Procedure
Cadence had forgotten to check with Cass to see if her appointment was actually at 1:00, but Cadence assumed it couldn’t be any earlier than that. However, when she walked into the building where Jamie’s operating room was located, she could see a small crowd of familiar faces outside of the room in the hallway. Brandon was pacing back and forth, a worried look interrupted only long enough to acknowledge her with a head bob. His dad was leaning against the wall on the opposite side from the operating room, and Christian had his face glued to the small window in the door.
“You know, you could probably see better through Jamie’s IAC,” she mumbled as she approached. “Why didn’t anyone call me?”
“She just got here,” Brandon replied quietly. “She didn’t tell any of us. Jamie decided to go ahead and put her under and then let us know.”
“I told him you had an important lunch date.&rdquo

Brandon stared at Cassidy for a full five minutes before her eyelids began to flicker. It seemed to take a couple of more minutes after that before she was awake. Even though he trusted Jamie and was sure she was fine, it was a relief to have her conscious again. “Hey, there,” he said quietly, once she was looking up at him.“Hey,” Cassidy said, looking a little confused. “Where’s Jamie?”“Oh, he said I could do the procedure,” Brandon teased. “I took out your kidneys. There were two chairs positioned in front of Jamie’s desk, and for a moment, Cadence foresaw bickering between Christian and Elliott as to who deserved to sit in the one she didn’t occupy herself—trusting neither of them would want her to stand—until Jamie, also likely envisioning the problem, picked up another chair by the door and carried it with him to the desk where he set it so that all three of them would have a place to rest. Since this one was slightly different than the other two, Cadence chose to sit there so that there could be no discussion of who got the better seat. She imagined this was what having children must be like and hoped these two alleged adults could at least sit near each other and not resort to eye poking or hand slapping.Jamie discarded his lab coat and went around and sat behind the desk. The maps all over the conference room table immediately drew his attention the second Aaron entered the office he shared with Cadence, but since he knew paying them any mind at all would mean he’d have to pull himself away from them once Ashley arrived, he somehow managed to walk past them to his desk.The new blonde Hunter had only completed her training a few weeks ago, but she was already proving her value.
