Chapter 29: THE RESCUE

Rake's POV

I could feel the rage burning in my chest. The moment Mima was taken, I went wild. I didn’t think so. Didn’t plan. I just moved, tearing through the castle, demanding answers that no one could give me. My wolf pushed at my skin, clawing to get out, and I let him... just a little.

The memory of her voice screaming out my name before she disappeared right in front of me kept playing over and over in my head. The figure that held on to her, I would find him and snap his neck.

I seethed.

I needed to find her. I needed to make sure she was okay. My mind wouldn’t let go of the fear that gripped me when I realized she was gone.

Tracking the remnants of the portal took longer than I’d hoped, the researchers group in my pack found it difficult to determine what kind of transportation stone it was and where the destination was.

Since I also hadn't marked Mima, I couldn't talk to her through the mind link. I rubbed my forehead soothing the headache I was having.

Mate.

Rake’s POVI didn’t leave her side. Not for a moment. When I brought Mima back to the pack house, I laid her in my bed. The healer examined her, but there was nothing to explain what had happened. No marks, no wounds. Her skin was smooth. She only had chars on her but after cleaning her up, she was fine. But something inside me screamed that something had changed.I paced the room, my wolf anxious, pushing against my chest. Something was wrong. I couldn’t place it, but I could feel it, her scent had altered. I could put my finger on it but I just knew that something was not the same anymore. The pack was restless. The warriors muttered behind my back, questioning what had happened, why she was taken and why she returned to this state. They were already suspicious of the state she was in when I brought her in, but now, they're more curious. They wanted answers I didn’t have. I couldn’t give them answers because I didn’t understand this either.“Stay away,” I snapped when one of the war

Mima's POVI had lied to Rake.I had to.Why did you lie to mate?“So now you want to talk to me? You've kept me shut out from reaching you all this while. I told one little lie and you're coming for me?”Mate needs truth.“Stop it, okay? It's not safe for him to know.”I remembered every single thing that had happened to me. From the abduction in my room to destroying the room I was almost sacrificed in. What I didn't remember was how I got back to Rake's pack or how he had gotten there.I told mate to come.“Even after I told you not to several times? I handled it. Now there's a target on his back, too, if those people are still alive.” I sighed as I ran my hand through my tangled mess of hair.I looked at myself in the mirror; I didn't look any different. Passing out for three days did bring colour back to my skin but I was skinnier. My tummy rumbled as if it could hear my thoughts. I chuckled as I got into the shower and got myself ready.By the time I was getting out of the bathr

Rake's POV“I would like to request more time before Mima introduces herself to the pack and for us to mate. She is not ready yet.” I said as I sat on the throne looking down at all the elders in their seats.A larger percentage of them were dissatisfied with the fact that I found my mate and they are yet to know who she is or what she even looked like. After not meeting my mate for years, many of the elders started getting greedy and setting me up with their daughters or nieces or even their cousins because of the power of a Luna.Once Mima came into the picture, they saw her as a threat to their big plans. At first, they thought she was fake, so they didn't think too much about it, but my soldiers have been spreading news of meeting her. They have been agitated ever since. They have finally found their voice and now want to use the powers of the elders to subdue me but they must have forgotten who owns the pack and who rules over them.“Rake, my dear. It is tradition that a week aft

Mima's POV“Why hasn't he come to see me yet, Daria?” I sulked as I lay on Daria’s lap.She had offered to wash my hair, and after drying it, she insisted on oiling my scalp. The gentle pressure of her fingers massaging my head was soothing, yet it did little to distract me from the frustration gnawing at my chest.Since the day Rake found me in the lake, he had refused to see me. He didn’t even speak to me that day either. No explanation, no confrontation, just avoidance. It pissed me off that he refused to listen to what I had to say.Daria had been by my side ever since then. More than just a maid, she had become like a sister to me. We had spent countless nights talking about everything and anything, whispering stories to each other when sleep evaded us.Daria wasn’t originally from this pack. Her home had been destroyed, and she was taken captive with her younger brother, similar to what had happened to me. But unlike me, she had managed to escape. That was when she met Rake, wan

Mima’s POV“Where are we going?” I asked for the tenth time as Rake dragged me forward.“Stop asking. I wouldn’t answer no matter how many times you ask, you know.”I huffed in frustration. “Fine.”“Don’t be so sulky, you’ll see soon enough.” He chuckled as we continued walking, holding my hand firmer. We finally arrived at the soldiers’ building. I hadn’t been here before, but with the number of broad, muscular men walking around in uniforms, I could tell this was their turf. The scent of sweat and metal filled the air, a sign of intense training. Every person we passed bowed slightly with small murmurs of ‘Alpha and Luna.’I still wasn’t used to it. The way people looked at me with respect, acknowledging me as their Luna, as if I truly belonged here. It felt strange, almost unreal.“Where is she?” Rake asked, stopping in front of a soldier who looked to be of higher rank than the others. The man straightened immediately. “Greetings, Alpha. She’s in room 113. The second door on the l

Rake's POVI stood outside of the room with a smile on my face. Mima was probably going to be pissed that I kept this from her for so long, but she would be happy, too, and if she was angry, I'd just find a way to appease her.My mind went back to how enthralling she had looked earlier and my heart raced.“Alpha. I'm sorry but I would like to have a word with you.” One of my subordinates called out to me. I nodded at him and followed him to one of the equipment rooms.“We finally got wind of the people that you had described.”At the mention of his words, my face immediately turned into a frown.“Tell me.”“They don't exist on the map.” He said before sucking in a breath and gauging my reaction.“What?! What do you mean by they don't exist on the map?” I asked fuming.“We couldn't find any trace about them from anybody. They didn't have a specific location. I asked around and some people did know them. Some had seen them lurking around in the shadows of their pack or walking in broad

Mima's POVI woke up to find that I was alone in my room.Rake must have left to do some work. I felt better, my nightmares had even reduced. I could think straight without remembering my past and I was enjoying my stay in this pack.Everything felt just like how it was before my parents died. I felt a whole lot better.I got out of bed and looked out the window. It was nighttime, and the moon shone so brightly into my room. The moon was beautiful tonight, and I just couldn't take my eyes off it. Then I heard it.“Child.”“Who is there?” I said into the empty room. Was I about to be kidnapped again?I looked around and almost turned my room upside down looking for the voice. By the time I was done, my room had looked as though a tornado had come through it.“Be calm child.”“Stop playing tricks on me, who are you?” I screamed. “The lake, come to the lake.”“No, no you're trying to kill me. Mima’s POVCold. It wrapped around me like a firm hand, squeezing the breath from my lungs. My limbs refused to move, trapped in the unnatural pull of the lake. Panic clawed at my chest. I tried to fight or break free, But I couldn't.My body wasn’t mine anymore. My fingers twitched uselessly as the water dragged me deeper. The glow beneath me pulsed, silver and hypnotic, swirling like something alive. The Moon Goddess said my powers were sealed. Was this them breaking free?I opened my mouth to scream, but only bubbles escaped. Suddenly, the light exploded.A force just like I had felt that night surged through my body, burning and freezing at the same time. My skin prickled, my veins pulsed with raw energy, and my head snapped back as pain lanced through my skull.A voice whispered through the water. "Awaken." The world around me shifted.I wasn't in the lake anymore.I stood in a vast, silver-lit void. The ground beneath me wasn’t solid, but I didn't sink. My breath came in sharp g

Mima's POV "I work for those that kidnapped you." She said. Her reply shocked me. I would have never thought that those are the people she worked for. "I don't understand..." I commented and she looked at me with empty eyes. "I'm not human. I at least was truthful in that part. Viktor and his people made me. Those people are also Viktor's people but they want the woman in the prophecy for different reasons." "What are their reason?" I asked and she seemed sceptical to tell me."Viktor wants the powers for himself. He wants to take the power for him while the others want to sacrifice her to their God for them all to have more powers. So it's more like one wants all for himself and the others want for themselves." I nodded understanding what she meant. So I was basically in trouble from two groups then. "Do the sacrificial people know?" I asked her."Know about what?" She replied, looking confused. "About Viktor's plans." "They don't... I don't know how Viktor convinced them tha

Mima's POV Her body shook as she vigorously shook her head. I looked to one of the guards, give me the key to her cell.He nodded and began to go through his keys."NO." She yelled. "Don't let that psycho bitch in here. She would kill me." She said, seeming hysterical. She stood up and rushed to the end of the gate of her cell, closer to where the guard was. "You can't do it. She'll kill me. See what she did to my hand." She raised her hand, shoving it in his face but the guard did pay mind to her still shuffling for the keys. She grabbed him and he turned quickly, raised the stun gun I didn't know he was holding and zapped her."Stay back you dirty bitch." He said, a little undertone of amusement in his voice. All I saw was red. Before I knew it, I was in front of him and slapped him across the face eating gasps from the other inmates."Who the hell legalised stun guns for you in the prison cell? Aren't the silver coated chains and the guns in your hands enough for you? And those a

Mima's POV "Yeah..." I replied to her.She looked around in shock and I could tell that she was panicking. "Calm down, please Bri." I called out to her but she wasn't paying any attention to me. Beck, rose from his crouched position and placed his paw on her hand and she turned sharply to him. She smiled at him and placed her other hand over her chest, slowly calming down. "So these shadows... What do they do? Like what are the capable of?" She asked."Well, from all the spies that we have caught so far, we noticed that they're visisbly stronger that werewolves. The spies aren't as strong as the soldiers we fought off the other day though but they're stronger than the average werewolf so imagine how strong the soldiers would be." This freaked her out and I could recognise the girlish side in her under her gothic outfit. "So... What about how I felt towards him?" She mentioned and it didn't take me long to think that one through."I was kidnapped once. By a bunch that I think are

You might think that things aren't just going well for now in your pack, but that's not it. They're in every sector and so far, we caught them in the most important sectors in our pack. The farm, the lab and the soldiers.”The room mumbled, each person looking more concerned than the last, except those two.“How can we believe what you are saying?” One of the Alphas ask.“I knew one of you would ask. I mean, you can't simply believe something this huge and serious without wanting proof.” Rake chuckled. He signalled to Beck and Beck walked out. Do they know each other?Dylan glanced at her and there is no form of recognition in his eyes.So Dylan is oblivious to the whole thing but Stephanie knows?“This here, is a woman that almost tricked us. Mima's POVThe room went back into discussing with one another and seconds later the man stepped in with a smile on his face. Sheesh, he must really love his daughter. I thought to myself because this brooding man just freaking smiled. I turned to see Brent fidgeting where he stood. He looked like he was uneasy as if something was bothering him.I thought back to last night and maybe being in a room filled with couples was doing so well for him.I sighed as I called out to him."Brent? Are you okay?" His eyes turned to mine sharply and he visibly inhaled. His eyes darted around the room and he seemed to fidget the more. This made me ore worried. "Brent? Is everything alright?" My voice is slightly raised now and it alarms Rake. Rake turned to face us and raised his brow."What's wrong?" He asked me."I don't know. Brent is acting weird." The brooding man was still walking in with his daughter and she hasn't really fully entered the room yet so she wasn't noticeable to us. They w

Mima’s POVI was in my room, petting Kia's head as he laid on my lap. He wasn't too happy that we were busy all day and he had to spend the day at the farm during the meeting with Eve. I thought he wouldn't mind but apparently he prefers to be joined at my hip. Three knocks sounded at the door. "Come in." I called out and Beck walked in. "Hey." He said, guilty rubbing the back of his head as he approached me. I turned my face away from him. "Have all the guests gotten a room to stay in?" I asked."Yes, they have." "Good, you can leave." I told him, still angry at how he had been reacting for the past few days. He's either always angry at something and takes it out on others."I'm sorry... That's what I came here to say. I know I have been acting out of line. My anger has been really bad and..." He takes in a sharp breath. "I just wanted to apologize. I know how much you didn't like that." I turned to face him and looked away. I placed Kia on the bed and walked towards Beck with

Mima's POV “Maybe we should just make lines in front of Rake and I? Men to him. Women to me. Is that fine with everyone?” I asked and they nodded. Stephanie still looked so uncomfortable sitting there. Plus, I found that black pendant in the place she kidnapped me. So she probably knows something about them right? Let's not forget the suspicious people she wanted to sell Zahra to and why Kia was afraid of her. What are you hiding. Stephanie?” I thought as I stared intently at her.“Okay, Alpha's to me. Luna's to my Luna.” Rake repeated and they all got up walking towards the both of us.I seeped my powers into the gloves and got ready to attend to them.“Stephanie.” I called out to her and she flinched. Even Dylan was looking at her weirdly. “Ye–yes?” She replied, trying to look as normal as possible but faking it to that extent isn't fooling anybody. “Why don't you come up first?” “No, no. Let everyone else go first.” She pushed on but I just shook my head laughing.“ If you hav

He held Dylan by the collar, lifting him slightly off the floor, his canines bared and his eyes glowing with rage. Dylan, to his credit, didn’t look scared, just annoyed and slightly amused?"Let. Him. Go." I repeated, louder this time, stepping between the two.Beck looked at me and sighed before slowly letting Dylan go and stepping back.“What is wrong with you?” I yelled at Beck but he scrunched up his face and turned away from me.In the corner of my eyes, I see Stephanie running up to Dylan and touching him as a form of comfort but Dylan shrugged her off. Stephanie tried to hide the embarrassment she felt but I was pretty sure that everyone in the room had already seen it. “Can someone explain what the hell is going on or was going on?” Rake asked and one of the men that was part of those trying to separate them spoke up.“Alpha Dylan here thought it was wr

Mima's POV As Zahra closed the door behind us, I gently placed my hands on the woman's chest. My powers stirred, responding to the urgency of the situation. I focused my energy, and a soft, golden glow emanated from my palms as I closed my eyes to concentrate. The woman's wounds began to heal and she stopped coughing.Good, it's working. I focused more and I could feel myself getting weaker. We need information and I had already promised her husband that she'll be healed. I needed to honour that at least. After a while, I could feel that she was better so I stepped back and opened my eyes. The woman's breathing was even now and she looked better."Thank goddess," Zahra whispered, letting out a breath, her eyes fixed on the woman. She must have felt just as burdened as I was.I nodded, my gaze still on our patient. "We need to find out more about her involvement with the Shadows. See if we can extract any information before..."The woman's eyes fluttered open, and she gazed up at u
