looked up after hearing the welcoming ding of the entry bell.

Toby could feel himself become less tense just at the sight of his friend and her kind face. She was effortlessly calming, her strawberry blonde hair and crystal blue eyes were soft and relaxing to the eye.

"Hey Eliza" Leo responded as he went up to the counter she was standing behind. Toby followed suit, leaning against the counter watching as the other two interacted.

"What can I do for you boys today?" Toby zoned out of the conversation for a minute to focus on what sweets she had to offer.

There were a few cakes, cookies and pastries but Toby's eyes fixated onto the red velvet cupcake, it was his favorite. The others must've noticed him salivating over the treat.

"I assume one red velvet cupcake and one gingerbread cookie" Eliza laughed as both boys immediately nodded, they had done this so often now it was predictable.

Toby watched as Eliza grabbed the biggest cupcake and cookie, placing them carefully into a small box and sealing it shut. Leo went to grab money to pay her but Eliza speaking cut him off.

"No need, it's on the house" Eliza informed them, Toby tilted his head slightly and furrowed his eyebrows, confused at why she'd do that, it wasn't either of their birthdays. "I think we all could use a little treat" Eliza explained, noticing both boys were confused. That didn't help to clear their confusion much, but neither would complain.

"Thank you" Toby smiled before grabbing the box and turning around to walk out, Leo not too far behind him.

"So where to next?" He asked as Leo joined him outside the shop.

"The nearest bench, I'm starving" Leo licked his lips as he eyed the box, Toby gripping it tighter, protecting his cupcake.

He looked around for a second before spotting a bench and going to sit down. Once they were both comfy he opened the box slowly, like he was handling something extremely valuable. Handing Leo his cookie, Toby quickly dug into his cupcake, enjoying every bite of the amazing red delight.

"Hey Tobs, can I ask you something?" Leo asked quietly after a while.

Toby turned to look at him as he finished his food and noticed Leo had already finished and was slowly wiping away any last crumbs left on him. Toby just raised an eyebrow at him, his mouth full with cake and not wanting to be rude to not answer, he hoped Leo would get the message.

"Yesterday Caleb said he wanted to play dirty-" Leo began. Toby cringed internally at the reminder of the day before, it was the first time he had ever seen Caleb act so...crazy, it was like he wasn't all there. The new tactic was slightly concerning but Toby was conflicted with whether he agreed with it or not.

"-hypothetically, if we were to sneak into Rika and trash their weapons storage, would you help me?" Leo finished and it took Toby a minute to process what he actually said.

Obviously Leo was alright with playing dirty but his plan wasn't actually that bad. Unlike Rika's idea which could've harmed someone, this idea didn't involve anybody else. Even though Toby agreed that the war was the only way to go, he still didn't agree with harming other human beings, no matter who they are and what they've done.

"Hypothetically, I would" Toby said, he knew this situation wasn't actually hypothetical. It was a very real plan Leo had come up with but they needed to start making some type of impact in this war.

"Tomorrow night?" Leo questioned, staring into Toby's eyes for his confirmation for when they'd carry this attack out.

"Tomorrow night."

---

Rowan couldn't believe the letter she just received. There is a local travelling merchant who she became acquainted with one day when he got lost in the forest, at the time Rowan had been showing a friend where she was living just in case they needed help.

After saving the merchant they became friends and he would often bring her letters that her friend back in another nation would send. It was an easy and nice way to keep open communication with some of her friends.

I just can't stay here, it's haunting me.

The contents of the letter weren't just haunting her friend, Miles, but now haunted her. How helpless she felt in that moment was too much to even describe.

She had known him for years, they lived in the same town throughout their childhoods and clung to each other for support. It seemed now that all the years he had spent helping her were going to be returned.

I couldn't stop her.

It killed Rowan to know exactly how he felt, she really did. Miles was one of the kindest and caring people she had ever met and it enraged her to know someone took advantage of that.

It was reassuring for her though that Miles turned to her in his hours of need and she was thankful her promising him anything fully translated over. She recalls promising to him many years ago that she would do anything for him and so far, she hasn't broken it.

I'll be arriving in a couple days

Rowan actually felt pretty excited to be having Miles staying with her. Even with all the entertainment and drama that went on around her, having another human being that she could talk to would be fun. She just had to get ready for his arrival, and to get ready to fill him in on the nations clashing around them. She prayed that him coming here would be a good idea and not backfire on them. Who knows what'll happen.

Rowan was on edge the whole day, the letter last night completely threw her off. She'd prepared more for Miles' arrival later though as right now she needed to check on the nations, she wanted to see if anything else had happened. Or if it looked like anything was about to happen. Rika was always her first option to go too, it was the furthest away from her home so she could stop at Lamarie on her way back. The forest was eerily quiet today, usually being filled with the sounds of animals and nature buzzing around her, it was odd that it was so silent. It didn't even look as pretty and vibrant as usual, the bright green grass and leaves looked muted and like they were dying. What was going on? She had no idea. It felt unsettling so she sped her pace up until she ar

Everything hit the ceiling as soon as the sun came up. Toby found himself rudely awakened for the third day in a row, this time by hearing people yelling. He acted quickly once again, getting up and grabbing his sword before running outside. Outside the air felt off. Instead of the nice, calming atmosphere of his nation it was replaced with a hostile and tense one."You!" Daniel seethed pointing at Toby as he walked up to Caleb's side.Caleb, Toby and Maya were standing opposite Daniel, Ethan and Wyatt. All three of the enemies looked pissed off and their attention was solely on Toby who began to fidget nervously. Caleb must've noticed his distress as he protectively took a step in front of him. It calmed Toby down slightly but he was still on edge."You better hand that little p

Rowan made it back to her house when the sun began to set. She had been gone for longer than she had expected so she hoped Leo hadn't woken up and left. He wasn't in any fit state to be wandering around the cave systems or the forest. She was relieved to see him still laying on the bed, he was awake but still here. "Thank you for helping me, whoever you are" Leo said, half-serious half-jokey. Rowan smiled, he still had his humour which was good. She watched as he became less tense after she smiled, he was probably still on guard slightly given she was a complete stranger. "Can you turn over for me?" She asked nicely, it surprised her how kind her voice sounded. Leo did as asked and turned over so Rowan could remove the bandages off him to check his wound. It was healing well so far but it'd take at least two weeks for him to be back u

After spending a little longer on the beach Rowan decided it was time for her to head home. She was pretty tired by now so the main thing on her mind was her bed. The walk back was pretty normal to begin with but it soon took a turn. A sound of a stick breaking nearby was the first thing that caught her attention. She stopped in her tracks, glancing around to see what could've caused the sound. There was nothing, no sign of any movement but Rowan knew there was something out there. It could've just been an animal but it left her feeling paranoid. Her mind screamed at her to move, that this wasn't an animal and it wasn't Sky coming back, this was something else- someone else. Two men emerged from the trees, both wearing Lamarie uniforms. Why the hell were they out h

Toby was pacing. He was stressed. Not only did they need to find Leo they also had discovered an unidentified person in the forest. The stranger could be one of Jon's men out searching for Leo or they could just be some poor traveller who found themselves in the wrong forest and the wrong time. Until they could figure out which one the person was they'd all be on high alert. This was something Caleb was now trying to deal with, after all if they did work for Jon they may find Leo or have already found Leo, though that wasn't something Toby was ready to admit. Samuel was beating himself up for letting them get away but when they neared the cliff side all four of them thought there was surely nowhere else to go. That was the only thing that made him believe this person was used to the forest, they knew exactly where they cou

Rowan was up early once again. Both boys were still asleep, probably exhausted. Miles because of all the travelling and Leo since he pushed his shoulder pretty far yesterday. She sympathised with the both of them and decided to let them sleep in. She decided she'd go check on Lamarie and Rika, there hadn't been any recent war movements so she was pretty curious on what was happening. She prepared some food for Leo and Miles just in case they woke up while she was out. She wrote a small note, leaving it by the food explaining where she'd gone and that she planned to take them all somewhere once she returned. Even with how long Leo had been here, she hadn't actually gotten to know him that well and with Miles' arrival she wanted the three of them to get on. Miles needed that.

Well Toby had."All we want to know is why did you involve Katra-" Caleb cleared his throat awkwardly, trying to keep the conversation going "-and how they plan to get involved" he finished, regaining his calm composure as he stared Jon down."Katra is an ally of mine, so of course I would involve them in any conflict Rika was in. The Katrian leader asked to get involved, they seem very...interested in your land" Jon said, at first he seemed like he was genuinely answering their question.

That was a new thing she'd learnt about Leo, when he was happy and excited he'd use hand gestures or well gestures in general to help him describe what he was talking about. She had had to dodge his hands a few times as he threw them out quickly in excitement. "Same" she responded, holding back her laughter as he skipped a head to go jump on Miles. He didn't actually jump on him, more like pretended he would, which caught Miles off guard causing the both of them to trip over and have to catch themselves. "You idiot" Miles hissed, pushing Leo away from him as he began to become overly affectionate.

“I’m sorry Ro! I didn’t mean too!” Leo apologised once again as Rowan just turned away from him. Giving him the silent treatment. She wasn’t actually annoyed at him for interrupting her and Sky, she just found it funny annoying him like this. “What happened?” Marcel asked, coming up from behind them. Both Rowan and Leo immediately straightened up and exchanged a glance. “Nothing” they simultaneously said before walking further into the town hall. They had all agreed to meet there last night after Leo and Rowan had come back from the beach. Leo wanted to talk about Miles, something Toby had brought up to him about Miles being a bit childish. Rowan was a little harsh and told Leo that Toby needed to mind his own business but luckily it didn’t seem to affect Leo too much as he just carried on feeling bad for interrupting her and Sky. "Rowan!" A frantic Leo yelled while running into the room she was staying in. He was quick to wake her up. He was out of breath and his eyes darted around the room signalling he was nervous."What happened?" she went into instant protector mode. Her eyes scanned his body, making sure he wasn't injured in any way. By the look of him, externally he seemed completely fine. The next thought in her head was Miles but as she glanced over to the bed he had been staying in she was happy to see him groggily sat up. Probably after just waking up."Jon's here" Was all Leo said before grabbing her arm and dragging her all the way to the front gate. Rowan had to make sure Miles was followed, she didn't really want either of them anywhere near Jon but she didn't want to leave them alone and vulnerable either. A double edged sword. It didn't help ease any of the tension in fact it almost made it worse and Toby couldn't help but cringe back into his chair and as he watched Leo's nostrils flare, a clear sign he was angry- no pissed off."What the fuck is wrong with you all! I stayed away to try and protect you!" Leo yelled out and Toby watched as Rowan leant forward, grabbing his arm to hold him back but also to calm him down at the same time. It worked and Toby wished he was the one there instead."I know you thought what you did was right and you may have had some...outside persuasion- but you
