"Clear a path!" I quickly follow after the group of medics, lead by Killian who has still refused to put May down since she collapsed.

I try my hardest to ignore the feeling of hundreds of eyes glaring at me, but it's hard when literally everyone in my pack is shooting daggers at me as I follow the group out of the meeting hall. I don't understand why everyone is acting like I've done something? I had been on stage with her, I could have just as easily been the one to get crushed. I can see the camera men turning to follow after us, shouting questions about what happened as we pass.

We race towards the pack's medical clinic, which is luckily only half a mile or so away from the meeting hall. If you broke a finger, needed cough syrup, or needed a heart transplant, for this pack, this was where all that happened.

I slow a little when I see the building coming into view, letting the group enter ahead of me before following in after. This building is set up like a very small hospital, a few rooms for long staying visits, a dozen or so cubicles with privacy curtains, and I knew there was an operation room and morgue here, as well.

My ears prickle a little when I walk by the small reception desk where two women sat talking quietly between themselves. They were talking about May, I think.

"That was the one who got in between the Alpha and Luna of the Crest pack, right?"

"That's what I heard. Can you believe that? Going after a married and mated man? And from what I'd seen with her and Luna so far-" They stop quickly when they realize I'm walking past them, and can definitely hear what they're saying.

"Luna." The woman who'd stopped talking says quickly, standing up and bowing her head a little.

"Where have they gone?" I ask instead of continuing the gossip train.

"To a room, the doctor is examining her." She gestures towards where I know the nice rooms are, and I nod before taking off that way.

"Killian!" I call when I turn the corner and see him leaning against the wall outside a door. I stop a little when he snaps to look at me, and his gaze holds an emotion I'd never seen from him before, not directed towards me, at least.

Hatred.

"What the hell happened today, Everly? What was that?" I furrow my brow when he quickly approaches me, and I actually yelp in surprise when he suddenly pushes me against the wall and holds me in place with his arm across my declate.

"What are you talking about? You're not suggesting I had something to do with this, are you?"

"You're Luna, Everly. And the one who organized this whole swearing in ceremony bullshit!"

Why the hell is he acting like it was a waste of time when he was the one who asked me to put the damn thing together? Why am I being made out to be the bad guy here when I was just doing what I always did?

My job.

"Look, Killian. I don't know what happened today, I really don't. But I can promise you one thing, I would never do something like that. You have to believe me." I look into my husband's eyes, begging him to remember who he was talking to.

His wife. The woman he was supposed to love and be loyal too.

"We've yet to actually investigate, so we'll have to wait to see what actually happened."

"Hm." He grunts, backing away a little. I let out a breath and move away from the wall. He also moves back to where he'd been leaning before, resting his head back and closing his eyes. An eerie silence spreads between us.

It's another hour before the doctor finally emerges from the room. His eyes immediately find the Alpha's, where he smiles and nods before speaking.

"She's okay. A bit banged up, but no serious injuries."

"Oh thank you." He sighs and grins at the doctor, leaning forward to shake his hand. I crinkle my brow at how happy this news has made him.

"She's asked to see you." I'm a little surprised when I look up and find the doctor looking at me instead of Killian.

"Oh?" I raise a brow. The doctor nods, shakes Killian's hand one last time, and walks off.

I move to enter the room, but am stopped by Killian placing a hand on my shoulder.

"Remember your place as Luna to this pack." He says to me before removing his hand and walking off as well.

He's right.

I should remember who I am, and who I'm married to, and what stands to be lost and gained if Killian is stolen from me.

With that thought in mind, I dug into my bra and pulled out my phone I'd stashed in there, since this dress had no pockets. I open my camera app, click record, and stick it back in my bra.

Better safe than sorry.

"How are you feeling?" I ask once I'm in and standing at the foot of May's bed. She's laying down, with two pillows behind her head propping her up. "Are you hurt anywhere?"

She was quiet for a moment, just watching me from her bed. Finally, she breathes in deeply, and looks to the side, where there's a chair.

"Sit down, Everly." My eyes immediately narrow in on her. Who was she to address me so casually? A pack member hadn't used my first name since I became Luna.

But I'm curious as to how this will play out, so I comply, moving beside the bed and sitting in the chair, keeping a smooth face.

"What would you like to talk about, May?"

She maintains eye contact with me and she begins. "This is your one chance, Everly. To leave this pack with some dignity. Because once I am Luna, I won't allow you to stay here."

My heart stops in my chest, but I do my best to keep my face smooth.

"Killian is my true mate," she continues, "I made a mistake by choosing another over him when we first met, but now, I can see only I am worthy of standing by his side and running the second strongest pack in the nation."

I can't help myself, a laugh slips out. She glares at me, and I can tell I've irritated her. Her face is so expressive, every emotion clear, especially to those of us who weren't charmed by her.

"And what makes you think Killian wants you to rule by his side? He and you should know, I am the only reason this pack is as successful under his care. And besides that, you're not the first pup to think they can come in between my husband and I, just because she's got a pretty face and nice ass." I lean forward a little, lacing as much venom into my words as I possibly can.

This girl was irritating me, more and more each time we interacted. Why did she have to pick my husband to sink her teeth into? There are plenty of other mateless male wolves out there who would be happy to have her as a bride, even as she was now, with child. I had been trying to be civil, up until this point. I was starting to want to see her ever expressive face morph into one of unhappiness.

But my words don't seem to bother her as much as I thought they would.

In fact, she looks even more smug now, if that was even possible.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you." She lovingly rubs her hands over her pregnant stomach then. "This baby? This baby belongs to your husband, Luna." She smiles sweetly at me, and I feel my face drop.

"That's a lie." I say, staring at her stomach like it would give me some kind of answer as to if she was telling the truth or not. Killian would never do that to me.

He would never cheat on me.

Right?

"It's not. Killian and I are true mates, Everly. That is a fact. And when he found me, we both needed each other again. We're ready this time, to be together, and raise a family and a pack." She smiles again at me, and this time she's the one to lean forward.

"At this point, Everly, you're just in true love's way."

After Killan and I got some tension relieved between the two of us, it was a lot easier to talk about what was going to happen next.We both knew Sebastain would be showing back up anytime now, but we had no idea what he would do when he got here. Would he come in hostile? Or would he be trying to play the coparenting angle, pretending he wanted peace for this new baby? Either way, we had to be prepared to handle him. We all knew from experience he was smart, sneaky, and very good at using people to his advantage. So Killian, me, and Beatrice all got together, went over how we could deal with it. We came up with nicknames so we would know if someone had switched sides on us or if they were just pretending, we told each other shit we’d talked about each other so Sebastain couldn’t figure it out and try to use it as leverage later on. It was a little awkward having to tell Beatrice I’d told one of the guards she walked around like she ad a stick up her ass, but she got over it pretty

  • The Chosen Luna's True Mate   Chapter One Hundred and Eight

“I’m here for Everly.” Is all I say to the female guard who had been standing and keeping watch on the area of the border I was coming through. She looked down at me like she was analyzing if I was trustworthy enough to let in. “She asked me to come.” I huff, annoyed with the way she was looking at me. I still wasn’t too fond of the wolves of this pack, because at one point or another, they’d all been loyal to Sebastain. I just couldn’t bring myself to trust them. She hesitates a moment longer, then ticks her head in the opposite direction, turning and starting to walk. I guess I was following her.I glance at the other guards who are hovering around, some in human form, some as wolves. There were significantly more of them today than there had been in the past. I wonder if that was because of Sebastain or if there were other threats looming over Everly’s head. What had she been dealing with since we last talked? I couldn’t help feeling a little guilty as I followed after the giant

  • The Chosen Luna's True Mate   Chapter One Hundred and Seven-Killian's POV

“Eli, dude, you gotta stop eating dirt.” I mutter, reaching out to pull his tiny hand from where he was trying to shove yet another fistful of dirt into his mouth.I was outside with Eli, trying to get him to show some interest in working out with me. He was almost three, so he only had a few more years before he’d really start training. Given he was an Alpha’s son I was hoping to get a head start on him, but he didn’t seem to share my plans as of right now. He was mostly just interested in pulling fistfulls of grass and dirt out and sampling their flavor profiles.I sigh, plopping down on the ground, giving up for the time being. Eli was still a little too young to care about the strong man he would have to become one day. He still had a few years of being a kid, I guess. Might as well enjoy it while he could.I furrow my brow as I feel my phone vibrating in my pocket. I shift a little, digging until I pull it out. “It’s your mom.” I mutter to Eli, who isn’t paying me any attention.

  • The Chosen Luna's True Mate   Chapter One Hundred and Six

“You’re not seriously thinking about letting him come back here, are you?” The second Sebastain is out of the room, Beatrice is walking around to stand in front of the desk and glare at me. Her tone was filled with accusation, and her face looked annoyed. “You think I want him here?” I ask, a little annoyed with her tone. I don’t know why she was acting like I had invited him here and asked him to threaten me.“Well, you didn’t tell him no.” She scoffs, crossing her arms. I sigh, pinching the bridge of my nose. Like I didn’t have enough to worry about, now Beatrice was picking this moment to challenge me, to act out. “You heard what he said.” I say, looking at her. “I’m not strong enough to beat him in an actual fight. If he wanted to take this pack back from me right now, he could.” “Not with me here.” She growls, her eyes flashing. I was actually quite pleased with her reaction, the immediate reaction to protect the pack against Sebastian, despite him being her former Alpha. Des

  • The Chosen Luna's True Mate   Chapter One Hundred and Five

Twenty minutes later, I was sitting in Sebastain’s old office, me in his chair, him on the other side of the desk. It was a weird feeling, to be looking at him from this perspective. My first instinct was to give him his chair back, but then I realized how weak that would make me look, so I fought against it. He hadn’t said anything to me since we’d come face to face, but he also hadn’t taken his eyes off of me. A few of his old pack members, mostly members from the guard, had surrounded him and started asking him questions. Where had he been, what had he been doing? Was he back for good, if not, then why was he here? Some of them were irritated sounding, and betrayed, still feeling the burn from his disappearing act. Some were curious and maybe a little hopeful he was making a comeback. I tried not to linger on that too much, reminding myself things had been a bit rocky since I’d taken over. It was only natural they’d miss the strong leader who had carried them to the top of the wer

So much paperwork. File upon file. Page upon page. It seemed like everytime someone so much as took a pack of crackers from the supplies closet I was made to fill out a form. I mean it was one of the reasons this pack was so financially stable, because no dollar was left unaccounted for. But being the one in charge of maintaining that level of thoroughness kind of sucked. It had been three days since our little encounter with the confrontational wolves at our borders. Today was supposed to be the day Killian would bring the twins by for some play time with me, but because of the growing tension, I had told him not to come. The same men had been seen multiple times lingering near the border late at night, sneaking around, probably trying to find a weak spot in the guard system. But because of their presence, I’d only increased the number of guards we had on the borders, and made sure we had a twenty four seven rotation of wolves keeping a close eye. The other’s have been very cooper
